So things were going very good for the first 5 days. The weight was going down, feeling full after eating. Now I am eating mushy foods and the weight is coming back on. I am trying to make sure I get some exercise. I go to the barn, brush the horses, did house work today, walked for 30 minutes yesterday, can lift 2 pound weights but it not going in the right direction. I'm trying to make sure I have the protien in the foods I eat. Maybe I need more protien. I don't know but it is a bit frustrating for me. I don't want to become paranoid about what I eat but I am afraid that is going to happen. I was so happy to finally be able to eat again. I want and will do whatever I need to to be successful. I just hope it starts going back down again soon. Any suggestions?

Band Over Bypass?
SusieSunshine replied to Arizonakimc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was at a meeting with a woman who lost 100 lbs with the bypass then gained it all back. she was looking into getting banded. -
Gaining the weight back with bypass? Is that possible? Can you get the lap band if you get the bypass? Her insurance must be paying out the A$$! Lol Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

I am worried about not being able to firm up with exercise after I reach my goal. I have absolutely no desire to have "body contouring surgery.". I have spoke to many wls alums who say that the extra skin often can be as frustrating as being obese. My Dr. did say that with my age, health and the fact that I am at the lower BMI spectrum I should have good success through exercise. I would like to hear how other's have handled this. I am 48, 5'2" and 210 lbs. My surgery is scheduled for September 10th

I am 9 months post OP, and have lost almost 90lbs. In the last week I have GAINED 10lbs!!! I know I haven't been on top of the food choices but they haven't been horrible. I am just finishing TOM so idk if that has any impact. Do u think stress would play a part? I'm going thru a messy divorce and stress is constant. Do u think I should go back to protein shakes for a few days?? Just looking for advice, I am freaking out. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm so scared that I will put the weight back on.

January sleevers ! Veterans ?!
CowgirlJane replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
When I was about 8 months out, my appetite returned and my weight loss slowed. The losing phase is not so much a veterans issue, but most of us have been through it. Here is what worked for me - going back to the basics -protein & veggies -water -no snacking -exercise -really low carbs - total, not net -eliminate Protein Bars and other food that i tended to "abuse" Eating that way helps curb hunger and definately keeps losses on track. -
I am starting to loss the nervousness and gain excitement about this journey. I meet with the BariatricPal NUT last night and got lots of positive comments and made a plan for this month of food log weighing Protein and healthy eating out choices.( also only eating Out twice!) shall be interesting! April surgery date seemed a reality to her if not even march! Seems surreal a bit still but so excited and the positive changes are helping me emotionally. Here's to starting the new year right! HI I was banded on May 10,2007. I lost about 18 pounds immediately from the all liquid protein diet but now that I'm 51/2 weeks and eating soft and some regular foods I seem to want to overeat at nite. I don't seem to feel that full from my band at all and wondered if anyone else was experiencing this too. My weight loss has slowed down considerably.

Newbie...looking For Answers.
MsCook replied to millersrnclk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Newbie! Welcome. We all had those feelings of doubt and being unsure. The best way to overcome all of that is by educating yourself. Only you will really know what is right for you. Read everything you can get your hands on, including the Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies book, which is quite informative. Also, peruse this site and obesityhelp.com and you will get all the good, the bad, and the ugly--and the remarkable and inspiring! None of us can tell you if this is right for you. But a good conversation with a gastric surgeon and maybe even visiting support groups in advance would go a long way toward making your decisions. Yes, start with your primary care doc as he/she will be an integral part of your care and pre-op activity if you decide to go through with it; however, your primary doc may not be the best source of information about the surgery. Honestly, they seem to know what it is and that it could benefit the obese, but not much more. After all, it's not their specialty. Information is your best bet! I'll leave you with what my surgeon told me: the lap band is a slight risk, the gastic sleeve slightly more, and the gastric bypass even moreso. But the most dangerous and risky thing you can do about your obesity is nothing! -

hi all thanks for your replies and help its so nice to know there are others with weird thoughts.:crying: I started my Optifast today and its not the nicest stuff but its a means to an end. I get banded on the 7th oct and will only stay one night. It took me one year on the public hospital free waiting list to be called for surgery which is not very long at all really. I havent set a weight goal yet but I have 2 goals My goals are to reduce my medications and to look ok in a pair of jeans christmas day 2011 I dont mean perfect but just ok. -
Had my psych test today. It was not at all what I expected from what I have read of others experiences here. I had no pen & paper diagnostic testing at all. Just spent about a half hour w/ a psychiatric nurse practioner. She asked me to explain my understanding of the surgical procedure and the frequency and sort of follow up required. She asked me why I wanted to have this surgery, if I had ever been able to lose weight on my own. Asked about family psychiatric history, if I ever thought of suicide,if I ever thought of killing anyone, if I ever hallucinated, asked whether I had a history of eating disorders, and if I had a history of drug/alcohol abuse. Then she did some simple, verbal evaluations of my cognitive functioning. This consisted of asking me my name, where I was, and what sort of surgery I was pursuing. Then she said three words and asked me to repeat them back to her. Told me she would ask me again later, and in the meantime would distract me with other questions. She asked me to spell a word forward and backward and had me do some simple arithmatic in my head and then asked me if I remembered and could repeat back the 3 words she had given me earlier. In the end, she said I did fine and that she thought I was a good candidate, psychologically speaking, for the surgery. YAY! That was my last pre-op test! Now I just have a follow up appt. with the pulmonoligist to get the results of my sleep study and I have to await the nutritionist's stamp of approval.

I know that about 3-4 weeks after surgery I had a 2.5 week plateau. I was only eating about 700-800 cals a day. I upped it to 1000-1200 and immediately started losing weight again. I lost 60 pounds in 3 months and I am on another plateau. I know that I am eating the right amount of food and doing the right things and that my body will catch up again. But darn it is frustrating! I loved dropping 2 pounds every 3-4 days. I know that pace of weight loss is not realistic so 1-2 pounds it what I am aiming for. I just need the weight loss to start up again!

Hi all, I'm newly banded, banded in august! I was so disappointed with my one pound weightloss over the past 10 days! So silly of me to think this way, but I was hoping for more, I was blinded by how quickly the initial weight came off, but at least I kept losing and didn't gain!!! Since my weight slowed down with that one pound loss, I got my first fill yesterday  I have this lump in my throat feeling, not too sure if that's how it's supposed to feel. I was having some greek yogurt this morning and I can't even make a dent in it. I enjoyed the fill because I feel rejuvenated with my process. I'm feeling motivated to shed more pounds and even did a 2.5 mile walk yesterday! Before, I was only averaging about a mile. Hopefully with this spike in exercise, the fill, and motivation.............I can jump start my weight loss again to reach that new year goal !!! Wish me luck and good luck to everyone feeling like they are in a slump! You can do it!!!

Newbie here with a few questions
shortgal replied to Ann D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Having surgery to lose weight is a big step and I think we must listen to our Dr's and follow what they tell us to do before and after. Follow the diet your Dr gave you. Dr's hate non-compliant patients. Why go to them for their help and advice if we're not going to listen? -
Hi ! I am having the Lap Band procedure performed on Friday, January 13th. (Trying to not be superstitious) I have had trouble losing weight over the last 8 years. I will get started for several days to a week, then give in and go pig out at Chilis or similar place. I work as a midwife and deliver babies for a busy practice at our hospital. My 5 day work week is much more than that. I have to keep going sometimes on no sleep. I struggle with feeling like cooking, exercising, or pretty much anything else once I get home. So, I have put on about 40 pounds I would say over the last 5-6 years, and I was already overweight to start. I am sick of my body, being tired, stressed, unable to breathe just walking across the parking lot, or unable to get up one flight of stairs at work, having joint and back pain...you name it. I feel I need some help and I hope this is going to give me the extra boost I need to get healthy. I know the things I should be eating and doing, I just cant seem to stay on track. My BMI was 34.? at my consultation. I would like to lose from 200 down to 135. I would also like to have the energy to get all my body back in shape and toned throughout this adventure. Thankful for the forum and the support. Good luck to everyone here! Kim

Just got my date now I'm afraid
jllybean1982 replied to Gerry1958's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Gerry, Believe me when I tell you I was a nervous wreck. The closer to my surgery date, the more nervous I became. I just kept reminding myself that I have tried and failed so many times at losing weight that I needed help. I couldn't handle another failed attempt at losing weight. It took me awhile to get used to the idea of having a foreign object in my body. To be honest..it still freaks me out a little. I am surprised about how I can twist and bend and still not feel the band inside me. It had really helped me with my weight loss, so I would definitely recommend having it done! Good luck to you Gerry! -
Back from first Consultation

Proud2BMe - I am not looking for a miracle cure. I'm just unsuccessful at losing weight. I get bored with dieting and tend to grab what's easy and accessible. I'm not a binge eater. I've gained about an average 8 pounds or so per year since I got out of high school. Each time I've attempted to diet, I would lose about 30 pounds, get bored and gain it back + another 5 more. I would say my problem is that I never feel full unless I eat a very, very large amount of food. So in looking at WLS, especially the sleeve, I see a tool that would help me with portion control by restricting the amount and types of food I can eat at one sitting. My surgeon wants me to lose this weight prior to any pre-op diet. I can do it if I put my mind to it but it will be a challenge. -
I have been thinking about having this done for quite some time and am now REALLY wanting to get on with it. I attend my first seminar on October 19th and then will be anxious to hear what my insurance (Aetna) will do. I have my doctor's full support, as I am dealing with many issues including Type 2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and the usual. I've been overweight since childhood, parents putting me on medications by age of 10, and then done every diet known to woman, and then some. I've done many of the diets more than once, losing, only to gain back more than I lost. It's is so wonderful to come to this place and hear your wonderful success stories, hear your concerns and get the support, and have you ask the same questions as many of us have - and have them answered. Thank you to all of you who put in your time and effort to support and encourage me, us! Success and health to everyone on your venture and endeavor!

So I'm 5 lbs from my goal weight. But I am very frustrated. I am 8 months out and worried I've stretched my sleeve. I can now eat lots of food I still get full but I totally failed today I already reached 1900 calories because I was stressed today. I usually don't have days like this. Can some one please tell me the facts of stretching and what are your calorie limits each day I do cardio almost everyday and I'm very active but today was a diet fail. I also am fighting carb cravings. I feel like I couldnt find rest while fat now that im thin I worry more.

Very Good! Every one is different. Just work on your self & do not compare your weight loss to others. The Sleeve is great!

Hey guys. I just have a little concern, just wanna hear if someone is having something similar situation. I got my surgery in October of 2010 and lost about 45 lbs in four months from, I'm sure, the result of the surgery and being a little timid of the foods on the restricted list. So after about six months of monthly doctor visits, monthly fills... I still felt no restrictions. After about 8 months, I started to fall into old habits because, well ... I guess I was mad at myself for not being the typical band patient and having normal restriction... I don't know. But 10 months out, I've gained 25 lbs back... all my fault. I've never felt stuck, I've never slimed, I've never pb'd. It's like the band isn't there. I think I have 8 or 9 ccs out out of 11, I believe. Has anyone gone through this? Had 8 fills and felt no restriction? I realize that 90% of losing weight on the band is me. Eating right and exersizing but I was counting on the band to help. Has anyone gone to maximum fill to get restriction? I'm back on the program with smaller portions and getting my 150+ minutes of walking in but I'm getting a little discouraged after almost a year. Any response is appreciated!! Amy
