    NSV & Observations

Great NSVs! I love that my feet don't hurt as soon as I'm out of bed in the mornings. Digging being comfortable crossing my legs again (and not needing the assistance of my arm lifting my leg to cross them). And as you said....loving that food doesn't have the same irrational pull it had on me before surgery. Happy too that the way I look on the outside is starting to match how strong and happy I feel on the inside. Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App
  2. OMG...I cannot cannot cannot WAIT for this NSV...I have always been comfortable Indian style (I don't think it's called that anymore...ooops.)...but I want to cross my legs like a lady...I might start wearing skirts again...I never do because my legs stay open while seated... I hadn't even thought of this as a bonus...Something to look forward to. Right now I am 6ft tall and 285...so I don't know if it will happen any time soon...but I hope so! Rain

    Turtle Tribe Holiday NSV Challenge

Alright Ladies and Gentlemen, time to check-in with your NSVs. 11/5/05 All my pants are starting to look like giant clown pants, none of them fit in the butt or thighs anymore. If I didn't have this damn thick waist, I would really be in honest size 18 jeans. My black leather jacket is going to have to be retired soon. It's rediculously large on me now. The sleves alone now hang past my finger-tips and it looks like I could smuggle a medium sized ham in each shoulder. So I tried on my big winter coat, and now it really is my huge winter coat. It's about XX too big. It's fully reversable a suede stadium jacket, with lepord fake fur on the other side. I love this jacket, but next year, some other lucky bandster gets to love it. It's important for me that last winter before I was banded I couldn't zip the black leather jacket up. There was a 2-3 inch gap that just wouldn't meet. While the stadium jacket fit, it was pretty snug. Not any more! 11/10/05 Lastnight I was using my laptop. In my lap. This means that I HAVE A LAP!!!!! Woot! 11/14/05 When I sit on the floor or in a hard chair, I feel the bones in my butt. Not only my tail bones, but other bones (probably my pelvic bones?) as well.

Sarah, that makes perfect sense! Finding "me" again is so important and so very wonderful all at the same time. It's like looking into the mirror and seeing a friend you haven't seen in far too long. Finding that spark, that flame, that glitter. And wow! 35 minutes on the elipictical, you kick my butt! Megan, I'm so glad you are not taking your NSVs for granted anymore! Thise are so important. And Kelly, accepting yourself, and loving yourself is the name of the game! The fact that everyone loves you just as your are should be proof that you are wonderful as is.

    Turtle Tribe Holiday NSV Challenge

Okay, I love this thread but doing the Fall Challenge...well, I'll join in after Thanksgiving. I will, I promise!!! Plus I have my NSV thread going...I just can't keep up. Great NSV's people!
  6. Medium tops...all around and size 8 jeans? I believe, I believe. Thanks for starting this thread, my family gets bored of me sharing all my NSVs...LOL!!!
  7. These NSV's just keep coming ! ! ! I put on a pair of sweats that I had washed, and put away in the Dresser. They are a XL in size. I put them on today, and they were falling off ! ! ! I was going to the Gym, so I said NO ! It can't be.... I need them for today until I come back and do the Laundry. Then I thought WHAT ! What are you thinking "YES!" That means you now fit in a Large in sweats, My husband looked at me and said wow! you are shrinking ! He saw how they just hung on me, so did the top. So I said I'll pick some up somewhere, but at this rate, I'm not buying all new, These are about 6 weeks old, and they were a snug fit. Not Anymore! So now I'll be trying a LARGE. That's a size I haven't been into since I was in my Teens. I had a unfill, so I thought I don't want to gain weight. I guess I was wrong.. You look in the Mirror, and you just see you ! I had no idea at all that I dropped a size in sweats . This band is Great ! If you have patience, and don't worry about the scale so much. Just work out and watch your cloths sizes shrink... This works ! That's how it works for me.... Shirley.

    Turtle Tribe Holiday NSV Challenge

OK here is my NSV for this week. Well it happened over the weekend but it still counts. LOL!!! John and I went to a musical conference and had a display booth there with his music and other items to promote him. There was a friend of ours there that hadn't seen me since I was banded. HEE HEE!! John was talking to our friend and this guy who I have known for 5 years looks at me and says to John, "Who is this?" I look at our friend and say, "HELLO, IT IS ME PENNI!" He takes a jump back and says loudly in a crowded room, "NO FUCKING WAY! WOW! YOU ARE HOT!" LOL!! Isn't that the greatest?! By the way, does anyone else feel taller after losing weight? I just realized I feel taller for some reason. Could be I feel better about myself and don't wanna be in the back or slumped down trying to hid anymore.

    Sunta NSV's

Congrats Sunta! It's so important to keep track of your NSVs because they tell the real story of your journey! I"m sure it's all very nice to be able to say "I've lost 50 pounds" but your NSV list shows what it really means to have lost that weight. Congrats and well done!

How is Everybody Doing? What's New?

Well. I had my 2nd fill on Saturday. He did it under Fluro and I ended up getting a BIG fill. He put in 2.9ccs so now I have 7.9 in my 10cc band. I was supposed to be on luquids all this week, but I have failed miserably. I made it 48 hours before I had to eat something. I've been trying to stick to mushies, but today I had a little bit of grilled chicken and it went down fine. (Thank God!) I think I'm going to be right where I need to be with this fill. I was satisfied eating less than a tea-plate sized portion. (YAY!!! ) In other news, I have lost 40 lbs since surgery day!!! Such a big deal to me! I'm so proud of myself... I get teary just thinking about it! NSV wise I've dropped 2 almost 3 dress sizes and cleaned out my closet which was bittersweet. I can't wait to see what happens in the coming months! How's everyone else doing?
  12. Everybody has been so quiet lately, so I thought I would start a new topic on how we are all doing. Just a topic where we can check in when we can. I'm doing okay -- the weight loss has definitely slowed down, so I've had to bump up the exercise and adjust my eating a little bit to shake it up. I've only had one fill, and will probably get another one at the end of this month. I think I need it, because I've been getting a little hungrier than usual -- I'm not snacking a whole lot, but sometimes I eat and think "geesh, should a banded person be able to eat that much?!" Overall, I'm feeling MUCH better than I did a couple of months ago -- more energy, sleeping better, able to keep up with my kids a lot easier, and (I think my fellow lady bandster will be able to relate) -- I can sit and cross my legs very easily now, which a major NSV for me! I love the band, and what it has helped me to achieve so far -- I think that I just need to work a little harder on my end (before surgery, my doctor told me that losing with the band is about 5-10% device/90-95% you, and that it does take work...I'm feeling that now). Hope to hear from you all -- I miss chatting with you. :welldoneclap:

    3 weeks in!

I know what you mean. I gained 3 lbs last week, but then I read the article posted in this thread about stalls and it all made sense. I did check my measurements and I have lost 18.5 inches so far. NSV. My husband tells me to stay off the scale, but it is so hard.

Back to basics and really doing it!

@fadstabora that is a win! Social situations can be a minefield. It must have felt really good to walk out of Wingers having made good choices@chiquitabananaz14 focus on little consistent steps...getting on the scale is up to you... don't feel defeated, you've reached out for support and it takes guts. Bravo! Not everyday is about the # on the scale we all have areas to work on to make ourselves stronger and more resilient...Just look at this thread...you started with honesty and openness and as a result we all found a place we can come for support and encouragement while we work towards our personal goals... your current choices have had a positive impact on others, that is an NSV if I've ever seen one!! Stay on your path:)

    JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

I survived my first dinner in a restaurant. Only ate the grilled chicken out of the taco. Did not eat the flour tortilla or the cilantro & cabbage that were also inside. I cut it up into the tiniest pieces ever. ( I think the waitress thought I was nuts). The only thing that bothered me was that I never got to even take a sip of my water ( damn half hour rule!) The "old me" would have been bothered by the massive amounts of wings & beer that surrounded me. Or the plate of "loaded tater tots" that the couple next to us had. But instead, this Sleevie Wonder was bothered by not being able to drink water when she wanted to. Should we chalk it up to a first NSV???

Do you keep your 'fat' clothes?

These posts are great, thanks!! Seems I'm not the only one who is still amazed that we don't have to plan on the weight coming back on, like we always did before.... I loved the comment about clown pants; that is how a co-worker described a pair I wore a few weeks ago! They may have to go sooner than I thought they would. Last night my best friend (who has a BMI of about 42 and is watching my lapband experience very closely) came over I tried on a boatload of clothes for her evaluation. Some things I thought I could work she said to get rid of; "that looks too big on you", or "by the time winter rolls around and you can wear that item again, it will be too big for you, so there is no sense saving it!" It was great, since it made the process fun. My favorite part was holding up a nice pair of pants saying 'I don't think I can fit these yet', but trying anyway and omg they actually did fit! Guess that qualifies as a NSV, huh? I am happy to know the clothes will be put to good use by other people who need them, since keeping them tied up in storage totes seems like a foolish waste. As we worked our way through piles of clothes, it was crazy to see just how many things I had squirreled away. Bit of a wake-up call, to realize I have way too many clothes!! But I know it is because for so many years it has been easier (and cheaper) to get in the habit of keeping multiple sizes of clothing on hand, in order to accommodate the yo-yo dieting. Thanks for trying to help me accept that things are different this time; I am finally feeling confident about that new reality. It helps to hear about how other bandsters have managed this aspect of their weight loss journeys!

Barbara12 - So good to hear from you. Lunch sounds good, but NO MEXICAN for me! I too lost while in Michigan and quickly put it back on after a day or two of treats. We have to put more muscle behind the band. Enemy #1 and #2 - empty calories and recreational eating. Where were we a year ago? I was EXCITED and closing in on onederland. Shopping in the "regular" sizes was definitely amazing. Socalgal - thanks for reminding me about the ticker. Somehow that gives me something to work towards. At one time, I had lost 60 pounds. I did a little ab work yesterday and my band seemed to be tighter, but not uncomfortable. NSV - I had my old standby as an evening treat last night. Bottled water and my vitamin carmel. It was pretty good.

I have no idea about the side by side Barbara...maybe ask a mod. I tried to upload mine to no avail. Mine kept saying the file was too big. And I hate when you get photos from someone and they are HUGE! No offense mama!heehee. I hope your hubby does ok with his back Barbara. One NSV of this surgery was that I got off my anti-depressants. I took myself off of them actually. Now, after 9 months, I'm fighting the blues. I'll try to battle through cuz I just don't want to be on meds. HAPPY EASTER!

Regina - I missed the program - drats. I bet you looked great. Melissa - you are looking sooooo hot. Love the new avitar. You inspire me. Gotta get with it - almost time to make the drive to closing. Whew! I am ready to lose. Fill is definitely on the schedule when I can chew on both sides of my mouth. (second week of April) NSV - I've exercised to a sweat 2 mornings in a row. We won't mention other issues. I'm working on them. Have to admit getting my heart pounding has definitely cleared my head.

Congrats on your NSV Barbara. Melissa Lea
  21. Yay I love these, especially because the scale hasn't been moving much. First like some of you have mentioned sex is soooo much better, not only because I've lost some weight but also because I feel more confident in myself...that's the biggest NSV I think. Confidence is something I haven't had in a VERY long time. I took a spin class and kicked its ass! I rocked at it, I know I would've never been able to do it before. My clothes fit differently now, my tops are baggy and my jeans just slide off....no need to unbutton anything. I am starting to wear cute workout clothes, LOL I guess that's the confidence thing again, but no more big long shirts. my mom put her arm around me and said "what the hell is that?" I touched where she had her hand and it was my port. OMG you can feel my port by just pressing down a bit, before you had to DIG for it. I'm wearing heels again, no hooker 6 inchers yet but I'm wearing 2-3 inches at work ALL DAY Boots that I bought a couple of years ago "in hopes to one day wear" fit up my calves...a little tight but they fit!!!

    List your NSV's here!

I'm just going to list my NSVs that I've had since school started the middle of last month! I bought some new school clothes at the end of July in a smaller size and they were a little too snug for my comfort. After a week of wearing the new clothes to school, I had several colleagues tell me that I needed to go shopping for some new clothes because the clothes I was wearing were JUST TOO BIG. I had to put my wedding rings in the jewelry box because I was afraid they were going to fall off at the end of last year. I decided that I wanted to wait until goal to have them resized, so I bought a pretty (fake) set to wear. At the beginning of the summer, I had a ring guard put on the fake set. That set now spins around at will, guard and all. I had several colleagues tell me that they were looking forward to the start of the new school year to "see how great I am looking." :scared2: I loooove these NSV posts. I was feeling a bit down because I only lost 1.6lbs from July 12-Sept 10. I have been watching what I eat and exercising, but the scale wasn't budging! I asked my doctor about it when I went for a fill on 9/10. He told me that although you probably wont read about it medical journals, he truly believes that there is a phase where you don't lose on the scale but lose inches. He went from a size 38 to a size 34 and only lost 10lbs. His wife went from a size 14 to a size 10 and didnt lose a single pound. FYI~ I lost 2.5lbs in one week since my fill!

hello all! barb465-so are you recovered from your fill kicking in? i seem to keep losing and finding the same 2 pounds! what is that all about? i did my own step route last night for 20 mins. boy was i panting and sweating at the end of that! i took last week off, and i think i shouldn't have. even though the scale is not acting right i have a couple of nsv. the new bras that i purchased on my pre-honeymoon back in september now have lots of space in the cup. enough room to hold my cell phone and some dollar bills! also i went to the store last night to christmas shop and decided i owed myself at least one pair of pants that fit right (not scrapping the ground). but, instead of pants or jeans, i saw a denim skirt i wanted. well, i tried the 5/6. it was a tad snug, but still fit because it was that stretch denim. i didn't feel confident enough to wear it. the next size up was the 9/10. i got it! then last saturday i sent my husband to the store to get me some pantyhose for church on sunday. i told him to get size "c" which is down from my usual queen size (and pre-banding i was a queen plus). well, they didn't have any size "c" so he got size "b". and they fit! amazing. so, i guess the band is working, even if the scale isn't cooperating with me!

I have to say Onderland does feel great even though it's already run and hid behind 200.0 this am. Go figure, exercise, water and 800 calories yesterday. Hope a new low buddy returns by tomorrow (my 5 month bandiversary)! Barbara465 perhaps the walking on top of the fill and liquids was too much for you. Maybe you should splurge on a massage or pedicure. You might have a touch of the bug that's going around. Take care. I'm still chuckling over some of these posts. NSV. Walking DVD just wouldn't work this am, so I began "jogging" around doing light housework. My darling dogs seeing me in my tennis shoes badly wanted a walk but they spend way too much time sniffing rather than walking. Finally I couldn't resist their pleas so we agreed to walk fast and stop seldom. We started out with a quick walk, and when they did stop to sniff, I jogged in place. What a wonderful workout. It's a beautiful day and I found another way to multitask with a chore (exercise) that's not much fun. Leila, how's post op treating you? Thanks for soup recipe.

What's so bad about being fat anyway?

Well you're certainly entitled to an opinion, but I disagree with it. I think mental health is every bit as important as physical and the discrimination and stigma that come from being morbidly obese are valid reasons for surgery, they are every bit as serious a comorbidity as high blood pressure. Its such an ignorant way to view the whole thing, to completely disregard mental health and the effects of obesity on mental health. Hmm, standard cosmetic surgery only affects your looks? Surely having bags of silicone put into your chest, necessitating several repeat surgeries as they degrade and making future mammograms to detect things like breast lumps very very difficult all for the sake of having bigger breasts is every bit as risky as bariatric surgery. Especially the lap band. Managed properly and with a bit of luck that you wont be one of the small percentage that experiences probl4ms, a lap band does NOT compromise your nutrition and health, and I'd hazard a guess its much less risky than carrying round a few silicone implants. We all know the health horrors that have occurred due to breast implants. I dont particularly care to stick toxins in my face either or slice bits of my face all for the sake of looking younger. I'd rather look healthy and fit (as a result fof my lap band surgery and the immeasurably healthier lifestyle that has followed it) but look my age than be overweight and lacking in energy and get up and go but having a nipped and tucked face. And I dont think there's many women around who can say totally honestly that vanity played no part whatsoever in their decision. Come on! So many of our NSV's are about superficial things like going down in sizes and such.
