  1. Had my revision from sleeve to bypass Wednesday Home Thursday afternoon. No problems. Abdomen feels fairly sore at times. I wasn’t crazy about drinking plain water . I had bought a pack of those sugar free mix in water drinks and also sugar free popcicles. So far so good. I had Dr Foreman and the Surgery at Crestwood Hospital. They all were fantastic.
  2. Because of my weight gain and my BMI i was approved for the revision. I am also having my hiatal hernia re-repaired and my gallbladder removed. Both of which have been causing my a lot of reflux, nausea, pain and at times vomiting.

any sleevers in their late 50's

I am 53 and will be sleeved tomorrow morning. I am so so happy to see others my age have such great success. I was banded in 2011 due to early menopause weight gain that I could not seem to lose and an uncontrollable appetite. I would eat and be able to eat again in 10 minutes. I knew what this was leading to since I seen others in my family suffer from illnesses due to obesity. I just did not want to go down that path but could not do it on my own. The band worked for a short time. I lost 50 pounds before it started giving me issues. Ultimately I just was so tired of slimming I wanted to get it revised. So here I am! I pray all of us have great success and health in the future.

I think I'm done. But how do I stop?!

@jultrim18 I can’t yet do volume and rarely eat breads...one slice would be too filling, but natural peanut butter is an everyday food source. I can def increase that! @greentealael had a great suggestion with nuts. I can def add in unsalted raw nuts...love them. I will be seeing my BariatricPal surgeon in 10 days or so (depending on my face/neck lift recovery progress after next Tuesday). Can ask questions then. I actually forgot that my healthcare plan will provide me with specialized healthcare coaches for anything I desire, free of charge. Husband just reminded me that I just have to call and ask. Der! I don’t have an ongoing nutritionist because I was a lightweight Band to Sleeve revision and had maintained for years. I guess they assumed that I knew a little something. Not so much! This is a whole new world!
  5. I am one pound away from my revised final goal. I thought I wanted to get to 140 but here at 151 I'm getting boney. I'm a farm girl, big boned and curvy so what sounds like a lot of weight never looks like much on me. I'm happy here. I feel good. And, my suspicions were confirmed when I went to see a plastic surgeon about a chin lift I'm having and he told me I really shouldn't lose any more weight. In fact, he said I had a beautiful, youthful look and if I lost more I'd begin to look haggard and older than my almost 54 years. Problem is, at only three months out, I'm having trouble getting to 700-800 calories a day. I just can't handle a second shake and a second protein bar as well as my food (and I'm sure as heck not going to eat crap to load calories). Plus, I am barely allowed to MOVE for the next 6-8 weeks after my neck/facelift! Any suggestions for maintenance this early on?

    Anyone from Dfw area?

Keller Area, Sleeve to Bypass revision on 8/22. So nervous, 5 more days! Looking for a buddy
  7. Did reflux cause weight regain, or was that the reason you were approved for the revision?
  8. Of course I had it . I don't really see a psychological problem with it when you have your food funeral before starting the pre-op diet if there is one required. Say goodbye if you need it. People say goodbye to a lot of things and it might actually be a ritual that can help you. However, if I would have known that I can almost eat anything I like (there are a few things that make my stomach queasy after my revision) I guess I wouldn't have had it though.
  9. I have to get my mindset right. I am having a revision from sleeve to bypass on 9/10 so I start my 2 week full liquid diet on 8/27. I know where I need to be, and I will get my mind right but this week I seem to be struggling to get there. I am struggling with wanting to eat everything I know I can't and won't be having anymore. I find myself sad thinking about the things I won't be able to enjoy anymore to keep myself on track. I am a full time nurse and my husband and I also own an antique mall so I work the equivalent of 2+ full time jobs. So we both work very hard 7 days a week. We don't party, drink, travel, etc, so the one thing we do enjoy is going out for a good meal or treating our self to ice cream etc. I know it seems ridiculous and I believe me I know I want to loose the weight and to be healthier, but I am just having a pity party for myself that our highlights will now be smashed cauliflower and grilled chicken...lol...which I actually do like. To give you a little background, I had the sleeve 5 years ago and I did great the 1st year I lost almost 100lbs. But once I hit the year mark I couldn't lose anymore and it was struggle to maintain. Even with eating right, exercising, etc. I found myself getting down over not losing an and the scale creeping back up and a started making back food choices. Over the last 5 years I have fallen back to back habits, and I have gained back 60lbs and all of my reflux symptoms. I really wanted to start restricting myself this week and next so that the full liquid diet maybe wouldn't be such a shock to my system. When I had the sleeve I only had to do one week and that was hard enough, but I know I can get through it. But my mind keeps saying go ahead and eat it now, because you won't be able to eat it anymore in a few weeks. I know I can do this I Just needed to vent a little! Thanks for listening! Anyone else have the Last Supper Syndrome??????

    July Gastric Bypass?

I had revision from sleeve to bypass on 7/30. How are you feeling?
  11. @selah65, @ shoregirl75 is having surgery the same DAY as you two. I think she is having a revision, sleeve,to bypass.
  12. @shoregirl75 is having a revision from sleeve to bypass September 10th.
  13. Hi all, I had my sleeve done in 2014, lost 7.5 stone and gained 2-3 stone's back. I have been advised to have the bypass due to severe acid reflux. So I'm thinking of having a revision so I welcome this postand your thoughts. I don't see to much stuff on the successes of having a revision. I'm told by surgeon my weight lost will be slow due to the fact that must of my excess weight 75% had been lost when I had the sleeve, so my starting position is different, he says I'm likely to lose the weight I've regained maybe a little more not that much around 45-50Ibs which is ok by me. I'm interest to find out how much people have lost in 6 -12 months of having a revision from sleeve to bypass. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app

    ? for people with Reflux

Mine started a week after surgery. I was on omeprazole before surgery (which i stopped a few days before and after surgery) and my surgeon said to start taking again when I saw him for my 2 week post op. I recently switched to Protonix 1x per day and i'm fine. But OMG if i forget to take them...lord have mercy on me! I get heartburn right away, anything will set it off. I have my 3 month follow up with my surgeon next month and will be def. discussing this with him. I'm terrified of having revision surgery.
  15. Thanks, @ellie123! It has been really frustrating for me, yeah. But it also sounds like you've had your share of frustrations, and you're getting through it! I'm glad you get your revision next week!
  16. @ellie123 I’m sorry you have been through so much! The shame is the worst part of all of this. I can’t comment on a sleeve to RnY revision, but having just done the RnY I can tell you that you will NOT be hungry. You will not struggle with the post surgical diet because you will NOT feel like eating! I have had a rough recovery to be sure, but the recovery from this surgery is a lot more intense than the sleeve. I went on purée at 2 weeks, and I was excited to eat again but sadly can only stomach Greek yogurt and soft boiled eggs so far!! There’s serious negative feedback if you eat too fast or too much. You might want to look into Overeater’s Anonymous if you want additional support with changing eating habits. There’s a lot of intelligent folks there who totally get it.
  17. @CrankyMagpie wow! You are so dedicated, but I’m super frustrated for you. I’m sure your doc has his/her reasonings but...men it sounds like such a slow painful process, especially when you seem so ready to go from a research, mental and physical perspective. It took me forever to qualify for my first Band surgery. 2 years, denials, appeals etc, my Sleeve was a breeze (had to have overturned port revised and gallbladder removed along with it), and this revision to Bypass was a breeze approval that took 1 week because my Sleeve was malformed as an Hourglass to begin with, I have a Haitian hernia , a structure and oh yeah, I regained all weight lost via Sleeve...
  18. You have been through so much and I pray this is the one for you. I wish you the best of luck. I have read on this site many people have or will be getting a revision. You got this!

    ? for people with Reflux

There's no magic window. It can develop months or even years later. My reflux started immediately. I'm on prescription omeprazole 2x/day, and TUMS as needed. Surgeon will decide before the end of the year if I need a revision to bypass.
  20. Welcome @ellie123 . Havn't read your revision story yet but there are others here that have gotten revisions. Don't worry about getting support, you'll find it here for sure. You have joined a group of wonderful supportive WLS'rs always willing to help others. Good luck to you!!!!

    Surgery Time

I wouldn't worry about it too much, normally surgeons leave PLENTY of time between cases for those issues, it's also possible that, that 5pm surgery is your surgeon's only surgery that day, and that it's that late because of all the other standard appointments they have with other patients. My surgery was SUPER early, so I can't talk to that part of the process, but if you are going in for your first WLS, the bypass generally only takes 2-3 hours total to perform. My revision took over 6, but that's because the lapband I was having removed was full encased in scar tissue and took way longer to get out than expected. Chalk the fears up to the typical pre-surgical jitters. Congrats and good luck!
  22. Hey everyone I had sleeve to bypass revision on June 13 I am down 34 pounds since then put I have hit a few stalls i weigh myself every day is that a good thing to do? I eat right, drink a lot of water. It's kind of depressing but reading your posts helps a lot. I guess my question is how often should I weight myself.
  23. Hi @ttjmom. It’s a long story. Sleeve has been awesome for many, just not for me. If you care to read it, here you go... 3rd Bariatric Surgery: I realize that most people will probably gloss over this topic...because for most 1 surgery works and is enough and if you fall into this category, please know how fortunate you are. This is not my story I am 5'8. In 2007 I was 273lb's and miserable! I got a Band. Following 13 fills and unfills the best I lost was 60lb's, I never achieved restriction, and unfilled to have 2 kids. All weight returned. In an unrelated accident my port flipped, and in 2015 at 265lb's I was revised to a Gastric Sleeve (Also had my gallbladder taken out, a Haital hernia repaired and the band removed). I lost 60lb's in the first 4 months and then...stopped loosing. At 205lb's I would have been happy with my results, but then, I felt no restriction and started to regain! Fast forward almost 3 years to today...I have developed GERD pretty bad and I've regained most of what I lost back! My stomach feels hungry every hour or two, I could always eat WAY more than my sleeved friends, and once I got myself full, it would not take long for the deep primal hunger to return. I have no relief from hunger. Especially at night, I'm ravenous! I became a grazer! I felt that the Ghrelin was back with an Army to fight me! A 80% international traveling job plus unlimited access to food in the best restaurants around the globe did not help. I have felt dejected, humiliated, like a failure, angry, frustrated and the list goes on for miles, if you are still reading, you probably know how I feel. And indeed, It's not just about how I look...it's about how I feel. Horrible!! My weight is pressing, intrusive and pervasive. There is no time that I am not aware of it. I have sleep Apnea, I can't keep up with my 6 and 7 year old's and the simple things in life are hard again. Completely demoralizing... After almost 3 years, I finally said "Enough" and went back to a new Surgeon. An Endoscopy revealed it has not all been my fault. My Sleeve was cut too big to begin with! My new surgeon reveled he knows the work of the previous surgeon who apparently was not very skilled at the time and making sleeves too big to be successful. A Bougie 42 was was too big to begin with but in my case, even that was very loosely cut. To top it off, my Sleeve was mis-shapen to begin with as well, setting me up for failure and I have a Stricture in the middle, causing me to have an Hourglass shape. Top fills up, stretches, bottom is hungry, then food goes to the bottom and is still there, top is hungry, in short...a hot mess! Miraculously given the Haital Hernia, GERD, Stricture and botched initial surgery, my insurance (that does not cover Bariatrics) has approved a revision to Bypass on Aug 22nd. I've been combing the internet for Sleeve to RNY revision but such information is not as readily available as 1st timers. I am so nervous...so frightened to go through with this. Scared of Anesthesia, scared how I would do, scared of the 3 week post op liquid only phase. Scared that I will fail again, that this will not work. Some Surgeons (like the Pound of Cure guy say you can only expect to loose 10 - 25lbs on a Sleeve to RNY revision, woa?? ) But I have to try...I want to live a full and vibrant life and not just exist like an Amoeba! This is truly Project last chance. My husband is supportive, but my friends, judgmental and not supportive. and if ever I needed some advice, encouragement, support etc...it's now... Nervous but cautiously hopeful, and very much in need of your support... Ellie
