Pregnancy And Sleeve
justmeandmysleeve replied to Luckystar12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about 10 weeks post op, my doctor said I shouldn't have a problem at all. My primary reason for loosing the weight and getting healthy is so that my husband and I can have the family we've been wanting. I was told it will be a high risk pregnancy in that they will not wanting me gaining excess weight, but that it shouldn't be a problem getting pregnant and having a healthy child once I am at goal! -
Any one having lapband done at S.O.C.H.?

Welcome from a former Jerseyite. I lived in Toms River for 60 years. I was banded in Kansas on 4/10/09. Glad to hear you are doing well. -
My Post Op Diet Seems Less Strict Than Most Others
SleeveDreamer replied to Squisha's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow at all the variations! i was on clear liquids for a week with no protein drinks, then full liquids and protein drinks for a week, then pureed and protein drinks for a week, then soft foods for 2 weeks, then regular, but no steak, or bread or pasta til 10 weeks. Sometimes they move you right from clear liquids to pureed and skip the full liquids from what I heard. -
I had VGS in March 2019. I was doing good but then got severely under weight. I have since done the exact opposite and about 30 pounds over weight. I’m terrified that I have stretched my pouch and that I’m never going to get the weight back off.

I am so happy to see this thread. I am type 2 diabetic, no insulin, just glyburide. I am hoping to get off of it ASAP after banding. My sugars have been really wacky on the 10 day liquid pre op, they go between 70 & 250 for some reason. Cant seem to get them regulated. Hopefully surgery will help! Just 6 more days!

Can you be more specific as to why it is tough? Im having surgery on 10/28/2017 and want to know as much as possible to try and prepare 51 year old woman VSG DATE: 10/28/17 5' 5" HW: 259 CW: 249 SW: --- GOAL: 135

I had mine on March 18th, 2019. I am doing pretty good so far. The nausea the first day or 2 after surgery was HORRIBLE! It did get better though. Only real problems I am having right now is eating/drinking enough water. I can only tolerate liquids right now and sometimes even that's hard to keep down.

Did anyone else have robotic surgery? Mine was on 3-11-19. If so, how are you doing after having it done.

I had surgery on Thursday April 19 with Dr Ortiz. I am down 13 lbs since pre-op diet! I hope you continue to do well- I am nervous because I am so very hungry in the evenings! I hope I can keep the momentum going! Best of luck to ou!

I also hate weights. But, developing more muscle really will help with your overall metabolism/BMR. The best way to develop muscle is to concentrate on doing it in one area at a time. Like one day, just do core muscles, then the next day, do just the arms, the next day work on just legs. It is always better to do the muscle building before cardio. This way everything is available to get the most out of your muscle building. One week I do weights with lots of reps to get the fat burn right where I want it, and the next week I do fewer reps, but try to increase the weight by 10lbs. I started out a couple of months ago, only being able to do about 40lbs at 100 reps on the ab machine. Now I can do 80lbs at 100 reps. This is a good example of doing more reps and less weight to mainly work on burning the fat where I want it to burn from. While the next week, I do the same ab machine with 100lbs for 10 reps and try to make it through 3 cycles. I can't make it on the third try, so I will just keep trying until I make it. If you can make it through all 3 cycles, you need to move up 10lbs next time. If you can't make it to 8 reps on any cycle, you have to move back 10lbs. Try to get 30 grams of Protein in during or right after your weight lifting, and it will make quicker results. I know, you hate weights, but a lot of studies have shown that weight training in conjunction with cardio, will make your cardio much more successful, and it will make the most effect on BMR. Keep your body guessing what it is going to do today by varying things up and it will overall be more effective. Do these things, and you have just learned everything I have learned from having a trainer work with me. It costs a lot to learn something so basic???

NO MORE Fat Lazy Slug For Me!
WASaBubbleButt replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I need to talk to Jacqui to see how I can increase calories burned on my treadmill. I'm thinking of using 10# weights for my hands, with an incline, and a pretty good speed. Not sure how else I can do it. I hate weight training, hate it with a passion but I don't mind my treadmill much at all. I really felt good yesterday and as Denise says, I've really noticed a difference in my mood with just one session. I feel good this morning, much better than the past few weeks. -
Attention!!! Any July 2005 Bandsters
hopefull replied to abrightfuture's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on July 22, 2005 and I am now down to 259. I am mostly in 18-20W size down from a high of 24, some 26-28W. Today I squeezed on a pair of size Liz Claiborne size 18 stretch capris.....I can zip and button and breathe standing up...sitting is a bit of a squeeze. I am going to wear these even though they are tight (I work at home or else I wouln't do this in public, although some women wear clothes this tight, just not me), because I need to remind myself to not pick...That is my issue. It is lots better but not as good as I would like it. I want to loose 10 lbs in the next 2 and a half weeks..I know that is a bit of a stretch but I do get a fill next week...am thinking of going on liquids for a bit longer. I need these capris for trip to California on the 7th of October. One or two PBs...one with french fries from MCD's and one from chx. Exercise program needs to be improved. ps...my band start weight was 292, I think -
25, 200+ lbs. to lose, need someone who understands!
AmyFritcher posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, This is my first time on here since having my surgery on July 10, 2009. I started at 397 pounds, lost 13 during the pre-op diet, lost another 7 during the post-op diet, have had one fill and am totally stuck and feeling awful. I've been feeling insanely defeated, totally useless. I have no restriction and can eat the same huge quantities I could before. What's worse, I am eating whatever the hell I want. It's like my brain is saying, "Well, you have no restriction, so may as well just eat what you want." How ridiculous is that?! I saw a psychologist before surgery as was required by my insurance, but she was AWFUL. She tried and failed to finish my sentences correctly and spent most of the meeting talking about how much she loves rice and pasta (my favorites). She also made an assumption that I didn't feel loved as a child! Insane! Now I am basically afraid to go back and see a therapist and feel lost. I wish they had meetings in the North Mpls./St. Paul area that took place on either weekends or after 7 p.m. I work too late to make it to any of the meetings in my area, so I feel like I have no way of getting support. I allowed myself to get up to almost 400 pounds! How absolutely ridiculous. And now we've invested all this money, time, and energy into this surgery, and I can't manage the willpower to just say NO, I won't eat that or drink that. My husband and I want to get pregnant in a year, but if I am not in better health, we will not do it for obvious medical reasons. I feel like I have to EARN my pregnancy, but even the thought of having a baby doesn't seem to motivate me. I just CAN'T find the willpower within me anywhere. I am 25 years old and in desperate need of someone like me...close to my age but, more importantly, close to the same weight loss goal that I have which is a hefty 200 pounds. Are you out there? I need you! Amy  -
On January 9th of this year marked my 1 year anniversary of having the Sleeve surgery! I am so happy with my results and truly love my sleeve. I started this journey at 228lbs. I had to do the 6 month supervised diet so 10 months later, the day of surgery i was 203lbs. On January 9, 2014 i weighed in at 135lbs. I have learned to use my tool and know what my limits are and what my slider foods are. I am very aware of what goes in my mouth as opposed to before i had surgery where i ate or drank whatever i wanted. It has to be worth something good for me to eat it. Things i would have done differently: Definitely Exercise more! I didn't start going to the gym until 5 months post op. Pure laziness in my part. So if i can give a newbie any advice at all is to definitely exercise and take advantage of the first 6 months post op because that is when you will see the weight fly off your body. After 6 months i noticed that my weight loss slowed down alot. I still lost weight but it was minimal. Here is a before picture and a picture that was taken at 10 months post op.

I had my staples out after 10 days and they put steri strips on afterwards but some of them only lasted a day or so. I am down to just three strips. Everything else has healed up and the itching is starting to subside.

So, I'm trying to figure out if today is day 3 post-op or day 4 post-op....I had my surgery on Wednesday the 17th. The surgery went really well. It was scheduled for 2pm...and about 1 they told me it would be later like 2:30---then pushed it back 30 more minutes...etc. I was really stressing from not eating and it was really rough to wait--but it sure helped me not get nervous. Somehow after/during the surgery but before I was released I developed fever--crushing pain in my chest--low oxygen levels and feeling pretty wretched. They took me down to scan my lungs for pulmenary embolism (TURNED out negative) and then told me I had fluid in my left lung (pneumonia). I had to start an antibiotic drip and breathing treatments. I was SO glad they didn't release me from the hospital I was feeling so bad. All I had in the hospital was broth and rationed out grape juice for two and a half days. I felt like that maybe why I was dying! ) Anyway--long story short---I was released last night. I am still a long way from feeling "good", but mostly it's from my chest/lungs. I'm drinking my liquids and thanking God that I'm ok. oh, by the way, when I stepped on the scale with my hospital gown on in surgery prep room, I had lost 10 whole pounds from the PREOP diet. I lost almost 2 more SINCE surgery--but still feel swollen/bloated from the IV's. I can't believe it!! Thanks for all the thoughts/prayers. I'm on the OTHER SIDE now!! Time to drink more milk! I am now ten days post-op. So far so good. I start pureed foods next Wednesday. By doctor's last weigh in pre-op I am down 15 lbs. Per my personal weigh in day of surgery 10 days ago I am down 11 lbs. So I am averaging a loss of a lb a day. I am getting nervous starting the pureed foods next week, I plan to just eat baby food for convenience for most meals. I hope I lose at least 4 more lbs before starting them up. But I must say this has been going very smoothly and hope it continues, It took me a few years to decide to do this but I am sure I made the right decision. I can't wait to be released to work out with less poundage!

Anyone With Prostate Or Other Cancer History?
ProudGrammy replied to gmanbat's topic in The Guys’ Room
hi GMNABAT I am a 10 year+ happy breast cancer survivor. (at that time no sleeve) I followed all the instructions my oncologist gave me - whether it was to take a new pill, chemo, or do this or that so i would survive even if i might gain weight. I'd rather be a survivor for the past 10 years,+ and live to tell about it and possibly might gain weight -than gain weight, but anable to tell my story Kathy -
Peanut Butter? Pureed Or Not Pureed? That Is My Question...
aroundhky replied to hope2Bfitand40's topic in Food and Nutrition
I started eating teaspoons of peanut butter the 2nd week and it was ok with my Dr. Has protein and since I started getting hungry the 2nd week, just a teaspoon of it helped satisfy me. Just make sure not to drink with it. It was tempting for me since peanut butter makes me so thirsty. But I didn't give in and 5-10 minutes after I eat it, the thrist goes away. -

mrs choof replied to mrs choof's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thankyou all for your replies. I'm not a big sleeper. I have been waking up every 2-3hours during the night for the past 8-10 years. Nobody can give me an answer to why, other then i'm not tired. Your right, I need to stop 'buying for the kids'. I am going for a fill tomorrow. Thanks again for the advice/support. -
My Post Op Diet Seems Less Strict Than Most Others
sarahcc replied to Squisha's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm scheduled for April 19 and I also have no liquid diet pre or post-op. I'm not able to have anything after midnight the night before surgery, and will probably be on liquid only for the two & a half days in the hospital. From there my stage 1 diet is pureed. Weeks 2-4 are soft foods and after week 4 (or whenever stage 2 food is well tolerated) is general diet. My pre-op is just low fat, low carb, high Protein. I'm getting sleeved in Milwaukee at the Froedtert Hospital & Medical College of WI. -
I'm sorry you all had to go through the misery but maybe that is what you needed to do. Remember, this is a work in progress. The band is not magical by itself. We have to do the work. Today was the perfect day for me to read this thread as today I finally get to start mushies. I too have thought for several days that I want to 'eat' something. I realize I will have to be very mindful of what I am doing. I was so looking forward to a scrambled egg this morning but I have a doctor's appointment (for my 10 day old cold/sinus infection) early this morning and I don't have time for the egg and she might want to do fasting blood on me to check out my thyroid so I think I will take a shake and have it afterwards. Thanks to all of you for my resolve. I have the rest of my life to eat.
