Can I take Xenical before surgery?

I just went to https://www.myalli.com/alli-faq/ and this is what they say about it Can you take the alli® product if you have had bariatric surgery such as gastric bypass or gastric banding? If you have had bariatric surgery, you should talk with your doctor before taking alli®capsules. Some patients experience problems absorbing food after such a procedure. If this is the case, alli® may not be right for you. However, everyone handles these procedures differently, so it is best to check with your doctor first.

    The staples...

yes. Surgeons leave staples in with a lot of types of surgeries - not just bariatric. They're made of titanium and won't hurt you. I have some from my plastic surgery, too (in my abdomen)

    January 2020 Surgery Date

Please share your details of the Kaiser Bariatric Surgery process at that location, if you don't mind. You can message me or post here. I'm curious and would like an idea of what to expect.
  5. You are new and have only posted several times about being hosed. If you are real, fill out your profile. What type of surgery and when? Avoid any site that sells bariatric processed crap food. I would suggest eating real whole foods. Hope you get your money back.

    Meal Ideas

I was using Bariatric Pal food packets to manage this until they hosed me on return of inedible items. Being charged 30% for shipping/handling makes me begin to look elsewhere.

    candy barrrrsss *super trooper voice*

I tried a Bariatric Pal CarbRite brownie for this but it was inedible. Then they hosed me on return of items. Being charged 30% for shipping/handling makes me begin to look elsewhere. Be careful of their taste test guarantee!!!

  11. Hi all! I’m just starting the process and have a question about pre-op labs. At my nutrition appt this morning, the Rex Bariatric said it’d take a few weeks to send the orders for me to get them done. I have my annual physical with my PCP this week. Rex said they’d accept labs from our PCP. I have a call in to get that list from Rex, but I’m not sure if they’ll call back in time for my appt. From some basic web research I figured they’d want the following: A complete blood count Urinalysis Chemistry panel that includes: -Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP) – kidneys and respiratory system as well as electrolyte and acid/base balance and level of blood glucose -Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) – liver and important blood proteins -Electrolyte Panel -Lipid Panel -Liver Panel (also called Hepatic Function Panel) -Renal Panel (also called Kidney Function Panel) -Thyroid Function Panel Does that sound comprehensive? I’d appreciate your feedback. Thanks! Tonya
  12. Yay! That's awesome! Did you take the poll, please? It's one and the same private club. We will have weekly online support meetings face to face via Zoom and will have a private group only accessible by BAC (Bariatric Accountability Club) members on FB. We will also do FB Live meetings/interviews with leaders in the bariatric world-docs, psychs, RDs, fitness people. Etc. And we will also have a book club. I think that will meet every couple of weeks? Also live face to face via Zoom. We'll provide a basic sample meal plan that people are welcome to use, modify, make their own and we will also provide access to our MFP food diary so you can go visit it and see other examples of daily eating. There will also be free recipes and some video recipes. There will also be a cooking lesson at least every couple of weeks. And of course you can go hang out in the group and get lots of peer support as well. I'm putting everything together now and hope to have it ready by Jan.1. I'm still trying to figure out the monthly subscription rate--trying to keep it as low as possible and still cover present and future costs. It is NOT intended to take away from BP. It's intended as an ADDITION to our Bariatric Pal home. For those needing more in depth support. We're also going to try to figure out how to set up appointments 1 on 1 with either an accountability partner, or with psychologists and also RDs. But that is Stage 2 down the road.

    The Maintenance Thread

Okay so awesome that you’ve identified the culprit, but I’m sad to know that’s why. I also have these syrups (I got the peppermint to add to my bariatric hot chocolate and the English toffee to add to coffee). I’ll have to start using these really sparingly, but it’s good info to have. I am pleased with myself, but I’m also aware that I don’t want to start patting myself too hard on the back cause then I might start to take it all for granted and that’s the top of a slippery slope. Still trying to keep on top of all the head stuff. I started a wonderful soup in the quick pot. Defrosted some frozen turkey, then added in carrots, celery, onion, garlic, collard greens and okra. The smell of this stuff cooking is driving me half crazy so it’s time to have some meat and cheese ASAP. I’m usually fine until I smell food. Then it doesn’t matter how full/hungry I am. Wish my brain wasn’t so reactive to the smell.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Yes I’m designated driver too. I usually order from app menu or just side dish if it has protein. Many times everyone pays for me to offset gas- don’t mean bodily gas as that is discussed a lot from Bariatric family!
  15. Try Dr Bass at Gulf Coast Bariatrics in Naples Florida - He is flexible and understands some people want it for health reasons. If you Pm me will give you my name to mention - Me and my brother had it done by him - Very good and very understandable. If you do use him let me know will tell you where to stay and such
  16. Thank you, catwoman! I appreciate your reply. I had thought to stop the extra B12 completely, but your advice is the same as bariatric nurse... cut back, but don't eliminate the extra B12. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. Another thought: I just got Kristen Lloyd’s bariatric mindset success book and the 6 month journal. I’m definitely going to start those by Jan 1st if anyone wants to join me

I think this might be a fun topic

I do a premier shake every morning. I don't do breakfast other than the weekends or for dinner lol. For lunch I need to do better but I have some packaged "add water and microwave" meals from bariatric pal. Sometimes I have leftovers from dinner. Doing a lot of diced pre-cooked chicken, burgers, etc. Stuff that's easy to heat and eat at work. For dinner I have some great meatballs from trader joes, fish nuggets from trader joes, sometimes another shake if I worked out hard and want to hit 100 grams of protein that day. Tonight is leftover spicy pork from my ramen on Sunday and I'll mix it with a serving of Unjury Chili. Should be really good!

    1 year post op

It may be worth a shot to see one that specializes in bariatric patients. Maybe ask your surgeon to give you a list of good ones? Unless your surgeon is like mine and has one on staff?
  20. What helped me with the sweet craving is my Calcium Citrate chews from Bariatric advantage Im caramel and peanut butter chocolate. Feels like I’m cheering when I have them.
  21. Hello, I have a normal BMI (23.4) and just had the band taken out and a sleeve done four days ago. I was at my target weight and maintained that for over 9 years but started having trouble with my band ( lots of vomiting) so then the Dr. took out all the fluid in my band and I gained weight but stayed within a normal BMI. Since you haven't had any issues with the band, I am not sure if someone would do the surgery but I do think that you should have a consult with a bariatric surgeon and just explain everything. They can write it up in such a way that it would/could be approved by your health insurance. Hope you can get it all figured out.
  22. YALL!!!! OK, I am hoping someone can give me some advice. I was banded in 2009, lost 100 pounds, was at my goal weight for about 9 years. Then around Christmas of last year, I started having trouble keeping ANYTHING down. My surgeon said the band was properly placed and had not slipped. He removed all of the Fluid from my band and I gained 40 pounds in a matter of months. My insurance finally approved a revision and I had that done 4 days ago. I had no real pain, just some gas pain in my shoulder and neck. They laid out these tiny little cups and told me to "sip sip sip every 15 minutes". It didn't take long before I had both small bottles of Water drank. I was released the next day and was able to drink 2 cups of beef broth, I ate an entire cup of sugar free jello---last night I ate an entire can of thinned down cream of chicken Soup in the amount of time it would take someone who had not had bariatric surgery. I have not had my post-op follow up yet but my mom had the VSG about 18 months ago and she can only eat about a cup of food. She told me it took her an entire day to drink 1/2 of a Protein Shake. My goal weight is 145 and I am currently 169. (I am within a normal BMI and have no co-morbidity factors but the revision was approved because of all of the issues I was having with the band.) My fear is that surgeon might have been super conservative and made my sleeve/pouch larger than it should be because I don't have a ton of weight to lose. I am just hoping that someone reading this had a similar experience but felt restricted once solid foods were reintroduced. I feel like this surgery might have been a waste of time. Is there anyone out there that was successful after not having drinking limitations immediately following surgery?

    My revision story

Hello there. So I had a LapBand to VSG revision on Thursday, December 5. I had no problems except some gas pain in my shoulder and I was very sore. My concern is that I have had NO issues drinking. Like none. When I woke up, I was dying of thirst and they had the little cups lined up and two of the small bottles of water on the table. On the marker board, it said "sip sip sip every 15 minutes". I sipped slowly; no issue. Then again, no issue. Within a couple of hours, I had both bottles of water gone. I was discharged around lunch time the next day. I drank 2 cups of beef broth in about an hour, but that's because I was just sipping on it like coffee as I watched tv. I have also drank multiple 12 ounce protein shakes, pudding cups, jello cups etc. My mom had VSG about 18 months ago and said that it would take her an entire day to drink one protein shake. I was thinking that maybe they took the LapBand out but something happened and they didn't do the sleeve. I called the Dr. office this morning and the nurse verified that I DID have the band removed and the sleeve procedure. I told her that I have NO restrictions when it comes to drinking. Oh, I also ate an entire can of cream of chicken soup, thinned down with milk, in about the amount of time it would take someone who had not had bariatric surgery. I feel like something isn't right. Anyways, the nurse said "well, it is probably because you had the band for so long (10 years) and you have been restricted for so long that you don't know how your actual anatomy is supposed to behave." That seemed like a super weird response to me. I know I am rambling on BUT my concern is that maybe my surgeon didn't make the sleeve as small as they are typically made. I am afraid that maybe he was too conservative with the sleeve and that I won't get the benefits of the revision. I am just wanting SOMEONE to tell me that they had a similar experience but that they have lost weight and that once they started eating solid food, they could feel the restriction. Like I said, my mom had it done about a year and a half ago and she can only eat a cup of food in one sitting. I am so afraid this surgery was a waste of time.

    Tracking food

Baritastic - here's why. It logs food and water, allows you to track macros easily (so you can keep track of carbs and protein), it logs weight and measurements and I like the way it looks and feels vs MFP. It's specifically designed for bariatric patients.

Foods you can no longer tolerate

During a group session with my bariatric surgeon someone mentioned that he was exploring new things that he could eat after surgery. The nutritionist asked him why was he exploring new things to eat when he should be learning what foods to stay away from. She said you got this surgery to get a new way of life as it pertains to your eating why are you looking to test your new stomach with foods that have harmed you in the past. She said get in your proteins, water and vitamins and you'll not only lose the weight, you'll be more healthier and you'll have a better chance of maintaining the weight loss. People who experiment and try to work around their surgery have a much greater chance of weight regain. This is not what you wanted when you got the surgery. I tend to agree with her on many points such as getting your proteins first, hydrating (you can't go wrong drinking water) and taking vitamin supplements. At 4 weeks out I was on pureed food going into soft foods. I stuck to the menu I was given since it was the start off point for my future eating. I was afraid of exploring foods because I knew that I would go back to my old bad eating habits very fast. I got the needed reset in my food consumption and with the weight loss and better health I see the benefits of not exploring foods as the nutritionist puts it. Like 2Bsmaller said, I have no plans to try these foods.
