    July 2006 Band Crew

There there Paulax.. I feel your pain.. lol No personal trainer here..(good for you!) there is the hug and holding.. I was supposed to go to the gym today but for some reason, could not get up! I was so tired this morning.. UGH.. but DEFINATELY tomorrow morning before work. I will post on here to prove it. LOL (Heck you might think I am lying.. but I hope not!) I am still very restricted and having a hard time getting protein down. I think I have to work on my chewing.. I had some lowfat turkey chili w/red beans for dinner and BAM came right back up.. sorry if TMI.. Hope everyone is doing well! Regards, ~Donnamarie~
  2. My weight loss is slow, but doing ok. I haven't weighed since last Friday and won't until later this weekend. As a female, there is a 'particular time of the month' I refuse to weigh in....sorry if that is TMI. Anyway. On day of surgery I weighed 218 and at the 3.5 week mark I was 208. It is only ten pounds, but trust me I was thrilled. I even did a little celebatory dance at the scale. At least it is ten pounds in the right direction. I am finally feeling back up to speed. The recovery was a bit more than I anticipated. So I now know it is time I must implement (yes, I am afraid I must type the word) - EXERCISE. I am career oriented as well, so work lots of hours, then have to tend to my two young children when I get home. The trick is definitely going to be finding the time. I know it is possible, people do it everyday. But I just have to figure out when. Do you keep a food journal? I have started that and will try to maintain that. I have been told it is a great tool to get on track. How is your restriction? Do you feel you need another fill to help more?

    May Bandsters~February Chat!

Hey everyone! I'm back.... Sorry I haven't posted lately. This is my first day to work this week. I woke up about 2:00 AM Saturday feeling, not right. Really nauseous and yucky. Well, that was the beginning of 72 hours of vomitting and diarreha... evidently I got the stomach flu/virus that has been going around. NOT FUN!!! Have you guys every really had to vomit since being banded? Well, I hadn't. I have never even PB'd. I was sooo scared that with each time I was gonna cause my band to slip. I ate my first food last night since Saturday evening.. and I still seem to have restriction and I haven't had any reflux or anything, so hopefully everything is fine with my band. Man, I hope none of you guys ever get this stomach virus, it was bad. My entire chest, neck, and back area is sore from all the wretching. After not having eaten for almost three days and all that came with the virus, I lost about 3 lbs. Which means that since my highest weight, I've lost 101 lbs. This WAS NOT how I wanted to celebrate my 100 lbs lost! Thanks for listening everyone, sorry if it was TMI. Remember WASH YOUR HANDS CONSTANTLY!!! Especially if you go to the gym and use equipment after other folks.. this may be where I picked this thing up from. Okay.. enough about me.. MARZ, I'm sooo glad that your nephew is home and doing better. I'm sure that the billboard was awesome for him, that was so considerate of you guys. Linda - Keep up the great work! Neal - your family is adorable, congrats on the fitting into the seat thing. Don't you just love that? Alicia - I'm planning a "Girlfriend Getaway" for my anniversary with my best buds in the world... got to get it planned... Vegas? The Caribbean? Who knows? Paladin - how's the job thing?the move? When is 3loves getting that fill? Later Maysters!

    ABC '06 ~ February Chat

I am a teeny bit worried about being prego too! I just have such insane cravings and my period did happen but it was like for an hour then gone. (I know, TMI) I think I'm looking for a way to explain my crazy food thoughts. I seriously lay in bed in the morning and think "Just one more day of eating crap then I swear I will be good" It's the game I used to play pre-band. Serendipity, I gained 3lbs too, but I'm too ashamed to update my stats in my signature. :think
  5. Sorry if this is TMI, but I know that some will understand how good this is... I haven't moved the scale in over a week BUT.... My first NSV ...... I suddenly realized today that I can wipe my a** without the turning and twisting that I had to do for the last year or so. WOW! I guess the inches are starting to come off!

    It Hurts.....can anyone help?

Thank you for your words of wisdom. It is coming close to that time for me and I think that may be it as well. I also seem to have a extreme amount of gas yesterday too.....sorry for the TMI. Thanks again and God bless you, Tonya

    Melbourne Chat Thread!!!!

Bronnie starting Optifast and exercise on the same day isn't recommended usually if your not used to the exercise. You might faint, at minimum you will fill nauseated from the low calories and expendature of even more calories... do one or the other for a few days before starting the other if you feel like your going to pass out today. Also don't go too far from a bathroom... first 3 days of optifast + long walk (say 5km) = explosive bowels until you've cleared out your normal stomach contents. I know TMI but i thought id warn you since I would have loved somebody to warn me! I warned my parents but they didn't believe me and both suffered and said I didn't warn "strongly enough" lol. On the flip side no exercise or not much movement ends in constipation... if that happens they tell you to mix benefiber in with your optifast drink. Good luck though and get that exercise in - it helps better prepare you for the surgery.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Im trying to watch my liquids and get enough. I read a post somewhere on here that a woman got dehydrated and had to go back in the hospital, I am trying to make sure I get at least 40oz of liquid in a day, water, protein shake whatever. As for the #2 question, yeah, I think we all suffer from that. Three days later I was able to, but then nothing since. I know that your organs sort of go to sleep after anethesia and the bowel is the last one to wake back up. Oh, TMI.....:faint:

    mucus blockage ????

I'm reviving this old thread because I have allergies, asthma, post-nasal drip....you name it! Anyway, I want to know what people do besides warm liquids and water. That hasn't worked for me so far. I tried to have hot tea and it sits in my chest hurting until I spit it up with a bunch of mucous(sorry if TMI). Is someone using a particular nasal spray or medication that helps? I have used Nasarel but it does nothing. Should I try Sudafed strips or what?

StephC - WTG on the X-country skiing! You work it girl! And if you were sweating, you were burning calories and losing weight. i'm about to haul my hank up on the elliptical for an hour. Thanks for the offer, but I ordered some of those bands from Ebay last night. I got a green one, a red one, a yellow one, a blue one, a purple one... okay I'm lying. I don't know what colors they are. ahahahah No video though - I found a "woman's workout" dvd and thought about getting that, but I'll wait. I'm also thinking about a resistance ball Carol - hope you're feeling better, honey. And yes, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY! I am looking forward to an additional loss. I'm a bit irregular and it is concerning. I think that has been the worst part about this band for me. The 1 scoop of metameucil isn't working, I think I'll up it to 2 scoops. I'm pooping, but it's hard and painful. (TMI, sorry) Either that or I'll just take a nightly swig of the MOM. I have a pain in my side, and I'm sure it's colo-rectal pain. Not enough motion in the ocean. bk - how's your hair? I need something new done to mine. I'm deciding whether to keep it natural or to process it. I'm also debating a cut. I may just leave it as is for now, and if/when it falls out do something drastic. And congrats on the 5 inches! Doesn't it feel great to visibly see a difference in inches, even when the scale is betraying you? I need to check and see when I measure again. As long as my thighs aren't any bigger, I'm happy. We need to go to Target today, but I really don't want to go outside. It's about 10 degrees out there. I am having that superbowl party after all. Who was it who mentioned the SB party? Whoever it was, I blame you. Claudia, I think? Including me and ds, there will be 6 adults and 2 kids so it should be quick and easy. I'm putting together a menu now - any suggestions? I'm going to count calories all week so that next week Sunday can be my splurge day. How's everyone else? StephC - I can eat this evening. I hope I've got restriction. Has your amount of restriction changed? I'm totally hoping that my belly cuts me off after 1/2 cup. Of course, I've never really had that much, typically at 2/3c. I'm done. Comparatively speaking, that's still not bad. I think I'm going to try a bbq chicken whip tonight. With cheese. Do we have a collective weight loss goal for Valentine's Day? It's 20 days away or something, right? I'm trying to lose 10 pounds by then. Is that insane? Probably, but I'm going for it. More water, more exercise, fewer excuses. I want to hit 250 by then. A solid 250. (which means 249.5) ahahaha I hear DS tearing up my living room - gotta fly! Nat

I will be traveling alone flying from Dallas to Mission, KS. Were you OK with wheeling you luggage around? I plan on packing as light as possible to keep the weight down. What kind of stuff have you been eating? I feel so much better today. No naps so far and my Creamy Soups are going down much better. I was able to take a full 8oz in one sitting. Gotten in 32 oz of Water so far today. I may try for one more water bottle before hitting the sack. It sure is good to hear that you are doing well. The Milk of Mag. worked, OMG, won't do that again. Crap, my intestines are rocking and rolling. Next time 1/3 the dose for sure. I know, TMI. Thanks for the post and have a good rest of you trip. Any trip suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks, D:D

I need to get this out of my system.....

yeah, Im not looking for perfection in any sense....but Im having fun with this bad boy...But im not a Britney Spears, Im not even going to attempt to change him....let it be fun while it lasts....I already know he will be a little posessive, but I can deal with that.....as long as its not ridiculously obsessive.....He's older than me (by like maximum of 6 years) so, I understand that he can do more than me, and I dont care....as long as he comes around by 3 am, Im happy lol! Im really not wanting him to call tonight, because frankly and TMI, Im sore, and hes a freak in the sheets.....I dont even care if he doesnt really like my body, something about it turns him on, and as long as he lies (if he is lying) I will be happy lol! Because it makes me feel great

    Steady losers ;-)

why on earth do you women have to show me that nasty crap!? Needles in belly's, skin hanging like ... Lord only knows what - I refuse to fall for anymore of your tactics! Truth is I didn't look at the fill - not gonna freak myself out but just the idea makes me close my eyes! Ok so theres a lady at my church who had rny (is that gastric bypass?) and she was well over 400 lbs, she lost at least 200 lbs - I seriously think she must be more then 250 because for one she's a big lady, tall, big boned, and even though she doesn't look fat she is still big, husky looking. She had the tt and said if she could afford to have a whole body tuck she would. I saw though her panty hose that all that skin was all folded up and tucked in there. Oh it made me hurt to think of it. and her arms are still flapping in the wind, but she looks wonderful compared to where she had been. And the difference in her personality is astonishing! But then my other friend Trish who went from 275ish to 145ish and is 5'6" to 5'8" (she's taller then me) doesn't have anything except her apron and even that isn't bad. Her legs look great, which makes me have hope. To go off on another thought - I have this huge belly that hangs (sure I'll be needing a tt) and I've always had problems with chaffing. So reading a thread on tt - someone said about using deo/anti pers. and omgoodness! I've seen the light! I just lift that fat belly up and spray away and I haven't chaffed since! that was all FYI - hope it was TMI Just talked to Nate - he's the PA at the dr office. He was just making sure I need a fill. I said well considering I ate 1700 cal. yesterday and I'm working my butt off to stay on this "diet" that I promised myself I'd never do again! YES I NEED A FILL!! Since I had him on the phone I asked if I'd have to do liquids and he said yep - liquids the rest of the day - sucko - mushies the next day and then reg. food the following. Thats do-able I guess. I've done pretty good today but I have this huge urge to eat something like hot wings for supper tonight - knowing (hoping) I won't be able to for a while. Last supper syndrome?
  15. Ladies. I have a silly and embarrassing question. :omg: I am self pay, went thru seminar, consultation w/ doc, etc... (all preliminary goodies). I was thrilled to get my surgery date. Over the weekend I have realized it is right about the time I will be on my cycle. Can you believe the timing? Do you know if that is a problem with the surgery? Not that he will be operating in that area, but still, I am unsure. Any women have any insight on this? I feel like such a dork for asking, be need the banders to throw in their two cents. Thanks!
  16. Ok..Ok I am almost 7 months post op and I have been losing a lot of hair since about 4 months. I am reading about Zinc on this thread and I haven't taken that but honestly I don't know that I can take another pill.. Here is a list of what I take everyday and I don't take it all at once b/c your body can't absorb it as well if you take it all at once and I couldn't get all this down my band if I didn't spread it out this much. (3) Iron tablets 325mg. each (2) Flintstones (2) juice Plus Orchard blend (1) Biotin (3) Flaxseed Oil (3)Alpha Lipoic Acid (2)Stool Softeners (TMI.. I know but its b/c of the Iron) (2)Juice Plus Garden blend (1)EmergenC (1,000 mg C, 32 minerals and B vitamins) And after all of that I only get 4.5 mg of Zinc from the EmergenC and the Flintstones which is 30% of the RDA. Gee... I feel like all I do is take supplements. I went to the doc and had bloodwork and the nurse called me back and said whatever your doing..keep doing it b/c your healthy as a horse. Do any of you take this much stuff?? I feel like a Vitamin FREAK!! Banded 6-27-06 Rumbaut Monterrey, Mx. 257/ 195 / 170ish

    Pouch Dilation?

Thanks for your reply. I worry that I have done this. I don't have the reflux anymore. And I don't think I am too tight (just a little in the mornings) But it seems I have developed this bad habbit of eating too much. I will be full and instead of stopping I will wait a few min till some goes through the band then take another bite wait a few min take another bite. It causes me to have bad hiccups and "burp up" a little and I swallow that back down. I must be crazy. I had this surgery to resolve my weight problems but it seems that even with the band I have the need to overeat. I will even choose foods that I know will go down easy just so I can do this! Seems like that it is really bad during PMS (tmi I know) ~sigh~ guess I am more of I nut job than I knew! Thanks again for your reply. I needed to find this info. -Angie

Dianne I am so sorry - Is it not just the medication? My prayers are with you all.. That is just so sad.. I was hoping she was doing better... Hi Annie ~ day off ~ I wish. Get better.. I am feeling alot better since the meds actually worked. I would say that I would ride some kind of bike but I am having major issues with my hiney right. My chair booty is giving grief. For those that don't know. Ever since Cristian was born I started to get hemmroids. Lovely I know.. Anyway they cause me grief from time to time and they just don't go away. I ususally have to go in and stick my rear in the air so that they can numb and then drain.. I know TMI.. Well better go -- time to go home.. See ya all take care...

Hi! This signal is weak - so it's not fabulous for surfing - but it gets me here enough to check in with y'all. Today we went to the gym and I did (drum roll please) 35 minutes on the Evil Elliptical. Of course, I didn't get overly enthusiastic about any particular songs this time... so I got to breathe the whole time without the raspy throat. :] I guess I shouldn't tell on myself :kiss ....after the gym we went to CiCi's and I ate far to much pizza. I guess it's not as bad as it could have been, since I did and extra few minutes of elliptical penance in advance. And of course my food intake at CiCi's was nothing like what it would have been pre-band. **shudder** at the thought! Sometimes I wish I couldn't eat bread like some other bandsters - and sometimes I am glad I can. :nervous That's human, I guess. As I ate the last slice of pizza, I wondered if maybe I didn't need another fill... but I will hold off for now. So, today, I have been very very good, and very very bad. No domestic goddess stuff, yet - but I have my veggies ready to chop for the evening snacking. I figure I will get around to the tree thing tomorrow. Mandy - Tell all. How was your meeting?? Eileenie - did you get your tree down? Did you earn your domestic goddess merit badge?? (oh - and maybe TMI on the underwear thing... lol!) Cindy - yep - I think the domestic goddess hat does strongly resemble unwashed hair... :] How did the 15 minute plan go? I might have to try that one if it worked for you! Patty - Love, don't change your insurance, change your surgeon. Call the insurance company that you currently have and ask them for the name or names of Bariatric surgeons or hospitals that are in their stinking network - and then go see one of them. Your current doc will understand, I assure you. All those tests you took and paid for? Those are YOURS. All you have to do is sign a letter asking the surgeon to transfer all paperwork to your new doc. If that is the only excuse they have, then pick a doctor they can approve. Heck, if you have to drive to the next county, it will be well worth it. Or, money could still fall out of the sky. Bad shit happens, and good stuff does, too. Keep the faith. Hugs!! Kat - Love you. You are always so comforting. Hugs!! Well - I am going to see how hard I can push my ride... The signal MIGHT let me go see what's up on the other boards... or it might not. I'm just glad it let me stop in here. Hugs!!

Nat - I know what you mean about people not taking care of themselves. I know so many people who have had gastric bypass and go back to eating these huge plates of food. One lady I know is bigger now then before she had the bypass. I've seen my friend Trish at dinners and she will eat a plate full of Desserts and pass up the healthy food - she's said many times she knows she doesn't eat right, besides not taking the extra nutrients she needs. She also works 2 jobs (ok this is where I get into the bitch mode) one is M-F days, 2nd one is Fri & Sat night shift - she doesn't sleep from Fri. morning until Sun. night. unless she cat naps in front of the tv. Her husband doesn't work - he studies - also does the mr. mom thing but when she gets home the kids swarm her and she gets no rest. She told me that when she makes supper and the house is crazy she can't eat, she has to put it up and take a bite here and there or she'll throw up. So I don't know what the ulcer is caused from but I know she has all the factors to make one. My ex-sister in law, whom I'm still close to, goes in Thurs. to get the gastric bypass - I don't get it - why opt for the more dangerous route, I talked with her today and she knows - she's also a nurse so she does know better - oh well. Ddee - couldn't help but notice you don't have much weight to lose. Did you do this for health reasons? Oh this is your 2nd band ... sorry I forgot. So do you have a fill yet? I eat oatmeal or shredded wheat everyday to keep me regular. I poop every morning after my husband leaves for work and then I go back to bed. ok tmi - coffee doesnt taste as good anymore but if I drink a couple sips bam it hits me - tea works too. Tonight I ate a salad and after about 4 hours it hit me so I may not have to poop in the morning since I went tonight. I've had IBS for a long time so I think I must of been allergic to something that I ate for it to go through me that fast. And then while I was sitting on the pot I burped - the humungo stinky get it out of me burp - I was like omgoodnesss I wasn't expecting that. I'm thinking I may not be able to eat salad much anymore. For the first time tonight I had port pain. I watched my friends baby tonight - she's a porker - 6 months old and I held her and picked her up and all that fun stuff so I think I must have strained alittle to make my port sore. Now I know what all of you mamas have been going through. Good night.

Jeri! I love your story and certainly not TMI! Thanks for sharing. I too love the outdoors and despite being a city girl, we have recently begun camping as a family and we love it. It is great for the kids to be outside in the woods as opposed to spending the summer on the sidewalks around here. You have had such an adventurous life, one that I only read about but really enjoyed imagining! Thanks again for sharing and best wishes on a successful journey.

    December Bandsters

So my day is done...house is clean, dog is fed, papers are graded and I want a drink. I'm staring at a well-stocked liquor cabinet and umpteen bottles of wine given to me as Christmas gifts. Ahhhh...for a red zin! Instead, I'll distract myself by telling you all my story before anything good comes on TV. As I have mentioned before, I live in Seattle. I love the Pacific NW for all it has to offer in terms of the great outdoors! I grew up camping and playing outside all the time. I even spent about 7 years as a camp counselor during my college and beyond years. Seattle is great for food, nightlife, cultural activities, sports, water activities and more. I love everything but the blasted rain right now- much more than usual. We had the wettest November EVER! And December is no better. Despite loving Seattle, I left after four years of teaching in a Catholic school to teach 6th grade at an Americal school in Brasilia. I absolutely loved the people I met there, but try being the fattest person on Rio's beaches! Still..., good times. After 3 years there I went to the other side of the world for two years in Istanbul. What an amazing part of the world! It was so rich in history and I left many good friends behind. I adopted my dog when she was a puppy living on the street outside my school. Her name is Siyah (black), hence the handle. She's a great companion and comes to school with me every day. Five years abroad was enough. I came home, bought a house and decided it was time to date. My on-line adventure was fun. Despite being a big girl, I have a fair amount of confidence so dating was not a bad experience. I used to keep track of guys on a big white board in my office so when I was talking with them I wouldn't get confused. My friends would laugh at me. I met my husband on Match and we married a year and a half later. No kids. Unfortunately, after 3 miscarriages I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition and learned that was the cause. Who'd have known? Sad, but now I have a new shot at a healthy life with the band. Our plan is for me to loose weight, making it easier to carry, and get pregnant in a year and a half to two years. I'll be pushing 40, so fingers crossed. Now the house is on the market and we'll move to North Seattle to be closer to jobs. I'm back in a great Catholic school and hubby works at microsoft. All-in-all, life is good and hopefully getting better with the band. Now if only the scale would move again... SO that's my tale. Thanks for reading (TMI???) Whew! Over the liquor craving and time for tea. Jeri

Just a quick hello before I get ready for another food party---football party at my sister's house. I am right now drinking a latte shake sample. I forget who makes it but it is nasty! I am drinking though because I will be danmend if I waste it. This is where it works to buy samples, sure am glad that I did not invest any real money in a bucket of this toxic crapola! Steph-I cannot believe you have a 22 year old. Although, my Mom and Dad are 19 years older than I am so I know what that is like. IT is cool having young parents though since we are so close. My mom is like a friend to me (now-not when I was younger!). I had my first at 24 and felt so young, I don't know how my parents did it. And I turned out pretty well (except for the fat thing-haha). Feta cheese is one of my favorite foods and I was drooling over your feta and olives. I am craving a spinach bake with low fat feta and low fat cream cheese. Like a creamed spinach. I cannot wait to have a little of that. Is that considered a mushy??? Can anything be a mushy if you just mash the heck out of it? What a good daughter you have going to do missions. That is great. It is amazing how quickly we all forget and I thank you for the reminder. BKwalling-glad you found out what that pain was. I am sorry you had to go to the ER. I am telling you though, every little pain I get freaks me out like I think something is wrong. I am sure it is mostly healing pain but it really does give me the creeps when I get weird sensations. I have turned into a hypochondriac! Beversman-I am trying to think how many parties I have been too. I think it is 7 and all since surgery. Ugh-but it is not popularity but having big families with divorced parents. I don't have time for friend parties and had to decline the offers to go to family parties. haha. But I should be done until Easter! Thankfully. Okay-lots of talk about burping. I amnot burping at all. Not since the fist post op days when I was really gassy. But I do have more gas from the other, less pleasant end. Just loud but not particularly offensive (at least not to me-hehe). I sound like a trumpet. hahahahahaha sorry, TMI. I need to get my house picked up and my kids are driving me batty today so I will talk to you all later.

    Stomach Flu when banded

I caught the stomache flu 4 days after banding. It was not fun, but since I was on liquids only just alot of dry heaving (TMI). I don't think it was as violent as pre-banding ever was, so that was good. But i was VERY scared.
