    May 2023 surgeries

My surgery is May 15. I don’t generally like flavored water and the few I like are red. Same with jello. I start my preop diet today. I only have a week. Surgery date came much sooner than expected.

    Help 😞

I haven’t recovered. I’m still not able to eat I’m now 13 weeks out. I been in and out the hospital. Even with just dipping a spoon in soup and licking it irritates my stomach. Doctors keep focusing on Nausea which yes I’m very nauseous but the pain the acid not much. They keep prescribing me medication that I’m unable to swallow even if I tried I would throw up. I feel like I’m dying day by day I have dropped 38 pounds. I produce so much saliva I choke on it and acid heart burn none stop . They suggesting I might need a gastric bypass but I’m scared I’m reading bad things I already had a hernia repair not resolved anything for me I feel lifeless

    May 2023 surgeries

Aw thank you! Good luck to you and everyone else this week having surgery. I'm definitely feeling the nerves now. Hoping those who've had it continue to recover well and that the rough parts ease soon. Those on the pre op diet, you got this! It socks but it's worth it.

    Weak and lightheaded

that's often due to low blood pressure or low blood sugar - but I suppose dehydration could do it, too. Usually when it's low pressure, though, you feel it more when you've been lying down or sitting and you suddenly stand up (and that particular scenario is not that uncommon the first few weeks after surgery). But I agree with the others - might be good to run it by your team.

    Weak and lightheaded

I am 2 weeks post op. I would suggest calling your team. I had major blood pressure complications the first week, thankfully all ok now.

    Stall

Yeah.. I hit a stall for most of April which was mostly in my 3rd month. It was depressing for a bit. I switched up my exercise routine a bit. And that seems to have helped. Because now I am losing again. I know it's common but it definitely does a number on the psyche. Because you can't help but wonder what you did wrong. Even if nothing has changed in diet.

How Can I Drink More Water??

I start off the morning with a full bottle of water. My surgeon told me at my 2-week follow-up and looked at me pointedly and he said to sip water often throughout the day. He also said to keep a water bottle handy at all times. It took awhile but now I am drinking water all the time now at 14 weeks.

    Burning/pulling/stinging pain

I am 14 weeks post-op. And I had experienced that awful tugging/pulling on my left side for several weeks in the beginning. Now, not so much. Maybe I might feel when I hold my arms up for too long when doing my hair. But for the most part, it went away in time.
  11. mine started at 3 months post-op. cut off all my hair into a pixie because i hated seeing my scalp AND vacuuming up the CARPETS of hair accumulating in my bathroom. The Great Shedding stopped about 3 months after it started. im 4.5+ years out now and i have a full head of under-boob length hair that actually seems thicker & healthier than it was pre-surgery (probably due to my better diet and overall health) and it even has a wave to it now, which was unexpected, but appreciated lol. I didn't take any sort of supplement nor do anything special to my routine other than the haircut. Basically just waited it out. Good Luck, and hang in there!
  12. I don't have a monumental update, but any progress is good progress in our world. 😉 I'm going on 6 weeks out from bypass & hernia repair. Ecstatic I can finally sleep on my side again! Lol. I'm down 19 lbs from day of surgery and 29 altogether from first consultation in January. I'm happy with the progress so far. I still want to lose 45 lbs, so we will see how the journey goes. I'm so anxious to get to regular foods stage, but I also understand the soft stage is one of the easiest food stages regarding choices. Just getting a little bored with it, but old favorites like blue cheese and feta cheese are rocking my world right now. 🤣 Kudos to all of you on here getting the job done and then some!

    Stall

I was told by my surgeon and his team that for some reason, everyone hits a plateau around 3-4 weeks post op. You should be fine after that I got worried too when I hit my plateau but my weight has been going down ever since.
  14. It's happened several times in the last week, I get extremely weak and lightheaded- like I'm going to pass out. The first time was walking up the stairs and then it happened again today in the shower. I've been walking, so it's not every time I am active. I'm thinking of either blood pressure or lack of fluids. Is this normal? Should I talk to my team? I'm almost a week out from rny

How many weeks are you post op? Sometimes we need to stick up for ourselves. You just hang in there and remind yourself that you’re worth it!!?

I'm so ready for this stage to be over. On the upside, I've lost 22 lbs since the start of the pre-op diet. So, roughly 3 weeks.

    Little to no weightloss

I agree with those telling you to stay off the scales. I went through this, and still have those weeks. I was getting very frustrated with the lack of scale movement but noticed my clothes were fitting differently. I’m not good with consistently doing measurements so I just started measuring my progress by my clothes (fitting better or not fitting … getting to big). Once I started to see that change was happening the scale movement mattered less to me. I go through periods of scales stalls and then spurts of progress, but my body seems to be changing consistently - even in small ways. Stick to your plan, the results will come. I’m currently 9 months post op… I’ve lost 65 lbs since surgery (122 total). I still have a long way to go, but despite loosing slowly, I’m loosing consistently and my body is seeming to adjust well to the slower loss. I do have some loose skin but not nearly as much as I feared after loosing 122 pounds.
  19. Anyone else kicking off the month of June with me on 1st? I start my pre-op diet in just over a week which will be great as I am totally overeating just now - im told that is so very normal for many people at this stage of the process x
  20. Started at 317lb before surgery. Its been almost a year and 1 month since. Weighed myself today and i am at 189lb. Only 9 more pounds to go to reach my intended goal weight tho if i loose more then awesome!! I actually gained weight about a month or 2 ago and that was my fault do to eating poorly... donuts and donuts and donuts... Its hard because they get delivered fresh to my job everyday and they just taunt me in the display case... lol So i think i will be loosing a lot more weight soon next month because i am moving to a place in the pacific northwest with tons of outdoor trails and hiking which i love to do but here in Florida its too hot to do outside stuff most of the year like that haha. I will be doing the van life thing so planet fitness membership for showers and of course working out everyday which i have not done much of this past year. So i will be resetting my goal weight to 160lb. and i reach that that will blow my mind. I had my 1 year follow up last week. Doctor was like "did you forget to take your vitamins? i told her yes... for about a month or so. She was like SEEEE thats proof they work because my vitamin labs were low. so yea i gotta take it everyday. They are referring me to a GI doctor due to my climbing Biliruben levels. Surgeon does not know why it keeps going up. I had a nuclear scan of my gall bladder and its working just fine without any blockage.

  22. Everyone heals & recovers differently for many reasons. You may find you won’t need your opioids (or as many) in the next day or so & over the counter, non NSAIDS, will be enough. Start slowly with your walking & increase as you’re able. Walking around your home is fine if that’s all you can mange at first. Doing several short walks is just as beneficial as doing a single long walk. Or do some seated exercises for your legs & arms (raising your arms & legs up & down, foot & wrist flexing, etc.) if getting up & down is difficult at first. Of course if your strong pain persists into a second week or your opioids aren’t managing your pain, contact your surgeon. All the best.

    Stall

Stalls are a important part of your weight loss. It’s when your body stops to get used to the changes, assesses your new needs & readjusts things like the hormones involved in digestion, metabolic rate, etc. You’ll start losing weight again when your body is ready. How many stalls you have or how long each one lasts don’t have any affect on your final weight loss. I agree: stick to your plan, stay off the scales. And yes, they always break. All the best.

    Stall

When you had the bypass you signed yourself up for a spot in a marathon in a number or sports. Running (what you eat) Track and field (how you eat and why). Stamina (Patience). Synchcronized swimming (Creativity). Discus (More patience). High jump (Exercise). It will take a long time of practicing all of these elements to get to the end of your race. It can feel very hard at the start to even see the finish line and that is why you just keep on showing up for yourself day after day. I struggled at the start with the length of the journey ahead. It has taken me a year to feel better about being in my own skin. Keep on doing what your team has advised. If you keep to new habits it will happen even though there may be hiccups along the way. Picture where you will be at in a year and looking back at the victories you will have along the way. 1 - Stay off the scales they will do your head in. Weigh once a week or month. 2 - Measure yourself once a month a see the changes. 3 - Set mini goals along the way and reward yourself when you achieve them. 4 - Be proud that you are doing the very best you can. 💖
