    Insurance Companys Are The Boss

Hey there! I read your post and thought I'd respond with what little I know. I don't believe that your insurance co. is stallin' for time. I don't know what kind you have but their requirements sound pretty much the same as most insurance companies who need documention before they will approve. My insurance co. required the same thing--basically. In addition I also have to attend a pre-op nutrition class. Most ins. co. require at least a psych evaluation, 6 mth of documention of structured/medically based weight loss attempt, at least one Dr. letter and some require even MORE than that. Just hang in there though...it gets better. I'm still in the waiting process myself. May God bless you in your efforts.
  2. The doctor said I have to lose the weight again. He also said he would not be apposed to me using diet pills, but would not prescribed them. He told me I would have to get my general practitioners to prescribe them. She said that they do not prescribe diet pills. So I made a appointment with a local weight loss clinic, they gave me 1 months worth off Phendimetrazine pills. I go back for another month of pills on the 14th. I have lost 14lb on the pills, the diet doctor has been monitoring my blood pressure. He said it was all good. I have 1 1/2 monthso till I see my bariatric surgeon again. Wish me luck. Thanks for being so nice Sent from my SM-G930T1 using the BariatricPal App

    Skin Question...

There is no lotion or pill that is going to have any real effect on saggy skin. Using lotions is good for basic hydration of the outer surface, but that's it. It isn't going to radically fix skin that has been stretched out from being fat. Several things are in play for how well your skin will bounce back after weight loss: Genetics. If you have family members that are not real wrinkled and seem to be aging well, then chances are you might have a decent chance of having good skin. If you didn't get lots of stretch marks from gaining weight, then that is also a sign of good skin genetics. Count yourself lucky for this. Age is also a factor. If you're young, skin just has more elasticity. How fast you lose weight. If you are a fast loser, then the skin will sag much more. The slower/longer it takes you to lose, the more time your skin has to adjust to weight loss. Of course if you are a fast loser, you might look much more saggy for a while, but skin may tighten up after so long, so it's not terrible to be a fast loser. How long you've been fat. The longer you've been at a large weight and the longer your skin has been stretched out, the less likely it will bounce back as well. It is just like blowing up a balloon - blow it up and then let the air out immediately, the balloon will probably look pretty good, but wait for 5 days and deflate it and it will be stretched out and wrinkly. Same principle with skin. The best thing you can do is make sure to keep up with your Protein and Water. If you're taking your Vitamins, eat healthy and stay hydrated, that is your best path. By all means, use good lotions like coco butter to keep the outer layer hydrated and nice, but what you put in your body is probably the best way to help minimize the sag. Oh! And avoid tanning and sun damage, and exercise to build muscle since that also helps fill out skin that has lost fat.

    100lbs Down!

Well done @ ! That's an amazing loss in 10 months! I hope you are able to eat more soon.
  5. I'm 34 weighing in at 252 lbs. I've struggled with my weight my entire life. I've finally had enough, the day I could no longer strap into my favorite roller coaster was the day I started looking into weight loss surgery. I've decided on the gastric sleeve and am currently waiting to schedule my sleep study and attend the mandatory seminar for qualifications for my insurance. This is an amazing place to read information and I'm grateful to you all!!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App

Lightheadedness? A Bit Dizzy? Anyone Else

I just got back from md folks, have maintained my after surgery weight of 187, (Yeah) but the lightheadedness/dizzyness he said is probably from the blood pressures medicines. My bp when he took it was 110/60. I take one in am and one in pm, the lost of 30 lbs so suddenly can certainly affect these. So if someone is taking any and experiencing same, contact the dr that rxd them to you and explain to him whats going on, Miss Meow, because I was getting lapband, my eye dr, opted to wait to rx me new eyeglasss perscriptions till after because yes, the weight loss can affect our eyes, the change in the water in our bodies has a great deal to do with our eye sight. I tend to be like you all these new little nusisances I tend to blame the surgery, Oh the things we learn on this new journey! But I feel so much better now, knowing it wasn't me being all anxious, it really was something going on!

    A1C has dropped!

Congratulations on your improved health. My A1C went from being barely diabetic to normal (mid to upper 4's) because of the weight loss. I second that "Yayyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    My journey:)

These are pictures from my weight loss journey that I have been on this last 8 months with some before pictures scattered in here and there(and of course, my Grandson and inspiration). I have lost 90 pounds and now only have another 12 pounds to go. I am wanting to start toning now and hopefully in a few months just start maintaining my weight. This has been a long road with some bumps in it, but I wouldn't change anything. I feel so much better, have so much more energy, and I love going to the gym!! I am thankful for all the support of my family and friends as I have been on this road. https://flipagram.com/f/kGVsefpRaq

    The BIG picture

@@DaisyAmy, never, ever be disappointed or allow yourself to feel "down" about slow progress! First off, and I am sure you have heard this before, everyone's body responds differently to weight loss surgery, and everyone loses at a different pace. It's okay, what is important is that while you may not see the changes on the scale as quickly as you like, you are making progress in terms of better, healthier eating habits and, as you mentioned, your health is improving! Congrats on no longer having fatty liver issues or diabetes! That is fabulous news!

    Activity Resrtictions??

well, fwiw, even the skinniest dressage queen should use a mounting block to mount because it's better for the horse's back and the saddle. I started my late BS Paint myself when I weighed 290lbs and I weigh 250 now (having band complications that will require band removal and hopefully a revision to RNY). I ride 3-4 days a week on my 7yr old Thoroughbred and am learning Dressage now. I asked my dressage trainer whether my weight was hurting my mare and he said no basically because I know how to ride. I'm not a sack of potatoes that can't balance in the saddle. So, don't let your current weight stop you. It took me a while to get my surgery but my initial weight loss was significant (40lbs in 3 months). You'll be fine!!!

    Is my Weightloss an track?

You really can't compare your weight loss to other being that everyone starts at a different level and everyone body is different. The heavier you are the fast you lose at first. So just trying to get more Protein and liquid to keep your energy up!! Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. As a quick recap, Besides my family, I only told two people about my surgery. But they ended up telling a lot of other people, so basically almost everyone I know now knows. Fortunately everyone has been very supportive, asking How I'm doing and congratulating me for doing this for myself. Well today I went in to get my nails done (the one girlie thing I do for myself ) and as soon as I walk in my nail tech says "you've got to tell me how you've lost so much weight and don't tell me it's exercise and diet 'cause that's crap" Well with a salon full of people, I tried to hum and haw around it awhile but finally told her about the surgery. She and another patron were intrigued and full of questions. After the gossip session was all over she asked me why I never said anything before (I had actually been in there 6 days postop ) and I told her it was embarrassing to me that I was such a big fat cow that I had to have surgery to lose weight and I didn't want people to be watching my weight loss and gossiping about me. She exclaimed it was nothing to be embarrassed about and if anyone was gossiping it's because they would be jealous of me getting skinny and they didn't have the balls to do what I did. I seriously can't believe what supportive responses I've gotten from everyone so far and I'm so grateful I don't have any horrible, jealous haters in my life.

    11 month update

I haven't been on here in a very long time. I thought I'd stop in and share my progress. I am a shortie at 5'2". My highest weight was around 210. I know that doesn't seem like a lot, but I had been struggling with my weight for 20+ years. My surgery weight was 181. I have lost slowly and consistently for the past 14 months. I started really working on my weight loss several months prior to surgery. Today I weigh 114. I am past my original goal. I do not want to lose anymore. Typically I wear a size 2. I don't feel like a thin person, though. It is so hard mentally, because I still feel like I think like a fat person. Unfortunately, I have reintroduced some bad habits. I am drinking diet soda again. I am not getting the Water I should. I also don't always make the healthiest food choices. I just don't eat as much as I used to. I do get hungry and I do have cravings. I do exercise, but I go in phases with it. I love being able to wear fashionable clothes. I feel so much better in my own skin. I am really glad I made the decision I did. I couldn't have even have come close to getting this far without surgery.
  15. yes...i'm about 6wks out and at a complete stall!! i feel the same way, eat so little and nothing is happening. last wk i had a couple of glasses of wine and steak meat and lost saw a 3 lb loss in the morning. then about 3 days later the scale went back up 2 lbs. i can't figure this out!! with the band the weight just fell off the 1st couple of months. i'm getting discouraged. idk

    Hair loss and perming hair

For me it was Aquanet! That crap glued the air vent to the floor of the bathroom and it took a crowbar to get it off! I have developed a L'ange obsession. There is a hairdresser out of Boise who sells it, but also provides hair care advice - Jasmine Rae Hair Co., you can find her on Facebook and Instagram. I might just be seeing things, but her advice seems to be helping my hair. Things like how to blowdry/shampoo/brush and do less damage. Apparently vigorously towel drying your hair causes frizz and breakage, who knew? Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Hair loss and perming hair

This is not the answer to your question, but... I am...older... and I have thinning hair as well. I have used Rogaine on and off over the years, and it does help. I get fine fuzz, which helps hide the scalp. I also use a colored dry shampoo to camouflage the bad spots, and lo and behold, that topomax helps too. I guess it works, as my daughter came with me when I had my hair washed and cut, and she said she never knew my hair was thin...
  18. I have done so well. 3 months out, 53lbs lost. Exercising now, weight loss is slowing. My sweet tooth seems to have returned somewhat- HELP! I work and stay busy, is it boredom, I just want to taste it, I have even spit it out. The urge is hitting me everyday. All of a sudden I want gelato, a piece of chocolate or two, a cupcake. It must stop. I am scared and need to adjust my thinking. Tips, thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

    Hello from a newbie...

I am so sorry for your loss. It has got to be so hard to go through such a massive change on top of your grief. Please be gentle with yourself and don't be afraid to ask for and accept support from your friends, family, your surgical team, and folks on these boards. I know the early liquid and soft stages are tough but they will be over soon. The good thing is that they aren't forever. Just do the best you can but try hard to get in your Protein and fluids. Both are critical for healing. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

    Hello from a newbie...

I'm so sorry to hear of your husband's loss. The emotional upheaval from that alone is overwhelmingly traumatic. But as you said he wanted you to be healthy, and you need to be healthy for yourself most of all. I hope the road ahead is smoother. Best of luck on your journey!
  21. Hello all Today was my first visit with my surgeon . So I'm at the beginning stage of my journey. I'm excited and nervous at the same time . I have battled with my weight for the last 10 years and beginning to get progressively worst . As a mother of five I want be around for my children . Aside from being morbidly obese I really don't have any other health issues. I joking call myself the healthiest fat chick I know. I researched this for over a year . I have decided on going with the sleeve as it's better for me and my lifestyle. I am comfortable with my surgeon and his stats. The office staff was very friendly. The host of other doctors is going to be a killer for me because I'm trying to get as much done before September when I go back to work .( I'm a teacher) My insurance company requires 4 month weight loss program which is not as bad as I initially thought considering I only have three more to go . Also my dr said we are looking at a possible date in December which works great for me. Around the break so I don't miss any time from work

    Frustrated by progress

Well it's been almost three weeks since your surgery. So that infamous "3 week stall" was going to happen. People stall either at 3 weeks or a little before that. But the weight loss will start back up again. I know my stalls lasted a week each time and for me to break them, I either needed more of something like more protein or I needed more exercise. There are other ways to break stalls besides those options but you're in the very beginning stages and right now, it's not really advisable to try them. No Do Overs

So today I have been thinking about how badly I ate yesterday. I had a pampered chef party and of course the food is NOT conducive to weight loss. I had a protein shake before hand hoping that it might help me not overeat at the party. Yeah right! Loaded baked potato chowder, strawberry cake with whipped cream, turtle bar cookies...*sigh*. This morning I got up and had my normal bowl of bran flakes, but was feeling guilty because I still had that "I ate too much" feeling from yesterday. Sometimes these feelings just go round and round in my head and I beat myself up and I am not even really aware of it. Today, however, I was aware of it. A rule that I try to live by is "Tomorrow is a new day". No matter what I do today, as long as I wake up tomorrow morning, I get to start all over. No... there are not any "Do Overs". If I screwed up yesterday... I screwed up yesterday. Can't take it back or undo it. But I can let it go. It is in the past. Move on. One of the main things I want to do when I beat myself up, is comfort myself with food. My emotional appetite can be ravenous. Something sounds good, and I think I will feel better if I eat it, but lo and behold, it does not make me feel better at all. So I try something else. Eventually, I only end up feeling horrible and the emotional thing is still there. If I can ever truly get a handle on that, there is no telling how much my life would change. I am human... I screw up.... Move on!! So... today... My mind starting doing that... man.. you ate way to much.... you still have a lot of weight to lose, and at this rate, you are NEVER going to lose it all. I HATE THESE THOUGHTS! *Sheesh* Get me off this freakin mental merry go round! :tt1: So today, I will do better than yesterday. I will forgive myself for screwing up (again) and I choose to move on. My life is better today then it was 9 months ago and I am determined it is going to keep getting better. After all... what have I got to lose????
  24. I am 36, have a family and would like some real life honest experiences about bypass. I have type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and I am on metformin, karvizide, and injecting Byetta twice a day for my diabetes. I have had a gastric band for 6 years now and successfully kept off my lost weight since the band was put in. I still have more weight to lose which may be why my diabetes isn't under control, and blood pressure still not stable. Today my specialist and gastric doctor said it would be a very good idea to have the gastric bypass to solve the problem of my diabetes. They said That it would either help a lot or cure it altogether. I am reading bits and pieces about the benefits of losing weight etc, but who of you out there wants to share the side effects?? With the band, a side effect was acid reflux,.......so what bad side effects do I need to consider for the more permanent bypass. The other thing I could consider is putting more fill into my band and putting MORE effort into weight loss, but I just don't know if that will kickstart weight loss again,,,,,,,enough! I have heard examples of people getting diabetes and problems associated with it, then having bypass surgery, they drop all their weight and their diabetes goes into remission! No tablets or injections ever again? I am still in the throws of just considering this surgery so any experiences or relative information would be appreciated!

    Emotions

Yes, we mostly ALL run through this at one time or another- and most of us MULTIPLE times. We are creatures of habit and we obese people are obese in mind too. We have so much access to cheap hi cal food that it can make our minds spin. Failure to subdue this - at least in part - CAN lead to eventual failure of the sought after weight loss. Try and fill the void with low cal, high Protein food that you DO like. Don't punish yourself but find alternatives that you like. Constantly craving the foods you lust after is only going to make you aggrivated and probably set yourself up for failure. Have you joined a weight loss program? Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig? The psychological help can help you overcome.
