  1. Clearly you are overweight so tell him you are trying to lose weight and doing a detox diet and like everyone else suggests do something that avoids eating. Its pretty socially acceptable to be on a diet these days.
  2. Hi all I am planning to have my surgery as soon as possible and I am in contact with few doctors trying to make the right decision. I wished that this forum doesnt have members who might be getting money referals and they only talk about their own experiences to help each other . Anyway thanks all for ur help my major question is was anyone here helped by a lady named Rita Coonrod, she sounds like a respectful nice lady and she is trying to help me to get my surgery by dr Mario Almanza, it's a package to go to san diago.....Gastric Bypass Weight Loss Surgery, Mexico - The Bariatric Group s the company she works for I guess th epayment should go to ISA in texas , has anyone done that b4 and is it safe to send the money this way . Rita sounds like a nice proffesional lady but I just want to make sure that I am on the right track and no spam is involved. Another one is Sandy Johnson who is very porffesional and helpful as well , she gave me the same package for a different price . have anyone been helped by this lady or did the surgery through her. she workd for www.MexicoWeightLossSurgery.com Both look good to me and I just want to hear from people who did it NOT WHAT PEOPLE THINK PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE in a lot of threads I notice that members start fighting so please please please dont do it here , if u have anything personal discuss it personally , I would like to get exact info so I can do my surgery very soon thanks
  3. I have my pre op day in hospital tomorrow and hubby is coming with me, even though he's squirming about it even now lol (He's not very good on the medical side of things). I have had my bloods, urine and poop checked already through my GP so tomorrow is just meeting the team and seeing the private part of the hospital I will be in on the 23 of July 2015. Going tomorrow is making it all the more 'real'. I'm not sure I will sleep tonight. We are going out Saturday night to the theatre to see a play but before that we are off for a meal and champagne to Celebrate the start of a new journey in my and our life together. On Monday I start an 18 day pre op liquid only diet. I have been good recently, not over eating, not eating any rubbish and have lost a bit of weight already. I don't know if the feeling in my tummy is excitement or nerves. What did you do before the op to signal the start of a new journey, if anything and looking back is there something you had wished you had done? Suggestions please, after all I have four days of debauchery left ~~ Hugs ~~ Kate
  4. So I had my surgery in June and have lost a little weight (15 pounds). I have had 4 fills. I am going in again Thursday. When I ask my Dr. what the size of my band was he was weird about telling me. Making me feel like I was weird for asking. He finally told me it was a 14 cc band. Then when I ask how much he is putting in for a fill he avoids the subject and tells me it doesn't matter as long as it is tight. The problem is it's not. And I swear he makes me feel like I am crazy for saying its not. Near as I can figure he fills 2 cc's at a time. So I am about 8/9cc's. Anyone else have a weird situation like this? I would find another dr but I have free fills till Oct. And to go to a new dr would cost me about 600.00 It's just alot of driving and time off work.
  5. Seeing after losing over 100 lbs what I'm going to have to have done - My skin is actually bouncing back pretty good so far, but it won't after I lose another 100 lbs, I'm quite sure of that. So...my list for what's going to be done (hopefully all at the same time) 1. Put the "girls" back where they belong 2. Arms 3. Tummy tuck 4. Lower body lift I think all this combined is a "full" body lift. My insurance that i have now will pay for at least some of it - i know they pay for the "removal of excess skin after weight loss" and I know they pay for breast reductions, which I'll have along with the surgery (I don't ever gain or lose there - I've always had sizable boobs) So I'm saving now for the rest of the cost. Looking for an exceptional plastic surgeon here in Denver - don't really want to travel for this one, but I will if i can't find a doc I like
  6. Been of the pain meds since yesterday at 9am. Water sucks and taste like metal. Got some flavoring and it is helping. Tried power aid zero and leaves a bad after taste. Broth is good but strong. Tried chicken noodle soup and strained the broth out and love it! A real treat! Jello is good, milk is good. Walked 3 blocks today and feel good! Going to keep increasing the length. Is it really true you get a runny nose when you are getting full? Two weeks prep weighted 331, day of surgery weight was 314, day after was 320. Said that the IV fluids cause that and some people gain up to 10 lbs. appointment Friday for 1st post op appointment.

    Should I celebrate?

Every day you wake up breathing is a reason to celebrate! I think sometimes we people who carry extra weight also carry extra guilt around, and don't feel like our achievements are worth as much as the next (skinny) person's. The main thing here is you are moving along in your journey, and what's not to celebrate about that? Three cheers for you!

    After a slow start.....

since surgery. i didn't have to do a pre op diet because i have an insurance that doesn't require one. in fact the first weigh in was lower than the pre op weight.

    After a slow start.....

Congratulations!!! I love to hear these stories!! I'm getting banded in January. Is that 19lbs strictly what you have lost since surgery or does that include the weight you lost in pre-op?? I really love reading everyone's story.. Keep up the good work!!
  11. My doctor told me I can eat between 800-1000 calories. I am 3 months out and have been sticking to 800. I feel like it's not enough anymore and tempted to move up to 900. My question is with 800 I have been eating between 650-850 and been losing about 1-2 pounds a week. Do you think if I increased to 900 it will slow my weightloss? I already lost almost 70 and I have a little less then 30 pounds to get to my goal and I don't want to ruin the steady pace I have been having. The bulk of my weight loss was the past 2 months this month has been slower but I'm happy. I hope I don't sound paranoid or goofy lol Thanks in advance for advice tips and opinions!
  12. Welcome to LapBandTalk! I don't know how the process works in Australia, but if you aren't going to be penalized for being too small by losing weight -- which happens in the US to some people, believe it or not -- then I say go for it! Not so much "trying to lose weight" as "starting to make the post-op lifestyle changes as a pre-op". This will have the side-effect of losing weight, but the goal is to learn to chew slowly, not drink with meals, get enough water in, take your vitamins, etc. Any new habit you can get pre-op, is one less then to worry about post-op. That's what I did and I'm really glad I did because post-op was *still* quite the adjustment.

    What do I say?

I told some, didn't tell others. Like one of the first posters, I had a hiatal hernia repair also done, so if someone wanted details that I didn't feel comfortable sharing, I just left it at that. The post-surgery diets are quite similar. It has been fine. This was a big deal to me before and right after my surgery but now it's not such a big deal. In fact, my father doesn't even really know that I had surgery. (My mother does, and what kind.) But I saw them over Thanksgiving. He looked at my plate and commented that I should put salad on it, and I started with the words, "I'm recovering from an abdomi…." and he said, "Stop! I don't want to hear any details." And that was that. Now it's starting to look like I've lost weight, and so I'm hearing about that…but strangely enough no one really seems to care much or want to know how. I am still maintaining the belief that knowledge about how I chose to do this is on a need-to-know basis only. My trainers at the gym? Need to know. The 60 volunteers I work with? Not so much.

    Need some help please

Hi Sherry, I really feel for you. Maybe instead of going in for a fill, you should make an appointment just to talk with your doctor. I would explain the situation to him to see what he can do for you. I know that you are worried about having fills left for later but if you are not losing weight steadily now, it will not get better later. I found with my doctor that I can talk with him and he can work around the rules. You just need to make sure that the band is working optimally for you. Your doctor should also want you to succeed as well. Best of luck. Helen
  15. Hi, Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. My name is Cor'. I am pre-op, and just got the OK to meet with the surgeon in my program. I am about 6 weeks out from meeting them, but I've done all my program testing and just started a six week class. I'm a 26yo female, 5'11" and started the program in January at 326. The year previously I was at my highest weight ever at 342. I just weighed in yesterday at the hospital and am at 311 (my fav band, I kind of laughed at that). My bmi is 43. After months of searching on the web, I'm surprised that I just found the site today! I can't wait to read more about everyones' experiences. I have thoroughly enjoyed the process so far, but am starting to get really nervous now that I'm coming up on the final legs of preparation to start my new journey! Does anyone have any advice to calm the nerves? I think I'm a bit nervous about all of it- surgery, what life will be like after, what if I don't lose the weight, what if I stop enjoying the whole thing, what if I don't like my new body... yadda, yadda, yadda... I just keep trying to stay focused on what I want out of this - to be an active person again! Running, cycling, hiking - being outside and having fun -enjoying my body for being a tool, a utility, for all the fun things I want to do in life.

    Weight gain

My last weight in today so not sure yet. I had opted for the depo shot the last 2 months cause my surgeon recommended birth control before hand as a precautionary step. Also to stop taking my oasis and I know the pounds have racked on. But my insurance company already approved the surgery. Just feels like a situation that can't be helped. Just ready for my surgery date already to start this new life of mine Sent from my VS880PP using the BariatricPal App

    2 Month Bandiversary!

I love that you had the courage to do this!! Also it give me hope, and by that I mean we had a pretty similar starting weight, pretty similar weight loss so far and you look amazing. So you give me hope that maybe I'm improving as much as you are! It's so very hard to look in the mirror and see anything other then what you are used to. I wish now I had taken before and after pictures. Keep up the great work you are doing and awesome job I am so glad that my story has given you hope!! That's a great thing to hear. I knew I would regret not documenting my journey with pictures, even though they are hard to take and look at. I encourage it though because it does end up being a good motivator! Thank you for your encouraging words I wish you all the best as well.

  20. Hi! I'm Becky. I've been reading the boards here for a couple of months but finally decided to dive in. I am 4 months into the process since I decided to get Lap-Band surgery, and making my way through all the pre-op doctors' clearances - cardiologist, pulmonologist, gallbladder, etc. I am expecting to be banded in the fall - October or November. I'd ultimately like to lose about 150 lbs. If I make it, I won't quite be "thin," but I'll be at a weight I was comfortable at for several years and which seemed natural for me. I've read a lot of discussion here that has gone both ways - people who've had great success and those who have struggled and not met their objectives. Lately I've seen posts saying Lap-Band is NOT the way to go if you want to lose more than 100 lbs, and this has me a little concerned, but not close to changing my mind. I know it will be a struggle to change my way of thinking and eating - to nourish my physical body, not my feelings - and that the band will just be a tool, not the magic bullet (there's no such thing). But I have faith that the band will be the help I need to start over and live a healthier, longer, more adventurous life. I look forward to joining you all on your journeys and wish you much success and fulfillment along the way!

New To The Boards, Not Yet Banded

I, too, feel like I will never be skinny. I don't really even have the body type to be thin. That's why I put my goal weight at 180 - still "overweight," but a weight that I is WAY healthier than where I am now. Hey... if I get lower than 180 then heck yeah!! But part of goal making is to be realistic and make it something achievable. Trust me... By the numbers I have 120 give/take to lose. I am choosing band b/c of the malabsorption (I am already osteoporosis waiting to happen from chronic steroid use), down time from work (primary bread winner), slower steady weight loss (I still have work to do on food issues let alone emotional changes that may occur), etc. My surgeon always says you have the whole pre-op time to make your decision. He advises to get started through the pre-op while continuing to do the research. Just weigh out the options keeping in mind that nothing will work if you don't!! Keep in touch!! My date is 9/26/2012 so we will be fairly close on this journey!

New To The Boards, Not Yet Banded

Hi Becky and welcome to Lapbandtalk. Making a decision for any surgery elective or not is such a personal decision. What you are going through is perfectly normal and most of us have been there. You already stated you know it is going to be a lot of work. That is a good attitude to have. I started out at 488 pounds and I went back in forth trying to decide what was right for me. I was so heavy and concerned the weight would not come off. After much consideration and the fact I didn't have any other life threatening health issues I decided the band was it for me. I was banded in April 2012 and so far I am down 67 pounds (not including preop loss). Whatever you decide just know this: All WLS which ever one you decide on is going to take a lot of effort and will power. I am not saying this to discourage you or scare you. I am just trying to keep it real. It is work but with the tools it doesn't seem as out of reach. My goal is 220 pounds and at 5'6 that still puts me in the obese class but I know that is a weight I can feel good with and live with. Any additional weight loss on top of that would be a treat.

    Here's My Story....

thank you, crystal. you might be right about the band induced bulimia. i never threw up before i was banded and haven't felt the need to throw up since i've had all the Fluid removed from my band. i do know i always had a hard time knowing when to stop eating. my stomach told me to stop but my brain told me to keep eating. i usually listened to my brain. i weighed 145 consistantly for 2 years and then in December my weight started dropping. i was down to 114 which was not healthy for me but i couldn't gain weight no matter what i tried which is why i went back to my surgeon the beginning of August to find out my band had slipped... which could be why i made myself throw up too. since having all the fluid removed i'm back up to 125 pounds but really should be about 140. my surgeon said i have about 3-6 months to make up my mind... i too am worried about half my stomach being removed. it's so... final but i was told that getting rebanded left a very high risk of slipping again. i know if i just have it removed i'll gain the weight back. there is no question about it. now i just have to find a surgeon in Mexico that i trust since i'm self pay!

    Hey Everyone!

What are your restrictions? My boss said the first 2 days are the worst because your having withdraws. Do you excersise any to help with the weightloss or was it just the diet that you lost weight on? I am restricted to 2 day liquid diet before. Nervous about it drank a Protein shake today and was hungry a hour and a half later I had another one.
