    Just shoot me!

Babs you are probably gaining muscle. Also, Chinese sometimes causes Water weight gain. I wouldn't worry about it so much right now, wait for a few days and try again. Maybe your body is telling you that this is the perfect weight for you also.
  2. I got the band 3 years ago. It was great the first year. I lost 60lbs, had great restriction, and felt like myself for the first time in a long time! I started getting reflux at night, waking me up w/ bile or acid in my mouth, as well as asperating into my lungs. This caused a persistent cough. I saw the P.A. at my dr's office. An esophagram showed nothing unusual. They advised me to stop eating 3 hours before bed and take reflux meds. I got pg w/ 2nd baby, got a slight unfill, reflux systems subsided and pg was great (w/o the excessive weight gain from 1st pg w/o band). As soon as baby was born, my reflux symptoms intensified so that I could not sleep at all. Anyone w/ a newborn knows this is torture! Dr. Ren unfilled me and had me get an endoscopy. Turns out I have a hiatal hernia (stomach tissue coming up through the band). I wanted to avoid another surgery, as My Dr. was not sure the hernia was causing the reflux and surgery would not necessarily improve the reflux. I waited and now she says that the placement of my band is probably causing the reflux. She said people who have the band placed higher up on their stomachs tend not to have this symptom. So I am scheduled to have the hernia repaired and the band repositioned later this month. I am awaiting insurance approval. I have been struggling w/ eating all year and even went back on weight watchers for a couple of months. I am hopeful everything will work out after the surgery (and that the approval will go through!). Has anyone had experience w/ re-positioning of the band? Thank you!

  4. I'm so angry with myself. I had my surgery June 14th and the last few weeks I've been doing really bad. I work out and I eat well all day, but at night I lose all control and I stuff my face. I was on medication for binge eating disorder and they took me off of it along with all my antidepressants. I ended up in the hospital a few weeks ago with pneumonia and they didn't like the fact I'm tachycardic so they took me off everything. I feel the depression sinking in and losing my motivation and willpower. I feel trapped. I can't even get in to see my psychiatrist for another few weeks. Has anyone lost their motivation this early, but found it again? Also my psychiatrist knows very little about meds after surgery is anyone here on meds post surgery that doesn't have weight gain as a side effect? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. I saw the surgeon today and starting the process. My insurance covers this however, they require certain criteria. I was told I need a diet history for the last 6 months. I am not sure what all is needed. Can someone help me write this...what details do they want etc. For example..all I can say is tried Xenical for 3 months..didn't work...didn't loose any weight...gained weight later.. But I think they want more than that. Does anyone know how this should be written. Thanks
  6. My major health concern is my hypoglycemia. I am quite learned in how to control it with a high-Protein diet, eating every 2-3 hours, etc. (I've had it for 30 years!) And having to eat protein (with the usual associated fat) so often has contributed to my consistent weight gain over the years. I'm not an emotional eater, except that I am very emotional about avoiding low blood sugar!! I am quite sure that the band will allow me to regulate my blood sugar without so much food intake and will keep the frequent hunger pangs at bay. Am I on the right track here? How has the band affected your hypoglycemia and your ability to control it? How do you normally control it, with protein or with sugar (carbs)? Your input is really appreciated.

    Purging your clothing

I agree on pants first. I was a 44" waist and didn't buy new pants until I was down 50 lbs. I bought 40's, 38's, and now 36's. I was a discount store shopper and never spent more than $25 on pants. I did TOTAL PURGES at goal. Gave away eight 55 gallon trash bags full of clothes. Looking back at my pre-wls weight gains, I never averaged more than 2-3 lbs a year, so I figure I'm 5+ years away from 38's worst case!
  8. I am 7 weeks an I was sleveed 17 months ago so my weight had pretty much stabalized. I was 180 when I found out I was carrying 3 weeks ago last week I was up 5 pounds to 185 an as of today Im down three pounds 182. I have no morning sickness so not sure of the reason for the loss. I was told 15 to 20 pounds so well see. I snack all day because Im always hungry but I am mindful of what I eat an I still cant eat alot so I also continue to work out when I can keep my eyes open lol just to stay on top of the weight gain. Congrats all its nice to know im not alone.

    Post sleeve weight gain

Sorry, to the success stories in this forum, In my defense I did search for the topic post sleeve “weight gain” & I was hoping for possible stories I could relate to, y’all all sound so successful so I’ll bounce out of this forum. but Much continued success to you all!

The sleeve has made me a snacker.

I was a grazer before surgery and could still eat constantly if I let myself. There isn't anything wrong with snacking per se, but for those of us who eat w/o being hungry, it can be a problem. If I can fit in 500 calories into my pouch and eat 3X a day, then I'm at 1500 calories and pretty much OK. If I eat 6X times a day and still go for 500 calories per meal, then I have a problem. Some people modulate how much they eat when they eat more frequently. Sadly, this was never the case for me. You are almost 10 lbs below goal now, so the snacking doesn't seem to be hurting you. A word of caution, though. I can eat a lot more now than I could at 1 year or even two years out. If the same ends up being true for you, the snacking will lead to weight gain.
  11. hi so its been awhile since ive posted,im 13weeks prego, ive lost 6lbs due to morning sickness... other mommys have put on 3,6 or even 8lbs but i keep in mind tht im sleeved nd dont eat as much as they do... my question is how much weight did you sleeved mommys gain during pregnancy?.. i snack often nd keep hydrated...i wrk a 12hr shift but sleep most of the day on my days off... im not on a diet but do make healthy choice at time... also nxt week would be a year post op frm surgery..so i got prego around 9mnths out..
  12. Hello all! I was referred to this forum by a friend who went through the surgery last year. I went under the knife on April 25th this year, and am so far very happy with the results. My doctor was Frank Veninga in North Dallas Texas. I think they did a great job despite me being a very difficult case. I am not small by any means (385 and 5'10" prior to surgery) so I had a ton of muscle and fat in the abdominal area. So far the only issues I have had are with the incision sites. It seems that one got slightly infected, and then the largest one where they placed my port has been weeping a bit. All seems to have cleared up though:thumbup: but now I have a peice of stitch coming out of the scar - keeps on hanging on stuff:rolleyes2:. My only regret was not getting this done sooner. I have pretty much settled back into a regular diet (not necessarily a good thing) and am afraid I am eating way too much. But then again, he had to remove all the Fluid in mine (even the 1cc that is in there to begin with) just so I could swallow after surgery. My first fill date is June 2nd - and I am anticipating great results. I have been active all my life, and played soccer, baseball, basketball and football in High School. When I lived in South Texas I would go hiking almost every weekend. But despite being active, I have also always been overweight. My weight gain reached a crest when I needed back surgery and injured my knee. Prior to surgery I was a hefty 385. I have lost about 20-25 lbs to date (mostly from the pre-surgery diet:unsure:). I am limited in my choices as far as career go right now - but my plans are to loose the excess weight, get back into shape and go into law enforcement. That's been a dream of mine ever since I can remember. Glad to be here! And sorry for the novel:lol:

    Birth Control

I had my tubes tied but because of heavy periods the doctor put me on Yaz. That caused blood clots from my legs to travel into both lungs and almost killed me. So now the doctor put me on the Mirena and I haven't had a period since July of last year. No addl weight gain or any problems with it. I love it.

    TRULY NEED SERIOUS HELP

I am sorry for your loss. I lost my dad when I was only 6. Acceptance is the key regarding your weight gain. Don't be so hard on yourself. The same has happened to me and I have been soda free for about a month now. I found a wonderful Protein drink...syntrax nectar..that I love! I had been off of peotein drinks for a long time...sleeved in 2012...because they all tasted like crap to me. I eat good carbs and nothing white...no sugar. I am taking one minute at a time. I do not log my food...for me if I did that food would be all I thought about. I make sure I get my daily protein requirements in and good carbs too. I don't worry so much about the fat and I do not count calories. I also set a timer as to not drink anything 30 minutes after I eat. I am disabled, to look at me you would not know, so I get very little exercise. I love to walk but can't for very long. I have never liked exercising anyway. I am about 25 lbs from where I want to be. Lost 125 lbs and gained 20+ back due to some meds that I no longer take and doing things I was not supposed to do. Hope this helps. Arrrggghhhhh!!! I'm not losing!!!

I think it would help you to remind yourself that "weight" and "fat" aren't the same thing. Your weight is your hair, skin, and everything wrapped up inside of it. This includes fat, but is not an accurate representation of the amount of fat on your body. No joke - I can vary as much as 15 lbs in the same day. If you have sudden weight gain, large or small, 99.99999% of the time the answer is Water. People just don't gain fat pounds overnight, especially not banded people. But they freak out when they see the difference in the scale numbers, and assume they're now 4 pounds FATTER instead of jsut being 4 pounds HEAVIER. Big difference. So to answer your question about your weight gain - it's probably water. It's probably not fat. And your body can't sustain constant weightloss. It needs to readjust to what's going on (insert long explanation about glycogen stores and metabolism here). If you're setting yourself up to see or epxpecting a scale change every day, you're going to have lots of disappointment. You've alreaydy talked about the scale addiction. scales really are the WORST way of tracking fat loss. BTW, this is exactly what kills so many diets. People deprive themselves, and feel deprived, and then see no or negative changes on the scale and say, "Well F it, if I'm giving all this up and gaining weight anyway, then I'm just going to eat what I want!" -- and do just that, when a little more patience and persistence would have shown that the body was just adjusting and the loss was queued.
  16. I have stayed at the same weight for over 4 weeks. The scale varies very little. I joined a Zumba class and add modest treadmill but have yet to see their impact. I will have my 3 month check up a bit late, maybe at 3.5 months out, so my concerns might be answered then, but is there a chance that this is the best it gets? Could I have already passed the honeymoon stage in first 8 weeks? I would have laughed at a post such as this if I had not written it myself.... While not stellar with diet, calories are under 1000, good protein and water intake. No weight gain and no weight loss... I began with a starting weight of 182 and have been at 152. I am short. Is this a stall, or plateau, or the best I can be? Lots of hair loss in the last month and fingernails are thin. Thanks for your input!
  17. Hello everyone! I am Jacquie and I am new to LBT. I live in OK and I am set to have my banding done in Aug! Having set the date, let me assure you, does not mean I am definately having this done! I still have TONS of unanswered questions and anxieties about having this done! #1- I am on insulin...so I have concerns about insulin during the pre-op 10 day diet and of course after surgery! #2- I only have to lose 70 pounds max.....my Dr said that with the band I will have to excercise atleast 2 hours a day to lose regular and maintain the loss for LIFE.....so my question is, if I have to work out/walk/whatever for 2 hours a day for life with the band..couldn't I just do the excercising WITHOUT the band? #3- I maintain a strict 1,200 cal diet and count my carbs, fat, protiens, since I am on insulin and BP meds... I do walk 30 minutes and more daily. If I can do that without the band, do I really NEED the band? #4- I wanted the band so I could get off of unsulin and the BP meds...Dr said I would need to lose atleast 60 pounds to do that...soooooo my question again, is if I have to lose that much to get off the meds, and I only need to lose 60-70 pounds anyway..do I need the band? #5- I was told the RNY would be a faster way to get off the meds..but I also know the complications are greater... has anyone changed from a band to the RNY? #6- I have seen FAILURE from all options..I have seen people lose up to 100 pounds by eating/excercise and I have seen people banded and bypassed...and in all forms of weight loss I have seen the weight gain return in 2-5 years....My dr. says that failure with the band is 80% greater than with other WL options...so just what is it that makes people lose with the band and helps them keep it off? #7-the say the band is for LIFE..yet in doing alot of research reading, I see a VAST amount of removals in less than a year and even more within 2-3 years..... what predicts how long a band will stay in ? so many questions and thus far after attending 4 seminars, a dozen or more support group meetings, and reading for hours on the internet...I have NOT found any good answers! Thanks for any replies and info! Jacquie:thumbup:
  18. Ok I know I shouldn't be stressing this right now but I need to know. The day I went in for surgery I weighed 311. The day I came home I weighed 316. Last night (day 6) I was down to 305. I weighed this morning and I weighed 309. I am averaging about 32 ounces a day right now. WHY AM I GAINING WEIGHT?????
  19. Hi. You've really had a hard time of it. All those things you describe shows you have incredible strength. I'm so glad to hear you don't have hang overs but I'm worried about your liver. Do you think you'd ever consider an alchaholic anon group ? Or even one to one .? Regarding the weight gain I don't know about hysterectomy. But that bottle of wine would be really effecting your ability to lose weight. How do you feel about cutting down ? What does your future regarding alchahol look like ? Are you wanting to quit or cut down ? Perhaps set your self some goals. But don't beat yourself up if you don't manage to stick to them. You look amazing and hopefully things will improve for you. Sounds like with your personal life your on track. But there will be a lot of wounds left from those things so perhaps that's why the drinking is like a bandade over those wounds. Are you in therapy at all ? Sent from my Vivo 5R using BariatricPal mobile app

    Disappointed

I know how you all feel! Dont give up...... Well today ( 11/11/09 ) I made it to the doctors office... I weighted in @ 345 so I had to reset my ticker.. It came out 5 lbs over so I will call my start date today. My blood pressure was good, no issues there. I took a look at my chart and my last visit was on 8/5/08 my weight then 287.7 lbs.. Man that hit me.. I could not believe I let myself go that way! I saw a New PA and she was cool. I told her my issue and she said thats ok, time to start over a new beginning. I thought that was nice of what she said with a 57 lbs weight gain.. After a brief discussion she began to feel for my port but could not find it. She went to get the other PA ( who I have seen before ) and after he saw my chart you would think he would say glad to see you here, instead he says" what happen " I said long story.. That was a turn off... anyway I think she will be my contact person there from now on....They found the port and recovered only 6 cc of Fluid. My last visit he got it up to 9.cc, so it was a little concerning about the 3. 5 cc disappearance. He said hopefully it just demish, but was concern that just maybe I would have a leak. I now have 7cc in my LAP-BAND®.. I have another appt on 12/2/09 and they will check to see how many CC I have then. I will also attend an aftercare/support class... On is Bariatric essentials ( basically a refresher on what to eat/ how much/etc) and the other is Emotional Eating.. This will be all done on the same day since the doctors office is 1.5 hrs from where I live.. Hope to lose 6 lbs bt next visit!
  21. Dear Jeter2: Thanks so much for your reply. I have actually talked to my dr and he gave me the instructions for weaning myself off the Paxil. So, I am in the process of doing that SLOWLY - I get VERY ill if I cut down too much at a time or too fast! My biggest obstacle is that I used to work for my family doctor - the one that prescribed the Paxil 3 years ago. He INSISTS that, if anything, it will have a weight LOSS side effect - but NOT weight gain. And because I can't find weight GAIN as a documented side effect - he refuses to admit that that is even a possibility. I haven't tried any other anti-depressants in the past; but may get up the nerve to ask him for something different - if I can't make it without anything. Thanks again! As for the bc pill - I quit taking it. I see my "girly" doctor the beginning of December so I'll talk to her about other options; however, that one does have documented side effects of weight gain.
  22. You are beautiful, and congrats on wanting to fix the issues. I think at this point it is deeper than the small weight gain - maybe should get some counseling. Your work might have a program through insurance that could be a starting place. You need coping skills that keep you from destructive behavior, and to learn to be kind to yourself. You need to be able to see the 'red flag' behavior in relationships and not get stuck in that again, maybe even AA or Codependants Anonymous. Or some books by Melody Beattie. Good luck.

Checking in ... 4.5 years out

Hi Kathy, I'm glad to hear that you're well... The challenges never cease. While I've been able to maintain, it's still a lot of work. I got a taste of rapid weight gain after allowing my cereal snacking to get out control. I've been slacking a little on my exercising lately due to being very busy with work and need to get that back on track. Keep fighting the fight... Andrew
  24. well actually we shouldn't eat until we are full u should eat until u are not hungry any longer. and most of the times after we eat 1/4 of a meal we are or shouldn't be HUNGRY any longer... Now eating until u are full is something else.... That means normally cleaning your plate... and that is what causes weight gain. Another thing is when u eat until u are no longer hungry means eating smaller meals more often.... which will result in weight loss.... Just eat when u are hungry.. and chew your food really good... Don't eat until u are full and u will be ok...
  25. Hi everyone, I have to say that today was a huge set back for me, I had my fourth weight management appointment and was told I gained 3 pounds. It is hard not to feel like a failure, I just feel as though I will never be able to change unhealthy habits. Anyone out there that has experienced this or is going through this? Any advice or tips? Does this affect insurance approval?
