    Sleep Apnea

Absolutely! Use the machine. It will help you with energy and feeling good. Just because you lose weight does not mean the sleep apnea will go away. I know plenty of thin people who still have sleep apnea. You'll be glad you use the machine. Good luck! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Weight Loss

From a similar thread... 1. The first 6 weeks are for healing. You cannot expect to lose weight for the next 6 weeks, and if you do count yourself lucky. Stay off the scale. 2. The scale isn't your only measure of success. Take your body measurements. Are you feeling better about yourself? Those all count as well.

    Insurance Approved but Dr. Denied

I am having my band out, just waiting the the approval. I suggested they do the RNY at the same time. The surgical nurse said insurance company wouldn't allow the dual surgery and I would have to go through 3 months of weight management with PCP, another psychology test (which I had done today. I am lucky my psychologist is the one that got me in with my new doctor and is the psychologist for that practice.) then the bypass. Hopefully I don't have to get the approval from the clinic's board. I am already upset because the band has to come out (I am one of the patients that never had an issue, even though it has now slipped. In fact I lost 4 pounds since I seen my new doctor three weeks ago). So really will be upset if I couldn't get the approval of the board if it would come down to that. I am afraid that since this clinic didn't do my band, and I am new to them, they could deny me because of age as their cut off is 72 and I'll be 71. My heart goes out to all of you and the hoops that we all seem to have to go through just to better ourselves, become healthier and it takes just one person who says you didn't do what you should have done before, so you probably won't do it this time either so I can't approve another surgery. All we can do is hang in there and wish for the best.
  6. I've been reading a lot about food addiction, and I'm trying to honestly assess myself. I have a huge passion for good food, but I don't eat a lot of junk or processed food. I haven't eaten fast food in probably 2 years. My husband has a candy habit, but I don't eat much of it. I love to cook, but my cooking style tends to be more Mediterranean than homestyle. I'm not much of a baker, so I don't make cakes or Cookies very often. When I get stressed or upset, I tend to cook and eat less than when I'm feeling good. I can get a little obsessive over food, but it tends to be more about individual ingredients. For instance, I'm always looking for new olive oils to try, and over the last few months I've probably bought a dozen types of sea salt. I have 2 lbs of French green lentils in the pantry that I'm excited to try. I'm looking forward to figuring out ways to up the Protein in everything I make post-op. Of course, I didn't get to this weight without over-enjoying a whole lot of great food. In my case, bad knee issues made it very hard to exercise, which just exacerbated the weight gain. But, I know I think about food a lot. I read cookbooks, watch a lot of cooking shows, and search out food blogs. I know that I will face head hunger and the challenges of all the life changes post-op. But how do you tell the difference between food passion and food addiction?

    New-Banded June 10th

I was banded on the 9th. Things are going well although I admit to craving my families dinner and having to stop myself from taking a bite. I have very little pain, just a little soreness. Today I walked 2 miles. It felt good. I am determined to lose this weight and keep it off for good. But I realize it's a marathon and not a sprint. I have a friend who had the gastric sleeve procedure in April, she has already lost 60 LBS. She has a lot of difficulty eating and some dumping syndrome. So the slow pace of the band is obviously better on our bodies. Good Luck! Rhonda url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/woap9q6/] [/url]

    Does Size Count?

Very interesting! I like the smaller portion option. Even before surgery I thought all restaurants served portions that were way too big. Now I try to order off of the kids menu. I have asked for smaller portions at some restaurants and have been turned down. As far as posting the nutritional information, I don't see how that will help. A lot of people are not informed enough to know what the information means. And if they don't know what it means, how can they use the information to make an informed decision on their choice of foods? Thank u for sharing! surgeversary 7/24/12, highest weight 267, surgery weight 262, current weight 216

    Through this journey

There's an unspoken dynamic called the Fat Friend Syndrome. In some social circles, people are comfortable with the fat person as long as she remains fat. Once the fat friend loses weight and engages in self-improvement, it disrupts the status quo. Subconsciously, the presence of the fat friend makes some thinner people feel better about themselves and their appearances. Once you lose weight, several of these thin friends might develop insecure feelings or feel you're in competition with them. When you're no longer fat, you no longer have the dumpy image that instills a sense of security into them. So, yes, expect the dynamic of your friendships to possibly change with permanence if/when you ever attain your goal weight. http://brittanyherself.com/cgg/im-the-fat-friend/

Hi Everyone At last I'm on the road to being skinny! Got banded on 19th January 2008 in Birmingham, UK. Lost 10lbs on the pre op diet and then another 6lbs in my first week after op. Nothing in my 2nd. Not disheartened as I know I'm going to lose the weight and keep it off forever! Would love to hear from you. Good luck to all! J9

  14. I see my surgeon about once every 4-6 weeks. Last visit was Jan 30. Monday, I had lost 5 pounds, but after some coaxing, allowed doc to give me .5cc.( I have NO clue how many cc's I have total, nor do I remember the capacity of my band!) This was the first time I had been filled @ 8:30am, and they gave me icy Water to check for tightness. (I do not do icy water, or any food early in the day, I am too tight) I didn't make it out of the office before the icy water came back up. Monday evening I had some sf/ff cocoa, nice and warm, went down & stayed down. Then tried some tomato Soup, again, went down & stayed down. Tuesday morning........could not keep cocoa, warm water, tea, even my own slime would not go down. And forget about blood pressure meds, not gonna happen! (Sorry, gross, but if anyone gets it, it is fellow bandsters.) I tried to tough it out, thinking somehow it would get better with time, but NO! I ended up calling the clinic @ 2pm, and had the .5cc removed around 4. The relief was immediate! I have learned, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! I am so glad I didn't wait to have the Fluid removed! I am back on liquids until tomorrow, then mushy and so on. Haven't figured out the ticker, but I had my surgery in 2004 (you read that right!) No fills till 2011 when insurance decided to pick up the cost.......I actually gained weight post surgery in the 7 years, (who would have thunk it, if you don't use the tool right........)Anyway, first fill in October 2011, have lost 50 lbs so far. About 120 to go! It's easy being GREEN!
  15. I was sleeved on August 29...gained six pounds in the hospital in three days, and I'm only down one pound...that makes me five pounds heavier than before the sleeve. I'm very discouraged.

    2 Days Post, Sureal

I'm 31, I topped out at 302 and I'm 5'4". I lost down to 284 on the optifast, but I seem to have gained that back in gas weight while I was in surgery! I didn't realize it could be that much, hopefully it will be gone soon!

    Tattoo Question!

For your inner arm I'd probably hold off until you are closer to your goal weight. I feel like any of the fleshier areas would be at greater risk for distortion. brwangel - I'm kinda in the same boat. I have a tatt I'd like to either get on the back of my neck or on my write but I'm worried about "professional' appearance.

Good News the Gym is starting to empty out

Holy crap, no kidding! I can't believe how far out I have to park in the evenings right now. It amazes me how many people think that they can go in, do maybe 20 minutes of cardio, then lift for 30 minutes (most of which they are socializing with others) and lose weight. I have NEVER done a New Years resolution to lose weight. Why? Because you don't accomplish anything. If that is your reason to hit the gym, you're going to quit in 1 1/2 mos. TOPS! Not being rude or anything, but I hate it when someone gets on a machine or bench and sits there between sets doing nothing or talking. Let others work in so they can get the F out.. Oh well, I'm done and off my soapbox. Thanks. Needed that:biggrin:

    Question for experienced banders

Yep. If I want to keep losing. Don't get me wrong. My eating got sloppy around the one year mark. I was eating greasy fried food and carbs and buckets of movie crapcorn. And drinking wine. And I started to gain again. So I got serious, cleaned up the food, planned and tracked my portions, dumped the alcohol and carbs, and lost what I gained and got back on track. With smaller portions, my band once again felt tighter. So now I have to chew well and eat small bites or I'll get stuck. But don't kid yourself. Eating around the band is very possible and the bigger your meals get the more used to it you get. The good news is that the reverse is also true. I am very grateful for my band and that I learned this lesson early without too much wasted time or without stretching out my insides and causing a slip. The better I adhere to the rules the easier it gets. The more exceptions I make, the harder it is to get back on track. Good luck! JustWatchMe
  23. I just got sleeved on Dec 15. I've lost 22 lbs. ..my time of the month started and I gained five. Since then....I haven't been able to loose like I was at the begining....has this happened to anyone else?
  24. You've lost weight really fast! How have you been doing it?
  25. Have you ever tracked your food or worked with a nutritionist to determine how many calories you are eating? Are your thyroid levels normal? What you describe is about what I eat in a day (depending on how big your portions are). The lap band will only aid with hunger/portion control. It does nothing for malabsorption. If your problem is portion control or grazing the band could be your answer. If I were already eating small portions and not snacking, and I could show I was eating a calorie controlled diet and not losing weight....I'd want some metabolic tests done before having surgery to find out why I was gaining the weight. I eat 1600-1700 calories a day to maintain my current weight. Prior to surgery I was eating somewhere around 2500-2600 a day. Best wishes!
