    What is PBing?

Yes, stick to the diet the doctor gives you religiously. It is crucial for your healing. I also lost my most weight then! Good luck to you! Where are you having your surgery?

    ooowiee mama!!!

I had surgery Feb 1st, lose 21 lbs so far, had my port flip, got revision surgery on March 28th. Got my first fill of 3.5 during that procedure. Went for second fill April 11th and got 3.5 more. Finally felt restriction but gained 2 lbs in a month from eating too much ice cream and not exercising. Got back on track and lost 3 lbs in 10 days in may! Went for my 3rd fill yesterday and Dr again thought my port had flipped but he got fluid in. He couldn't get it back out and 4 sips of water sent me into a puking fit! HORRIBLE!!! if I ever felt that after eating I'd never eat it again! I was filled to 10 ccs in my 11 cc band. I find out my line has a kink but if u push down on my fat roll the kink goes away and fluid can be taken out. I am filled to 7.5 now and it takes me about an hour to eat a normal sized plate of food. I go back in 6 wks and will have to get fills by x ray until I lose enuff weight to loosen up my kink!

    Pre surgery testing

Many overweight people have sleep apnea, it is considered a "co morbidity" of obesity. Of course, if your weight CAUSES the apnea, then losing will CURE the apnea. Most sleep apnics are tired all the time even if they "think" they got a good night's sleep. Over time apnea can cause many problems including heart attack or stroke. Many people, facing lap band, are tested for apnea in order to fulfill insurance requirements. If you do have it, you may be prescribed a cpap machine which will help you keep breathing throughout the night so you can rest well. It will not impact your surgery; you will be intubated and on oxygen during surgery regardless. Post op your doc may want you to bring it to the hospital; it will be up to him, depending on your diagnosis and degree. Not all overweight people have it (I don't) and not all people with sleep apnea have obesity as a cause. Hope that answers your questions.

    Pre surgery testing

I have sleep apnea and use a cpap machine. The doctor asked me to bring my machine with me the day of surgery in case they needed to use it in the recovery room. They didn't need to. The sleep study was interesting. They hook you to a million leads all over your body then say, relax and sleep. Somehow I managed to! Getting the cpap was one of the best things I ever did. I sleep so much better and am not a zombie anymore. I hope that as my weight falls of, I will be able to eliminate using it! Good luck!

    Update

Ok so I just finished week 2 after my TT and things are great except I caught my husbands cold so sneezing is a OMG moment. Other than that no more pain meds and cutting back on the Advil. The brushing is almost gone, I have been massaging them daily. The swelling is going down and as that does so is the weight. If I get brave enough ill put up pictures lol.

    First Fill?

Bands are left empty when they are first put in (although I am sure there are some Exceptions to this) I was able to get my firt sill at 6 weeks post op, however, I decided not to get it then, I was still losing weight easily, in fact rapidly. I finally had my first fill about 12 weeks post op.
  7. Okay so I have Aetna insurance and I am doing the three month program. I am currently on month 2 (about to be on month 3). In November (first month) my nutritionist weighed me in at 270lbs. I have also been seeing an exercise therapist that also weighs me and in November she weighed me in at 271lbs. At the very beginning of December my exercise therapist weighed me in at 271lbs. I just had my second nutritionist appointment today 12-22-10 and she weighed me in at 280lbs! I've gained 9lbs in December! Yes, I am definitely going to blame it on the holidays. I have been to SO many Christmas parties and it's just hard. Now, I know I can lose that 9lbs by my next and final nutritionist appointment which will be in January. However, I am just a little worried that my insurance company (aetna) will see that 9lbs weight gain and deny me. I mean, I AM going to lose it by my next nutritionist visit and be at my original 270lbs. I am just worried about insurance. So my question is, has anyone gained weight during their weight-loss program but then lost it to be back down to their original level and still got approved? Thanks!
  8. @@Maribelle I would not recommend gaining weight. They usually require a documented history of a BMI over 40 and would see that you just gained alot. I would take the chance they'll approve at this BMI and if not - appeal.
  9. I'm new to forums and have a questions. I had a fill done 3 months ago and since then can not eat bread or any meats. If I try after eating a few bites I start getting a pain near my band and vommit. To top it off I just moved out of state and need to find a new doctor and considering having the fill taken out. I'm worried I will gain weight or not lose any but hate being on liquids only. Is this normal, is it possible I have too much fill and can this be dangerous?

Can't fit in enough healthy stuff

That's brilliant! I had forgotten about v-8! I'll go check our their products! Are they high in sodium though? I used to eat tuna every day, in fact I had a whole routine. But because it was always the same thing I grew tired of it. Ironically, that's also when my weight loss slowed down. :tongue2:

Very happy for you Barb!!! I was originally scheduled for your date, but insurance glitch postponed it to 12/17. I wondered what kind of weight loss peopke would be at if I had gone on the 30th.

    question

I've read somewhere that people have pain b/c of the loss of mass on their butt. Haven't heard of any solutions other than gaining the weight back. Maybe a pillow?
  16. Okay so you need the following: 1. Whole black mustard seeds 2. Whole cumin 3. whole coriander 4. Cinnamon sticks 5. Whole Green Cardamom pods 6. Cayenne pepper 7. Turmeric 8. Bay leaves 9. Whole black pepper 10. Nutmeg That sounds like a lot I know, but it will set you up for success. They are so much cheaper in an indian grocery store than our typical little jars we buy at the grocery, it's worth a trip. Alternatively, whole foods, sprouts, central market, etc. all sell them loose in containers and you scoop out what you need by weight. Get yourself a fancy container like this if you want to keep them in one location: http://www.amazon.com/Matbah-Stainless-Steel-Masala-Container/dp/B009CSZA1U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1378682426&sr=8-2&keywords=indian+masala+dabba And get a cheap coffee grinder like this: http://www.amazon.com/KRUPS-203-42-Electric-Grinder-Stainless/dp/B00004SPEU/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1378682491&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=coffee+grindr The differences in flavor come from either a) grinding the seeds, dry-roasting the seeds before grinding, or c) roasting in a bit of oil before grinding. Each of these tastes completely different. If you have this, you should be able to make the garam masala recipe I've posted, as well as the chicken curry. I will post some daal recipes one of these days and they will use the same spices, as would all the veggies I make. Enjoy!

    Surgery scheduled

StaceLG, this is such an exciting time for you. I remember back before June how I surfed this site to gain information and to make new friends. I think it is great you are getting banded. Its so worth it. Best of luck to you.

    Pittsburgh Magee Hospitlal

Depends on the surgeon you choose if you're looking to see how long the weight monitored nutrition diet is. Also depends on your insurance. My surgeon was Dr. Courcoulas. Her program lasted 5 months for me. Magee is a great hospital. The staff was awesome when I was there. If you choose the surgeon I had, just follow her instructions and her surgical staff's instructions. I seemed to get a quick surgery approval listening to them. Feel free to ask me any more questions. [emoji846] ---------------------------- HW- 273 Pre-op Wt- 230 SW- 226 CW- 184 GW- 130 Ht- 5'2.5" DOS- April 26th, 2017 "Only those who try will become." ~FFX
  19. I called called 10/25 or 10/26 and spoke with someone at Clark County Hospital regarding Lap Band surgery and paying for it with Care Credit. They have not called me back as of Oct 30/07. I called Caritas/St Mary's and Elizabeth Hospital and left a message today, 10/30/07 for them to call me back. Will be waiting for a call back. :help: Weight Loss Tickers

    Three weeks in

You lost 20lbs in 2 weeks?? That's pretty darn amazing!!! Sounds to me like you're doing great, and right on track!! You can't expect to lose those big numbers every single week, as long as you keep following the rules and doing what you're supposed to, the weight will continue to come off!

    Feeling Blue- Abnormal Scarring

Exactly. I was carrying 150lbs of extra weight. If I can even get near my goal, scars are so the least of my worries
  22. I love my band. I was a volume eater and it sure helped that. I got the band orginally because of my health. I have liver disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholestral. I had to make the decision to pull the plug on my Uncle who had the same illnesses I have and was only 63. I was 55 at the time and I have 4 grandchildren I want to see grow up. I no longer have diabetes or high blood pressure. I am taking 11 pills less a day since the lap band. That helps my liver counts, so my liver is getting better. Losing the weight has been the bonus. The lap band has helped me do what I couldn't do on my own. I don't even mind obeying the rules now because the benifits have been so great.

If you couldn't gain at all, and one month your weight is 390 lbs. and the next month you are 396 lbs. they can deny you. It's not the same insurance but my friend's nephew gained weight during Christmas and his insurance stopped him and said he would have to start over on his monthly weigh ins. I hope I'm wrong and it doesn't come down to that for you, God Bless!!!
