  1. Hello Everyone, This is my 3rd week post-op and I've finally switched to soft foods!! However, I have gained 2 pounds. I'm still only having around 2 oz of food per meal. The only new items I've added are shredded chicken and low fat string cheese. Someone please tell me this is normal. I'm eating enough to gain 2 pounds but not enough to have a bm, what the heck!

    Sleeve revision with FEP Blue

I have FEP Blue and while I wasn't going for a revision, I had gone through the entire process and had an approval, and my surgery was originally scheduled for early 2020. The state I was living in cancelled all elective surgeries for several months at the beginning of the pandemic, and then we moved to another state. I had to start the entire process completely over when I contacted the original surgery center 18 months later (after having tried to start with a place in WV where the dietitian made me cry and I decided I'd rather drive 3 hours than put up with that). I suppose the good news here is that even if you do have to start over, FEP Blue's requirements are a little less of a pain than some others; you only have to do the supervised diet for 90 days and a lot of insurance companies require six months or a year.
  3. Thank you for the insight! Hero brand specifically caters to it being a protein/fiber ‘bread’ with no carbs - so in theory it would contain more vital nutrients (for a wls patient) in one tortilla wrap than in an entire head of cauliflower and doesn’t contain sugar like cauliflower. I think the intrigue of that fact actually lures me! I know it’s processed so that’s where I get nervous. To your point, I have noticed the ‘heaviness’ of foods affects me. Things that are more dense seem to make me nauseated and things that are light like sautéed veggies and lean proteins sit really well with me! I knew going into this I’d have to give up a lot and so far the only thing I miss is bread/tortillas/pastas. But I’d rather have health than have those things. So seeing a ‘bread’ with protein and no carbs makes me very excited. One day I’ll be able to try it, but at only three weeks in, still letting my little tummy heal. PS. Saw your birthday is July 21 - I’m July 20!!!!

    Lap band issues

I have had no issues for 10+ years. 1 week ago I had a stomach bug and vomited a lot one night and instantly started burping. Ever since then I’ve had weird GI issues and burping a lot. Nausea and bloating when eating solids sometimes. But I can eat just fine- no changes there. Any ideas? I’m hoping it’s just inflammation from irritation of vomiting but not sure how long that would last. Any help appreciated
  5. I wore the same clothes home from the hospital that I wore there. I took nothing except my purse and phone. Never even looked at my phone except on the ride home. Shocking huh? LOL I had fam members there who kept the rest of my family updated. At home, my laptop and tv remote kept me occupied between naps. Trying to read a book and remembering any of it that first week? IDK... seems a bit of a fog.
  6. I think sitting all day also added to the problem. My job is office based with occasional site visits etc. This past week not much was going on site because of the heavy rain and public holiday. So I was mostly sitting on my desk
  7. I had gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repair last month. I was in surgery 4 hours, kept overnight and released the next day. I was up walking off the gas which was minimal and going to the bathroom with assistance but most of that first day I slept and rested. I also read all the horror stories so was surprised how well it all went. First week there was some pain but nothing that I felt was severe. Mainly just from standing up, sitting, bending etc. I think 2 days of help at home from your husband should be sufficient unless you encounter more pain than what is considered normal. As for dehydration or standing... they won't release you from the hospital if you can't keep water down or stand up. As least mine wouldn't. Good luck on the 15th!!!
  8. I have told not one single person that I had the surgery— I took off thursday to fly to Mexico, had surgery Friday, stayed in hospital two nights and flew home sunday. I drove myself home from hospital that night after 4 hour flight home- and took one day off work. I worked from home for a week- that’s it, but I have a job that allows for that anyway. I didnt need any extra care past those two hospital days- but I’ll admit i had no real pain and have a high tolerance for it if i do- but i took no pain meds at all. I’d had hysterectomy in November (my VSG was march 1) and knew the incisions wouldn’t be terrible. I probably just looked tired to my kids- but they pay no attention to me anyway, so there is that. (Teens). To date, they have not said a word about my weight changing either. LOL!
  9. My day is coming! I’m looking for some good book recommendations, or podcasts. I’ll have about a week and a half off and figure I need something to occupy my time and it’s been awhile since I read so…. What did y’all pack in your hospital bags? What didn’t you pack that you wish you did?

    March 23 buddies yet?

I'm really struggling with this. I haven't lost weight in weeks and I think it is because I always feel hungry. But its like a stomach growl and I think its growling out of hunger. Very frustrated with it.
  12. Thank you. Yes, I was just told if I’m 100% sure I’ve ate enough more than likely my body is just thirsty. Another thing I was told to monitor while eating is if I start to belch, hiccup, or nose starts run while eating that’s a sign that you’re getting full. I just said for this week I’m going to try setting my alarm for every two hours to do one of the following: eat, drink, snack, and walk. This is six weeks post ops and the first time I’ve ever felt this bad

    Are plastics worth it?

    1. Does that price sound outrageous? Again it’s a good size job and I’m sure it’s more bc of that?? It seems a little high. Definitely get multiple quotes. Find a surgeon who best fits your needs. 2. Is there anything else I can do to reduce this tummy I know the big procedure is the only way to really do it but do these fat loss clinics (must be Lipo? ) clinics work? Nope, nothing will resolve the volume of loose skin most of us have without surgical removal 3. How painful was this? Very manageable for me. A lot of discomfort, very little pain 4. Would you do this in office? I wouldn't hesitate to do it in an office. It's more comfortable to recuperated at home than in a hospital setting. These procedures are regularly done as an outpatient. To answer your question, 100% worth it. Like @ChubRub said, plastics were life changing for me, like WLS was. WLS made me comfortable in clothes, PS made me comfortable in my own skin. I'm one of the Dr. Capella patients that @catwoman7 referenced. He specializes in massive WL patients and is very fairly priced. I love my results. My only caution is, he does better work on low BMI patients, with skin, not fat to remove. I was pulled tight, in a fantastic way!

    Are plastics worth it?

    1. Insurance paid for my abdominoplasty. Since my weight loss caused back issues, rashes under the pannus, among other things, the surgery was classified as "reconstructive" rather than "cosmetic." Insurance paid for it all; 2. I can't speak to your situation, but for me there is nothing I could have done to deal with the extra skin. Lipo removes fat, but we generally also have extra skin. A lot of extra skin; 3. This was the most painful experience of my life. I was warned that it would be extraordinarily painful but it was completely under sold; 4. I couldn't imagine going through what I went through outside of a hospital, even without the unexpected events that required a second emergency life saving surgery.
  15. Time to resurrect this thread as I’m heading back in for Round 2 and 3! First of all, I’m pleased to report that I’m still loving my results from my MMO! Current pic plus closeup of my scar which is nearly invisible! I’m so pleased with the scar that I decided to go for it and get the arm lift and thigh lift done. Would rather have the scars over the saggy skin and I’m tired of wearing long sleeves and pants to cover up. Before that though, I’ll be heading in for a facelift. Surgery is tomorrow. I’m so excited! Ok let me upload my updated MMO pics and then I’ll be right back to post my gross neck pics! Lol!!
  16. There is a saying that you loose 100 strands of hair per day, and I swear before surgery that was true for me. To avoid noticing it much since I have thin hair, one month post op I cut my hair from my hips to an inch or two below my shoulder. I can't really pin point when it did start, maybe 2 months post op and it doesn't seem so bad now, or maybe I'm just used to it by now. It does fall easily, I will run my fingers through my hair and a bunch comes out, but there is no specific spot and I do not think its noticeable to me or others if I'm loosing it. I always had those baby hair which is growth because my hair is brittle and breaks easily. I'm taking the recommended biotin and sometimes collagen, I was washing my hair once a week instead of the 3 times prior to surgery (now doing 2), and leave my hair loose or with a clip that's not too tight, goodbye messy bun lol.

    Are plastics worth it?

I've had multiple surgeries. Some in the states, one in Mexico. My in the states Tummy tuck was first. I was not that pleased. I lost my curve and looked like spongebob square pants. This was done in a surgical center. I was kicked out and sent home pretty quickly after surgery. Not the best experience. This was in 2015 My second surgery was covered by insurance. A breast reduction that was also performed in the states. I am surpised how small he made my breasts, but I've always hated them and wanted small breasts so I was happy. I did end up with dog ears and some keloid spots. I didn't have them addressed, but I'm told it's pretty simple to address both issues, so I may in the near future. This was done in a hospital. It was a more pleasant experience. I did go home the same day. This was in 2016 During COVID I gained 50 lbs and had bariatric surgery. Lost 60 lbs The third plastic surgery was a brazilliam butt lift. I had this surgery in January. I explained that I wanted lipo to try to give me my curve back and a natural looking butt. This was done in Mexico. I am absolutely amazed at this procedure. He lipo'd my back and flanks and extended tummy tuck? Basically gave me back my hourglass figure. He inserted the fat at my hips and butt. I stayed in the hospital for a week. I had round the clock nurses care. I didn't need it. I would have preferred being at home but I don't like staying in hotels/hospitals. I want to sleep in my bed. I found that they do specialize in weightloss patients and have a long waiting list. But cancellations occur and you can move up your date rather easily if you are flexible.

    May 2023 surgeries

Hey y'all! Congrats to all the new May surgeries! @ajrp001 we're surgery buddies! 😀 Haven't had much of a chance to hop on here the past few weeks. Between attending support groups, buying all the things I needed for before and after surgery, then getting things in order at home and church before my surgery took up more time than I expected. Surgery is now only 3 days away! I can't believe it! The anxiety is starting to really go up now! I finished my 12 day pre-op high protein/low carb diet yesterday and today I start my 3 day clear liquid diet. The pre op wasn't as easy as I thought it would be because I eat mostly vegetarian/no dairy due to allergies and trying to maintain the high protein while keeping carbs low was tougher than I thought. Now to survive 3 days of clear liquids only! I know it will be worth it in the end!
  19. mine started at 3 months...and i lost quite a bit (you could see my scalp). i cut it all off into a pixie to camouflage it a bit. started seeing little chicken hairs sprout up around 6-7 months. those chicken hairs grew to be about the same length as the rest of my hair (about chin length) in another year. and now (4.5+ yrs post op) i have a lovely full head of underboob-length hair. and it even grew in with a bit if a wave to it, so bonus! hang in there, its only temporary. in time it will be just another annoyance in your rear view mirror. Good Luck! ❤️

    Are plastics worth it?

SHORT ANSWER: (in my opinion) omg yes, totally worth it. its a serious game changer. 1. Does that price sound outrageous? Again it’s a good size job and I’m sure it’s more bc of that?? I've read similar pricing like that on here at times so not totally outrageous...but I am from Canada and it seems prices up here are comparatively lower. I also had my TT supplement with provincial insurance so that helped reduce the cost. 2. Is there anything else I can do to reduce this tummy I know the big procedure is the only way to really do it but do these fat loss clinics (must be Lipo? ) clinics work? If the rest of you is already "small", then probably not. its not possible to "spot-lose" weight without surgery. Lipo adresses fat, it will do nothing for excess skin. 3. How painful was this? Um...really painful. but im a bit of a low-tolerance pain-baby, so. 4. Would you do this in office? I had a choice to get it done in my surgeon's office or in the hospital. But since insurance was covering part of it, the premium to have in hospital was also covered, so it was a no-brainer: hospital. BUT, if i did have to pay, i would probably have done in hospital regardless just for peace of mind. i remember being low-key scared of not waking up after surgery and the idea that there were all these doctors and equipment to revive me made me feel a little better (dramatic, yes, but still!!). plus i could stay overnight with 24hr care.

    Exercise after surgery

i started walking the evening of surgery. started with walking the hospital halls, to a couple loops around my kitchen island, to a walk down the street, to around the block, to several times around the block, to an hour of walking around that darn block, lol. By 3 months post op i started trying out other things (dance, yoga, zumba, boudlering, swimming, running). Only running and yoga stayed in the regular rotation. i did dabble with strength training for a bit, but i hate it, so i only did it as a necessary evil for a couple years. i don't do it anymore (surprise, surprise!). PRO Tip: find something you actually like to do and you will more likely stick with it. Good Luck! ❤️
  22. I reached goal and decided to stop. I was eating about 800 cals at the time. i admit it was a little challenging to up my calories...a combination issue with my own stomach restriction and the unanticipated mental block of having to actually eat more. it took me another 3 or so months (and another 10+ lbs lost) to figure out how many calories i needed to consume to keep my weight steady. it was well over 2000 cals at that time (i exercised alot!) I ate alot of low volume/higher cal foods to get around my restriction. Fast forward another year or so when my exercise/activity drastically reduced and then had to figure out again what my maintenance calories were. Settled into 1800-2000 and that is where i am at now (am 4.5+ yrs out). I still track my food intake and weigh myself every morning (which i credit to helping me figure stuff out when a "tweaking" is required.)

Surgery Shaming Should Be A Thing…

had surgery 4.5+ years ago. i told a total of 5 people: Mr., the Kid, Mom, Sis & BFF...all of whom i knew would not say anything to anybody if i asked them not to. BFF was the only one who brought up the "cheat" word, but i was prepared for it, and just took it in stride. People around me would constantly ask about my evident weight loss (un-solicited advice about speed of loss, amount i ate, how much weight loss was "enough", how i sick i looked, etc)...and i too became a master-subject-changer (earlier OP has it right, people LOVE to talk about themselves, so subject-changing is relatively easy, for the most part). If its any consolation, as the months and years go by, you and your weight loss become old news and it is rarely, or ever, brought up again. ...Now...im going to bring up something that is sorta against the grain here: while i don't think WLS is "cheating" by any means (i mean, weight loss is not an exam for effs sakes! there are no rules or laws about how it should be done 🙄), i do actually sympathize with the idea that it was the easy way...or at least one of the "easi-ER" ways. In all my attempts at weight loss, no other method (at least for ME) was as "easy" to adhere to than WLS. Getting the sleeve helped me lose more weight in less time than any other time in my life. I had to put up waaaay more effort to control food intake in all my previous diets than i ever did with WLS. with WLS, it definitely was comparatively "easy". And the icing on the cake is that i have (so far) kept it off. I would only manage to keep the weight off before for like maybe 6 or so months. This time around, the weight has stayed off for 4 YEARS (again, so far - i am not so delusional that i will look like this forever...but i'll try lol) So in short (sorry it took so long for me to get here): 1. People suck. Ignore them, OR just feed their narcissism. 2. Suckiness is temporary. Ride it out until its behind you. 3. WLS makes losing weight easier. 4. You look fab!
  24. I really appreciate the views here as I too live alone with my two cats. I've taken a couple of weeks from work and will work from home the third week. I'm hoping i will be ok to go in on the fourth week. I think planning in advance is essential - I plan to prepare a load of little meals in advance and freeze them and ensure I have my shakes and other bits in stock at home. I wont be lifting anything heavy and plan to take easy here on my own - I've just got the cats to feed and change the litter which I'll do slowly. I'm going to do my best to heed the advice regarding keeping my fluids up and if I feel 'funny', ill contact my medical team or emergency services. I had the gastric band fitted years ago (which was very successful until it had to be removed a year ago) and came home alone. I did not have cats then but was fine. Thank you for sharing - I feel more confident now
  25. My surgery is June 1st and I start my pre-op diet in 2 weeks. I am a lot less nervous now - just cant wait as my eating is out of control (I'm told by my surgical team this is normal at this stage). I had a gastric band for 16 years which was very successful. I had it removed last year and the weight has been climbing at great speed. I'm hoping my bypass will be just as successful - I am counting down the days guys. I cant wait to recommence doing the things I could physically do a year ago. Obesity is so cruel - I'm going to do all that I can to make this bypass work for me; I'm going to give it my all ❤️
