    I am banded

I asked my doc specifically and from day one he said non-fat milk was fine. I was SO glad because that's the base of my Protein shakes and I was worried I would have to do without those. They are my main salvation!!! I'm doing better as well. The Fourth was indeed hard with all the lovely smells coming from the neighbors yards. I went to a baseball game and EVERYTHING smelled good but when I actually looked at the food, it was like "bleah...no way". So that's good. My friend INSISTED we needed to get ice cream after the game and I didn't want to. I ended up buying a non-fat yogurt and not even eating it. It's still in my freezer. THAT IS A HUGE CHANGE FOR ME!!! I'm usually a little b*tch for ice cream!! Also doing better. Back at work after a week and two days off. It feels SO weird to be back at work! Oh well, gotta do it if I'm going to pay off this surgery. Don't want them to come reposses my band!! The bloat is gone, I lost 13 lbs REALLY fast and then my body seems to have put on the brakes, which is okay. Thirteen pounds in one week is pretty hard on a body. Still have a bad burning next to my port and it hurts if I sit for too long (was in a bit of agony at the baseball game.....also when something good would happen and I'd yell real loud...OUCH). Overall doing good. Having ZERO trouble getting liquids down, even thick liquids. I can see how I'm going to need a fill sooner rather than later!!
  2. I made a chicken and broccoli casserole with finely chopped cauliflower instead of rice. I also used the almost fat free cream of mushroom soup and mixed it with Greek yogurt. 224 calories, 23 grams of protein. It was so good.

    November 2013 Post Op

I think it's just really hard in the beginning to get in requirements for protein and fluids..I'm 3 wks out and it's just starting to get easier now..i literally bring a drink and snack wherever I go..I've been doing the drinkable yogurt because it goes down easy has protein and travels pretty well! I feel like I've brought home a newborn baby and I have to take care of it 24/7! Takes time to get used to this new lifestyle! !!

    November 2013 Post Op

Cheese sauce on cauliflower is way over the fat grams for me.. We must stay under 3 grams for any food and under 5 grams of sugar! But there really are many products that meet that need! I went to cott cheese and eggs, yogurt after day 7 due to the "runs ". Bummer but the new foods have corrected that with every change up! I have lost 45. # and am now having my second stall ( first lasted 11 days! ???? )
  5. I've only had my sleeve two weeks but it really is a whole new world. I've gone 3 weeks without throwing up, which is a record with the band. Even though I'm only on full liquids I could have issues iwth the band when it came to eating something like yogurt. I can have breakfast in the morning without have to down 24 oz of water first to make sure food could even go down. I just feel like this is what weight loss surgery was supposed to be all along. I had my band 3 years but I was miserable with it. Fills, unfills, re-fills, re-unfills...neverending vicious cycle. I will never recommend the band to anyone. Sleeve ALL THE WAY!

Any Vegetarians With A Band? Vegans?

I only eat fish, so that's a big part of my daily protein. I mix it up with FF refried beans, a few pine nuts tossed in my salads, and any FF version of dairy with good protein like cheese, cottage cheese, and yogurt. I'm usually too full to deal with starches, so an occasional bit of potato is a treat but not something I care all that much about. I never eat bread or pasta (by choice), and I can't stand the taste of those Boca or veggie burgers. *blech* Yes, I have a very boring diet, but I like it that way.

1 Year Out An Its Not Good.

Do you have any idea what size your sleeve is? I am 3 years out and there is no way I can eat 6-8 oz. I get mad sometimes because I can eat a lot more now than I could at one year. I can eat 8 oz of yogurt, but no way could I eat an 6-8 oz steak. Even though your sleeve seems to be on the larger size, you can still do your part by making sure your carbs are healthy carbs from vegetables and not white carbs such as rice and Pasta. The Protein you eat should be lean protein. Tracking it all on a site such as myfitnesspal, like everyone suggests, should show you exactly how many carbs and calories you're consuming. Good luck. You can do this!

    Suggestions please...

I am 7 months out and a slow loser. I have lost 45 pounds, but my starting weight was 218. I had a revision to a sleeve from a slipped band. I eat about every 2-3 hours. Breakfast is sugar free oatmeal made with milk. AM snack is a banana the 100 Greek yogurt with 1/4 c kashi lean crunch. Lunch is a vegetable and 2 protein-1/2 fat free cottage cheese or 2 light string cheese. PM snack is apple with 1 T low fat peanut butter. Supper is vegetable and 2 oz of some sort of protein. Night snacks are an apple with 1 T low fat peanut butter and 1/2 c frozen Greek yogurt. Hope this helps. It works for me.

    June 16th!

I'm home, and surgeon put me on full liquids before I left, so I get to have tomato soup and cream of wheat (thinned) and yogurt (thinned). Yum! I am off the pain meds already. How is everyone else doing? Jennifer
  11. Puddings, yogurt, mashed potates and cream soups were on my full liquid week not the pureed week. I think every doctor is a little different.
  12. I'm on full liquids now. Here's what I've had today 4 oz Peach soy baby yogurt- Breakfast fat free sugar free chocolate pudding cup-snack Optima Slim Fast shake (about 1/2's all I could stomach)- lunch full fat full sugar butterscotch pudding cup-snack This part is so much better for me than the broth. If I never have to have any broth for the rest of my life, I will be okay!! I thought I was going to die. I was absolutely starving, in fact I woke up from surgery hungry.
  13. a lot of nonfat greek yogurt - just make sure it doesn't have fruit bits in it. refried Beans with a little cheese melted on it tuna, chicken, or salmon (the flavored pouches of tuna and salmon are great for this) pureed with a tablespoon or so of plain nonfat greek yogurt. ricotta bake (the recipe is on the blog "the world according to eggface" - she also has a whole post dedicated to what to have on the puree phase, and later when cleared for "all food" she does posts called "A day in my pouch")

Try to eat as healthy as possible and work out a lot. I eat a light fruit yogurt for breakfast. 4 strawberrys and 6 cheese cubes for lunch. Then I walk to the gym .5 miles and run 2 miles on the treadmil and walk back another .5 miles. I drink a lot of water!! Then I will do two scoops of protein in 16 oz of skim milk. When I go home from work I will usally eat a grilled chicken breast with some broccoli and maybe some long grain rice if I am really hungry. Then I will do 50 min of circuit training after my stomach has settled. I have lost 131 lbs in 8 months so it must work. Good luck to you I hope this information has helped you.

    Puree Ideas Please!

I am about half way thru puree stage. Not being very adventurous cuz I don't like the idea of eating mushy food. I like fat-free refried beans pureed w/chix broth, add salsa juice or taco sauce and fat-free sour cream. Another fav is healthy choice cream of chicken soup, chix broth, unflavored protein powder. This week I added some mashed potatoes and it tasted better, more like a meal. Other than that I rely on key lime greek yogurt or soft scrambled egg.
  16. Yes I had the sleeve over two years ago and then converted the sleeve to the bypass. Post op six days now. Yes I had to do the two week diet prior to surgery. The first week consisted of a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch, and for dinner, 1/4" chicken, Turkey or fish with veggies. Second week was all liquids, including Water, homemade broths, Protein shakes & tea. Tomorrow will be two weeks that I have been on liquids and it is very hard. I am so tired of protein shakes so I've literally been drinking more of the broths and teas over the shakes. I've been able to do about 1-2 shakes a day. I feel satisfied without restriction when sipping. I can finish one cup of tea or broth without any discomfort. I've finally lost the six pounds that I gained during the surgery from the carbon dioxide and all of the fluids from the IV. I have one more week to go on liquids and then I can have my first egg. Either poached, scrambled or egg whites. I can also have lowfat geek yogurt and cottage cheese during week 3. I can't wait for that. We are almost right around the same dates for our surgery . I'm happy for you! Keep in touch. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pre Op Diet

Hi all- I started my pre op diet yesterday and things went pretty well. I was a little tired and ended up going to bed earlier than normal. I'm curious, how much weight did you lose on your pre op diet? My surgeon's diet is two weeks, a shake for Breakfast, shake for lunch, yogurt/fruit/veggies for a snack, and a small dinner. I must admit I'm quite hungry and even dreamed about fried chicken and mac & cheese last night. I found that quite funny because the last time I had a piece of chicken was 7 years ago!

    Social outings suck now

Thank you for the suggestions! I wound up bringing pumpkin spice yogurt to the Halloween party I went to last night. Everyone else loved it, I hated it! Lol Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. Thanks for sharing....I feel good about him...I just really dont see his name to much on here....did they give u post op meal ingo before u left. I only have pre op of 3 days water, yogurt. ..if u dont mind sharing.
  20. OMG! I just posted a blog entry about this. Today is day 8 post op, but my nut told me I could start "soft foods" this week -- yogurt, cottage cheese, creamed Soups. I was so eager to try, but find that it is very uncomfortable and unpleasant going down. After 2-3 bites, I've had to stop because it just wasn't worth it. I am going back to Protein shakes now. And hoping that will be okay because last week they gave me so much gas I had to stop drinking those. I read somewhere that if you experience an intolerance with something to give it a week or so and try again. Looks like that might be working with the protein shakes and thank God since it seems I can't consume the soft foods. It's all very frustrating, but I'm trying to stay focused on the end goal and not let these discomforts discourage me from my goals. But aaargh!!!

    Hello & Introduction

Dashroo, Sorry to hear you're still in so much pain. If you are worried about one of your incisions, I would talk to your primary care. In the worse case, you can go to a local ER. They have to treat you. Unfortunately, I have heard that if your insurance does not cover the procedure, they won't cover any complications. It's too bad so many of us are forced to go out of the country for this kind of help. It's a real Catch 22. I didn't really have to stay on a clear liquid diet. My Dr. told me I could have Protein shakes and anything else that I can fit through a straw as soon as I got home. So, for me, yogurt smoothies and cream Soups have been on the menu from the beginning. My husband took Susan's advice and pureed up some bean with bacon soup for me tonight, but, unfortunately, it stayed on the stove too long while his meatloaf finished cooking and burned--maybe tomorrow. The soup night is usually at a local restaurant. I don't think a location has been decided on yet. We'll let you know. I really do hope you feel better. I'll PM you with my phone number if you want to talk.

    I Week Out.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I did ask her! She said I don't advise Protein drinks, you need to get it out of your daily diet. She also told me at month 2 I could eat some fries if I wanted. Her list of foods for me now include fruit flavoured yogurt, WHITE bread etc They haven't told me to not drink with meals' no waiting rules nothing! Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
  23. Basically it's just no caffeine one week before surgery, and yogurt only for the 3 days before surgery. Not much more to it than that. No laxatives, no 2 week shakes or anything. I guess Dr Ponce figures 3 days is enough to empty the glycogen reserves in the liver, it works for him. If it makes you feel better you can do low carb now until your 3 day yogurt phase.

    Post Op Diet

It wasn't so bad for me, but my nutritionist included things like sugar free pudding, fat free yogurts and cream Soups with chunks strained out in our full liquid plan. They advanced me after one week, but I was so terrified to eat anything I even put off eating yogurt for two whole weeks and ate mostly broth!
