    First real foods

I hate eggs now so not much input on them, but when you put some real protein down that you have chewed you should get the fullness. I can eat 4-5 oz of yogurt or cottage cheese pretty easy, but a half cup of chicken feels like i swallowed a whole turkey. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  2. Fruit and veggies are BAD next choices...too much fiber in them. It's best to follow your doctor's advice and take reintroductions very slowly. When you need to move on to the next stage, the next foods are cream of wheat or oat meal thinned with skim milk or almond milk, sugar free pudding, creamed soups with the chunks strained out, or yogurt.

Just had the ESG as well

Hello again! I am almost 3 weeks out from my surgery (on 11/15). I hit my highest weight on 10/30 at 207.8 lbs and am down to 188.7, so almost 20 pounds lost in November. I was 202 before surgery, so 13.3 pounds since 11/15....not bad, but I feel like I am in a stall. I haven't felt any discomfort from the surgery at all. Nothing. Nada. The only way to tell that I have had the surgery is that I can eat much less. For two days prior to surgery and then the week following surgery, I was on only liquids. That was hard, but doable. Thanksgiving was 1 week post op and I was able to eat some butternut squash soup with a little crabcake mixed in. I also had home made cranberry sauce mixed with a little ricotta cheese. I do not believe in low fat diets at all (I follow Bulletproof and Mark Sisson of Mark's Daily Apple), so all my dairy is full fat - yogurt, milk, ricotta. Cutting out sugar is really no problem. Getting in enough protein is the biggest challenge since dense food doesn't feel good. I have diced chicken really small and mixed with broth or thinned out with yogurt or the butternut squash soup. I did eat some refried beans thinned with salsa. I am talking very small quantities - table spoons of things. Although I haven't had any pain, I am full with 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food at a sitting. This is both weird and wonderful. Since I was not all that hungry (I am assuming that is the effect of the surgery plus the ADD meds that I take) I have had a hard time getting in enough calories. I was averaging about 350 calories a day for the two weeks post surgery and then I hit a huge stall in my weightloss. In the past week, I have only lost 2 pounds. The nutritionist said I was in starvation mode, so I had to try and get in more quality calories, which I have been able to do. My sister had the same situation happen, so she just added in shakes. As I mentioned in my previous post, she had more trouble than I. She has been uncomfortable (apparently she bled more in the actual surgery and has more swelling. She and I have always healed differently, so this is just par for the course for her.) She has been able to puree some Atkins meals and is satisfied with that. She has had a much harder time wrapping her head around the smaller meals and dietary changes. I have given up sugar and carbs completely many times and can live quite happily that way, she is a carb addict and a bad dieter (her own words!) LOL. She laughed and said that she has never lasted this long on a diet. It is hard, but we are both happy with the decision. They keep saying " This is a tool for weight loss, just a tool. You still need to do the work." and I am looking at it that way. The diet still needs to change. I had to walk away from all the desserts on Thanksgiving. (Did I mention that I served an extraordinary sit-down dinner for 20 on that day? I cooked everything, including home made bread!) I was happy to be able to eat less and not be driven back to the kitchen all day long. I think that using contrave, belviq or Vyvanse is still helpful post surgery to help get the brain wrapped around all of thie
  5. Oh my, I would love have loved a lean cuisine at the beginning. My diet consists of 3 protein shakes per day, up to 2 "snacks" (like 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt or 1/2 cup low fat cream soup, 1/2 cup no-sugar-added applesauce, or, if I'm feeling particularly famished, 4 oz pure fruit juice), and unlimited sugar-free, zero-calorie liquids (like crystal light, broth, Propel Zero, etc.). I go to clear liquids the whole day before surgery, and then on the day of surgery just water from midnight to 7am (my surgery is at 11am). So far I'm surviving. When I remember to have my 3 protein shakes per day, and space them out at regular intervals, as well as take advantage of the two snacks per day (yogurt is the most filling) my hunger is much better controlled.

    Fast food

That sounds perfect. And I used to do Greek yogurt or avocado instead of mayo for chicken salad

    Always hungry

The Yogurt will fill you up less than a dense protein.

    Always hungry

Yess because I’m hungry so much I’m scared to eat an actual meal so I just stick to the Greek yogurts And I may eat a piece of fish or chicken but that’s honestly it.
  9. I’ve gone down a whole pant size since my surgery 10/23 haven’t been weighing myself cause I’m scared it will get to my head so I’m fine with that, But I am ALWAYSSSSS HUNGRY, I drink water or will eat a yogurt. If I do eat a small meal it lasts for about 3 hours before I’m hungry again, how normal is this, and does anyone have any meal ideas that last or is this just because I’m still in early healing stages?
  10. I’m pretty good. Came home last night bc I was doing so well. Slept better but missing the hospItAl chair. Wish I would have thought of renting one for a week. Also can’t pick up anything. How long does that last. Overall eating is decent but do feel bloated today. Had 2 shakes yesterday. Veggie soup with protein and a little yogurt.
  11. I was sleeved on the 30th. Actually gained 2 lbs so must be from surgery. belly fells bloated. Day of surgery water and 1st day post op was full liquids. Drank 2 shakes. Protein veggie soup and Little yogurt and water. Stayed one night bc was feeling pretty good and walking a lot. 1st day home has been ok. So challenging to get in all the requirements. So far had one shake. One glass of water and 4 oz of Greek yogurt. Will get one more shake and one more water. They want me to strive for 64 oz of fluids but understand if I can’t the first few days.
  12. I'm where u are but yogurt is to thick for me to eat. I had stomach pain but Prevacid took care of that. Feel week but off pain meds now. How much have you lost. I'm down 14lbs!
  13. Hi everyone, hope you all are doing well. I have a few things I wanted to ask those who are where I am or beyond that may have experience with the same issues. My day of surgery I was allowed nothing by mouth. The next day I was allowed 1 oz of water per hour. Then starting yesterday for 2 weeks I'm allowed full liquids. Yesterday I mixed protein shake in my Greek yogurt because I'm told everything must be the consistency of milk and able to roll off the spoon. I maybe was able to take in 4 bites of yogurt, and drank half a premier protein and water all day yesterday. Today I haven't "eaten" anything. I've been sipping water and sucked on 2 sugar free popsicles (surprisingly felt great). What is everyone else doing at this time? As far as how I feel....I'm in Pain but not really taking much medication. My abdomen is extremely swollen especially my left side which is also bruised and very swollen. I'm dizzy intermittently which tells me I need more water. How long does it take for the swelling in the abdomen to decrease. I guess I need reassurance that what I'm experiencing is normal.

    November sleevers here

My first week I would measure everything in 2oz servings into a small glass or little condiment-like bowl. I kept an eye on my clock on the wall and knew that I needed to finish those 2oz each 15 mins. Sometimes I would substitute 2oz of jello just to have some mouth feel. That got me on track very quickly. At the top of every hour the 2oz were protein drinks - either isopure the first 3 days, or premier protein once I moved to thick liquids. I stopped measuring on week 2 as I know how much I can sip. I know I can take 1oz sips now and do my 2-3oz in just a matter of a couple minutes at the most. I am still hitting the top of the hour with protein, although now I can mix in hummus, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. It is very easy to slip and get distracted and lose track of time. Just keep on it. The more you set a schedule and routine early on, the easier it is to keep up with and will establish automatic reminders for yourself.

    3 weeks

I am four weeks out. Have been on soft foods since week 2. My diet includes: ground turkey, chicken, eggs, cheese, high protein yogurt, cauliflower crust pizza, turkey jerky, refried beans, cottage cheese, protein shakes (one a day), peaches, banana & egg pancakes (mash one banana with one egg and some baking powder), chicken sausages, chicken salad. Today I get to start introducing other foods and can have anything my body tolerates. Of course that's eating your protein first then veggie. 1/2 cup at a time.
  17. It depends on my day or mood. Also depends on if I’m at work. Work days I eat at 6:45am. I eat protein first. That could be a yogurt or egg or oatmeal or even chicken. Lunch I can eat a salad or chicken and a vegetable and same for lunch. I eat my last meal around 7 or 8pm. I eat three meals and two snacks. I have coffee early in the morning. Small portions are s key. I do cheat sometimes. I don’t deprive myself of anything. I have my lemon drop cookies. I even have my chicken strips from Popeyes. My cat [emoji250] helps me eat those. Lol

  19. I am 15 days post opp. Highest weight: 326, Weight day of surgery: 316, and current weight: 291. It has been a rocky road so far. Surgery went smooth. Very little to no pain. The problem is that I can not get my fluids in nor 80 gs protein in. I am weak, no energy, and very little drive to do anything. I went back to work three days ago. I work at a desk in a very busy office. Getting back to work has actually helped. Just the small amount of moving around the office and interacting with others. I have found that my tailbone is starting to hurt. I also am having trouble sleeping at night. My primary care doctor called me in a prescription to help with that. I lost a good amount of weight the first week. I was at 316 the day of surgery and made it down to 290. Today I weighed 291. So I actually gained a pound. I am already stuck! The only thing I have been eating is small amounts of blended soup, Premier Protein shakes, Greek Yogurt, jello, pop cycles, crystal light, Gator-aid G2, and water. Very small amounts. My surgeon has told me to wait until, 30 days post opp to start taking vitamins and calcium. My activity has increased the last four days. The mornings are the worst. It is hard to get up and moving. Taking a shower and getting dressed is like running a marathon. It gets better as the day progresses. By 5:00 PM I am ready for bed. Any help, advice, or encouragement will be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Mike

    Nov 10 bypass

I had my surgery on November 8th so I am at the same stage as you. I'm so burnt out on cottage cheese, yogurt, and soup. I lost 17 lbs at my 1 week post op weigh in and haven't lost anything else. I'm frustrated since I am only eating 4 - 500 calories a day, walking for an hour, and doing the modified T25 workouts every day. From what I have read it is "normal" to stall around this time although I just don't get why it would be normal. Are you still losing?

I’ve regained ALL the weight back 😢♀️

Ya. Today for breakfast coffee and milk ( I hate breakfast). lunch I had 1/2 a bar and bag protein chips. After work a handful of almonds. Dinner was 3 oz meat sauce over a few tablespoons of quinoa. Snack after dinner was 1/2 a protein bar. Total 43 carbs, 53 protein, 700 calories I need protein bars and other protein items because I don’t always have a lunch break. I wouldn’t call a bar and yogurt with some granola at night a problem. It could be worse! The donuts and eating your kids’ food ya a prob. I’m a snacker. I’d rather eat 6 small snacks than 3 meals- I can’t eat that much protein at one sitting so I get hungry quickly.

    Upcoming surgery

Hi. I didn't exercise one bit. But many people do. I dont make recipes to be honest with you . And I wouldn't worry about that yet as you will have to try little bits of things to see what you can tolerate for your tummy aswell as your changing taste buds. I eat simple Protein. Fish meatballs steak eggs occasionally bacon I pair it with a veg Spinach. Cucumber . Lettuce tomatoes And sometimes dairy Like cheese I ate cottage cheese alot at first now it makes me feel sick. I can't seem to enjoy yogurt either. In terms of carbs my plan isn't low carb so can't quite help you there but I didn't have mash potatoes till a few months post. You can make colliflouwer mash as you suggested. Any other questions? Im happy to help though I only have four months experience lol I remember being so nervous. But I'm so glad I did it. 25. 7 days down, 7 to go. Having surgery on December 5. I'm the first surgery in the morning. My liquid diet has sucked. No way to sugar coat that. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I'm incredibly hungry and angry. LOL. And my brain doesn't work. Really horrific brain fog. When you cut out all carbs and sugar, your liver has to kick into gear and make sugar for your body through a process called gluconeogenesis. You NEED glucose in your blood for basic functions. In particular, your brain needs glucose to function. When you're glucose deprived, it can be hard to concentrate, you can need extra effort for decisions, your impulse -control can be worse, and your emotions can be out of whack. I can attest to all of this being true. I'm forgetting everything. I feel foggy, and like I have to concentrate harder to stay on task. Have had headaches on and off and felt really tired. And did I mention I'm really grumpy? Like...really grumpy, and weepy, and kinda...unhinged. (more so than usual!) My particular diet is 5 shakes, sugar free popcicles, sugar free jello, broth, and one 100 calorie serving of either cream of wheat or yogurt per day....for two weeks. Here's a tip: If you're on this diet? Save your one item with carbs (the yogurt or cream of wheat) for just before you have to drive. You'll be more clear headed while driving, and drive safer. I kept forgetting how many shakes I'd had, so I put five clothespins on my kitchen curtains and moved them over to the other side as I drank my shakes. No second guessing that way. It helped. You do lose weight rapidly. I've lost about a pound a day. But again...this sucks so much. LOL. My previous wonderful low fat, low carb, calorie restricted diet seems decadent and indulgent by comparison. I miss my diet food. It was delicious and I'll never take it for granted again. I do feel more prepared for the psychological effects of the post-surgical diet. I already know how hard it is not to eat anything solid...and what weird things not eating carbs can do to your brain. I know how different I feel with my liver making all the sugar I need....and that I'm emotionally pretty raw. I've never done anything like this in my life, and it's pretty intense. While I really hate this diet....there is a certain comfort in knowing I won't be facing these changes for the first time right after surgery. I think it would add stress at a time I want to keep stress at bay as much as possible. I'll have my hands full with learning to stay hydrated. Tomorrow will be the eighth day...over the first hill, and on my way down the slope to surgery...I'm halfway home. Then another couple of weeks until mushy foods get reintroduced. I really never put together that I'd be in starvation mode for over a month. This is one of the hardest things I've ever done.
