If I knew then What I know Now!!!
Linds replied to 1hotchocolate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well in hind sight (and it has taken me 6 years and a lot of problems and tons of weight regain to come to this conclusion) I wish I had had the option (which I didn't) to have RNY as I think it would have been better for me. Don't get me wrong, the band during the most part has been great, but it hasn't done what it said on the label for mke and believe me I have worked darned hard with it. I have almost died twice with associated problems (kinked tube and erosion) so I guess enough is enough. I wish all my fellow bandsters all the luck and success in the world....it does work....I lost 168lbs initially but have put over 70 back on and very quickly. I will hopefully be revised to a gastric bypass in the next couple of weeks or months so will begin my journey again all being well. -
Lap band or Gastric Sleeve???
Jaffa replied to Mommato4's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Get the sleeve. There is NO justifiable reason to get the band. Just marketing and people thinking it is less invasive....it really isn't. Mine worked fine, and then suddenly it was really hard to stay in the sweet spot.....I was just defilled to prepare for sleeve revision, and it turns out my band was leaking. -
Did your surgeon's office/nutritionist give you a list? My nutritionist gave me a 3 page handout on the 2 week diet I am supposed to be on before surgery. It's basically like a revised Atkins diet. I know for the ketotic diet they have me going on I choose 4 proteins and 1 fat for breakfast. 5 proteins and 1 fat for lunch. 6 proteins and 1 fat for dinner. I also have "free foods" so I'm supposed to add "leafy greens" or "greens" to every meal that I can have an unlimited amount of. I can choose 1 carb per day. I know each is different for everyone but I think this is a pretty typical pre-surg diet.

Christmas Weightloss Challenge
Ale78 replied to Fluffy Jen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in. Starting a little late but I know I am going to need some support over the next few weeks. I am getting a port revision on Friday and I am hoping to actually have some restriction along with that. He is going to put 6ccs in. We'll see. That is what I am "supposed" to be filled to now but I am not sure that it always worked. After the first fill they had a terrible time getting into my port. Anyway, I set a small goal but I want to ROCK it! I would love to be under 250 come Christmas!!:wink2: ~A -
Thank you so very much. . . I was 263 the day of my revision. I started at 270 with the band 8 months before my revision, standing 5'2" tall. Today, I'm hoovering at 145. I will have a TT after we're done making babies. Boob job for my 40th Bday, and I am very interested in Botox and/or a mini-facelift. I'm a pretty vain person. I have zero issue admitting it, and will use technology, surgery, and other avenues to fix my flaws. I plan on growing old gracefully with assistance that I can afford. I'm actually not worried about the bat wings. I hate wearing tank tops. I have this weird mental hang-up about exposed underarms/armpits. I think it's just gross, so I won't ever wear tank tops without a shirt over it.

Self-Fill are you doing this?
CH132212 replied to TQUAD64's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know it seems absurd that anyone would even consider doing this, but I know a Dr. that tried to do her own fill a little while back.... she used the wrong kind of needle and the port wouldn't seal. She had to have a port revision ($7000) to replace it. So, it DOES happen! LOL -
excess skin?
JamieLogical replied to CalorieKicker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is for sure! Dr. Nowzaradan is a bariatric surgeon. WTF is he doing performing plastic surgery? I have never in my life, through all of my research of plastics and bariatric surgery heard of a surgeon that was doing both. They are both very highly specialized fields! I would never let a bariatric surgeon perform plastics on me or vice versa. It's insane! And the two younger doctors on the show... what is up with them doing tummy tucks with no muscle repair? That's pretty useless! No muscle repair, no lipo, everyone of their patients have a shelf and a terrible scar. Well, I'll cut them a little slack with the scar, because we aren't really seeing the patients a year or more out, when scars will really start to fade. But the no muscle repair or lipo makes it truly just "skin removal" surgery, which is not what most people think when they think of a tummy tuck. It will definitely require later revision with muscle repair for anyone to get the "flat stomach" they are hoping for. -
From what I understand, weight loss post revision is always slower than the rate at which you lost with your original surgery. Plus you’re losing from a lower weight (if I read correctly) so that will result in a slower rate. What does your team say? Are they concerned? When losing I only had one snack a day: a high protein yoghurt or yoghurt drink, or I had some fresh fruit. Check with your dietician for what’s best for you & your needs. I never exercised but I lost all my weight & more. Exercising only contributes to about 10% of the weight you have to lose. So in your case if you want to lose those 45lbs, exercising will only result in about 4.5lbs. Of course many other benefits to exercising especially for your family history. Maybe start with walking. You don’t have to go to a gym. All I do now is stretching & use resistance bands. Do about 4 sessions of 5-10 minutes of various activities. Mainly for my back & to remain limber. All the best.

Band to RNY..first steps
Krismarie0605 replied to ColoradoChick's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I did the band first because 7 years ago it just seemed right ! I was 22 and all i was worried about was getting skinny so i could wear cute clothes . Never really did no research just heared it was safe and went for it ! Plus everybody had a horror story it seemed back then about rny so i backed off . Then my best friend had rny a year after me and i watched her success and then many friends and family did it and all had major success . After six years and only a 40lb lost i desided to go foward with the revision . I had my lap band removed and rny the same day 1/29/13. Best choice i ever made i have lost 51 lbs and feel great ! To make a very long story short i pick the band for all the wrong reasons but now i got a second chance at success and i love my new life ! -
I had revision seven months ago, and feel so happy with it. I just feel normal, long gone are those choking feeling, no gagging, no forced or non forced puking, i can sit down and eat with my family (before i had to stand to eat, and that usually ended up with a rush to the bathroom)). With the band i was always hungry or thinking of food or feeding on sweet stuff that me feel better. Now i eat a small meal and im satisfied. I do not live to eat. I just live. I have lost just about 105 pounds, feel great and best of all get to live the life of an active mum! The only down thing of my weight lose in one of my daughters eyes is now she can't play hide and seek behind me!!! Good luck with the op! It will change your life!

Band to RNY..first steps
iamworthit replied to ColoradoChick's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My doctor requires a month of Optifast pre revision. I start optifast on may 12th and surgery on june 12th. Im praying the revision is a success and they don't just take the band and require me to come back for a third surgery. -
Hi. New here also. Getting sleeved 9/14; revision from band. Scared too. Took less than a week to get approved and scheduled. I wasn't expecting that! The thought of having most of a perfectly normal (?) organ removed is a little daunting.....

Did Anyone Have The Smaller Lap Band 2002
Oregondaisy replied to kuntrystrong's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a small band and had no trouble having the revision surgery and the band removed at the same time. Are you having any problems or symptoms of band troubles? -
united healthcare- railroad employees?
HYCIERRA replied to HYCIERRA's topic in Insurance & Financing
Pancake, thank you for the reply. How did the revision go and how are you liking your sleeve? I just got the call this past Friday that UHC approved me!! They just accepted my dr's notes from the past few years, so I didn't have to do 6 months supervision! I'm having my ultrasound and pulmonologist appointment on 6/17 and then I'll get my surgery date. So excited I can believe everything is falling into place finally!! -
Almost 7 years post op - gained half back. Recommiting
Itsgood2Bqueen replied to loridee11's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I had a 2nd slip last year and the doc did a revision (first time it slipped I had a doc who didn't believe they worked even though I had lost 72 lbs in 7 months -I started at 237- so he simply emptied it without doing any imaging to see how bad it was. I agree that it isn't the same. Doesn't mean it won't work if I go back to basics. I too have gained half of it back. Saw these posts and decided it was time to start logging food and exercise. Keeps me honest because I weigh, measure and put it in writing. Good luck to you. You aren't doing this walk alone. -

pancake1271 replied to HYCIERRA's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have UHC and I'm a railroad employee (BNSF) I had the lapband back in 2011 and they covered it 100% no deductable, no copay. Then in Jun 2012 insurance changed. I had a revision from band to sleeve in Jan 2014 and had to pay a deductable and copay ( it came to about $900.When I went for my lapband I just had to document my weight loss attempts over the years. UHC was very easy to work with on getting it covered. -
Do you still identify as a wls patient?
mi75 replied to Healthy_life2's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Yes I do and probably always will. At 4 years out I still say "i'm a bariatric patient". Sadly, I had some regain and had to fight my way back from that and have 7 lbs to go. HOWEVER, when I saw my surgeon last fall we talked about the fact that I still have very persistent GERD, and take a PPI twice a day. I've maxed out doses on 2 of them in the past. As a FNP I'm very familiar with the risks of long term PPIs, so I'm STILL probably facing a revision. I see the surgeon again late July so I'm hopeful that maybe things will turn around before then... -
About to be revised...anyone in Northern CA??
bubbz333 replied to amschuttpelz's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm currently waiting for a phone call to schedule my surgery date. I'll be getting a revision from sleeve to bypass for severe GERD at Kaiser Richmond. Look me up on Instagram if you all want to keep in touch there. I have a personal and a WLS account, here's both: bubbz333 (personal) & vsgbubbz (WLS). I'm much more nervous about the surgery this time around so it would help to have some people to talk to that are going through the same thing. -
