You see @Fatboyslim1 this response was exactly what I am trying to avoid. I am not buying a lifetime supply, I am asking a real question, one that I am hoping to get some solid guidance on. Of course I am going to try it, but I am seeking guidance and depth from people who have gone vegan or professionals in the bariatric space.

Update on my goal weight and current weight. Saw my bariatric team this week and I am not underweight! They told me to tell psychiatrist not to worry. 8 pounds from their goal for me, and more like 15 pounds from my goal. Which they did not disagree with. I was 148 on doctor's scale, fully clothed. Picking a goal weight...Psychiatrist worried

Yes, transfer addiction to alcohol is very real and a real problem post bariatric surgery. As said, you absorb it much faster (alcohol absorbs in the small intestine and for post-op people we have very little or no stomach left so guess where all that alcohol goes first - yup, the small intestine!). All that said, I plan to drink some at 6 months. I'll be in Hawaii for my 10th anniversary. I'm talking 1 drink a day, maximum. And that's only if I'm well on my way to my goal weight at that time and I will absolutely log those calories!

I’m going to just put this right here....my doc told me a minimum a year. Doc said we now absorb alcohol at such an intense rate that we will be drunk way before we realize it. Doc also informed me bariatric patients are the new AA members. So for anyone that ever findS them selves in that predicament, thank God there is help.

Maybe just go back to soft, bland foods until you can talk to your bariatric team. Could you possibly just have a stomach bug? If you go back to liquids, I don't know why you wouldn't be able to take your vitamins. I was taking vitamins from Day 1.

Food Before and After Photos

I would think for the a regular recipe, yes. But I'm thinking you are asking for Bariatric-specific recipes? In that case it if was SPECIFICALLY for those not far out maybe 2 would be better....cuz it takes them forever to eat, LOL. -

I'm curious to know what everyone has done to prepare for after the surgery. I think I'm a bit of an over-planner & want to get everyone else's ideas too. So far I have the following: All of my necessary Vitamins A set of Bariatric Utensils (from hubby for Xmas) A set of Appetizer forks & spoons for smaller bite sizes (Adorable!) Protein powders (Inspire- Whey protein, Variety flavors) & PB2 Light Muscle Milk and Premium Protein ready drinks Large Water Bottles (not new, but hold 24 oz) Broths Here is my wish list of other things: A fine mesh strainer nonfat milk dry powder (to add to some of my drinks for additional protein) cute 4 oz glasses, (plastic or glass) to help get some liquid meals down & 1 oz cups (like medicine ones) to measure intake. What have you done to prepare for your new life???

Need Alternative Bariatric Options
Thaelia replied to Thaelia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the info. I’ll ask about my Bariatric doctor about Colorguard and whether he’ll accept those results. I doubt the digestive health group (I met with today performing the colonoscopy) would as they seemed hell bent on their anal probe. For the first half of my question, would it be best to search the message boards for doctors other have used in Mexico or in the Raleigh/Durham/chapel hill area? -

Need Alternative Bariatric Options
Thaelia replied to Thaelia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Rex is the Bariatric center I paired with the go through the process. They would help me to meet insurance requirements, etc. I’m considering overseas because they’re dragging this process out. My pcp ordered the colonoscopy. Because a few of my iron results were in lower end of the Normal range. Yes I’m (still) menstruating. Heavily. Always have for the last 30 years. I just don’t understand how a colonoscopy is step 2. Let me try pills for six weeks Especially since that’s how long it’s going to take me to get exam anyways. Eat more meat. Let me trying taking birth control back to back (ie no placebos). . I’m considering overseas because my out of pocket max would a little less than what surgery would cost with my insurance. I the colonoscopy would add $1300 to this and it’s a waste of money. -

Who is Rex Bariatric in Raleigh and if you're going overseas for the surgery why do you need them? If your iron is low you have to find out why before surgery. Cuz these surgeries can be tough on iron status. So you need to be stable. If you of menstruating age that would or could explain it, but if not, then one of the most usual places for iron to escape is in the GI tract. Any doc can order a colonoscopy. How bout your PCP? -
I need advice please. I’m going through the process with Rex Bariatric in Raleigh. I’m being railroaded into getting a colonoscopy I don’t need by a practice that’s charging too much for it (hundreds of dollars more than other providers within my network). I had low iron results and somehow the next damn step is a colonoscopy? I asked if I could get this done someone place else and they said no. I’m going through this alone and don’t have anyone to fight for/with me. I want to explore getting the bypass done overseas. This colonoscopy is going to delay things by several weeks and, even if it comes back negative, they told me they’re going to run a other test. This sounds like a cash cow situation because I have really good health I sure be. 1) does anyone living in Raleigh/dirham/chapel hill have a referral for a Bariatric center other than Rex? 2) Does anyone have great referral for someone in Mexico who can do this surgery by mid-late February? Please be kind. Im 41, black, tired of life and the hope for this surgery is all I have left. I’m spending Christmas alone and I’m determined for this not to be the case next year. I’m going to drop the weight ASAP, get a new job (because people can look past my fat and see my skills/credentials) and I’ll find someone to love (or at least tolerate me) me. Thank you.

Surgery Scheduled

First off congratulations and welcome to Bariatric Pal. This site has been a source of support and knowledge for many of us on the same journey. There's a January 2020 Surgery thread for those of us who are going to have the procedure next month. My surgery date is 01/31/20, I'm so darn nervous and happy to have this site of wise people. -
You may be better placed to follow the more general post op guidelines...liquids, purees, soft foods then standard foods, with a focus on meeting some protein minimums (typically about 60gms of protein per day). This may help with the transition from liquids to standard foods. If you were not give any guidelines from your surgeon or dietician, if you google 'pureed food bariatic surgery' you will find lots of suggestions, here is one I found https://www.upmc.com/services/bariatrics/surgery-process/post-surgery/diet/pureed, foods lists as well as timeframes will likely vary from clinic to clinic. Your surgeon or dietician may also have some suggestions for you.

I know what you are going through. I am 8 years out. My high since surgery and regain was up to 189 in 2016. I lost roughly 20 pounds just making better choices in 2 years. In June this year was at 168. That’s when I said enough was enough. I still had the tool to help me be successful. I went back to basics. Today I am down to 130. That’s 38 pounds in 6.5 months. I stopped snacking, and that’s hard with an overweight hubby and an 11 year old. I started protein shakes again, and only drinking water. I stopped all sugar and artificial sugars. I also stopped any added carbs to my food. My biggest help was logging all of my food. I’m not going to say it’s been easy. It sure as heck wasn’t. I chose surgery in the first place to be healthy and around longer for my family. Then the hell I was put through with 8 months in the hospital with many complications and more surgeries because of it. I finally snapped out of my PTSD and depression from it all. Try going back to basics. Log all of your protein, watch carbs and sugar intakes. I am now 3 pounds lower than my lowest after surgery weight. IF isn’t for everyone, but it worked wonders for me. I came back to this site, got the needed support I needed. I made sure with all the crap my family eats that I had better options in the house. I started taking a bariatric multi vitamin again. I also tracked down my surgeon who had left the Army after we had moved on as well. He is the only one who truly knows what my post multiple surgery body is like. He has been a big help to get my digestion back that no other doctors and specialists could help me with. I took back my health, that’s why we all chose this path anyways. Good luck in this new journey. Know that we are all here for you. You’ve got this.

February 2019 weight loss buds
Sheribear68 replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yup. I think the reason I gained weight is that I eat bari-keto about 95% of the time so when I do have alcohol and other carbs, it causes a ton of fluid retention. Also, I’m prone to gain weight very easily and sadly bariatric surgery won’t fix it. Oh I’ll have a new set point, but I’m thinking I’ll always have to be extremely cautious or else I’ll get metabolically screwed again. So here’s something weird: I’m was able to take every one of those pounds off by the time I’d been back 4 days (which proves it was mostly fluid retention because it’s impossible to lose 4 pounds of actual fat in 4 days) Since then I’m up,down,up,down and I’m at 144., which is 6 pounds under GW. anyway, I took my measurements yesterday and my waist is down 0.5 inches more and my lower abs are down another 0.5 inches and my hips are down almost 0.75 more inches and I’m only 2 pounds lighter than I was at this time last month. Even if every single bit of that 2 pounds was pure fat, I don’t think it could take that much inches off of my body so things are still shifting. My size 8 pants (that I really just got into in early November) are stating to bag on me. Here is an example of that. -
My nutritionist gave me samples of the chewable bariatric fusion tablets. I like them. Only need to take once in morning and once at night. No other vitamins required. Cost is $30 for a one month supply.

Have any of you dumped on purpose?
Darktowerdream replied to JRT Mom's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Dumping syndrome is not just vomiting, yet everyone mentions that as the only form of dumping syndrome. Yes nausea and vomiting are two symptoms but so are cramps, diarrhea, flushing, dizziness and even rapid heart rate. it is rapid gastric emptying where food moves from your stomach to your small bowel to quickly. while yes suga is a big trigger it’s not always a trigger or the only one. I think most sugar is avoidable after bariatric surgery (there are sweet alternatives) and a low carb way of life is optimal. But other things can trigger dumping like some sugar Alcohols and foods a particular person is sensitive to. i avoid sugar and eat as low carb as much as possible. My nutritionist suggests less than 5 grams of sugar in a meal. as for dumping on purpose? Someone might do it if they are constipated. And it doesn’t mean cheating with sugar. Mostly it just happens and you might not know the trigger because it’s not always as simple as sugar. I also think doctors don’t explain dumping syndrome and what it is. My nutritionist did but not exactly the symptoms or that sugar isn’t the only trigger. I could be wrong but everyone seems to assume the OP wants to binge on sugar to see what happens. some folks can have a little bit of natural sweet food And complex carbs after bariatric surgery and do fine while others need to eat little to no sugar or carbs. -
Idk if ur willing or able to travel but my surgeon has Patients fly from New York and even out of the country to see him. He fixes all the other surgeons mess ups. His name is Dr. Snyder Denver Bariatric. If it’s an option for you I would recommend getting into contact with his office. And at least getting a recommendation from him. I talked to my insurance company, they suggested a second opinion. My current doctor is the head of bariatric surgery at BS&W hospital in Plano. So everyone there knows her. I have to go to a center of excellence, as per my insurance. All of the other doctors names they gave me know my doctor. This is a nightmare, especially right now during the holidays. I don’t want to gorge on anything, but I would love to taste some. I’m sick of knowing nothing. I just never get answers. Maybe I’m not asking the right questions. I really appreciate your input. It makes me believe I’m not crazy for being upset over this process. Thank You!
