    NSV

It's been a long time since I have bought new clothes besides the usual jeans, t-shirts, stretchy pants and shorts because the last time I tried to get something nice to wear to go out, I ended up staying home because everything looked so horrible on me. You see I'm a true lover of fashion and all that goes with it or as my mother used to tell me a real clothes horse! I have so many clothes that broke the rods in 2 closets, have rolling racks, clothes in boxes and enough shoes to open a boutique! At one point after a huge weight loss (gain almost all of it back or I wouldn't be here) I loved clothes so much, I went to work in a high end clothing store just so I could get the discount and I love to dress people! Sad, isn't it? Well anyway, I ordered a couple of dresses since I am schedule for some orthopedic surgery and I wanted something that was easy on, easy off for the hospital. I took a guess at the size and prayed that they would arrive in time not be too small. Guess what? They did come in time and they were TOO BIG!!! Not only that, but the one I really liked look pretty good one me! I quickly ordered a smaller size of the one I liked and now as I sit here I am thinking I probably should have ordered it 2 sizes smaller than just 1. It may not arrive in time for my surgery date and it too may be too big (I kind of hope so), but guess what? I'm so happy about it, I don't care!

    Banders #7

No body knows the struggle loosing and gaining better than me. I remember losing 105 lbs back in 2009 in two years to get down to 180. The weight seem to come off so easy, BUT then I stop and in 4 short years I was back to 250 lbs. I had to take a strong look at my life and I felt like such a failure even at 250 it was still 80 lbs less then my highest weight. In January 2013 I rededicated myself and for the last 3 years and even though I am not terrific at following bandster rules I just seem to make more good choices then bad ones and I have gotten back down to 180. So I do know how frustrating you must feel and how ashamed it can be. Even if it is possible to gain weight it just as possible lose the weight again. I know what you mean about not leaving the board this is truly my support system. during those 4 years of gaining I rarely came back to the board. I do miss many of the bandsters that started with me back in September 2007 So when I am going through that 3 month stall I seem to concentrate on NSV just like I mention in my earlier post.

    Who Are You?

I am 38. I have been married to my best friend for 13 years, have 3 daughters (11,9,6) and live on a small ranch in rural Texas. I am a teacher, writer, and love to read. I have a brother that's 18 months younger than me that has both Down's Syndrome and Autism, and we are very close - he is in my home daily. I live near my parents (my brother lives with them) and have pet fish, a snake, a rat, 3 dogs, 3 cats, chickens and cattle. I have always seen myself as "athletic" - and the outside of me is starting to catch up to the mental image I have! I love camping, hiking, and anything with water. I have been to the Bahamas twice - and can't wait to go back! I love the beach and the Frio River. I love to fish - fresh or salt water. I love to cook - especially the game my husband brings home. I would love to completely live of the land.... I am loud, opinionated, and extremely loyal. I have always viewed myself as more than my weight - and even after just 5 moths post surgery, do not define myself by that number on the scale. I LOVE the NSVs associated with my healtheir self though....and have a bucket list of sorts I am checking off.... Next Saturday - I am back on a horse....

    Exercise Challenge!!!

did my workout! 12 min on treadmill 10 min on bike 10 min on epyliptical(or however you spell it) =32 min work out... NSV met my weekly goal of 150 minutes 2 days early!!!
  6. Hi Notorious Novembers! That is truly wonderful - that's a big NSV if ever I saw one! One of my best friends keeps saying to me that she doesn't want me to become a 'bobble head' with a big head on a tiny body. :hurt::cryin: I'm getting a lot of comments about me being "skinny enough" lately... DD - I'm following the same train of thought. I think I'd like to get down to 170, hold that for a while and see what I can do with exercise, then plan for a tummy tuck next year. With my DD starting college, there isn't a WHOLE lot of extra money to be had... Course, I'm also having some work done on the 'girls'...they are not what they used to be!

I had my follow-up today with Dr. Choban, and I am down 13 lbs from surgery! Yayyyy! I am also way excited that I am scheduled for my first fill May 6th. She initially said May 13th, but when they called me to schedule, turns out that she is not available that day. So rather than make me wait 7 weeks, she brought me in a week early. I am totally thankfull for that, and I can not WAIT! Also, huge NSV for me today! I bought a size 24 jean today. And they fit. Well. Not only were they 24's (most of my closet holds 26 or 28's) they were Wal-Mart 24's. Not Lane Bryant, not Avenue, real person 24's. Okay, small victory, but it feels so huge, so I am just gonna enjoy the hell out of it! Also, Dr. Choban and I talked about our little group. I shared with her so many of our concerns, and how happy I am with the people I have met and the support that I receive from them. She thought that it was fabulous, and made the generous offer to attend one of our monthly meetings if we would like to discuss our concerns about the practice, ask questions about our recovery, anything. I thought that was really nice of her to offer. She said that any of the surgeons, nurses, or the dietician are available if we would ever like to schedule them to come and speak with us.

Welcome swood! You have found a great group of people for support and the right place to unload :wink2:. In response to your question, I hand delivered all my clearances except my cardio. BIG MISTAKE! I should have delivered that one as well. It took almost 2 months for them to get it to Charlene. IMHO I would make a trip to each doc and insist on taking it yourself. You will know for sure that each clearance is in Charlenes hands and it will relieve the stress you are feeling right now. Best of luck to you. Hi everyone!! Niki and Kathy~ WOOT!! WTG!!! I love those NSV moments. Smaller sizes are just the added bonus to feeling better and being healthier. Everyone have a blessed day~

Sarah -- good to hear from you too. Don't sell yourself short lady you are so doing well... I'm stuck at my current weight even though I'm adding more exercise this month (which might be building muscle) and so my month goal to hit 90 by my birthday is pretty much out the window but I'm still working toward it -- for whenever I get there. I know you will get there if you've done this great already. Be sure to take some motivation pictures and/or measurements and you might be surprised at how well you're doing on NSVs and those sure do count too.

Niki - that's a great jeans victory! Congratulations. I got a couple pairs of 26 and zipped all the way up and I was happy on that. Wasn't used to the muffin top of wearing jeans again though. Guess I'll keep trying them on until they look better and looser. My NSV today is buttoning a 24 blazer all the way down the front, all three buttons with no pulling/puckering! Hoping to knock on the 22 door by Thanksgiving and maybe even 20 by Christmas/New Years! I am doing pretty good on the Labor Day to Hallow-Lean challenge - I think I'm going to meet my goal of 14 lbs lost in that time frame. I am amazed.

Okay folks I would say this fill still hasn't taken me to my ultimate sweet spot because I was still able to eat 3 oz of steak, half a potato and maybe less than 1/2 of my salad at lunch then 6 hours later finished the other 3 oz of my steak and the other half of the potato. Eating very slowly and being very full with the 1/2 of the meal but still surprised I could eat that much before getting my signal to stop. I did have a little NSV over this though... my Mom and I were out eating together and she is always the last one done eating and it was so funny to see her eat a dinner roll, polish off her salad, and eat most of her 10 oz ribeye steak and sweet potato when I ate what is listed before this. In the past, I would have had the bigger steak and been finished way ahead of her. I ordered the smallest size steak (6 oz) and was surprised to see I could only eat half of that.

Great post... yep! Gave me a chuckle too... A NSV is a non scale victory... or in this case a 'new state of vertical'!!!!!

    In one year I....

Hello my beloved V V's!! Today is my Bandiversary and I couldn't be more grateful, blessed, elated, fulfilled and proud. I've lost 81 pounds and am still in shock over my new found health and vigor for life. This last year has been a journey like no other. As I think back on this day last year, I was terrified heading into the operating room, yet committed to making the life changes necessary to make the band work for me. There have many up's and down's, including some nasty PB episodes that nearly put me over the edge, but the NSV's certainly outweigh (no pun intended) any bad episodes. I am free from the prison of food. I no longer obsess about food, use it as an emotional crutch or surrender to its temptations. I understand what satiation and moderation mean and can enjoy the balance of healthy food along with endulgances...and not feel guilty!! I have discovered what true self worth means and for the first time in my life can say 'I love myself". This self love has made my marriage stronger, my frienships more meaningful and my life generally more abundant. When faced with challenges, I don't use food as an escape, I face them head on. For the first time in my life I didn't have the New Year's resolution of losing weight! I enjoy getting my picture taken. I have more pairs of jeans than I did when I was a kid. I shop at Macy's. I'm going to Maui in two weeks and am excited that I won't have to constantly be self concious. I feel like I look 10 years younger. My blood pressure and cholesterol are NORMAL. But most importantly..and this is the biggest gift of all...I have been given the green light to get pregnant and my hubby and I are hopeful that this is the year we become parents!! Yes...I am blessed. Thank you VV's for being the true source of support, love, and encouragement. There is so much power in friendship and I will forever be connected to all of you....especially Rhapsody...my sister from another mister!! Thank you for letting me share my thoughts on this very special day. I'm not going anywhere and can't wait to hear from everyone else. I'm also posting a couple of recent pics. Lots of love, Amy

    ...just got real!

So glad to hear that you are doing well, I'm sure the numbers on the scale will be kind but if not look at all of your current NSV's ???????????? I actually weigh myself everyday and use this app to keep the progress. I'm glad that your hernia isn't bothering you this week but so jealous- my hernia repair is awful, I feel like I have acid in my esophagus and I'm having some discomfort but it comes with the territory so I will be patient Yayyy for being able to get away when your hubby chases you- you two sound sooo cute

Holli- GIRL!!!! WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOU LATELY!!!! That is one of the weirdest things I have ever heard. Why did they take so much out....were you still in excruciating pain and unable to swallow saliva or something when you went in..... Was this the recommendation of Dr H to take out 5 cc, or the decision of the ER doc?? I'm so sorry!!! It's VERY late...longest day yet. Very fun filled, and productive....yet exhausting. Went to the NASA space center and the kids had a blast...I'll have to send you all some pictures when I get home... NSV today!! I actually bought an outfit at Old Navy!! Never done that before...and can I just say that regular sized people get much better deals on clothing:biggrin1: Quick report on food for the day: B: Nothing L: (late breakfast..shared a monstrous Texas sized breakfast platter with my hubby). Coffee, 1 over easy egg ....(I've found those go down better than scrambled now), 5 bites of hubby's country fried steak...YUMMY! S: Couple bites of Dippin' Dots D: Split entree with hubby again....about 6 bites of spin/art dip and chips, 2 bites of mashed potatoes, 4 oz (if that) of grilled steak. Hubby, kids, and I split a bananas foster dessert 4 ways (bananas have potassium and are good for you right?? ) Not too bad today, but not great either...No gym work out, but OMG soo much walking my feet hurt bad tonight!! Thanks Diane for the kind words! You are right....every day is a new start, and I just can't believe how much fun I am having compared to what it would have been like for me to come down here last year. I would have been miserable in the heat, aching, exhausted constantly with no energy to do anything. I"m having a blast with family/kids, and for that I need to be so incredibly thankful!!! Talk to you guys tomorrow. Nighty Night:notagree

Hi to everyone. Got back from Florida from vacation and was anxious to get on my home scale this a.m. -- I stayed off the scale on vacation because I didn't want to let it run my life.... AND....drum roll now! I lost 4.8 lbs on vacation from where I was on June 13th when I left to today! Go Shrinking Shamrocks Go!! AND second NSV... I was able to buckle a seat belt without an extension on the flights from Columbus to Charlotte, NC on an Embraer jet that only had 2 seats on each side but I needed about 4" of the extension belt still (darn!) on the 737 jet that went from Charlotte to Florida. Can't wait until I can buckle the airplane seat belt regardless of which plane I fly on but that was such a nice feeling. I've updated my ticker and officially crossed the 40 lbs lost milestone as of today. About 3.5 months since surgery 3/17/08 to lose 40 lbs is fantastic for me. I'm off to church to sing praises and thank God for all he has done for me through this surgery and the friends I have met due to this journey. P.S. Yes, I too now know what sliming and productive burping is. Nothing terrible but I definitely have a different level of restriction with this 2nd fill and if I push it and eat a few bites past my limit, I have that pressure sensation, want to get rid of it, and have excused myself once in a restaurant to be sure I was okay. I know now to just leave the food on the plate and let it to away and try not to feel guilty that my family or friend paid for a dinner and I can only eat maybe 1/3 of it. That's what got me, trying to eat a Thai dinner of chicken and vegetables, I didn't even look at the cup of white rice that came with the meal, and I just had to let 2/3 of it go to waste. I had warned them I couldn't eat much so they knew it wasn't that I didn't like the restaurant's food they chose to go to but I just was full. Okay, off and running for the day! God Bless to all!

I got my 2nd fill today with Dr. Miller and Missy at MCW with fluro. Dr. Miller actually did the fill and he hit it within less than 30 seconds of trying. Very painless 2nd fill. He said I can do my next fill in the office, no fluro needed. I have a NSV too -- Missy walked up to my tummy and started to feel for my port and she had this big smile and said I can feel your port!! :behindsofa: just like that.. so I guess the 9 lbs I lost in the 6 weeks from 1st fill on April 29 to June 10 (today) is melting away some of that abdominal area fat! According to my home scale this puts me about 35 lbs since my pre-op weight about March 10 when I started a voluntary pre-op diet and lost some before surgery. 2nd Fill done 6 weeks after 1st fill and they added 1.5cc's to my 4.5cc's from first fill so I'm at 6 cc's total in my 14 cc's band. Actually Missy said that if I have any issues and had to go into an ER for help while on vacation that I was to tell them 6 ml's. Do cc's and ml's equal each other? Actually I'm now anticipating getting on the airplane this Friday a.m. and seeing how close I come to buckling the seat belt without having to then still get the extender. I can't wait until I no longer have to go through that embarrassment.

Halloween (Oct. 31) - What will you Weigh?

The day I joined this challenge I was at three weeks post-op and worried I might be facing a stall... I was right. I spent two weeks at the same weight. Finally, the scale has started to move again and I'm down 3 lbs. I still feel like I can reach my Halloween goal of 165. The best NSV yet was buying a size 12 pair of jeans yesterday. I wanted to announce it from the roof tops but I settled for just calling my honey ( who has no clue about woman's sizes) and then calling my daughter who could comprehend the gravity of this event. LOL

    5 months

Yesterday marked 5 months post op for me! Down 93 lbs in those 5 months and 130 since I started my WLS process. My favorite NSV is buying shirts anywhere; concerts, festivals, souvenir shops. ETC. Shirts, more my personality rather than the plain ones I bought because they fit. I don't measure myself too much. I did the night before surgery and have 1 other time I think 2 months ago. I carry most of my weight in my stomach so the only number that really changed was my waist measurement. I will again, but it is not a big deal to me because I can see a drastic change (most days) some days I do still the extra chunky me but most days I easily see the new and improved me. I am so grateful that this has been so smooth, really haven't had any issues at all. I hope everyone is doing well, KEEP CHUGGIN! ❤️

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Hi everyone! I want to share a wonderful NSV that I had today. I wore my size 14 cami and large size long black skirt to my friend's pool party. It looked good! it did not require modification to put on or zip (it zips on side, fitted through abdomen)! I'm so excited! I tried it on a month ago and couldn't pull it over my breasts! Now, I just got a new outfit without spending a dime! I swear, going to my closet is like going to the mall where I already own it. I got my size medium BDU pants buttoned, but they are still too tight to wear - have major muffin top issues and no room to tuck in shirt. And they definitely did not pass the squat test. :-( but give it a few more weeks, and it will! :-) share some nsvs!

    VSG cured my cervical dysplasia!

OK gotta' chime in here. I'm a Woman's Health NP and spent most of my career caring for women, doing cervical cancer screening and prevention. Not bragging, just letting you all know I have the creds to address this. You are absolutely correct in saying your year of healthy eating has "cured" your dysplasia. Well, not exactly, but what has happened is your body is now able to devote some energy to fighting the virus that caused your dysplsia - the HPV virus. Chances are we've all had at least 1 of the more than 100 strains of HPV out there. Some of us got lucky and got one of the less aggressive ones. Some got one of the more virulent strains that cause high grade dysplasia and cervical cancer. Like all viruses, we need our immune system to be healthy in order to fight off the negative effects of a virus. (Ever get a simple cold but because of stress, it knocked you on your ass?) Stress comes in many different forms, and being obese is a HUGE stressor on which your body has to expend a lot of its resources fighting. Congrats to you for taking this step towards good health. A pretty major NSV, wouldn't you say? By the way, if you have kids, get them vaccinated against HPV. Girls AND boys ( it takes two to tango!)
