  1. Hey! I have been battling with this for many months now... only recently I have realised that I am smaller.. a lot smaller... but it took best part of a year. I remember when I was first sleeved and the preceeding months, reading topics about how long it takes for the head to catch up with the body. I must admit, it is true... for some reason, the ole grey cells are reluctant to realise exactly what is happening. You're 4mths out and lost an incredible amount of weight... try to focus on the positive stuff and not the negative... ok, ok, ok, that is easier said than done... you will start to feel the difference soon... even if it is in spits and spats. Keep up your good work and congratulate yourself on a daily basis! Oh, and by the way, we were exactly the same weight on the date of surgery!! =]
  2. You need to check your insurance. At the seminars I attended this question came up, and the answer was that they use the beginning weight of you six-month diet to determine eligibility. But again, check your insurance policy and surgeon's office to be sure.
  3. Same here Jenny! I feel like I'm depleting my body and the only thing that is keeping me mentally on track if you will, is the weight that I'm losing. I was finally able to finish an entire chononi yogurt this evening which made me feel better since its 14g of protein.

    Watching 20/20-Feeding Tube Diet

I heard this was the "bridal diet" of 2012! Wow! I know someone who went on the HGH diet. Self injections of a harmone that tricks your body into thinking you are pregnant, while eating about 400 cals. a day. Sure, she lost 25 lbs. really fast, but it's slowly but surely finding it's way back. These seem to be "vanity diets" targeting women who want tolise weight, but don't nec. need to.

  7. Hi, Im Stephany I am a 911 supervisor in Knoxville, TN. Just starting my 6 month diet monitoring plan with Drs. Mancini out of UT Hospital. Currently on ATKINS to get myself to a more comfortable state of being! Looking forward to May and starting my new life. Have been on Atkin's for years and years, and like many, I am usually very successful losing the weight, its the keeping it off where I lack skills! Will try and learn as much as possible in the next 6 months by reading your posts...! Would love to hear from others near-by!
  8. 5' 2" and dating losers, now that has a familiar ring to it. I guess in my case it wasn't so much losers as commitment phobics. Of course that was / is my issue as well. Hopefully as I lose my weight I can face some of the issues in my life which got me there in the first place. I'm slowly but surely getting my weight off and am looking forward to getting to goal or near to anyway. I have gone down a dress size so far so can't complain. It's great to see long timers bandsters offering to be buddies and motivators for the newer banded people. Good luck on your last 30 lbs !

    Is this really real?

I could tell a little in my clothes and my face after 15 lb, but I knew it would take 30 lbs for anyone to notice. So, now it's been 31 lbs, and I've had 2 people ask if I've lost weight, but family who knew of the wls tell me they can see it in my face. I've also had a couple of people ask me if my hair is different. I want to yell, "No, I've lost 31 lbs", LOL.

    Is this really real?

Hey Caramel, don't get too used to this rapid weight loss. You are probably losing a lot of water right now.

    Not Sure

I have noticed in the last 3 weeks the weight stopped coming off. I am do for my first fill on March 8th. I am doing the mushy food and not going to try the next food group if this is causing me not to drop. I got on scale today (AM) and it said 242 and tonight just wanted to see it is back up to 245 I know that fluids during the day will cause increase. But I seem to go for the fluids when the thought of food strikes me. I know I am only 5 weeks into this but... I live alone and all my life I figured go ahead and eat this or that Who will know. Well I do not think this way anylonger. So hoping after a fill that will help. Oh I sure hope it does. Karen

Protein Bars ? Do you ?

Julia - what kind of trail rider are you? I ride horses pretty much exclusively a trail rider these days! I think Quest are the most palatable for the nutrition profile. Premier Protein bars don't taste very good but are high protein. I think Protein Bars are fine, but I give my standard warning to not let them become too much of a "habit". Over time, I realized I was sort of abusing them, using them almost like a candy bar substitute - I like the Quest ones that much. Quest bars are cheaper if you can find a special and buy them by the box, but I learned that I can't have something that tasty in the house, in large quantities and not expect me to eat 1-2 per day which is just more than I need. When my weight loss stalled around 7-8 months out my NUT immediately zeroed in on my behavior with those bars and she was right. Now, I do sometimes use a quest bar as a meal substitute, but I buy 1-2 to have on hand, not one or two boxes.

    Snacks and Work Lunch Ideas

I use work to get in my liquids alot. I am often busy no matter where I go, so the way I prepe for work is similar to home. I would evaluate HOW you can eat at work and how easy it is to prep, how secure your food is, if you have a fridge, etc. I have been really fortunate that way we have a full kitchen, only 6 people sharing it, etc. Cans of spinnach are worth their weight in gold. Tasty and hydrating all on their own, they don't need ANY refrigeration and a little lemon and avacado really turn it up a notch, too. I eat alot of mono meals, which is just a bowl of fruit or veggies (at 20 months out I am almost fully raw). You can also "play" with your food. I LOVE BENTO BOXES!!! I have so much fun that way. seaweed Snacks are good, an apple slice, almond butter and wrap it in a spinac leaf is OMG awesome. a small amount of nuts can help fill out your requirements for the day. finely chopped kale, walnuts and dried cranberries with some blue cheese and pears make a nice dry salad - no mess.
  15. Happy #Sleeversary to Me! Year One.

I am 11 months Post-surgery and I am doing great. just hit 100 lbs lost and 5 lbs past my goal. feel great. the hair loss has been bad for me also. I get the same comments, "STOP LOSING" it is a bit irritating but oh well they mean well. just another way to say I look good. so this point in not really trying to lose weight but I'm still losing about 4 lbs a month. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I doubt it'll fix itself. Once the skin is stretched it's not going to go back perfectly or become "flat" no matter how much exercise you do. Try ab exercises and overall continue to lose weight, but I doubt your skin is gonna go back. I started at 245lbs, at 19, and mine hasn't budged so I'm all saved up for a tummy tuck. Good luck and congrats on your loss!

    Insurance vs Financing

Here's what I did: Got a personal loan from Wells Fargo, opened an account with Care Credit (used this the least because the APR is super high) and I even sold one of our extra cars. Worked for me! If you have decent credit find out about your bank and if they'll give you a personal loan. Try to also look for credit cards with low APR's or that offer 0% for so many months. Have a yard sale or sale things around your house that you're not using. It may only come up to a few hundred but it's better to pay that than have those hundreds on credit and continuously paying interest on it. If you want surgery bad enough sometimes you have to do things for it you wouldn't otherwise do. I can tell you this, every penny I paid was worth it's weight in gold. Good luck!
  20. I am now almost 5 months out an work out sometimes twice a day. I have gained 2 pounds should I start to worry?

    Feeling Kinda Blah...

I am on a supervised diet...this is my last month. The first month I gained 4 lbs the second month I gained 3 lbs. My goal is to lose 2 lbs this month. All I can say is forget the past and try to just make healthy choices. I am not dieting per say but I am trying to change my food choices and exercise more(not kill myself...just walking everday at lunch). I hope to lose the 2 lbs and I will say I am so glad the holidays are over...they were setting me up for failure trying to start a diet November and December. I bet this month will be better for you. Don't give up. Start it over fresh for 2012----and good luck!

    Feeling Kinda Blah...

Hi Amanda, This is the first post I've replied to in a year or more. I had my surgery on 1/19/2009, so I am almost 3 years out. At 3 years I should have reached my goal weight. Although I haven't, I feel great! I am still 25lbs from my absolute goal weight, but have reached 3 big milestones I set for myself. My 4 milestones are/were...lost 35lbs..check. Lose 50lbs..check...get to "Onederland"..check and finally get to my goal weight (working on it). My point in telling you my story is this....this journey is yours and yours alone. If you want to cut down on foods to make you feel better..do it! If you want to feel better...do whatever you need to do to get it done. I would suggest walking..that made a HUGE difference for me! Everyday, focus on walking at least 30 minutes...do it in 10 or 5 minute increments if you have to. But setting even a small goal like that can completely change your outlook! Congratulations on your new "birthday" coming up..it will truly be a day that will change your life forever! Chin up...you're already on your journey. How you choose to prepare for it, is up to you and your doctor. You can and will do thiS!!
  23. I am so ready for this. So far so good. I drink a Protein drink for Breakfast and lunch, then I have a lean dinner of chicken & veggies. My surgeon said I could choose dinners from Lean Causine or Healthy Choice. I bought plenty of tea for when I get hungry. I sit down and eat. If get hungry I remind myself that I get another meal in a few hours. Then I do anything so not to think about it. Now here is where I am lacking. I haven't done any exercises like since forever. The most walking I do is from my house to the driveway where my car is and from my car to my desk at work. Ugh! so worried my weight loss will not be enough at my surgery date.

    Quick fix?

In my honest opinion, and from my own experiences, this is NOT the lazy way out. If diet and exercise worked for everyone maybe it would be different. But guess what, the same thing does not work for everyone in the world. This is a big decision, and like you, I have a child I want to be able to see graduate. I have tried to diet, starve myself, exercise, pills, etc..none of it worked. I gain, lose a little, gaim twice as much back. To me, this surgery is the thing I need to be able to live a normal life.
