    What do you eat in a day 3+ years out?

    same as above: after weight loss phase, i don't really have a typical day of eating...it varies wildly from day to day. i do still track my calorie intake, but more so just out of habit. i generally average about 1800-2000 calories a day. some days less some days more. i do moderate exercise, and a 5'2" female. also managed to stay below goal weight this entire time with how and what i eat so im def grateful for that. oh, and i'm a little over 4 years out. what i ate today: - french bread with butter - cranberry granola - kimchi dumplings - general tso tofu - french bread with strawberry jam - grilled shrimp - garlic bread with cheese - sour cream & onion chips - almonds - espresso martinis (2) (i don't normally eat this much bread, but i made a couple loaves this morning so...) (also, im a grazer so i ate all this here and there throughout the day)

    What do you eat in a day 3+ years out?

    I'm not quite 3 years out yet (that'll be next month), but there isn't a 'typical' day for me. I used the weight loss phase to get into a new mindset and learn to eat in a sustainable way. Which is what I do. I eat around 1600-2000 calories depending on the day (but only count calories if my weight goes up past what I allow myself, i.e my comfortable zone). I'm 188 right now and as long as I'm still in the 180's I'm okay (if it goes into the 190's I start counting calories. I put on some weight after starting a med for my Trigeminal Neuralgia and was only able to lose about half of what I put on, but I figure that's probably the normal weight gain I heard you gain in your second year anyway so I just shrug it off or try to, anyway). What I ate today: Breakfast: Granola bar & 2 Caramel Rice Cakes Snack: No Sugar Added Mandarin Orange Fruit Cup Lunch: Leftover Chicken Fetticini Snack: Protein Shake Dinner: Turkey Potato Skillet I just had blood work done and my blood work is almost perfect (have low sodium, but that's due to my anti-anxiety meds. They told me to drink more lol).
  3. At 5'6" and 233 pounds, I *barely* met the criteria. And that's with diabetes and high cholesterol. Sad to say, you might actually need to gain some weight in order to qualify. It's all about your BMI.

I feel that even if they do end up finding you have PCOS or another hormone related issue, they might still not refer you to the WLS program as you're only two BMI points away from being out of the 'obese' category. However I would fight your endo a little bit more. While you may not have full blown pcos it's obvious you ARE dealing with some symptoms that could possibly be adjusted with medication. I would also ask your doctor about meds like Ozempic! You're close to being at a normal weight got your height & I feel that could help jump start it for you!
  5. ...another thing i would suggest is to weigh and measure yourself often (if u can handle it...some can't). you mentioned a couple times in your post that you were surprised at your weight at certain points in your life. by keeping an eye on it, you may be less shocked and even may be able to avoid it altogether by taking whatever measures you decide on. further, if you combine regular weigh ins/body measurement noting with food tracking (and even track activity level, mood, sleep, etc) you may be able to collect some useful data to help troubleshoot your situation....but again, only if its your cup of tea. to lots of folks this level of involvement is not ideal. i can only say that my own penchant of detailed tracking has helped me identify many things specific to me.     I noticed that about myself too and I’d hit a long plateau/maintenance phase. Someone on here suggested an app named Chlow and now I stopped snacking and weight is beginning to move down again. Keep trying what works for you. Best
  7. Hi All! Summary: I'm bored of my go to meals. What healthy options do you love? Detail: I am almost 3 years out and have put on a few pounds from my low - 155 to 170 at 5'10. I think I'm still in the normal "bounce back" gain range but I want to make sure I stop any further gain. I work out pretty heavy: 3 days of HiiT, 1 day hiking, 1 day yoga plus daily dog walks. I had stopped tracking all my food but started back up and I am around 2000 calories a day which with exercise seems to be right (when I am tracking and staying there my weight stopped moving). My challenge is I tend to eat 3 meals plus an afternoon snack and I am looking for lower calories, lean protein options. I tend to like one pot or casserole type meals v. a piece of meat and side dish but I am open to any thoughts! For those of you curious, a regular day for me may be: Breakfast: Coffee w/ half and half and Green smoothie (with protein, frozen fruit & frozen spinach) Lunch: Chicken salad Snack: Greek yogurt with keto granola Dinner: Ground chicken tacos with carb conscious tortilla's or Breakfast: Coffee w/ half and half and 2 eggs on an english muffin Lunch: Chef salad Snack: Premier protein shake Dinner: Au gratin vegetables casserole with chicken dinner sausage I may also have dessert which is usually sugar free jello/sugar free jello pudding made with Fairlife skim milk Thanks for sharing!     as Arabesque said, the morbidity rate on weight loss surgeries is really low....lower than many other common surgeries such as hip replacement surgery. I think some people's perceptions come from the way things were 40 or 50 years ago, but the surgeries they do today aren't the same and are MUCH safer. You'd be more at risk by staying obese. which country the surgeon practices in makes no difference at all. There are good and not-so-good surgeons in any given country. If you've researched your surgeon and things look good, you should be fine.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

    I’m currently 22 weeks pregnant. Have only gained 11lbs so far in pregnancy. My baby bump is just a bump - not like my last pregnancy where I gained so much weight I was just a giant fat person. Eating the proper foods and nutrition is incredibly manageable. My low was 183, I’m keeping that as my marker on this site and will continue updating once I have this babe. I figure it’s not quite the same experience being pregnant, so my weight loss journey, in a sense, is on hold. Yesterday I had two people comment and say I don’t even look pregnant (shirt was hiding the bump) but that was a weight loss compliment. We’re going to Florida next week and I’ve had a hell of a time trying to find a bathing suit that fits my flat a$$ and big belly. I did though! The need for maternity clothes has been a challenge as I’m Constantly confused by my size due to the weight loss. I can pull my size 10 jeans up and they’re loose, but they don’t button - that’s a win in my book! Hope you all are doing great! Cheers to the new year!! Happy Holidays!! ❤️

    November 2022 surgery support!

    My only restriction is not to lift anything over 5 lbs (so my strength exercises were body weight only), otherwise my doctor told me to exercise as tolerated and just to be careful to listen to my body.

    It takes me a while to decide on anything. Once the decision is made then its going to take a massive event to shake my resolve, the pandemic didn't stop me. Once my husband said he was onboard I phoned the private hospital. I only told my only child and bestie of 50+ years, both were encouraging. Since surgery I have told my sisters and an overweight neighbour who asked about my weight loss. Unless your friend apologises for being being so negative, I can't see how your friendship would get passed this. As Arabesque says the stats are really good. You live in a country where I don't think you will have any aftercare worries. There is so much advice in this forum if you are unsure of anything, now or later, we are only here to help and encourage. What the person said against the surgery was their own doubts, not yours. If you decide to postpone, its totally ok. You will probably regret your second thoughts but eventually will decide its the correct path for you like we all did. Breathe

    So glad to hear you are doing so well. I'm doing well, as well, thanks. I've lost about 40 lbs. I need to lose another 13 or so to have a normal BMI. But I'm quite happy with my weight loss. It has been very slow throughout this process. I'm averaging a pound a week. But that's better than not losing, or God forbid, gaining. I'm going on a cruise for Christmas. Bathing suit, size 10. Great to be there again. I hope all is well with everybody

    I do the opposite, I often eat more quickly when I’m out with others. I notice my pace speeds up to keep up their eating. I have to consciously, put my cutlery down & sit back from the table. At home, I take ages to eat - 30-60 minutes. Don’t know if eating quickly is related to causing additional snacking other than you may get full more quickly before your tummy gets a chance to start to digest what you’ve eaten. Does your restriction kick in? Does it stop you eating all your regular portion? If so you may feel hungry again because you haven’t eaten enough & then you snack. If you don’t/can’t eat all your portion, snack on that rather than less nutritious foods. But yes, as we progress we are able to eat more which is how it should be until you get to about an accepted regular portion size when your weight stabilises. Have a chat with your dietician.

    So sorry you experienced this. And they always do it out of the goodness of their heart & in your best interest. Out of curiosity, does your friend have a weight issue? Could it be jealousy that you are doing something about your health & she isn’t?? Get some stats ready for next time you see them. Morbidity rates after bariatric surgery ate less than 1% which is way less than many other surgeries. 0.7% for appendectomy while only 0.3% for sleeve. Obesity is the 5th highest cause of death world wide - 2.8 million people die each year from obesity related illnesses & complications. Would they comment if you were having a different non weight related surgery? I deliberately did not tell some friends. One in particular as she has always been very competitive. I told her I was seeing a dietician & had done a lot of research into eating & in relation to my personal needs. All true & sure enough she started seeing a dietician (she had put a little weight -age- but wasn’t even really overweight). And then came the what size are you wearing now questions. She was always wearing the same or a smaller size. Mind you she wasn’t my size but you can understand why I didn’t tell her.

    According to the ideal weight calculator posted, I’m at 107% EWL. I wasn’t very big to begin with though, so I’m not surprised I was able to lose all of it.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

    I had my surgery on March 22; I've lost 102 pounds. My starting weight at home was 308.6 and my weight this morning was 206.4. However, my rheumatologist has my highest weight at 314.8, so according to him, I've lost 108 pounds. Whatever the loss, it's great. I still see a heavy person when I look in the mirror, but my clothes were a 4x and now I can wear a large. I had the sleeve and I've had terrible reflux. So bad, I have inhaled it into my lungs while I sleep several times. My doctor wants to do a revision after the holidays. 😒

    surgery date: 9/7/2022 surgery weight: 354 lbs current weight: 281 lbs goal weight: 180 lbs :) these first few months were rough, some complications and surgical revisions, but i wouldn’t change it for anything. i feel great now! :)

    Carbs yes or no

    It's the calories. Not "the carbs". Not "the fats". Not "high protein only". It's the calories. Always. Doesn't matter where they're coming from. Eat more than you burn and you're going to gain weight. There is no evil magic in "carbs".

  21. I finally fit into straight sized t-shirts. At my highest weight, I was in a 4x or 5x. Now I'm sitting here in an XL. Now I can wear the t-shirts I got from walking races that I couldn't even put on when I finished the race. Can't wait to see where I end up after surgery. Mixed emotions though, because I have some t-shirts that I really like that I could go camping in. I think I'm gonna make them into throw pillows.
  22. I would try to eat sugar free jell-o each day that I was on my liquid diet. It would help me with the need to chew. My sleeve was on 12/2/22 and I'm doing well. I still forget to give myself enough time between bites or sips. Once I started soft foods my weight loss stalled. I'm still a bit sore but I'm mostly fine.
  23. First off, Congratulations for getting back out there in your new life. And also preparing for a marathon! That is fantastic! Now from a Man's point of view. You found a guy that is into health & fitness which is a good thing for you. He is "super encouraging" and supportative in a positive manner. You actully DID go on a "restrictive calorie" diet to achieve your superb weight loss. You just used another tool in the box called gastirc bypass to assist you. You should be very proud of yourself for doing that. Now to answer the question. Yes IF reaching that point of seriousness in your relationship. The disclosure most likely won't matter to him but will give you peace of mind to continue your relationship. Don't make it a confessional type of discussion where you sound ashamed, but rather matter-of-factly in discussing your nutritional needs. Consdering his background, he probaly will be eager to assist you in your journey. If he is serious about you, your relationship willl continue to grow. It is no big deal for a guy (even a fitness buff). Would he care if you previously had facelifts or breast implants? Would you even mention that? If he is serious, he likes you for who you are NOW. Good luck and stay postive!

    Noobie Questions

    My surgery ended up being much more than expected. I went in having bypass and a Hiatal hernia repair. When my surgeon got inside, the hernia was twice as bad as it looked on the pre-op scans (level 4 of 5) and I have major damage to my esophagus caused from years or severe GERD. My 2 hour surgery ended up being 5 hours as he repaired my esophagus as well but everything went well with no complications. I ended up getting a second dose of gas since the surgery took so much longer and more extensive. Now, recovery ... WHEW! I am not going to lie, that gas pain was no joke! I was MISERABLE the next day! I have a VERY high tolerance to pain, rarely take ANY pain meds but this was killer. Yes, it hurt to breathe, hurt to move... hurt to be alive. haha I took pain meds anytime they offered them, which doesn't actually help with the gas pain BUT they knock me out so I could at least sleep through the pain! By the second day (still in the hospital) I was off IV pain meds but took oral (crushed and disgusting) pain meds in the morning and then one more time for my trip home from the hospital. Once home, I never needed another pain pill, I didn't even take Tylenol. I still had minor gas pain, which was mostly in my shoulder and a heating pad helped. I had NO actual surgery pain, or the gas pain just masked it? I had 1 incision that oozed, called the surgeon and it was normal. Took longer to heal up but never caused me any issues or pain. Once I got past the 2 days of gas pain I was smooth sailing. I am so grateful how easy my recovery was. I mean, not one issue at all. I hit my fluid goals in less than a week and was hitting my protein goals in just over a week. I had no issues drinking anything cold or warm. Now, 8.5 months post-op and still no issues at all. I can eat anything, have no issues tolerating anything. I THINK I may have dumped once, but it was mild enough that I am not even 100% sure it was a dumping episode. I slept in the recliner for about a week because it was more comfortable and when sleeping on my side the weight of my belly pulling made the incisions on the opposite side get irritated. But after that, I was good to sleep however I wanted. Everyone is definitely different. Just remember, every plan is different but you trusted your team and you trusted your surgeon with your life (literally) so trust their plan. Follow THEIR/YOUR plan and listen to them over other people. Take it easy for a few days, walk, walk, walk and BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!!!

    How did you choose your goal weight?

    I am going with the weight of my original goal from when I first started WW. Back then WW (I think they still do) had a strict number you had to stick to. All according to your sex, height, age and BMI. Which for me was like 125lbs. When I was discussing this with my doctor at the time, she said I would probably look sick and malnourished, due to my body type. So, we went with 150-160lbs. She said when I get there, we can look at the numbers again.
