    “I’m so proud of you!!”

I have almost two masters degrees and was successfully teaching . I had lost 120lbs with my band prior . I’m sitting at the hospital post my revision right now . No one said they were proud of me . No one needs to be proud of me . I also need to express I did this for my health. This was not about fatness or beauty but purely health. I’m ok with losing that poor health identity
  2. Thank you so much @ChaosUnlimited my post was so much more painful but I tried to edit out the drama, and leave the facts while secretly screaming for help. This revision is all I can think about. It has GOT to work!! Wishing you blessings on your journey too! 💕🙏🏼
  3. @MissPoodle I was just wondering how you did with your weight loss? I have regained Is your primary revision reason too loose regained weight or just fix Stricture?
  4. I had a sleeve done in 2015. My revision to bypass is on 19th sept. I have developed something similar to a stricture and worsening nausea when i eat. I'm glad you posted this because I'm really interested in hearing about other people's experiences too. Sent from my SM-G950F using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. About to do a Sleeve to RNY on Aug 22nd as well. This is for weight regain due to a bad Sleeve surgery 3 years ago. Tests revealed that the Sleeve was made too big and mishapen like an hour glass, which did not set me up for success at all. So I'm being revised to RNY which will also take care of the GERD and they will fix the stricture I have and Haital hernia. Nervous and very cautious about getting excited...I really would like to know the true differences between the two procedures. Will this never ending hunger ever go away? Is it true you loose weight so much slower etc. Would love to hear more about how you all are doing...

Acid reflux question? Based on recent poll.

I'm sure that I can handle the lifestyle change that it takes to succeed after this surgery, but after much research and reading numerous accounts of people developing severe acid reflux after having the gastric sleeve surgery, this really has me beyond concerned. It seems that the only solution to get rid of the acid reflux, is to have a revision to gastric bypass surgery, I'm not sure that I can come to terms with that, just not sure that I could handle that.
  7. I realize that most people will probably gloss over this topic...because for most 1 surgery works and is enough and if you fall into this category, please know how fortunate you are. This is not my story I am 5'8. In 2007 I was 273lb's and miserable! I got a Band. Following 13 fills and unfills the best I lost was 60lb's, I never achieved restriction, and unfilled to have 2 kids. All weight returned. In an unrelated accident my port flipped, and in 2015 at 265lb's I was revised to a Gastric Sleeve (Also had my gallbladder taken out, a Haital hernia repaired and the band removed). I lost 60lb's in the first 4 months and then...stopped loosing. At 205lb's I would have been happy with my results, but then, I felt no restriction and started to regain! Fast forward almost 3 years to today...I have developed GERD pretty bad and I've regained most of what I lost back! My stomach feels hungry every hour or two, I could always eat WAY more than my sleeved friends, and once I got myself full, it would not take long for the deep primal hunger to return. I have no relief from hunger. Especially at night, I'm ravenous! I became a grazer! I felt that the Ghrelin was back with an Army to fight me! A 80% international traveling job plus unlimited access to food in the best restaurants around the globe did not help. I have felt dejected, humiliated, like a failure, angry, frustrated and the list goes on for miles, if you are still reading, you probably know how I feel. And indeed, It's not just about how I look...it's about how I feel. Horrible!! My weight is pressing, intrusive and pervasive. There is no time that I am not aware of it. I have sleep Apnea, I can't keep up with my 6 and 7 year old's and the simple things in life are hard again. Completely demoralizing... After almost 3 years, I finally said "Enough" and went back to a new Surgeon. An Endoscopy revealed it has not all been my fault. My Sleeve was cut too big to begin with! My new surgeon reveled he knows the work of the previous surgeon who apparently was not very skilled at the time and making sleeves too big to be successful. A Bougie 42 was was too big to begin with but in my case, even that was very loosely cut. To top it off, my Sleeve was mis-shapen to begin with as well, setting me up for failure and I have a Stricture in the middle, causing me to have an Hourglass shape. Top fills up, stretches, bottom is hungry, then food goes to the bottom and is still there, top is hungry, in short...a hot mess! Miraculously given the Haital Hernia, GERD, Stricture and botched initial surgery, my insurance (that does not cover Bariatrics) has approved a revision to Bypass on Aug 22nd. I've been combing the internet for Sleeve to RNY revision but such information is not as readily available as 1st timers. I am so nervous...so frightened to go through with this. Scared of Anesthesia, scared how I would do, scared of the 3 week post op liquid only phase. Scared that I will fail again, that this will not work. Some Surgeons (like the Pound of Cure guy say you can only expect to loose 10 - 25lbs on a Sleeve to RNY revision, woa?? ) But I have to try...I want to live a full and vibrant life and not just exist like an Amoeba! This is truly Project last chance. My husband is supportive, but my friends, judgmental and not supportive. and if ever I needed some advice, encouragement, support etc...it's now... Nervous but cautiously hopeful, and very much in need of your support... Ellie

  9. Wondering how you ladies are doing with your revision? Scheduled for a Revision Sleeve to RNY on Aug 22nd. Super nervous. I regained the weight I lost form my sleeve. Endoscopy revealed that my sleeve was cut too big and in the wrong shape (hour glass), so I have a Stricture, Haital Hernia, GERD etc. I'm glad I have answers now. That plus regain makes me a prime candidate for revision to RNY. I have so many questions. I've had the Band, Sleeve and now going in again...gosh, even though I know my surgery was not done right, it's so hard not to feel like a failure and worry that the RNY will not work for me. Not much out there on such revisions. And some doctors were saying at most you will loose 10 - 25lbs revising from Sleeve to Bypass. WOA? Anyhow, could really really REALLY use a buddy in the same boat right about now...

Acid reflux question? Based on recent poll.

I also took the poll. I don't really know if I had GERD before my sleeve. If so, it wasn't bad enough to need medication. I'm now on omeprazole 40mg 2x/day, too, plus TUMS as needed. Problem is, they used to think omeprazole was fine for long-term use. Now it is recommended for no more than 6 months. If mine hasn't improved by the 6-month mark (Sept), my surgeon will probably do a revision to bypass.

    Menopause

I had a mommy make-over (152 lbs 10 years after lap-band) and 6 months later started gaining weight really fast (gained 60 lbs within 4 months which is why I’m back on the Bariactric site), got tested and I was IN menopause at 48. I read that surgery can push you in to it. I having a revision done on Tuesday and I’m scared to death it won’t work as well thanks to the hormone/surgery thing.
  12. Hi Everyone! I was sleeved in March of 2016. I had sleeve to bypass revision on 7/30/18 due to reflux and nausea. I am post-op 12 days. I lost 14 pounds from 1 week pre-op and 1 week post-op clear liquid diet. I have been on full liquids since this past Sunday. I have two protein shakes per day and cottage cheese. I am around 60-70 grams of protein per day and about 450-550 calories. I am struggling a little bit with getting my fluids in... I'm around 50 ounces per day of water. The day I started full liquids (actually taking in any calories) I stopped losing any weight. I have actually gained 1.8 pounds since Sunday (6 days ago). I am a little frustrated, but am hoping it is just a stall or something. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
  13. My surgery date is October 2018, revision to gastric bypass, I’m so excited I’ve waited over a year! I start my 6 week Ensure High Protein diet next week! My current wt is 322 lbs, not sure how much I’ll lose in this pre op diet, but I’m looking forward to my future!
  14. My doctor will not do ESG on anyone who hasd previously had a gastric balloon as there is a high failure rate there, but do they know why the stitching had come apart? Did your surgeon do a bad ESG eg too loose stitching? Do you know how many ESGs they have done and what that surgeon's failure / revision rate is? I am a member of three facebook ESG groups and while there are people on there who haven't had success or much success there are so many more who have lost plenty of weight many longterm and maintaining. There are many reasons for failure just as VSG or RNY fail and until the reason is determined we can't say ESG (or even VSG and RNY) is a waste of money.
  15. TRICARE AND REVISION OR BYPASS SURGERY I'm quite certain this topic in reference to Tricare has been discussed a thousand times but I just can't find the answers I need. When I lived on post in Washington State on Ft. Lewis, I was able to get the Sleeve done. My surgeon assured me if this surgery did not work that in a couple or so years I could get the Gastric Bypass or I may need a revision some day. TRICARE or the surgeons here in Columbus, GA disagree and will not do either because my BMI is NOT at 40 plus. I assume I would have to gain more weight to do so. I'm at a 33 BMI now and no doctors can figure out why I'm gaining any weight at all. I eat healthy and I exercise every single day and I have since the surgery. I just stopped losing one day and it's been a steady incline since the middle of 2014 or later even. There's no explanation and breaking my elbows to keep me from putting a fork in my mouth might hurt and I would starve to death from malnutrition because I eat like a bird now. I need some help here because I have nothing. The surgeons are clueless and say no and my doc is clueless in saying the surgeons say no I'm NOT FAT ENOUGH. I'm fat and I hate myself. HELP!! Suggestions!!!!

    August 2018 sleeve surgery!!

I am having a revision done 8/13. The liquid diet hasn’t been too bad (mind over matter, right?). I’ve lost 4 pounds in 4 days so that alone has kept me motivated.
  17. Revision to bypass was one of the best decisions ever. My GERD is not gone but way better.
  18. Congrats and good luck! I had my band removed back in March and revised to the Bypass... Best damn thing I've done for myself in a very long time!
  19. Unfortunately not all cals are created equal and sustained weight loss is trickier than cals in cals out. What are you eating? Carbs as in bread and pasta or carb counts (macros) ? You may need to reconnect with your team for a revised plan and do a bit of research to get over this hurdle. Google (scholar) and YouTube (Doctors,NUT,Trainers) can be great resources Research glycogenolysis, gluconeogenesis, lipolysis, and ketogenesis.
  20. I also had a band once upon a time and wanted to revise to the sleeve, but because of my reflux, my surgeon wouldn't do anything but the bypass. He told me the sleeve would make my reflux worse and so I am glad I went with the bypass, but I am 4 years out and have yet, to reach my goal weight. Now, granted, I don't do everything 100% all the time. But I feel healthier than I did before in most respects. The malabsorption is probably what has changed my body the most because I have a hard time taking all the supplements and feel I don't have the muscle and bone mass that I once had. I would like to lose about 20 more pounds, but if not, I am OK with where I am. This may just be my HEALTHY weight since I have been stuck here for awhile now. I hope you reach your goals with the revision and also have fun on your cruise. I love cruising and never have trouble finding good foods to eat.

    Surgiversary!

I had my revision one year ago today. I’m shocked and amazed at the changes that have occurred this year. My boobs have disappeared, I lost a lot of hair... but more importantly I’m no longer overweight. I still have a belly (and lose skin) but I’m learning to love myself just as I am. I’m so thankful to be on this road. Now I just need to get my butt back in the gym, good news is that it is within walking distance now. No regrets. ❤️
  22. Can you store them at your gym as incentive for going? Can you stop buying bulk items that will potentially ruin your goals. Have you seen your NUT or team and asked for additional supports like group meetings or a revised plan to accommodate your lifestyle? If you want to be successful you really need to make some changes and the sooner the better. I don't know if you heard this info but we have a honeymoon period of weight loss where its almost effortless then afterwards you have to fight for every pound lost. You may be squandering your opportunity by indulging in things that won't help with weight loss.

    The good, bad and unemployed

@Sosewsue61 Thank you I worked at a township office for almost 9 years (October 26th). All employees are bonded and because of my situation,I was too high a risk for them to fork over an additional fee to cover me PLUS my pay. In their thinking, I assume that they rather hire someone new at a lower pay and save a ton and they are bonded the same as everyone else at the lower rate. It sucks! Perhaps I could tap into my 401 but was warned up & down to not touch it but rather leave it and roll it over when finding another job. I feel like touching that 401 or what the township called it, a money market account would not only affect me at retirement but also at tax time. I'd get hit pretty good. So many questions and paths to take along with my newly revised sleeve. I have to worry abt all this but I also have to take care of myself. Doc told me that yesterday with a stern warning. I'm so happy I downloaded the Baritastic App on my phone that chimes throughout the day to drink and take my vitamins. I ask to please say a prayer for me

    The good, bad and unemployed

So, I am 2 weeks post op today and doing okay. Trying to get my 85g of protein in daily but I'm getting to 60s some days if I'm lucky. Water, 64oz. is in a far off galaxy but I am doing my best at about 35 oz. I had a revision sleeve from the original VSG in 2012. I am extremely fortunate to not only have a second chance and get my health back. I lead by example of what not to do as my husband is also having the surgery done later in the year or early next year. I had my first post op visit with the dr.s office yesterday and everything looked great! Surprisingly, she told me my water % looked very good so, I'll take it. I am out on short term since the day of my surgery, July 25th and come to find out this past Monday that I will no longer be employed of my job of almost 9 years. Basically, I am bonded every year because I handle money and every year that bond is renewed. So now enter in my story of why... Last May of 2017, my dog suddenly went limp in his hind legs and needed emergency surgery. French bulldogs are prone to a condition called IVDD or Intervertebral Disk Disease. It is a common cause of back pain, rear limb paralysis, and inability to walk or feel the back legs. Basically, the pressure on his back from the disk was pressing on his nerves that send signals to the brain to control his back leg movement. Without removing that part of the disk, he would be paralyzed. With our minds racing, it was emergency surgery with a 90% success rate or pain management over time to see if he would recover,a 50/50 shot. My mind was made up immediately. My dogs are my world. His emergency surgery was 8k. Crazy to some but to me, I wouldn't have thought twice and would do it again if I had to. My boy was recovering nicely with his medication management and physical therapy at home. I would sit with him and stretch his back legs and use massage like they showed me at the vet. He improved and I am happy to say he is back to himself today! This 8k bill was put on a care creditcard and paid on time for 3 months. After that, I couldn't keep my head above water anymore. I reached out to a debt consolidator and had all of my bills rolled up into one monthly payment. It couldn't have come at a worse time. My son was going to be turning 1 in July and we had a bunch of expenses with him understandably along with some other typical bills that go along with owning a home. This debt wasn't the worse thing in the world but I knew I had do to take action. Fast forward to now. I have faithfully paid my bill every month but took a risk. This consolidation dipped my credit rating. I had forgotton about this. Enter in my job. They do my background check and can't bond me so I can't work for them so here I am. They have a severance package for me along with COBRA if I decided to take it. YEAH THE F *** RIGHT...At 900 bucks for 1 month for just my son and I, yeah, I think i'll pass. My husband is putting us on his for now through his full time job. I am currently seeking employment but it stings knowing I'm getting penalized for making a decision I needed to make. Just gonna keep my head up. That's all I can do. I have my health back, my family and that's all I need..well a job too

    Losing too much!

Congratulations on your weight loss, but at the same time, I'm sorry to hear it might be too much. I don't have experience in this realm, I just got my RNY a month ago, so these suggestions might be silly. As far as protein, I'm really liking the premier protein clear drink. I don't care too much for the "regular" ones after the RNY surgery. Other than that, are you sensitive to fat intake? Perhaps integrate more healthy fats like fatty fish, avocado and transfat-free butter alternatives? I've read that sometimes fatty foods cause dumping, but I am not far enough out yet to experience this (Or hopefully not to). If you did need to go for revision surgery, perhaps the doctor could bypass less of your intestines, so you could absorb more food? I'm not sure if that is even possible, but just a suggestion.
