Help, I'm Addicted To Ice Cream
ready for my journey to be replied to kentx05's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I LOVE KEIFER AND FROZEN FRUIT...PUT IT IN THE NINJA OR BLENDER BETTER THEN ANY ICE CREAM OR PLAIN GREEK YOGURT WITH SOME FROZEN FRUIT AND SPLENDA TASTY STUFF GOOD LUCK !!! -
I recieved it in the mail not to bad. 2 Protein shakes 1 1/2 pieces of fresh fruit. 4 oz turkey or lean meats 2 slices of lite whole grain bread. and 6 oz of lite yogurt. about 800 calories. this seems about the same or less than I will eat when I am on the full food stage. Oh well. I have to bear down and just do it. It starts 9/9 and then a battery of preop tests and nutrition classes on the 15th and surgery on the 23rd. It will be here before I know it. Greg

Unsatisfied with food!
Chele H replied to onthefencejenny's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hmmm... I guess I am a creature of habit and eat a lot of the same things every day and do not get bored. Your menu looks pretty much like mine. But I do believe your taste will return, it takes time. You are very early out. Looks like you are getting plenty of protein...don't forget your Water. Your weight loss is great. Does your plan allow some fruit yet? How about half an apple or banana with some Peanut Butter as a snack instead of a yogurt. i would peel the skin off the apple. I find I really enjoy these "treats" but only eat them sparingly because of the carb content. Tuna salad on cucumber slices? have you tried making your meat with some type of sauce or gravy? Chicken marsla, lemon chicken, meatloaf, meatballs with either brown gravy or spaghetti sauce....so you are not eating plain meat? One of my favorite and easy ways to cook chicken is to cut up boneless breast into cubes, season with salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, brown it in a little oil and then add a can of cream of chicken soup(and the water or milk as directed)and let simmer until done. I add dumplings for the rest of my family but the chicken is moist and tasty from the Soup. Google some crock pot recipes...makes meat moist and juicy and the cooking liquid/gravy adds flavor. You'll get there! -
Almost a week since the surgery and adjusting

Good for you! I actually preferred the liquid stage. Shakes for breakfast, broth for lunch then maybe a yogurt (thinned out with soy milk) for dinner. Just easier! @Mikeyy -
Maybe not for everyone, but when I called doc he said to have start with some drinkable yogurt. He was thinking hunger pains, and it was. No probs since adding a thicker liquid. Just a thought.

Janine, you may have a point. I only had two yogurt shakes that day. What I ate was the only real food I had that day. I ate more carbs in that day than in a whole week. And I was highly stressed that day more that usual. You may be right. Thanks. I'm glad you're going to a support groups/dietician. I was at my support group when I felt bad the other night. There was a rep from Shaklee showing their products. My nutritionist recommends 2oz - 4oz of Protein. But that depends on your restriction level. At the meeting one person suffers daily with the same stuck food feeling. And she also have something hot before meals. But there are time when she doesn't eat to keep from having that feeling. There were mention of getting a small unfill which might relieve that feeling when eating. Does anyone think having a unfill might relieve the problem? If you have a small unfill you may not have restirction again. What is anyone's opinion on this? I'm at the best restriction since the band and an unfill of any amout will allow me to eat like before. I won't but the ability will be there. How's everyone else doing?

Gastric Sleeve after 50 (Senior Sleevers)
darcyjae replied to Lainie-lou's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
On the liquid diet? My weight center (MGH) allows broth, 1% or skim milk, tomato soup (no chunks), and low/no sugar high protein greek yogurts. And of course clear liquid options like sf popsicles and jello. But from what I see, diets tend to vary, so definitely refer to what your doctor gave you! -
Ugh! Here I am again! Why did I think this would be different?!? The minute your try to restrict my food I figure out how to take it to the edge as far as I can. Sleeve 4/26/18 Hw:215 Sw:215 Cw: 192 Gw: 145 Yesterday I ate a 1000 calories in the form of small things of cottage cheese and yogurt. Everything tasted so good. Last week i binged on 8 saltines. This feels like I’m on a diet. And that’s the one thing I immediately rebel against. Does anyone else have this going on?

Luckily my surgeon allows greek yogurt with SF preserves on Full liquids so on day 2 of pre-op I'm not doing too bad. Starting tomorrow I'm having 2 yogurts for lunch instead of one. Hopefully that helps the rumblies. I also picked up some of that high protein/low carb pudding from GNC but haven't tried it yet.

I am going to purchase unflavored protein powder. You could try getting some and putting in yogurt? -
Help! Weight loss stopped and so run down
Bronco0605 replied to Sharon7370's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Try greek yogurt or cottage cheese they both have tons of protein. Also how many times a day are you eating? My nutritionist said I should eat 5-6 times a day both now and post op. -
7 weeks out: How many oz. are you eating?
JessicaAnn replied to Cheer Mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 weeks out and can eat 3oz of dense protein, and 4 oz of soft food like yogurt -
Miralax worked for me along with a daily Activa yogurt. The benefiber chewable and powder did nothing.

I've been doing better since I started having Kashi GoLean and/or Fiber One Cereal pretty much every day. I could handle 1/3-1/2 cup mixed with Fage or Oikos Greek yogurt (which also has fiber) until a couple days ago - I think my fill has kicked in and I could only handle 1/4 cup today. My liquid Vitamin has some fiber in it. For the last 6 weeks or so I've been averaging about 12g fiber, which isn't the 25 you're "supposed" to get, but I figured it was pretty good for my intake. The days I do best are the days when I have my vitamin, high fiber cereal, two veg servings, and a fruit serving. I really prioritize getting veg/fruit after I fit in my protein!

That's a relief to hear you kept yogurt down and it's less than one week after surgery! My nutritionist (and all the surgical group's literature too) talked about greek yogurt alot - she recommend chobani plain or vanilla because it's lower in surgar, but she definitely keeps mentioning greek yogurt as one of the first soft foods since it's high in Protein, so it sounds like a good choice to me Yes, it does seem very much like politics, which ever surgery you choose people are very adament about it being the right one! I definitely see the good and bad side of things here with working at the hospital, I think that's what made me finally take the plunge. One person I know at work got the flu/high fever a couple months after, twice, and ended up in the ER both times because her stomach swelled and she couldn't keep anything down, was dehydrated/vomiting... and yet she still is the biggest advocate and said she wouldn't change a thing and would do it all over again. They took all of her "fill" out, so she could recover from the flu, then got re-filled. So that's reassuring if she went through that and is still happy with it!

first emotional breakdown...13 dpo...RNY regret?!
Ready4theday replied to rny.newlife's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I absolutely understand! I had to do the same - 2 weeks of liquids pre-op, then 2 weeks of liquid post-op. I was so sick of protein shakes! Have you tried thinning out some yogurt? Soups? I finally got some clear protein drinks (lemonade and kiwi & berry from the Bariatric Pal store) and they were a nice break from the sweet protein shakes. I'd also mix a little sugar-free Hershey's syrup with my fair life milk to make high-protein chocolate milk. Hang in there! You'll make it! Make sure you're staying hydrated. That will keep you full longer. On my 3rd week post-op, I was able to have pureed foods and could definitely tell a difference in my energy level (a lot more energy!). Refried beans and little cheese were my go-to food as well as unflavored protein powder mixed with mashed potatoes thinned out with Fairlife milk, with a little cheese. Those were really good and filling. Today (week 5), I begin soft foods. I had some sliced turkey breast and avocado for lunch and my pouch has been ok with it so far. Stick with it! You'll get there and it will be worth it!! HW 280 CW 254 SW 274 DOS 8/24/17 -
Try putting your whey protein in soup. I would usually put 1/2 scoop in it. If you are able to eat yogurt, put some in that too. Both of those solutions are what helped me get my protein in for the day. I'm 15 days out and still can't drink the protein shakes either. I've seen where people are taking their protein shakes and freezing them like a fudgesicle. I haven't tried that one yet. Good luck!

i probably will, but dr. sanchez's version of mushies is a cross between full liquids and mushies. pudding and ricotta cheese should be thinned a bit in the beginning with some milk. plus cream soups that have been pureed, thicker juices, thinned yogurt, etc. -

something I realized last night, after indulging in a bit of frozen yogurt...today it does not matter what my calorie count was yesterday. I know I have known that before, but it REALLY hit me today. Cause I was mad at myself for what I did yesterday. Who cares if you got emotional. All of us will at some point. So what. just pick back up. you have done such an AWESOME job!! I can't wait till I have lost 100. I think it will be amazing!! -

What Are You Eating On Your Pre-Op Diet?
hrtgoeson replied to NJsharon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to Starbucks in the AM and getting an orange/mango/banana smoothie and then greek yogurt with SF blueberry (or some other flavor) preserves. Usually yogurt for dinner too. And sometimes a third for a snack between breakfast and lunch. I'm happy with it so far. The different SF preserve flavors shake it up a bit and I love the Starbucks smoothie. Better than anything I can make. -
10 days out and I can eat everything. is this normal? please read and give input. thanks

OP you got a myriad of opinions from posters and everyone speaks from their own perspective, some who are giving you a strict admonishment and some who think you're probably ok but don't repeat the behavior. We're all here trying to help and there are NO absoutely right answers, surgeons and nutritionists give different dietary guidelines. Common sense does come into play, you have a brand new suture line that doesn't need to be tested or having solids trying to work thru the seam. Here's the other thing I want to say, just because you can doesn't mean you should. Psycholgically you may have lost your fear of eating things outside of your recommended diet, and this may continue to plague you as you move forward and affect your weight loss. After a while its a struggle to lose, this is the time you should be on the mark. Stock your cupboards with Protein powder and Soups so you always have something on hand, later down the line when you are cleared for solids, keep cheese sticks, yogurt or cottage cheese, beef jerkey, nuts...always have the right food handy if possible. -
Post-OP Liquid Diet Phase
BLERDgirl replied to ready2livenow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I mixed veg broth with unflavored Protein and pureed Beans and mixed with veg broth for a sort of soup. I also ate a lot of FAGE 0% greek yogurt. I would do a shake in the morning that I added whey protein to. The combination of the Protein powder and the yogurt was over half my protein for the day. I would then do another Protein Shake or more greek yogurt at lunch and could usually do a pureed veg or bean soup in the evening. Another thing I would do is have the orange creme Liquid Protein in a cup of herbal tea for Breakfast, again do the whey powder/yogurt for lunch. Then have the pureed veg or bean soup in the evening. My goal just became to get in my protein by lunch so I could have something svory in the evening. -
The Greek yogurt with fruit already mixed in is going to be higher in carbs but it's so yummy. Shyone, If you have a costco, I've been told you can buy quarts of it there pretty cheap. A lot of people really like the brand Fage. That's why I buy the plain and mix in sf syrups most of the time, to keep the carb count down. The plain is also higher in Protein.
