2. Yes, unjury hands down has been excellent. The chicken soup saved me during the pre op diet. All I eat right now is yogurt and pudding and crm of wheat. What did you eat at stage 2-full liquids? Any Ideas for me...... I feel like I could return to work.......I know I shouldnt but I could. Isnt Dr Carlin awesome? He is so reassuring and kind. I really like him and his staff. What kind of activities are you doing? How much walking? It was easy over the weekend, it was so warm, but know with this freezing weather I am forced to bundle up or go in the basement on the treadmill...... Well, have a wonderful day, I am thinking of pulling out some Christmas decor and starting that.....I got bit by the Christmas Season bug at the craft show I went to the other day. Kim
3. Thanks for the feedback ya'll! I just got off the phone with the doc. He did not seemed concerned at all. He said what I was experiencing was normal sensation and actually the restriction I'm feeling is what they're looking for. He said if I'm not happy with the feeling they can always take some out. The challenge is that being new to this, I am not yet keen to the different post fill sensations. So far, I've had a Protein shake and a yogurt and I'm not feeling hungry at all. Who am I!?

DAY FIFTHTEEN

For me soft foods and mushy were the same thing so I am not sure what you should eat. Mushies I ate tuna, flaked fish, beans, refried beans, scrambled eggs whisked with skim milk, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta with spaghetti sauce. Best of luck.
5. Thanks Tammydago, I too often get discouraged. Many from my group who had surgery months after me have lost more, but I know they are much younger, are lower BMIs than me, and my exercise is all in the pool and they are running and doing "boot camp" type things, which I am not up for now. I also choose to eat real food, not everything that's low-fat or whatever because I want to have my habits and portions reflect what I know I can keep up forever. I felt if I did all the yogurt (which I hate), no-fat cottage cheese, etc. I knew I couldn't sustain. So, eventhough I have had long stretches of no loss, I know I can maintain...and my measurements still change, so I try hard not to focus on the # on the scale.
6. Check out some of the recipes I created while on my 6 week full liquids. Ignoring the peanut butter ones, of course. I also got chest pains with the heaviness of some things like peanut butter if I was not careful and had too much. Once I started doing this I was getting more than my recommended 60grams a day. Some of them are pushing the limits a bit, but most of them were a true life saver, as I never found myself getting desperate for real food!
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Weight Loss Tools
J’s High Protein Full liquid Recipes PHASE 2: Full liquid diet This starts 1 day after surgery NOTE: On the Full Liquid Diet, up to 6-8oz per meal is OK for 3-6 meals a day with lots of water and mini 2-4oz Snacks in between (snacks are optional, but can create slower weight loss). Make sure to drink LOTS of water. The bulk of your fullness should be water. Stop before feeling full. I am consistently losing weight with these measurements. Remember to drink or eat very slowly. You can train yourself by using tiny baby spoons. The point of this 6 week plan, I am told is partly to shrink your stomach and get you prepared for the first band tightening where you will be limited to very tiny amounts. The doc wants you to get bored of these foods, because after the 6 weeks, you go strictly to solids and water. No more mushy or liquids. All of my recipes include ingredients that can be found at most Whole Foods Markets, Trader Joes or Meijers Grocery. Organic products are all optional, but I (from recent experience) highly recommend for those wanting a more rapid weight loss or healthier system in general. Using skim milk over cream or any other dairy milk will speed it up as well. The nut milks are a great way to sneak in even more nutrients. Most grocery stores carry these organic products now, but you have to look for them. *All my high fat recipes include only healthy or beneficial fats that have not been processed and do not include any hydrogenated oils. Please check the nutrition labels before purchasing any ingredients.* My Personal Tips for More Rapid Weight Loss Using the Liquid Recipes: 1. Use my snack recipes only once a day 2. 7. For purées I did homemade refried beans, deviled egg salad, cottage cheese, yogurt, and ricotta marinaira bites. I had my 3 1/2 week post op a few days ago and begged my doc to be able to add chicken because I was worried about protien too. On my plan they don’t want us to do protien shakes because they want us to get protien from foods instead so I was really concerned. My NUT told me that at this stage they are not expecting me to hit my protien goal yet so that made me feel a little better.

10. Ugh, bananas - IMPOSSIBLE for me to eat with any fill. I could eat an apple with the skin more easily than a banana. There is no rhyme nor reason to what our bands will tolerate. I couldnt eat easily bananas, yogurt, ice cream, juice, milk, but I could easily eat bread, steak, raw carrot and salads.
11. WOW! what a ride. Much more than I expected. I am home. Trying to find something to drink that A. does not make my ankles swell. B. tastes tolerable.. I am still on the anitbiotics so I wonder if that is what makes every thing taste bad. Except S/F pudding. Sweet things taste OK. I am wanting something hot so I have been drinking herbal teas. Now, does any one have this swelling problem? Even with low sodium soups? Should I just make my own? seems such a waste as I can eat/drink only 1 or 2 oz at a sitting. The Experience was quite different. I really liked the care I recieved. If you choose Dr. Almanza. I would suggest the option of the hotel. I did not care for the recovery house. Here is why. rooms are small/tiny. no air conditioning. barking dogs outside. one shared bathroom upstairs. food is prepared down stairs for all. When you cannot eat that is hard to deal with. My hubby stayed there the two nights I was in the clinic/hospital. When I was to come out, he got us into the Hotel. I was concerned as I would not have a nurse, but, the fine staff brought me my meds and juices and teas and all was perfect. Hubby got American TV (baseball and football) He could go down stairs and get any food and drink he wanted. American newspapers, with sunday funnies. The Hotel provided free popsicles, soups, yogurts for me. Our room had two queen sized beds all soft and comfy. I had a table to sit and drink my meals, LOL. The hallway was safe/great to walk around for exercize. Walked at 12 and 2 AM one time, and, I got up to three times around before I left. The last night there I felt good enough to get dressed and go down for dinner. The Chef made me special soup, chicken broth blended with mashed potatoes. It tasted yummy. I am sure that is where the sodium overload started, but I loved that soup, all 1/4 cup of the huge bowlful they gave me..God I am still food obsessed, LOL I am sure the staff at the house does all this also. The nurse from the Clinic that did my IV came to the hotel and removed my drain tube. He was so good. (thanks again Edgar) I also had Sevier (on staff at house) come and give me a massage. He is excellent. My back was hurting and my right leg was numb from laying on my back for so long, so, he was a pleasant relief. Could not talk Hubby into massage, heehee. Overall my rating for the experience is an 8. (1 to 10) Here are my reasons for 2 points off. I would have liked to see the hand cleaning stations on the wall inside the rooms. I would have liked the appratias used to come in sealed bags that the nurses opened in front of me. I would have liked the nurses to put on gloves and dispose of them in my room. I wish the cleaning crew would come in after each shower and disinfect. I was lucky to be first both days. I hated (one full point off here) the drive clear across T.J to get the Xray Leak test done. yes, I understand the necessity, I still hated that dam trip. There was a parade outside the lab, so surreal. I know some go shopping and do stuff on their 3rd day, just not for me. I was finally ready on the 5th day. Felt good and upbeat. Finally felt good about what I had done. Met a lady that was escorting two friends having sleeves. (Canadian) She was 7 months out and looks soo cute. She is 5'7 and 165ish, So I have revised my goal to that. It has been so long since I was a "normal" weight I did not have a realistic goal in my head. I was 240 at weigh in, but 245 when I left. All the liquid retension I guess. Dr. Almanza got snippy with me under surgery,....I am a Moley person lots of raised moles. He asked my hubby for permission and they removed 4 from my lower mid section. Love that. Extra stiches, but who cares? Thinking of that,,,, did any of you remove your own stiches? Did that go OK? Gotta do that on the 25th or so.:crying: So, that is my experience. Great, positive and LOVED the staff/people I delt with.. My hubby even liked it. He got to talk with several couples and Dr's about this whole deal and got a MUCH better attitude towards my weight. He is much more supportive in a positive way, for that I am truly grateful. If I need any futher surgery, IE: tummy tuck, etc. I would go back there. But, I would drive straight to the Hotel and be picked up from there. Marriot, TJ. Hope that does not turn anyone off to this deal, it is the best. The nurses I had were so darn caring and good at their jobs. Ricardo was my assigned personal support staff. He spoke very good english and tried very hard to accomdate all my wishes. It all went well for me, hope it does for you where ever you choose to go. Just do not be afraid to get-r-done. Onward and Downward---weightwise:thumbdown::001_tongue:

Deviled Eggs?

I've recently discovered that Greek yogurt is a good substitute for cream cheese but I hadn't thought about mayo. I make great deviled eggs and I know at least my husband would love me to make more. Hmmm. Eggs are on sale this week.
13. "Ch-ch-ch-ch-chia!" They are tasty, good for us, and even decorative on a clay figurine. Seriously, though, I love chia seeds sprinkled on my Greek yogurt. Pre-op, I would eat oatmeal, topped with Greek yogurt and then Chia seeds. Now I don't eat the oatmeal, but still very good.
14. lol! If I had a nickel before every time I wish I said I could eat more I'd have well, not even a nickel. Now, I'd have at least enough for a cheap pedi. Really though, if you can stomach the Isopure, that does't sit as heavy in the stomach as the milk based shakes. If you can get even half of one per day that's an extra 20 grams of Protein. I was on only liquids for 3 weeks so yogurt and pudding were off limits for me. At 3 weeks I did start making spike pudding and that helped with the calories and protein. You are rocking it my friend, keep it up! Dang on the straw though, thought I was gonna get to yell at you and get all judgey. Now I gotta go find someone else to pick on.
15. Hi. I just started my pre-op diet 3 days ago and i've already lost seven pounds. I've been using SECURE protein shakes (pina colada flavor) with one serving of yogurt blended with ice and whole milk. I LOVE IT. You can buy some on Hsn.com or Qvc.com but dont get peanut butter flavor. yuck. GoodLuck with your journey

Liquid preop begins today

Thx again guys. I'm fairing all right. I have dropped the cottage cheese as of today and it is liquid and yogurt until sat night then clears only for Sunday Monday and surgery day on tues. Mid afternoon here and I am focusing ion drinking water. I have been surprise how it really has been fairly easy. Maybe because I had built it up to ne this huge thing in my head. Ironically all my friends have been calling me everyday to go to lunch, lol. But I was thinking about what I normally eat and already am like wow, that was so much more than I needed.

Sleeved and healing well

I totally skipped pureeing anything and just did soft mushy food... Lightly scrambled eggs, yogurt, grits, grilled tilapia, cheese, tuna with light mayo, sliced peaches... I just chew chew and chew.. I cannot drink food. It seems a lot of people on here did the same thing... Lolololol

New at this

I am finishing with day 4 as well and today just plain stunk.... I feel nauseous 24/7, burping like no tomorrow and can't sit for any period of time b/c of the pressure build up. I too feel like I can feel a knot under the skin on my right side and imagine its the band area...lol... but who knows. I drank my shake way too fast this morning and thought I was going to see it again for the rest of the day. I know I need to walk more but I am just plain tired (I have Fibromyalgia) anytime I feel a change I panic thinking somethings has gone wrong. LOL... tonight after I SLOWLY ate my yogurt all of a sudden I realize I don't feel half bad, I should have been relieved but nooooo I instantly think maybe the band has slipped or something. I think its hard dealing with something you can't see or feel except internally. Makes it harder mentally. We are a work in progress..... we have done the physical repair now its time for the hard part....doing the mental repair. If you want to talk I am usually on here late at night and we can compare who is the most miserable..... remember there are many others before us that have all been down this road and have made it and so are we.....

Depressed

It is so depressing the liquid diet. I remember those weeks. Looking at the progressive stages from liquid to soft and thinking really 4 weeks? The sleeve is so grumbly until it heals. It will be a few months to heal. I fussed a lot in the beginning but now I eat a lot of yogurt and two shakes a day. The other meals I eat with my students then family I choose the good stuff protein fruit veggies. A carb only if it is insanely worth it. Sugar never is worth it. I'm 10 months out:)

Food getting "stuck"?

Thanks everyone. I am definitely petrified of chicken because of the experiences I've had. Like someone above said , it doesn't matter how small the bite or how much I chew , it hurts. It started to happen with salmon one day too but luckily I recognized that feeling from he time one little morsel went down and I stopped eating it. I'm much better today. I took it easy yesterday - just Greek yogurt and such.

I had surgery VSG on 2/17. My surgeon gave me a "Phase 2" diet that includes mushy foods like apple sauce, yogurt, soft meats, and cottage cheese. I am supposed to introduce one or two of those per day so that I can learn what is comfortable and what isn't. He also stressed that I eat slowly so that I learn to recognize when I feel satisfied and then stop eating. Does your surgeon's office not have a nutritionist to guide you moving forward? Post opt diet.

Is it full liquids or clear liquids? For my full liquids phase I did protein shakes, strained cream soups, and drinkable yogurt. That was about it. The soups were nice.... went and bought pretty much every kind my grocery store sold and tried them all over the course of that phase. My favorites were Campbell's Cream of Shrimp made with 2% milk and Progresso's Chicken Cheese Enchilada.

July 17th

I got the sleeve done same day as all of you. I am not sure what is going on as I feel normal now. First 4 days it hurt to drink water. Now I can gulp it and it won't hurt until the 4 of 5th gulp. Anyways I am on full fluid. Milk, pudding, yogurt, apple sauce, juice, cream soups. I can't wait until next week when I can go on baby food. Or puree foods. I am having a hard time getting enough liquid in. I feel like all I do is eat and drink. Then my urine is still really really dark. Anyone else. Has anyone had sex yet? I have a few times. Not sure if that was right of me to do. But hubby was gentle and no pain. So.... Sent from my LG-H831 using BariatricPal mobile app
24. I agree with others about the Protein. I keep a Protein Bar in my purse all the time for "emergencies" and I also keep Protein drinks at both of my offices. When I do snack (which isn't often- I was a grazer preband so have to try to not snack) some better choices have been: trail mix (nuts and a little chocolate), cheese sticks, 100 calorie snack packs, a spoon of Peanut Butter and yogurt. I have made bad choices too-everyday is a learning process for me.
25. So today is day 4 for me post-op. My doctor limits my consumption to only clear liquids, which I could not be more sick of! I'm hungry and feeling a little down today. I don't really have a reason for posting other then that. lol - pretty selfish, right? I would give just about anything for some yogurt or eggs!
