  1. Hey, I had a VGS on 22nd Nov and now 4weeks PO. I’ve lost 22lbs so far (11lbs of this on the LRD pre surgery). I was hoping for a little more progress than where I’m at currently, I’ve been sitting at a loss of 22lbs for the last 2 weeks - I know of the 3 week stall period, just want to see if anyone had had similar losses to me in their first 4 weeks to see if I’m on track, as often posts I see it seems everyone has massive losses in the first month or so and mine seems a little low :( starting weight was 250lbs ans I’m 5ft 8in for reference - thank you

    Excess skin after WLS

When I was 29 I was 220 at 5’5. I lost 90 lbs and hit my goal weight and had no sagging skin whatsoever. I even developed a 4 pack abs but I also incorporated daily cardio and strength training in my life as well.

    Body Scale

I have 3 scales. lol My favorite is the Innotech wireless Bluetooth smart body scale that I got at bariatricpal. That thing is so consistent regarding weight. Up to date, it by far, the most consistent scale I've ever owned. I love the app too. My other two scales are not consistent at all, especially if I tilt or move.

    Holy moly!!!!

I think my cousin is trying to kill me LOL She's a trainer, and she gave me some really good pointers for cardio, strength training, and weight training. Well, today was cardio day, and she said to go to speed 2.5 and incline 15 on the treadmill and sustain it for a solid 30-45 minutes. I thought "no problem, I can do that". OMG by the time I got to incline 12 I thought I was gonna die lol It took me 20 minutes to work my way up to incline 15. Once I got to it, I was able to sustain it for 40 minutes. I'm so proud that I was able to do it. I really didn't think I could, especially at the end. Now I'm exhausted and my body is screaming, so it's time to eat dinner (chicken drumsticks) and then take a long, hot shower.

    ARG!!

Yep, I hear that. I'm in my first real stall since starting to lose weight. (Fake stalls are where it's obvious why you're not losing weight and it's cheeseburger or couch-shaped.) Trying to just stick with the program, keep up my activity and not freak out, but trying not to freak out is like trying not to breathe for me. 😂

    July 2022 peeps!

Hello July buddies! I'm 5 mos out from surgery. I hope to post a couple of pics here soon. My highest weight was 290 lbs about 2 years ago; I'm now at 175 lbs. I am still losing a pound every few days. I'm learning my triggers and finding new hobbies - which includes cooking! My goal is to be 150 lbs but i'll see what my body tells me to do. My husband is scheduled for bypass next month. Very excited for him! I'm trying to remember all my tips & tricks to help him out. He says my progress has been a great motivator for him. He's such a sweetheart I hope you all are doing well & are healthy. Merry Christmas!

    ARG!!

I just started yet another stall. Each one lasts longer than the last, and my last one was 4 weeks long. So I'm just settling in for the loooong miserable wait to get out of it. Last time I was in it, my nutritionist recommended adding weight training and switching up my calories (1200-1300 on working out days and 900-1000 on non working out days). I added weight training 2 days per week and eventually upped it to 3 days per week. I also reached out to my cousin (she's a professional trainer in AZ) and she gave me some tips for cardio to build up strength and switch up what I do. I ended up losing 13 pounds in 2 weeks doing that. Aaaaand...now my body is freaking out about the large amount of weight loss and I'm in a stall again.

    December surgery

Doing pretty good so far. On day 5 post op. For some reason I couldn't get warm yesterday (no fever) . Went to be early with a weighted blanket. That finally warmed me up. I tried the warmed up premier protein shake yesterday (chocolate peanut butter). What a difference that made. Hope everyone is doing well.

    ARG!!

My one pointer given by my nutritionist recently was to "eat more" lol. I was like WTF? and she was like if you eat less you can gain weight. she went on and on explaining it but i forgot haha. basically make sure you are on a stable diet getting around the same calories everyday

    ARG!!

Hmmm, yes it stinks. Its just not as much fun when you can not adjust your ticker every day. I use MY FAT SECRET to track my food and if I don't adjust my weight every two weeks it prompts me to update. It always feels as if it is judging me, lol. I usually swear at it.

    Does it get easier?

The first few months post-op are the hardest because you’re still healing from surgery and adjusting to a lot of changes, but you’re not yet getting the benefits of the weight loss. It’s very normal at this stage to have feelings of regret and wonder if the surgery was a mistake. As time goes by, though, it gets easier in many ways. You’ll be able to re-introduce more foods into your diet as well as get used to the changes that will become your new “normal.” And in the meantime, you’ll lose a lot of weight and get to experience life as a non-obese person. This rough part of your journey will be a blip in your memory, and if you’re like most of us, eventually your only regret will be that you didn’t do this sooner. I’m 2.5 years out from gastric bypass and I can eat pretty much normally. I still avoid foods that are high in sugar or fat, and bread, pasta, and rice, but I tolerate most foods and I eat pretty normal-sized portions. In fact, it scares me sometimes to see how much volume I can eat, and I have to be pretty careful to eat low-calorie foods. Sometimes I kind of miss the early post-op days when I could only eat a few bites at a time and was never hungry. Although it’s not fun, take advantage of this time because it will never be easier to lose weight than it is right now.

    1 Year PostOp

Thank you so much for the kind words. I had surgery at 300lbs my bmi was around 60 I believe I'm only 5ft tall. Almost all my weight is in my mid section Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Body Scale

I have the Fitbit Aria scale. It is connected via Bluetooth to my Fitbit and Fitbit app and then automatically updates my stats to the Baritastic app, which I love! It does include BMI and multi-user settings for age and other stats. I've had it for 2 years and just now had to change the batteries last month. If I step on the scale with my phone, even when I'm not wearing my Fitbit, it automatically enters my weight so there is no separate recording/logging, which is a real plus to those early morning weigh sessions. 16. First congratulations on your weight loss so far. Yay! Secondly, constipation is a common problem & a pain in the butt (meant the pun). Try adding some non swelling, soluble fibre to your diet like Benefibre & ensure you’re meeting your fluid goals. Try to keep on top of it with medications, & try to avoid not going for extended periods of time - too painful & stressful. I didn’t mind if I didn’t go every day but I took a stool softener if I hadn’t gone after three days so I would have some action on the fourth day. Maybe track your pooping (not Sheldon Cooper style 😉 but just when you go) so you can avoid prolonged periods if constipation.
  17. The end of the honeymoon phase means not that you won’t or can’t loose anymore weight but that you’ll have to work harder to lose it. The honeymoon phase refers more to the time when you’re losing at the faster rate, your hunger & interest in eating is low, those initial wonderful benefits of the surgery. After they start to fade, you have to rely on the work you’re doing to establish new habits & your learning & understanding of food, eating & your body’s needs. For most the honeymoon period ends around the 6-12 month mark when their hunger starts to return, they’re eating larger portions & a wider variety of foods & as they get closer to the weight their body wants to be. Their are many who continue to lose weight well after this time.

    Hope this times a charm...

I kept getting pushed back too. You must be feeling so disappointed after doing all that prep work too! Just think of when you do get the surgery you lock out all the weight you have already lost. The surgery as a lock sustained me through many bumps in the road. You’ll get there. Have a proper cry then Keep loosing weight to beat that lock out and make the loss more sustainable. You got this. Covid/RSV/ flu can’t beat you!
  19. I was told to expect to lose 125 lb roughly from the surgery... Pre-op I lost 40 so that's about 165 lb of loss... I think I can lose more than that being that since the pre-op diet in June to now after having surgery October 6th I have lost a turtle of 92 lb.. My goal weight is 180 to 199... Why 199 you say? I want to be part of wOnederland as my mom had calls it who have bariatric surgery 13 years ago... I haven't waited under 200 lb since I was 19... I'm 36 and I'm ready to roll!!!! I also decided that I didn't want to be super duper skinny because that doesn't look good with my frame. So I am completely happy with 180 to 199
  20. I feel like I am more conscientious than ever of attaching a moralistic value to weight and making sure I am treating it as a neutral. One thing I worried about alot in the week before my surgery is somehow contributing to the societal bias and negative treatment of overweight people by getting the surgery. I feel like I worry about that more than anything.
  21. I can assure you, there is no deadline. Eat less calories than your body needs and you're going to lose weight, even years out. I recently lost about 2 kg because we had a stressful time at work and I ate less than I usually do. It's likely that I'm going to gain that back when things will be a bit slower again but for me it's proof that I can lose weight by eating less even several years out, be it intentional or not..

    Post op plastic surgery

I've been considering filler - since weight loss I have what I feel are pretty deep folds around my mouth. Not sure if you chose filler for the same reason - if yes, does it help?
  23. That was basically the road I took in the end. And don't believe that nonsense that you stop losing weight after a year ("honeymoon phase") or so. It's simply not true. In fact it's IMO a blatant lie.
  24. LookingForward22

How did you choose your goal weight?

My program doesn’t set goal weights (however they do ask if you have one to asses if your goals are realistic). My goals were focused on my health (all met and surpassed) so far, but I have personally set mini goals for myself. First one was get below 300 pounds. (Check) Second mini goal was loose 100 pounds total (as of today check… 57 pounds before surgery, 43 pounds since surgery). I haven’t set my next mini goal yet - I need to think about it a little. I am hoping to loose a good bit more… working towards a healthy BMI, but along the way if I feel like “this is where I feel and look my best” I’ll stay there. I’d love to hit ONEderland, just because it’s been forever since I’ve been there… but we will see where this journey takes me.
