  1. @becca1281 I have a new favourite Protein shake. I mix one danactive yogurt drink, a scoop of vanilla Protein Powder and three quarters of a cup of fresh orange juice together with ice and blend it - it tastes like a creamsicle. So yummy! Not sure why the site is putting links to my protein mentions (I'm not recommending any single brand of protein)

to snack, or not to snack?

I think it depends on how you define a "snack". I eat 6 times a day...but it's about portion size and quality of choices. My NUT wants minimum of 64 oz of Protein, but more is suggested. Example day: Breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs or 1 scrambled egg with 1T mozz cheese. Snack (2 hours later): 6 oz Greek yogurt Lunch: tuna packet (2.6 oz) Snack: Protein Bar Dinner: Baked chicken 3 oz or so Snack: cheese stick and pickle I never eat after 8 pm I need all these in between "snacks" because otherwise I would never get in all my protein. Eating this way helps me not to snack poorly in choices. I don't think of it as snacking though, just part of my meals. If you mean snacking as in "potato chips, cake, etc" Nope...I mostly refrain entirely.
  3. No blended foods for me either! My diet plan went from liquids to soft proteins. During this phase I ate canned tuna, canned chicken, eggs, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, and plenty of feesh white fish.
  4. Hello,:-) today is my first day on this. I've been reading a lot of the posting and find them very helpful and very interesting. I'm learning how to use it so please be patient with me. :-) So here I am. My starting weigh 347 lbs. My surgery was on August 28,2012 and I'm feeling great! Yes it was hard to lose the weigh before surgery but I did it cause I was determine to get this done. I lost 30 pounds in 3 months. :-) Then after surgery I lost 13 more. I was in the hospital 2 days and I never felt any pain. I felt sorness but no pain. But I made sure to press that button every time that light turn on. So it was time to go home now. My sister picked me up and took me to her home and took care of me. Thank goodness for sisters :-) Stage 1 went good. Lots of broth, SF jello, SF Popsicles, decaff tea and water, water, water. Don't forget to sip. Stage 2 was good too. Still ate some of stage 1 stuff but now on pureed diet. (Low in fat and no sugar). I ate broil chicken, vegetables...really soft, egg, fruit and started drinking my protein shake. I went to Walmart and bought the Whey protein drinks because it has 52 grams. The strawberry and chocolate with peanut butter tastes pretty good. Now I'm on stage 3 a soft diet and still feeling good. Oh and remember to take your vitamins and minerals please. So...now I can start chewing my food...yay! Its still the same food & etc but I don't have to pureed. I'm still doing a little of stage 1 because I love jello, Popsicles and decaff tea. Today... I always start with my protein shake so I know I got my 52 grams to start the day. I added 1oz of banana in it...pretty good. Lunch I ate mozaralli string cheese with turkey rolled around the cheese. Snack-sf popsicle and for dinner I had a yogurt and if I get a little hungry later I'll eat a couple of pieces of fruit. I'm pretty much full all day. I have my doctor visit on the 24th of this month and ill have to do my blood work two days before to check if all is well...keeping my fingers crossed:-) . Well I hope I didn't bore you all with my story.

    ❤ 16 Months Post Op ❤

Its yogurt with gluten free granola mix on top (bakery on main, kind and dark chocolate chips)
  6. The funny thing, is that the dr has had me on meats since day 6. I try EVERYTHING. I have had problems only with crab so far (or it was a coincidance) I can eat eggs, bacon, chicken, beef, cheese, turkey, cereal (dr said high fiber) he has me off shakes and yogurt, but I went back to yogurt because I NEED a little something for when nothing else works. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. 7-10 weeks it take your belly to heal, So be careful that is a big cut and will need to be taken care of, Do not push it and just chill and let your body recover, I can say even today i still have issues with some foods, There is a big difference between Yogurt and Cottage Cheese and a 4oz piece of chicken, So i would lay low till atleast week 5 to make sure you are somewhat healed up. F@#ck Food - is my attitude
  8. I'm on day 7 and our stories and experiences sound similar. I too had hot sweats and very uncomfortable feeling. When I ate yogurt it seemed too heavy for my pouch and caused diarrhea. I have to stick to broth and warm tea. I even made pudding but I didn't react well to the milk. Some days I'm so tired, but I'm hoping tomorrow is better and want to get out of the house. Keep being positive. We can do this.
  9. My surgeon told me that I should start eating soft foods at this point. But, most of the time when I try something other than liquid (or yogurt, pudding, shake), it feels like there is a painful rock filling up my stomach. I had some french onion Soup which really just had pieces of boiled onion in it and a soggy crouton, but it hurt. I also tried thoroughly chewing a couple bites of toast. Same thing. I also have some nausea but haven't actually thrown up. So my question is whether this could be a stricture? Or is it just my stomach is particular sensitive and I need to let heal longer? Oddly, I've been able to eat some string cheese without a problem, but that's about it. So, I'm really hoping it's not a stricture.

    I'm in shock !!!

I do that too lynn, cut them into tiny pieces but not powder... some things can't or shouldn't be cut though. Some meds are made to dissolve at a specific dose rate and cutting them up means they either dissolve in a bad place and can cause irritation, or you can get too big a dose at once. Ask if you can get a liquid antibiotic, or if it's safe to cut it up. Be sure and up your yogurt consumption or get some acidophyllus chewables to prevent a yeast infection!
  11. I eat everything in moderation within reason. I ate a pancake with maple syrup for breakfast this morning, shock, horror! Not the wisest of choices nutritionally, but normally I have a good high fibre cereal or a yogurt. lunch is usually salad/meat combos - I was just at the shops and had a lamb kebab minus the pita bread, I had it in a bowl. Or a sandwich or wrap of some description. dinner is usually meat and 3 veg type meals.
  12. invest in unflavored protein powder..usual has low calories fat and sugar. Plus its easy to add it to everything. I add a tablespoon of it into my gravies, soups, sauces, yogurt, pudding etc. At first it wont seem like a lot but throughout the day it adds up. Just be careful not to add too much at a time or else you'll end up with a gross unbearable meal!

    Chocolates

I'm seven years out and I have truly awful sugar cravings at times. Eating properly is the key to preventing them getting really out of hand. i find with the band, I may not feel physical hunger, but my body knows that it's not had enough energy and nutrition. I mean, I might get up and run 8kms, get ready for work, get the kids ready, make the beds, put on a load of washing, feed the pets, tidy up, get to work, run a sport lesson, teach for the morning - all on half a cup of yogurt! Then I might grab a small tin of tuna and five or six crackers for lunch, perhaps somewhere in there I'll eat a piece of fruit. And then I wonder why I cave on the way home at 5.30 and call in at the supermarket for a feast of sugary carbs, and scoff an entire packet of biscuits before dinner? Stupid, when you think about it. PROPER meals during the day doesnt prevent the thoughts of late afternoon sugar for me, but it does make me able to resist. My 140lb active body cannot live on 500 calories for an entire day until dinner time! I dont get actually hungry, but my appetite gets out of control and I end up binging. I think a lot of bandsters seriously undereat. Yes, we want to lose, but if you want to lose fast and eat 800 calories a day AND exercise and never binge or pig out on bad foods, you're still going to need some serious willpower, because I dont think our bodies can be fooled for that long that we're underfeeding them. I had no trouble for the first year or two and then my body kind of wised up! Not that I havent managed to lose all of my weight and maintain that loss, but the cycle of undereating then binging is really not what the band is meant to encourage.

Nexium, Hunger and my 2 cents

Wow. I had not even thought about it until Oregon Daisy pointed it out. I don't have a prescription for Nexium, but have some Prilosec and Prevacid at home. Will start on that today. I had some greek yogurt an hour ago, and I am already 'hungry'/acid hungry'
  15. I'm too afraid to stray from my doctor's orders. So if he says 2 weeks of Clear Liquids, I'm doing it. I learned that applesauce is a clear liquid. What if you have some of that. I'll tell you, I can only eat half of the little motts container, and I have to save the rest for another time. Last night I ate a little too much, and I felt uncomfortable, just overfull.. didn't like it. I think the object is we don't want to make our stomachs have to work too hard to digest. Right now it's healing. Maybe I'm just overly cautious, but I'm not even going to THINK about a yogurt or mashed potato until Sunday!! I am looking forward to my stage 2 for the variety! Also.. I found Crystal Light popsicles at walmart. sugar free, cold, like a treat, I eat 2 a day usually. If your'e doing popsicles, make sure they are sugar free. and watch the ones in the grocery store that say no sugar added, cause even they have sugar alcohols in them, and you don't want that. Good luck!
  16. I am eating greek yogurt, Atkins shakes, High Protein oatmeal from Bariatric Choice, and High protein Soup I got from Bariatric choice. Frankly very tired of all of these things. Girl I would jump into mushies if I could!!! Maybe just try one new different mushie per day since you are concerned. Maybe that ricotta bake from eggface or something like that would be a good start!
  17. I had my gall bladder removed several yeqrs ago, pre VSG. For about 6 months post-op I was extremely lactose-intolerant. I couldn't even stomach a cup of yogurt. its not the same for everyone, of course, but something to be cautious of
  18. Thank you for your encouaging words Slenderella Kristikay I was supposed to lose 30lbs before surgery but I gained 10...I think the same thing, 6 months is a long time, my doctor only requested a week of yougurt, unsweetend applesauce, sugar free pudding, popsicles, skim milk, protein shakes and raw veggies, jello, but It's hard to do this when I've contantly got people around me eating McDonald's, Taco Bell, and 7-11....once I made up in my mind hey I'm going to do this regardless of what's being eaten around me, I felt a lot better, still a little PO'd but I'll get over it. Time to start losing this weight, we both will! My surgery is September the 27th, only 1 more day, and this day I can only consume liquids, nothing red and no yogurt or veggies, just broth and protein shakes and nothing after midnight Wednesday.

    Post-Op Banders

I am 13 days post-op and feeling wonderful! I know the pain of surgery varies from person to person, but I had minimal discomfort and was up and about the day of. I stopped pain meds after day 3 and went back to work in a restaurant within the week. I would absolutely recommend buying a travel pillow or one of those Peewee Pillowpet's. I bought the Pillowpet and it was definitely a lifesaver. I used it when getting in/out of cars, in/out of bed, and sometimes walking around if my tummy felt sore. The pressure helped to relieve any pain from moving. I also went overboard and bought a lot of broth and yogurt. I was allowed full liquids right after surgery, which included pureed Soups through a sieve, so I really lived on sugar free pudding, pureed soups, yogurts, and Protein Shakes. I actually tried SF Jello within the first few days, and something about the texture did not sit well with me. If I wanted something broth like, I used Lipton cup-a-soup cream of chicken, which was much more satisfying than broth alone. I also used peppermint tea the first few days post-op and can't say whether it helped with gas pains because I didn't get any til day 5 or 6, but it was definitely soothing. I did write a list on my blog of the things I bought, the things I actually used, and what I would recommend if I were to do it again. I am now on my puree/mushy stage, so I bought a Ninja kitchen pulse to send everything through.

    High protein preop diet

Curiosity: What does Greek yogurt taste like? Is it sold in specialty stores? And, what flavors/best tasting flavors? Last question: Can you add granola to the yogurt? Krys ____________________________________________

Lap Band Post Op Day 8

I find it how interesting Different Drs are after a week I was allowed mushy and believe it or not I'm so tired of yogurt and cottage cheese but it tasted like heaven when I 1st got to eat it, It's best to do what your Dr. wants in this phase they have their reasons even if we don't understand them.

Too Much? 6 days post op

What is your protein goal? When I was on clear and full liquids I didn't go to bed until I finished all my protein for the day. If you are short of your goal by all means have another shake or yogurt. Do what it takes to meet your goal.
