    WHY?

And you will definitely see more revisions from Sleeve to RNY because what would RNY revise to? Can they revise to DS? Many insurances don’t get cover DS and there are still a lot of surgeons who don’t do it yet. Nowhere to revise to from RNY

    WHY?

Exactly my point. That seems pretty low to me! Certainly not high enough to suggest the procedure might be self sabotage/not choosing the best procedure. It was a question based on a few factors: some people honestly admitting to choosing VSG vs. RNY to specifically avoid dumping, the number of posts where people seems willing to break protocol earlier out seems to be mostly VSG patients, higher regain and revisions for non malfunction/medical reasons appears to be mostly from the VSG pool. BUT I HAVE NO PROBLEM BEING WRONG ABOUT THIS... its all observational/anecdotal.

    That was quick

Had band revision to sleeve yesterday morning and 7:30. Went home today at 2:30. Would have been noon if the internist were in the building. Surprisingly, I've been starving all day. Anyone else experience this? -EQ

    Sleeve to Bypass

Hello SHNGSTAR, well I haven't had my surgery yet and I'm due to have it September 7th, I was originally going to be a sleeve but, after my doctor got my labs and endoscopy back he feel its best if I'm a gastric bypass now due to my history with acid reflux he said he don't think it would be good to have the sleeve because it only make the acid reflux worse and its inevitable that I would be coming back to convert due to the reflux will definitely get worse and I really appreciate the fact that he's honest and not all about the money meaning he could very well have given me the sleeve knowing darn well I'd have to come back to be revised and honestly I just don't want to have to get a revision I'd rather go with what is best for me and the beginning I just want to start living my life and being the great me and not in and out of the hospital. I originally was not afraid at all as I've been under anesthesia in my life a few times but I too am having the thoughts of issues and my husband is a seasoned gastric bypass patient and he's attempting to assure me I will be fine he thinks because I'm starting from a lower weight and he don't think it will be that hard due to my weight he said his was harder because he was morbidly obese before we met and married, an although I appreciate him so much I still can't help but worry I don't know why it hit me all of a sudden before finding out I was going to be a bypass patient I was cool calm and collected but something has came over me I know I will pray over myself before going into surgery but still I have my husband and my grandkids that reside with me and we care for and I keep thinking I'm in reasonably good health other then my weight that I'm unhappy with and I don't want any issues from this. I know I have to shake it off because the 7th will be here in no time and I will just still the nerves came over me. By the way I'm 205lbs if your wondering and my height is listed under my name.
  5. If you have acid reflux or similar issues then i was told not to do sleeve. I am having bypass next week. I chose it because Ive seen alot of revision stories (not saying sleeve isnt good or doesnt work because there are many success stories as well) but for me personally, I wanna make sure I only have to go through it once. I figure ill go all in. I realize i am at higher risk for vitamin deficiencies, but i will happily replace my blood pressure meds etc. with vitamins if it means being a healthier weight!
  6. My LapBand was nothing but problems from the very beginning - Everything I was supposed to eat got stuck and everything I should have stayed away from went down just fine. The fill in my band was unpredictable. Some days water would gurgle, others I could mindlessly eat a huge chunk of chicken or pasta and slip on through no problem. It would change depending on the time of month and there was no "sweet spot fill" everyone talks about. To make matters worse, if you ever get the flu or food poisoning it is an EMERGENT issue. (No one ever told me this was a "thing.") If your doctor is only a few minutes away and available after hours, no biggie. (Until you have to move years later or he does.) Mine was a 3 hour drive away. Imagine me heaving for hours upon hours in the backseat of the car after eating bad sashimi - My stomach was in obscene amounts of pain..I could physically feel it trying to come up, only to get stuck under the band. My ordeal started at 4am and didn't make it to the doctor until almost 12hrs later - I'm surprised that much wretching didn't cause a slip. This whole situation scared me so much, it wasn't until over a year later I went back to re-fill. There are a lot more issues people talk about above I don't have to mention again here and I know it works for some people - But it never did for me. I'm being revised to a sleeve next month and I couldn't be more excited. I want this thing OUT before it causes more damage. My doctor already mentioned he more often than not sees damage from these bands when being removed...It scars the esophagus over time, regardless of complications. My advice, do what's right for you...It is your choice and your body! I, on the other hand, would still never recommend this surgery to anyone!
  7. I have been open and honest with anyone whom has asked me about my weight loss. EVERYTHING has been positive. Not sure if it’s because I work in healthcare but I have gotten nothing but support and love. People are generally curious and it hasn’t left my body open to discussion. If it has, it’s been behind my back and never to my face but if people have a question, they ask and it has never been odd or unwelcomed. I feel the biggest reason people “hide” their weight loss is for fear of failure and unwanted expectations. You tell people you had a life altering surgery and they expect you to lose weight; & if it isn’t successful for you, then you may fear the daunting questions of “what happens?” That’s my opinion. i his my VSG surgery but I did not hide my rny. Although I didn’t tell anyone it was a revision because I truly lost no weight in the end from my VSG. But you have to do what you feel is right for you.
  8. I am 2 days out of Sleeve to RNY revision. Is the following normal? - my intestines are super loud. When I drink I feel it in my lower abdomen l?! - Warning: this May be too graphic, but I’ve had diarrhea through out the day. Went 5 times :/ not much but still watery. Is this normal ? 3. I was doing do so well with gas, walking a bunch etc with minimal pain, but this evening of day 2, all of a sudden I have a ton of chest gas. So much that I can’t sleep reclining and I can’t use my cpap as it’s blowing air which I feel is adding to the pressure...

    Ulcers

Hi All. Has anyone had to have a revision due to ulcers? I’ve had 3 GI Bleeds caused by bleeding ulcers. Can’t eat, drink, always dizzy. Seeing surgeon this week :(
  10. Oh wow, Saddy... that is awful. You have my absolute sympathies - I know what you're going through. I had a stomach leak with my sleeve back in September of 2017 and was in hospital for 3 months. Had 6 surgeries, had the picc line in, etc, etc. No food or water passed my lips for 3 months. The TPN they give you is full of nutrients and has calories in it - I too didn't lose weight in hospital, in fact I gained. It was galling having to weigh in and see the number go UP. The only comfort is that you will have ALL your nutrition and be pretty healthy in that respect! But, the whole this is nightmare I know. Did they say why you had a leak? I know mine was just 'bad luck'. The reason I came on to this section of the board is because I was thinking of getting a sleeve to bypass revision. I might have to rethink that one - I don't know if I can go through that again. I've lost 80 lbs but have stalled, so right now I'm trying some weight loss meds. We'll have to see... I am so sorry for what you are going through. If there's anything I can do, let me know. Do you have a good support network where you are? By the way, are you in the UK or from the UK? Just asking because you sound like you are and I'm British (living in the USA since 2003).
  11. I didn't need anyone after my revision surgery... like legit, no help needed at all.
  12. Not sure if I'm on track or above average. Going off my starting weight for my revision of 310, and using https://www.obesitycoverage.com/weight-loss-surgeries/gastric-bypass/how-much-can-i-expect-to-lose I see that I should expect to hit 222 with ease within 18 months... seeing as I'm at 230ish right now, not quite 6 months out of surgery... I have a 20% chance to reach 182 within 18 months... so we'll see how it goes I guess. I'm just shooting for 200 by Nov 13-15th. (so I can be the same weight I was at 20 when I got married, when I turn 40)

    WHY?

Interesting. seems reverse Trendelenburg position appears to be just a head elevation 15-30 degrees higher than the feet. Now i'm curious what positions I was put into during the 6+ hours I was under for my revision!
  14. Matt Z

    WHY?

This study had a 2.5% failure rate requiring revision https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5406732/
  15. I was diagnosed with Grade 4 Esophagitis when I was scoped to check my band for erosion prior to my revision. I was on the Pantropazole for a while too, still on 1 a day until I get scoped again in a month. Thankfully I had the bypass, so acid reflux issues that caused it have been mitigated.
  16. 1. It is, for some anyway. For both surgeries. For me, I don't have any problems with any sweeteners (or sugar really for that matter) Only real dumping I've had was from Tomato Soup made with fat free milk, still not sure what caused that, but, I haven't tried again (yet). Only way to find out if you will be effected, is to try out what you think you might be effected by. I found out that I can eat cake, cheesecake, chocolate, etc without any issues (which sucks actually because I wanted that negative response) 2. Loose skin is most certainly a thing. My highest weight was 370, check my profile for photos, I'm not overly concerned about loose skin at the moment, Down the line I'll more than likely get it removed, but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. 3. My first holiday after the Band was Thanksgiving... followed quickly by Christmas and New Years. I just stuck to my diet, didn't really have any issues. I haven't had a major "food" holiday since being revised to Bypass, but I've had cookouts, parties, etc. I just eat what I can, I don't worry what anyone else thinks or says. Burgers turned into salads, not eating bread, only eating a few bites of something. No one seems to care really. ESP if you've told your family / friends already.

    August bypassers/sleevers

My husband had his sleeve done today!! And I’ll be having my revision on the 30th
  18. Hi The Preacher, I am a woman of faith and I would love it if you prayed for me. I’m having a revision from the lap band to the gastric bypass on September 18. Please pray that it all goes well!!! Thank you!!
  19. 1. Most doctors don’t even offer the lapband any longer due to all the problems. All the people who I know who had lapbands either had revisions or are waiting for revisions. 2. No hair loss yet at 3.5 months post op. 3. Too much rich sweets or dessert. A small piece is fine. 4. After the first week. 5. MyFitnessPal
  20. @ ellie123 just had revision surgery yesterday, after being told her surgeon in Texas he normally, would keep her 2-3 days, she got dismissed today, feeling great , on her way home. I have my,own RnY in 13 days, and her great, results greatly encourage me. This will rid my GERD monster of his sway, over my life, my last reservation cobwebs just got brushed away. Lets go for it, Summer Essence, good for ME,good for YOU. 😛🍀😛

Originally Gastric Sleeve vs Gastric Bypass

Yes I’m so thankful because I see so many people get the sleeve only to have a revision to bypass because the acid reflux is so bad and I’d rather not have to repay for that if the doctor know this will only get worse if your already acidic prone.
  22. I suggest you look into getting it done in Tijuana Mexico, where I had it done. My insur didn’t cover it, so I had to scrape up the $6K to do it. But it would have been around $4,500 but I had a lap band to sleeve revision which raised the price an extra $1,500. People come from all over the world to Tijuana for medical tourism. Google and YouTube it. There’s a LOT of info about these providers. Maybe at these prices you can both afford to do it. Good luck!

    8 days post op

I’m two weeks out after plication revision to bypass. I feel great! I’m walking 3-4 miles a day and can eat anything. Obviously keeping it protein first and drinking plenty of water. No dumping, lots of energy! surgery date: 8/10 Heaviest weight: 298 surgery weight: 271 Cw: 258
  24. Nice to see other honest surgeons out there! Mine refused to do band to sleeve revisions and her reasonings were sound. So, band to bypass it was. I was grateful that she was so honest about why she wouldn't do the procedure.

    WHY?

Do you really think people have VSG so that they won’t dump so that they can cheat? Why would they even have WLS. I honestly don’t think that is anyone’s motivation. What revision statistics are you looking at? I hope you’re not basing it on board postings because that is self selection and not population based. And I say again, we can’t predict yet for whom which surgery will work. For many the sleeve creates a new set point and the reduction in grehlin eliminates the desire to binge—long term. I don’t understand the people on this thread who say the sleeve is temporary or short term.
