  1. Ok, so it probably didn't. But I've had abnormal PAPs for the last 7 years. I get checked twice/year and it ranges from From atypical to high grade. I've had 4 LEEPS, 5 biopsies and a conization. I can't believe I even have a cervix left after all the bits and pieces that have been removed. Two years ago I finally said fuckit....unless it comes back high grade again or precancerous, I'm not having anymore procedures...obviously the aren't working. Well I just got my most resent PAP result and it was normal! My OB/Gyn emailed me herself she was so excited. I'm chalking it up to outstanding nutrition over the last 10 months since surgery. Very nice NSV!

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Sharing a NSV: I have worked for the same man for 22 years. He is a 82 year old fittness buff who is in great shape .....but doesn't eat real food at all. Always tells me I have to lose weight and go on a diet. He is very wealthy & crude but not a happy person at all. I did not and would never tell him about the lapband. So Friday he says to me "have you lost some weight....your face looks prettier". When I told him I did he said "if you lose 30 lbs I'll give you a bonus". I just grinned and bit my tongue. Hope I can do this.....CAT

Hey July Surgery People! It has been a while since we have had any updates in this thread. I can't wait to hear how you are all doing. 6. Congrats, ddgalarza! Isn't it funny how we crave restriction and when we get it we're so happy!:confused: Crystal525 - I'm right there with ya! I don't always make good choices either, but since my second fill recently, I make a lot fewer of them! I will encourage you to up your workouts to 3 - 4 times a week. I think if you do that, the results you will get (realizing that Non Scale Victories - NSV's are as important as losing pounds) will encourage you to keep going. I used to be a 4-day a week gym rat - when I worked in the same town that I live in. Now, with my hour-each-way commute, I wasn't able to get to the gym as often as I'd like, and I've had to discipline myself to work out. I now have a rowing machine in my house and have fallen in love with rowing. I think I have a borderline addictive personality - once I "made the decision" to row, I don't want to stop...it's something I now do 6 - 7 days a week, when prior to that, I let the machine sit for a couple of weeks before I even got on it. I was like that with swimming too, when I was a lifeguard - not a day went by that I was at the pool and didn't swim at least a mile (72 laps). I miss those days...of course, since I was still making bad food choices, it didn't keep me from gaining weight, but I'm committed to making better food choices to go along with my commitment to exercise. I've been off my feet before - I had an irregular heartbeat that actually caused me to pass out on the treadmill - and my doctor at the time recommended that I stop working out (it would 'stress' my heart, he said) and go on cardiac meds for the rest of my life. I refused - started walking again as soon as I got even a hint that it was okay, started slowly, and now I'm up to rowing 30 minutes a day (I cover about 4000 m in a workout now, I started at less than 1000). It's definately a process - and you just gotta keep putting one foot in front of the other until you reach your goal. Talk yourself into working out for just 15 - 20 minutes as many days in a row as you can...when that gets easier, add a few minutes a day until you are at 30 minutes, and then add to that when you can. I'm now doing a 20 minute rowing program with music before and after to get me to 30 minutes. Once I hit 40 minutes, I'm moving up to the next level rowing program, and then I'll add more music until I reach 60 minutes. That's probably where I'll stop - I get bored just looking at nothing but the walls when I row, but the alternative isn't pretty, so I do it. Hang in there - sounds like you are moving to the right mindset and it will work for you!

    Weight Watchers Online: Support Thread

For anyone who posted losses this week, great job!!!!! :-D I will ask the site Admin if Alex might consider making a Weight Watchers room, or how we might be able to create one when we are on there. I'm in CA, and 5PM my time is great if it's on a Tues. Weds. or Thurs. Let me know! Welcome!! I'm so glad you have decided to join WW. The band doesn't stop you from making poor food choices. WW is the map. The band is the compass. Workouts are the energies it takes to get to our treasure! Some of us just need a little bit more than others. Nothing wrong with that at all, and this in no way makes you a failure. It makes you more of a winner than ever because you are willing to do whatever it takes to get to your goal. Best wishes!! LOL! I haven't been tracking as well as I should either. Not good!!! I am still down, thank goodness. However tomorrow I'm doing 24 points no exceptions. Especially since I'm probably going to have BBQ on Monday. LOL!! Nuff said girl! That is such a great NSV!! (((hugs))) rayne, I have only one time gone into my activity points. I think it was only 1-2 at that. I usually gather up between 40-70 activity points per week too, so I seriously don't think I'm ever in danger. They are there for that reason, however I really do try to keep those in the bank. Good luck!!

If my two cents is worth anything, I would say definitely continue with the therapy. Then maybe try writing your non-scale victories (NSV) in a notebook. Maybe as you see the list of NSV's increase it will help you recognize the benefits of the surgery from the health and lifestyle aspect. " Keep the faith, for this too shall pass"
  9. Ok, so I set my goals, got back on track, finally broke my stall.....now what? Now....you keep doing what you've been doing, that's what! I need to remind myself that this is a change in my lifestyle - there's no end, there are stages (or levels, as Kramer would say). This is my 'stick to the plan & lose dat ass' stage. Once I get to goal, it's the 'don't mess this up' stage. But I don't ever get to go back to my old habits. Maybe I'll get to have some of the old foods I ate; a taste occasionally, but never at the amounts I used to consume. And is that really a bad thing? I'm starting to think it's not.... I decided to update my goals a bit: Lose 20 lbs - complete! Get under 200 lbs - complete! Lose 45 lbs - complete! Get to 190 Lose 50 lbs Get to 186 Get to 180 Get to 169 Get to 160 Get to 155 Get to 150 Get to 145 Get to 140 Get to 135 Get to 125 Get to 120 Not totally inspired, but at least it gives me something to work towards! Next task - work on some NSV goals to add into this list. Because as I lose more weight the losses are going to slow down. And I know I'll get discouraged and reach for something comforting. Like a jar of marshmallow fluff.

    Liberating NSV

Wow, I have something to share! Yesterday, I picked up my mom from the airport (she's in town for the weekend) and she wanted to go out for lunch. Err.. I haven't been out to eat since I started the pre-op diet. I was a nervous wreck. I knew I wasn't going to eat anything I shouldn't but my fear was that smelling and seeing all those foods I used to be addicted to would bring back the cravings. Being a people watcher (my all time favorite hobby), I knew I wasn't going to be able to avoid seeing people enjoying what I couldn't have. Eating out used to be my way of life. Well, we walked into Red Robin and there they were.. all these people feeding on huge burgers. I watched in amazement as they somehow unhinged their jaws to fit their gaping mouths around these monstrous globs of food… Their cheeks bulging as they smiled and chewed with mayonnaise covered lips. Every plate of food I saw delivered to the tables seemed heaping with enough to feed 3 people. What I expected to trigger longing and cravings actually was excellent therapy - for me. I ordered iced tea with lemon and a cup of chili - no cheese, no onions, and no crackers. Mom ordered a bowl of chili. The server looked at us like we were nuts.. “That’s –all- you want?” *laughs* When the food arrived it was served with a large round soup spoon, I requested a regular spoon. Mom and I thoroughly enjoyed our chili, and we sat in Red Robin for 3 1/2 hours drinking tea and enjoying a wonderful visit. As I walked out, I felt an enormous victory in my life and I remembered so many of you saying "Make your dining out time about the people you are with, not about the food." I smiled and walked out feeling so good, rather than being disgusted with myself and feeling so uncomfortably gorged. What a huge victory in my life!
  11. My discovery of the day was a major NSV. I worked out in the yard most of the afternoon in 96 degree and very humid weather. I don't think I even broke a sweat and there was no slowing me down. 2 years ago it would have killed me. That's how my day went and thanks for asking!

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

I guess I should post an update since I'm back from my trip and getting back into the swing of things. NSV- I had my wedding resized for a second time and it's now size 5 1/2. That's definitely smaller than it was when I got married. I think it was a 6. I know my ring size was at least an 8 before I had my surgery. So glad I have a warranty on the ring that gives me free resizing for life. I had a very nice visit with Jaime and StLouisGal. We met at a restaurant and had dinner and chatted. It's great to see others going through the same milestones and talk about our individual battles. Thanks, Ladies, for meeting up with me. You're both looking great! My weight is at a standstill. It doesn't look like I gained or lost much on my trip. It's good that I didn't gain. I behaved in a manner consistent with maintenance, I suppose. I've ordered a couple of books that I'm hoping will be here today. They are the Body for Life book and the Eating for Life cookbook. The recipes are what caught my attention. They are very similar to how I have been trying to eat. I think I will read through the books and see if I'm up to completing a 12 week challenge. Heaven knows I could use some toning and shaping. I hope everyone is having a good summer. I'm loving the evening thunderstorms and rainbows we've been seeing.

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Good morning! Hope everyone had a better weekend than I did! I was so sick with a stomach virus. L I feel ok now but darn-it! I took up all my fun time!! Now I’m back at work and as usual do not feel rested like I should. But, I have an NSV!! Even though I didn’t feel good I STILL did my workout! I usually use not feeling good as an excuse to skip out, but not this time. It might have only been 20 minutes and 30 minutes calisthenics but still, I did it!! Tap, I so know how you feel, but remember – you are so close to goal now! Maybe you need a day to meditate and get back into perspective. Don’t fall off now… you can slack off after you get to goal. Not to the point of gaining though either. How do you feel? How is your health? I mean, maybe your body IS done. I know I’m just now contradicting what I just said, but that could be a factor too. There’s a lot to consider when saying we’ve finished. I put my goal up to 160. That I know is doable for me. I’ve been 160 before and I liked myself back then. But, at least if I get there I can always choose if I want to do more. The things my nutritionist really pointed out is that I need to substitute more snacks for fruit. So we agreed at this point I’ll up my one fruit a day to two. She also said no more liquid supplements, like protein drinks. She said a band patient really has no need for protein drinks and just tacks on calories needlessly. Also that if I’m not able to get my protein in through solids then I was too tight. I already knew that though! Lol She made a food suggestion. There are some food wraps in the deli section. They are rather good size and they are only 100 calories (2 points) and they have different flavors too. One last good thing she wanted me to do is make a list of 10 different types of breakfasts that fit nutritiously within 6-7 points. She thinks I’m being too repetitious with my eating and might help with my over snacking in the evenings. Okay, well I’ll check back in soon! Have a great day all!! How’s everyone else?
  14. Morning all. SLG - OMG and I'm so glad to hear you at least got some positive things going now. At least you don't have to fight the insurance on top of everything. I have every appendage crossed, hoping it will correct itself for you. I've been doing pretty well. I've tracked my foods for 4 days now. Yay! I think it's really helping out too. I can't do the catatonic eating now. I also have a huge NSV for me. I managed to go into Fry's grocery store now twice and didn't buy my Peanut Butter cookie. Woo hoo! I found some willpower again. Also, where the heck is Crystal? HAven't seen a posting from her in ages. Anyone hear from her? Hope she's doing well.

Angela, we should meet up on the 4th. I will bring the clothes with me. Robyn, whaddya think? Diane, Congrats on the wedding dress! That is a great NSV! :clap2: Robyn, I should probably not be so dramatic. I know they triple book for sure. But you get the point. :nervous Hey, btw, I want to go on vacation with you. Do you want to adopt me and take me along for all the fun?!? :biggrin1: If you haven't lost weight Robyn, you may be losing fat and gaining muscle. With all the sit ups and working out you are doing... it is possible you are shrinking in size because of the lean muscles you are building. That can definitely make a difference on your body. I call mine (saggy skin)... squishy or flubber. It is because its so loose and soft and saggy. Kinda sad, but hopefully with time it will improve. At least that is my secret fantasy. I have heard Dr. Hoehn say that once it is stretched, it won't go back. If it doesn't, maybe I will find a way somehow to deal with it in the future. On the back pain issue, YES dear! My back acts up quite a bit, but I have had issues for quite a while. I think its a combination of my tummy and extra chestage! Sea, What is your name? Do you come to support group?

    Daily News!

Good Morning Junies.. Back to work and the daily grind. We had a great weekend camping! I really needed some down time. I am burnt but relaxed! I hope everyone had a great weekend! I wanted to share a NSV.. I got whistled at 2 times and I got a "hot damn" from a homeless man on friday. I was pretty excited! LOL.. it's the little things in life!

    Daily News!

good morning junies.. Strike.. woo hoo on your nsv. You rock sister friend! Long.. good luck with your knee today! Congrats on getting out of your plateau! I go and weigh in on Friday and I am hoping all this hard work at the gym is going to pay off! The award dinner went great and we met alot of really nice people. We didnt' get home until 10 ugh and I am usually in bed by 9! My boss asked if I would if he needed me to train a girl to take my place since I won't go part time. I told him I would (i know Im a sucker) but told him to remember the last 4 girls we had do this job in the past 5 years and how messed up it was! I started in inside sales and there was 12 people working here. In 5 years we are down to 5 people and I do the job of inside sales, purchasing, a/r, a/p, office manager and a smidge of outside sales. He has no idea how this office is run or even how to do any of it! Sure I will train a girl for a week or two and see what happens! LOL.. I am sure I will be back working in no time. I have just put all this stress in God's hands. I just gave it up to him and realized he has only ever opened doors for me not closed them. Every time something bad has happened I have been soo devastated only to have something better happen because of it. So I am holding on for the ride! Have a great day Junies!

OH MY GOSH MARIE, that's the biggest NSV ever! I have never weighed less than any man in my life... EVER. I just got my new drivers license (I'm laughing) and I put 190 for the weight. That's hysterical - I'd be bone thin at 190. So hubby says, "so honey, do you really weigh less than me?" Uh, NO! CONGRADS! Penni, I agree that you'd have gained way more pre-band. One pound isn't even fat, and you know it. It's just some water fluctuation. You can't gain a pound unless you consumed more calories than you should have, and we both know you made some bad choices, but heck, you eat tiny food now. You didn't gain a pound, seriously. By the way, I went to a new doctor, and his scale shows me a full 10 pounds lighter. I gotta steal that scale!
  19. I thought I'd put up this post to see what co-morbidities people have been relieved of since their surgery. As for me, I had compartmental syndrome (issue where my fascia on my calves would squish my muscle if I ran (b/c muscle would want to expand, but there wasn't enough room) such that my nerves would get pinched and my circulation would get cut off. Now that I'm 50+ pounds down, I don't have any problem with this at all. In fact, tonight, I ran 3 miles on the treadmill without stopping or slowing to a walk, and all was just fine! What a major NSV!! I had been worried that if someone was ever chasing me that I wouldn't be able to run to safety! But now, that problem has completely disappeared! Thank you, Band!! Catherine

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

I'm here! I'm doing really well. I'm enjoying this fall weather and keeping crazy busy. I made a really awesome cake this week. I'll attach a picture of it. Ckktwallace, the situation you are in would really scare me. Do you have a specific plan for your eating and fitness in order to help you make good choices? Won't that be amazing when you are able to keep at your goal weight by your efforts? You can do it! Tap, Awesome NSV with the size 8 pants! Woo hoo! STLGal, that would drive me crazy to have my port at my beltline. Maybe you can just wear high-waisted pants? Anyway, I can imagine you just being grateful for your band at all at this point. Since starting the Body for Life stuff at the beginning of September I'm down 7-9 pounds. That is the most weight I have lost in a very long time. I need to be more careful on the eating part of the program. I wast stricter at first which is when most of that weight came off. Hope you have a great weekend.

    June surgeries!

We're packing to move so the first thing I did was pack that stupid scale. I'm just gonna do what I'm supposed too, work on protein/fluid daily, and go by NSVs until I'm better healed. That darn scale was seriously bumming my joy.

    A thread for Single Bandsters

That is definately an NSV :-) Congrats to you Denise.
  23. You're gaining muscle and losing fat! Muscle weighs more than fat. Have you taken your measurements? It's a great NSV.
  24. From Bridesmaids dress NSV to Band Slippage and repair surgery all in the blink of an eye. Well folks the results are in and my band has slipped which I knew when I was having heartburn, but my surgeon thought that an unfill would allow it to repair iteself. Well no such luck, just left her office and the band is still out of place and the only way to fix it is with SURGERY. So here we go again. She gave me the option to take it out, if I was happy with my weight loss so far. I was like are you fricken kidding me?!?!? I'm happy with the weight I've lost but I am far from done. ABSOLUTLEY NO REMOVAL! REPAIR REPAIR REPAIR! So now comes the waiting game of ins approval and availability on her schedule. If I had it my way I'd be in surgury tommmorw. I'm like lets get this show on the road and get this thing fixed and get the scale moving. Wish me luck. In the mean time I will try to keep on making beter food choice and hitting the gym like a mad woman!
  25. Good morning and Happy New Year to all Notorious Novembers! Scheduled for my first fill tomorrow morning - I'll check in and let y'all know how it goes. I am at a 'Center of Excellence' bariatric office (affilated with Yale University) so I'm hoping for an easy appointment with no (or very little) pain. The holidays weren't great - not bad, but not great. I did make it to the gym 6 times during my 'off' period. My office shut down from Dec 23 through Jan 5. I also did some snow shoveling and other stuff to try and keep busy. Had a NSV (non scale victory) on Jan 2nd. Went dancing with my hubby (swing band we love) and at the end of the night, even after dancing my shoes off - no knee pain! This despite the fact that I was wearing high heels and we danced a LOT. Looking forward to a fill, though - I feel like I've gained a few pounds since before the holiday and I definately don't want to go back to where I was pre-surgery!
