How is weight loss for people over 50?

I haven't really had any NSV. When I first got banded and lost 22 lbs from 4 weeks of liquids, I pulled out a pair of pants that had been tight on me. I started wearing those and I can still wear them. Nobody has noticed that I have lost weight. I have only lost 5 lbs in the last 3 months, so I can see why nobody has noticed.

You know, sometimes you don't realize you've experienced a NSV right away but then it dawns on you.... Just a few minutes ago, I was on my work laptop just to check my messages because I took yesterday off as a personal day. So, I'm sitting on the couch and reading/writing emails when it occurs to me that my laptop actually fits on my lap. It's sitting perfectly level on my lap...and not up on my belly as it used to. Hallelujah....another drop in the 'I'm normal' bucket.

LOVE all of these!!!! My NSV's are *Went from 5-6 shots a day for diabetes to 1 (ONE!!!!) *From taking 2 orals meds to 1, all for diabetes *Crossing my legs *Bending over to tie my shoes or my son's without getting red in the face or feel like I will pass out *Having my heart rate drop from the 80's to the 60's *NOT feeling like everyone was looking at me thinking how big I was every time I was in public *Buying cuter clothes *Sweating because I want to not because it just occurs naturally from doing not much of anything *Being able to sit like a kid on my couch (ie feet hiked up, knees near my chest kind of thing). Finding at least one picture that I think, 'thats not so bad' instead of any photo of myself making me sick to my stomach That is just a few!!! Can't wait to have many, many more!!!!

I have another NSV relating to clothes & sizes - yesterday I go (with my husband) to Dress Barn. I was looking for skinny jeans (my 1st pair-lol). They have a plus side & a "regular" side. So I go over to the plus side and grab a 16 and I told the little girl working in there - I swear if these fit me I'm going to be balled up crying on the floor. I told her that I had wls recently and I've been losing weight & I don't know my size. Well They fit! And I come out of the dressing room and the little girl was like I think you can fit in the size 16 on the other side. So she goes over to the other side & sure enough all of the ones she picked out fit! My husband was saying "see you don't have to be on the "other side" anymore (meaning the PLUS size). So I got a pair of skinny jeans in a regular 16!!! I used to wear a 22W - 3 months ago! I got so emotional. Recently the office manager was talking to me about my body changing. I told her that I was still overweight and that I needed to lose more weight. She said "you aren't seeing yourself like everyone else sees you, you honestly look like you've lost half of what you were." Well - right now I still see myself as being that overweight person because I was her for so long. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. I'm happy and this is what I want more than anything, but I think that my mind is my old size and my body has changed but my mind doesn't know it yet? I can't be the only one that feels this way. Sorry - ranting...

Maybe the BMI is a scale victory but I have plenty of NSV's... loving myself in photo's again, towels that fit, all the clothes in my closet that are falling off and the belt that I'm wearing today needs a hole added because its too big!! I love my band!!

Oh my god, that is hilarious HealthyNewMe! I was already feeling a little weepy from reading some other wonderful posts and now I'm laughing crying! Oh, that's my bottom! And Pink Dahlia, what a great NSV, you skinny thing you. KC Gal, our scale is positioned with a huge mirror off to the left. I stand on the scale and check out my pooh bear profile and now I notice if I really suck it in I can see those numbers down there, too. Total victory over the scale in an NSV kind of way. Shazam, hope school is going well -- and enjoy that jacket. So nice to be in "normal" sizes, isn't it? Yippee!

Yes, you are right. There's a stigma with being overweight. One of the things that pushed me over the edge and made me decide to do this - was during the summer my husband worked out of state and me & the kids went to visit and he introduced me to a guy that he was working with - I was so embarrassed. I felt I looked terrible. My husband never said a word about me being overweight. So - this story does have an NSV - since I have lost almost 40 pounds he comments on me every single day about how good I look!

My first NSV I have been reading a lot of nsv in this tread and most of them are happening to me too, the one that really surprise me was this one, I was shopping yesturday and I always wants to buy color bracelets with matching earrings when I shop for my vacation stufs but the bracelets were always to small for me and I always tell my friend that those bracelets are made for skinny people only but yesturday I tried one that it look nice knowing that will not fit like always but IT DID and I start trying all of them and all fit, I was so happy and surprise that i called my husband to check how they look in my hand, It was my first time in years that I was able to purchase one of those bracelets!!!!!

NSV. Walked into a restaurant bathroom last night and was faced with the big handicap stall and the "small" stall. Almost went to the big one when I realized I now have room to move around in the smaller one. It's awesome feeling "normal."

Today's NSV is not only having to put a belt on to hold up these size 42 jeans but the belt being so long it wraps 1.5 times around my body LOL

Of the TONS of reasons I'm happy with my decision to get the band, not hiding from the camera is a major NSV that strokes the "vanity" part of my ego the most.

Went to dinner tonight with my BFF and she asked me if I had on make-up, I said no. She said what do you have on your face then, I said nothing! She called me a liar!! I had a take a napkin and wipe my face so that she could see there was nothing on my face!! One of my NSV is my skin complexion, especially my face! Thanks to eating healthy, drinking PLENTY of water and of course my Mary Kay cleanser and moisturizer my skin is looking like I'm wearing foundation when I'm not! My class went on a field trip to the zoo last Friday and I thought I was gonna walk right out of my jeans! Had to keep pulling them up and folding them down but they were still too loose. Only 33 lbs down so far but I'm loving all the "extras" that come with it!

My NSV today: I have to wear hospital scrubs at work. The trim is colored by size. How embarrassing. Well, they go up to a 2X which is pink. And then, because apparently fat people don't want clothes that fit, they skip to brown, which is a 5x. I managed to still squeeze into a pink top, but I was wearing brown pants. Which were way too big. Today I fit into the pink 2X pants! Yay!!! Side note: If it's ok to only provide two sizes for fat people (2x and 5x), then why don't they throw away the smalls and meduims and make them all wear larges? I have always thought this is fat discrimination!

I had a NSV yesterday, usually when I go jogging I usually have to walk for a small amount and then start jogging again. I do that about every 10 minutes. Well yesterday I jogged for 40 minutes without walking. I was so proud of myself. I also had the undies issue a few weeks ago. I was wearing a size 10 at the time. I was changing into another outfit and my husband started laughing and said I needed to go shopping. They were so big on me and I didn't even notice. Wearing size 8 now.

Don't quite know how to explain this is as a NSV but I hug people. A lot and often and even ones that I'm merely an acquaintance with.

Again I had to work at another store for 3 days and most of the girls I work with new me cause I have worked with them before well some of them hadn't seen me in a yr , so when each one of them saw me at different ties they we're like wow you have lost a lot of weight you, can see it in your face , breast and backside , each time we all laughed but I guess this was my latest nsv I still have the fat goggles on so I don't see it but I guess others will let me know and that's ok with me just encourages me more that I am doing the right thing with the help from my tool (band) ,

Another NSV is doing all my running around and finishing, not like before I had to quit because I was tired. Today, after work I came home cut the grass, made dinner, dishes, and even made homemade Gluten Free Brownies for my son who has Celiac...!!!! And now I'm going to playing his favorite card game!!! Yeah, this would have taken me a week ack in the day!!
  20. I am 16 months out and down 140 lbs. I went from 334 to 194 and LOVE IT! It has been brought to my attention that I no longer look like the woman I used to be. Some say I look younger, others say it looks like it could be my sister but definitely not me.. I love it! I feel like a different person too. There are so many things I can do that I never did before (as I sit with my knees to my chest on the couch comfortably while typing this... ummm can you say MAJOR NSV?????) I would like to lose another 10 lbs or so but I am totally happy where I am now. Feel free to share your face to face pictures below!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. @@QueenBeeBee 113.2? You must be stoked! As for the NSV, that's great!! I remember that feeling, sooooo good!! The next big event in the family is my 21st at the end of March, I plan on dropping jaws I've been eating so well the last 3 weeks and I had a bad day about 3 days ago and I've felt like crap ever since.. I was so sure I would of gained, got on the scales this morning cos its a week since I did last.. 100g grams gone.. LOL so relieved.. Definitely shocked me back into eating better.. I'm just so happy that I woke up the next morning and started eating properly again. I know a day off every now and then is normal/good but I actually shat myself.. hahahahh

    Feeling defeated

Thank you @Jeanne. I will. Today I’m better emotionally. I was just completely overwhelmed yesterday that the scale didn’t move again. It’s been a few weeks with no change. I’m trying to focus on NSV as someone told me yesterday. It’s been hard but I’m determined to stay positive and see it through.

    What a day!

I'm really pleased for you. It's great when the numbers show success, as well as the NSVs. Good luck to you.
  24. I've had enough of the demon scales! I realized this morning that I was falling back into my old addictive ways of obsessing about my weight...this happens every time I'm on a "diet". Every day starts something like this...get up, get on the scale, if weight is up feel depressed and a failure, if the weight is down, euphoria. I know it is not logical and I know that there are fluctuations, but the lapband was about taking control of my life. It's not a diet and it's not short term, so starting today I will not let the scales rule me. I've put them on a very high shelf in the garage and will only get them out one day each month when I have to weigh and call the doc with my progress. I do have goals though: my long-term goals are to comfortably wear a size 8, be able to ride a bicycle for 50 miles and to be in good enough shape to be able to go trekking on the Inca trail in Peru by my 46th birthday. Thanks for listening...I really missed you guys while the server was down!
