Ok, my diet is First 2 day: clear liquids including sf jello and popsicles and tea Day 2-9 protein drinks, yogurts, cream soups, sf pudding Day 10-16 pureed foods, applesauce consistency Day 17-30 soft mushy foods like ground meat, tuna, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs -
I've been doing a fairly good job of staying away from stuff I'm not supposed to eat. I was able to keep carrots and celery and stuff like that that I could use as fillers in my meals. I used small amounts of fruits and berries mixed with plain or sugar free vanilla yogurt. Yogurt made s nice dessert at meals or added to salad as dressing. But it's end of the month and I don't have those right now. I find myself positively longing for some kind of sweet treat. How do I get passed it. Haven't broken yet but Dairy Queen's not that far away. (Also know that something as sweet as a blizzard will probably not even taste that good. My daughter decided I wanted a taste of hers and poked it in my mouth. Too sweet, just the one bite)

A question for those that are 6 months out and more.
orionburn replied to TexasMommy80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know these people exist, but for me I can't see having any issues hitting those kind of numbers at 6 months out. My doc wanted us on 3 meals a day and that was it - no snacks. There was no way I could do that. I had to aim for 3-4 meals plus a protein shake to hit my 60g for a day. I probably average 1600 calories a day being a year out. Truth be told I could easily be over 2000 if I wanted to. It's all about what you eat and how often. Yes, my portions have to be smaller, but if I wanted to graze all day long I could and easily rack up the calories. Even with healthy options like cottage cheese or Greek yogurt those are easy to get down. Really it isn't anything you should be overly concerned about IMO. -

I had my pre-op diet a couple days ago and I'm allowed 2 protein shakes and 2 meals (60% lean protein, 40% non-starchy veg). What's your pre-op diet? This is my list for post-op weeks 1-2: Eggs FF refried beans Apple sauce (with unflavored protein powder) Chili (I'm going to mash the beans up so that it's more of a pureed consistency) Greek yogurt Ricotta Bake Pudding (with protein powder) Weeks 3-4 Sliced turkey Tilapia Soup Buffalo chicken dip That's what I have so far! -
I would definitely say no, not at this point however I want to point out that week 3 is not always pureed foods. Every surgeon is different. I started soft foods on day 3-14 which includes things like yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, eggs and even ground turkey as long as it's chewed very well. I am on day 10 post op and doing very well with all of these items. Day 14 I get to move into regular textured foods in 2-3 ounce portions and I'm so happy to have more options. Again, everyone is on a different plan, but I think the biggest thing is don't push yourself into anything that could cause you harm or discomfort. It's not worth it. Patience will pay off in the end.

Hi all; I need any and all remedies for getting off a darn plateau. First I would like to ask if any of track calories and/or protein for the day. I guess I need a little more structure meal planning wise. I am lactose intolerant so I can't do the cottage cheese/yogurt thing. When I have a protein drink I mix it with non-fat lactose free milk and it is quite good. I have writing down what I eat daily and can now see my trouble time is between 6pm and 8pm..I walk daily for 30 minutes, my nurse said to vary with free weights cause your body gets used to the same exercise routine and you stop losing..looking forward to your hints!

Sheila

I change up my Snacks super frequently because I get bored pretty quickly. I've found that the 100 calorie packs are a little too expensive for my liking. So I'll buy a few different things each week. When I get home, I open the bag (or box) and portion them out into individual ziploc bags. That way everything is portion-set per bag and I don't have to think about anything in the morning when I'm still half asleep getting ready for work. I just grab stuff from the fridge and pantry and get on my way. I also keep a few things at work because that's where I get into trouble (if I don't come to work prepared, I eat HORRIBLY). Like everyone else, fruits and veggies are good. You can go back to kindergarden and rock some ants on a log (celery with pb and rasins), chips are my weak point so I don't indulge in them often but there's one called pirates booty (think cheese puffs but healthier) and those are great. Nuts. Granola. My favorite part about my grocery store is the bulk candy/snack aisle because I can make my own "trail mix" with sunflower seeds, nuts, dried fruits, et al. I usually throw a few m&m's in there to keep my sweet tooth happy as well. Snak paks are good but like anything else, get old after a while. Cheeses. Yogurts. Veggie chips. If you have a sweet tooth... try getting low fat cinnamon graham crackers and fat free cool whip. Split a graham cracker in half, make a sandwich using the cool whip in between. Put a bunch of these in a tupperware container and freeze them. The graham cracker gets a little softer and the cool whip freezes so it makes a make-shift ice cream sandwhich. No lie, they're REALLY good. Don't know the calories or fat but it's not high and I seem to remember it being very low. Definitely nice to mix it up at night when you need something sweet after dinner.

Is This Too Easy?
girlnamedNikki replied to O.T.R. sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's nice to read that it's so easy for others as well, I kind of felt bad posting stuff like that on here when others are talking about barely getting down liquids. I'm 3 weeks out today, lost 31 pounds already (yay!) but I do seriously question my dieticians methods. Doesn't make sense to me and everyone else is so different plus I'm freaking hungry!! My post op was a bit difficult because I did cheat and tried Beans too soon. In turn this caused me to be backed up and I ended up in the ER twice with obstructed bowels. (Side note: I recommend anyone PRE-op getting an enema prior, only makes sense in my eyes, especially now) Anyway now I'm puréed and it sucks! I don't get how people are eating lunch meat with cheese or greek yogurt when we are (according to my dietician) only supposed to have 1/4 cup of food. Or cheese sticks? I know I've been bending the rules and eating soft foods and I really can't eat more than like 1/2 cup but if it's Soup, even with chunks, I can do a full cup+. Anyway it's frustrating seeing all these different post opp diets and not knowing what is right and wrong. Yes everyone heals different but I wish there was a unified post-op diet. Heres mine: 2 week full liquid (I went 2.5 cause I was in and out of hospital and they feared leaking) 3 week puréed food (until aug 8) / 3 meals (every 5 hours) / 500 calories / 18-25 grams of Protein a day (She's changed me to 3.5/4 hours eat, cause of my lifestyle and the fact that I'm hungry) 1 month soft food (until sept 9) This is let the sleeve properly heal I've been told. Frustrated. -
I've basically stuck with the same things: chicken, eggs, cheese, and yogurt.

I can eat a pudding cup in 1 sitting...Normal?
TES replied to TexasRed1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yeah--you won't start feeling restriction until you are on solids. Pudding is sort of a slider, like yogurt. Don't worry.... -
4 days out can't get enough fluid in
mandilou replied to tammy49's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
what about adding some protein powder to your soup, or pudding? Or, trying Chobani yogurt - it has 13g protein a container! You will have to navigate around the chunks, but still a nicer option than constant protein shakes. -
I just had to call my nutritionist because of the same thing! Its totally normal. The reason you can eat what feels like 'too much' is because you have an empty band.Once you get your fill, that'll subside. If its too tempting to eat more than you should, sub in a heavy duty protein shake (add yogurt, fruit, ice, etc so it feels substantial). Good work on the 20 that you're down!

Overly Full On Phase 2 Foods. How Do You Get Your Protein?
Kareforme posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I started phase 2 of my diet. Overly full on greek yogurt and mashed potatoes. How do you get your protein? I was so excited that I was able to eat that I think I over did it. I'm suppose to wait 1 hour before drinking too. At this rate ill be eating until midnight to get 60 grams of protein in. Did u find it easier to drink your protein in shakes versus food at this stage? I'm a little over 2 weeks now. -

6 Month Post-op Carb-free Diet?
myrori replied to My Big Day 3/15/2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't miss the carbs after surgery. in the beginning you can not get bread down and would your really be drinking or eating sugary foods? At 3 months a typical day for me is the following: Protein shake 3 carbs Greek yogurt 5 carbs chicken breast or tuna lunch,, after a few bites of the meat there is no room for bread or much else protein shot 0 carbs chicken or turkey for dinner and maybe a bite or two of broccoli. There really is just not a lot of room and you want to put quality calories in, not ones with carbs that will raise your blood sugar and slow weight loss. While you may think you will miss food, the fact is you are so totally full that you will not miss it. -
Hi all, Only a few things taste different for me. Only artificial sweetener I can tolerate is Splenda. Whatever is in sugar free pudding didn't used to bother me but now I can taste it big time. Someone recommended using sugar free pudding mix with the greek yogurt. Yuck! And I'm losing my taste for Spaghetti Sauce because it gives me heartburn. Also less prone to go nuts on sweets or fats for more than one day running because I feel crappy the next day (not to mention the weight gain!). Lynda

Jachut replied to Steelers Fan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There are pkenty of low carbers around ho will tell you ketosis is a good thing and the way your body is meant to run. Now you know just how dangerous and stupid tha is. You cannot live on protein alone, you need good carbs too and at this stage even yogurt, pudding and custard are acceptable. Blend som frui into purprotein shakes for example. -
Hungry Or Not????
mommykristie replied to mommykristie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you had asked me a month or two ago, if I had a sweet tooth, I would have said yes!! However, I have noticed that since the preop diet, I haven't had any "cravings" for sweets like before. Before, I could think about a sweet and just have to go get it. I even noticed that when I went out to eat with the family this week, one child ate ice cream and the other ate a piece of cheesecake, I didn't even desire them. Talk about a shock because these are two of my FAVORITE desserts! Having said that, for my Protein shakes on the liquid diet, I did choose the chocolate flavor and now that I am on mushies, my yogurt is key lime pie flavor. So I guess I am getting my sweet fix flavor without the calories of the real thing. -
I saw (albeit in a nectar ad...) the suggestion to mix: Nectar Lemon Tea w/Crystal Light Peach Tea. Supposedly is delish..........but I haven't tried it. Is there some reason no-one is suggesting smoothies: frozen fruits, plain lo cal yogurt, unsweetened apple juice, whey powder -- run thru the blender for an icy drink. My big problem: makes too much.

What's your post-op liquid diet? Are you hungry?
portia1972 replied to RedheadGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did, and a little bit of faintness at the end of my 2d week. But that went away as soon as I started on pureed foods. I had too many milk-protein shakes and had a bout of constipation, which was very painful, so keep that possibility in mind. I enjoyed low sodium V8, yogurt, V8 fusion, milk. -
Overly Full On Phase 2 Foods. How Do You Get Your Protein?
Mommadreams replied to Kareforme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm two weeks too and I can totally relate. I can now get the Protein in by starting the day with decaf coffee with 1/2 scoop unjury vanilla Protein powder. One scoop is 20g protein but I prefer taste with half scoop. I drink protein shakes or have Greek yogurt almost every day. Sometimes if really having desire for something with weight to it, will add full scoop of Unjury cheese sauce powder to grits or mashed potatoes but liken others have said, I try to avoid carby stuff. One scoop of the cheese sauce is 20g. I also add the fruit punch flavored protein shots to sugar-free fruit punch/crystal light/watered down Gatorade. Protein shot is 25g. It's the only way I can tolerate protein shots. The rest that I tried I found to be pretty yucky. We can do this! Some days I feel like I have worked so hard to get the protein in and then realize I did it but only ate 200-300 cal. Feels like a lot of work but totally worth it! Hang in there...
