    Stall

The same thing happened to me, the 3 week stall, lasted almost a week. It does make you wonder if you'll lose anything else but keep following the program and it will happen. Your body is trying to regulate itself is all.

    Stall

I had gastric bypass 4/19 and hit my first stall. I know this happens and was prepared by my medical team to expect it but I’m still worried. My personal experience has been SO easy, I’m almost worried this is the other shoe to drop, so to speak, and 20lbs is all I’ll lose after surgery. Thoughts?
  3. My hair loss happened around month 3 & it was insane BUT I kept up with my vitamins & protein & it stopped after about a month after. I did not need any special hair suppliments or anything like that. Being properly nourished took care of that issue for me. I'm 8 months out & haven't felt with any abnormal hair loss since
  4. I felt pain for about a week after, specifically around the incision next to my belly button since that's where they pulled the stomach out from & the muscle soreness was pretty crazy. I wonder if that's what your feeling?

    Weight stall 7 days PO

The same thing happened to me. It was so frustrating. Just remember… you had major surgery, your body is healing and trying to balance everything for homeostasis, and you’re still in the process of rebuilding energy stores around your liver. My stall broke a couple days into week 2 and came back a week later 😭 lol it felt like I couldn’t win, but here I am 24lbs lost and still going with mini stalls every week for a few days or so. Eventually, they break. Remember the science…if you’re taking in less than you burn while resting, you will lose weight. Just remember to get all your protein and water right now. Be easy on yourself!

Hair Loss (Tips & Advice please)

Hi there, hair loss can be really scary, especially when you’re already in a fragile state after surgery. Before surgery, I talked to my hairstylist and doctor to understand what was coming and how to deal with it. Here are some of the tips they gave me: 1. Get all of your protein 2. Take your multivitamins religiously 3. Keep your scalp clean and healthy 4. Don’t use harsh shampoos. Use fragrance free, low lather, low chemical shampoos 5. Wear your hair loose. Avoid tight pony tails or braids etc 6. Keep your hair out of the sun to avoid UV damage 7. Use a wide tooth comb to brush your hair, and be gentle. Use natural bristles if using a brush 8. Reduce your overall stress (meditation, relaxation techniques, etc can help). Stress itself is one of the biggest contributors 9. if your hair seems brittle, try coconut oil or olive oil. Just be careful not to over wash afterward (oily hair can perturb some) 10. accelerate new growth with vitamins, biotin, etc. they won’t prevent loss but they can help regrowth I hope some of this was helpful. Good luck to you and remember it’s only temporary! 🍀☺️
  7. The first week is tough. I was able to get up and walk to the restroom and around the house a little before sitting back down again. By week 2, I could be up and walking for 10-15. Give yourself the downtime you need right now and don’t stress too much. You’ll be up again in no time so long as you don’t go beyond the limits your body is telling you to stay at good luck!
  8. Encouraged to read these replies- I am traveling to Europe for the entire month of June, so am a bit worried about access to some of the high protein items I currently use to up my protein- im still drinking one shake a day to get my protein in— and am still hovering about 60gP a day. Just can’t eat enough to get there without the shake yet. I feel like London and Paris (not sure why I think that?) will have some options, but am concerned about Amsterdam/Cologne/all of Italy— I haven’t found a powdered shake mix I like yet. Im just at 8 weeks today, and when I leave i will be at 12 weeks. Ive tried a few bars, but ugh. Im not thinking i will starve by any means, but want to be sure i am getting my protein in for sure. Luckily meat/eggs/cheese have been my friend.
  9. Nice progress! I’m hoping this coming week goes by quick.

    Gastric sleeve post op pain

I had the surgery 2 weeks ago. The first week was the hardest. After that it got tolerable, and by the 2 week mark I only have tenderness at the incision sites. Last week I started being able to walk about a quarter mile comfortably, so I am getting there. Good luck!

    Full or gas?

Pain under your rib means it’s more likely surgical gas. This gas isn’t in your tummy & digestive system (like gas you burp or eventually fart out) but in the abdominal cavity - the space around your organs. It rises up behind your lungs, putting pressure on nerve endings hence the shoulder & likely your pain behind your ribs. It’s then absorbed into the lungs & you breath it out (that’s why walking, marching on the spot, deep breathing, lifting your arms up & down all help you breath more out). It usually takes about a week +/- to fully go.

    Swelling?

It took at least 2 weeks before my swelling started to abate. I found it frustrating at the time. It will come.

    May 2023 surgeries

Had my RNY on 5/3/23. I won’t sugar coat it, I’ve been in extreme pain. Mainly from my incision sites. Thankfully I haven’t had any nausea and I have been passing the gas fairly well. Took a while though. Like Lindsay said, walking around helps. Also taking a shower helps too. Good luck to everyone

I hope tomorrow is a better day. @ajrp001 great to hear from you! Wishing you a continued great recovery! Lots of us having surgery next week! I'm definitely starting to feel the nerves but am so excited.
  16. Yeah, you are way early on. I don't think I thought about food until a few weeks later. Main thing to really work on right now is to stay hydrated. Unfortunately for many, taste buds are often skewed for awhile. The protein and everything else will fall into place as you heal. Feel better soon. Congrats on your surgery.

Thanks. I'm doing OK, but not great. Everything tastes nasty, the liquid meds are awful, the pain comes and goes, but manageable. It's been a hard week to be honest.

I just want something that tastes good

You're still in the throw's of dealing with surgical medications with which they put into you, such as anesthesia. Theis can mess with your taste buds dramatically for a week or two, longer for some folks. Thus, I suggest you keep trying your favorites. You're no worse off than you are now, with a better possibility of success in drinking. Also, pay attention to what you think you may like at the moment, even something for which you never cared. This actually worked for me: For some weird reason I had a sense that something I never liked might taste good, and lo! I gave it a shot and I very much enjoyed it, and it still remains something I drink often. When all else fails, water may be what works. Again, I was never a fan of water as it upset my stomach when I drank water in any appreciable quantity. Post-op, in trying to figure something out, for whatever reason water worked well. No one was more surprised than me. Keep an open mind and keep working at it until all the anesthesia and other drugs leave your system. Fluids may help flushing the stuff out of your system. Hang in there. Good luck, Tek
  21. I'm 3 days post op and NOTHING tastes good. I dread drinking anything. I'm so miserable.

    Little to no weightloss

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I spoke to the dietician today, who agreed my weigthloss is on the much slower side. I asked what my pre op weight was as I thought it was 21 stone 9 but it was 21 stone 4. This has really hit me hard. After 3 weeks post off when I weighed myself and thinking I hadn’t lost any, I was actually 5lb heavier. So really I have lost 14lb in 11 weeks. It’s just not good enough and my mental health has taken a huge nose dive. I suffer from CPTSD and this really isn’t helping. 14lb in 11 weeks. It’s an absolute joke. I can’t handle another week of looking at the scales and them staying the same. The surgery just doesn’t work for some people and unfortunately I’m in that bracket. I can lose 14lb in 1-2 weeks with my previous methods and what made me gain weight after that was the dreaded cycle of habit and yo yo dieting. At least the surgery has given me the tool to not be able to go back to old habits. I really appreciate everyone taking the time to reply to me. Thank you. Good luck to everyone on your journeys x

  24. Hey all. I'm 3 days post-op and can't feel the difference between trapped gas and being full. What should I be looking for? The trapped gas has improved a lot, but I still have an uncomfortable feeling under my left rib cage. I'm shooting for an ounce of liquid every 10-15 minutes. I also have to use a spoon full of applesauce to get some of my medication down.
