Hi Folks. I was sleeved 7/17. Just started puree and tried to eat in a restaurant. Tried to puree in my mouth. That didn't work. I'm having trouble getting water in. With you on the genepro I can taste and I'm so tired of it. I'm trying to go fully natural on puréed so I don't have to have shakes. I'm so tired of sickly sweet things. I've always struggled getting enough protein. Excited to be on this journey with you all. Eman

I've heard this too but also heard that carbonation is fine and it's the empty soda calories they really don't want you consuming since we have such a small area to get in nutrition. My doctor says no carbonation and i'm not a fan of soda so I won't drink it. How's everyone's 7th day post-op going? I had some setbacks yesterday and think I totally overdid it by walking around walmart early in the morning. My sutures are healing beautifully and i'm not even bruised but the large one was aching badly. I slept most of yesterday and was worried that i'd popped a staple because I was dizzy, nauseated, had blurry vision but think i'm just dehydrated. I called my doc's office and i'm actually on full liquids not just clear (YAY) until next Wednesday so i'm stoked to get something else in my belly. Still not doing great with protein and even the Genepro unflavored has a taste that grosses me out. I've been taking most of my Fusion bariatric chewables which are totally manageable and quite delicious. I went to lunch today with family at my favorite Puerto Rican restaurant and had to watch everyone eat but I was actually okay. I have no desire for food and sipped water and talked and laughed and had a great time.

I was on obesity help and you would think that genepro is worthless. I got so much shade on that site I deactivated my account. I am amazed at how much nicer this site is even when people don't agree they have been respectful. I'm going to do some more research on genepro and will let you know what I find out Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 199 GW 135

Dizziness in the morning, severe
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to TheBearguy8's topic in The Guys’ Room
You could be dehydrated!! This is a problem with WLS, if you don't get all of your fluids in you can become dizzy etc. Have you checked to see if your blood sugar is ok? When you mentioned that orange juice helped it could very well be a low blood sugar. I had major dizzyness early on plus heart palpatations big time. When I exercised it felt horrible. When I went into my PCP he was worried that it was my heart. He ordered a Stress test, first one was physical and the second test was ultra sound with medicine to stress my heart out. It was because of dehydration. I am 4 years out and I still struggle some with getting in my water. Mostly because I am a big coffee drinker!! But...I put GENEPRO in my Espresso and it has 30grams of protein in it. A WIN WIN for me!! It has 30grams of protein. Good Luck -
Have you tried Genepro it's unflavored and I just mixed it with 3oz. Of Starbucks light mocha frappucino and it saved my life because I too had a hard time getting anything to stay down right after surgery. Hope it helps.

I got genepro but folks on another site said it's not good and they list a lawsuit. I haven't been able to prove that yet. If anyone knows anything about that that can be proven please let me know. I love genepro, but want to make sure it's really 30g of protein. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 200 GW 135

Do I Smell Different?
Monkeyfulbrighter replied to cassiegurl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have genepro as well. I like 30g protein in such a small scoop but the powder makes things taste sweeter to me. But everything tastes sweet to me now.... -
Well like any STORE the silly answer to that is to make a living. To the OP-science behind genepro is questionable. Make sure and read the threads and do your research about it.

unflavored protein powder
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to Soni572's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Also I forgot to say...they sell GENEPRO at the BariatricPal store. If it was so bad for us would they be selling it? Just another thought. -
unflavored protein powder
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to Soni572's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Welll...I know I will get blasted about this because there are a few people that don't agree with my choice of Protein.. I love GENEPRO BTW I am 4 years out and I have tried sooo many Proteins I would hate to find out how much $$$ I actually have spent. So anyhow this is the only protein unflavored which is unflavored. I mix it in my Espresso every day. It cost a little more but oh so worth it. Good Luck -
Complications
Monkeyfulbrighter replied to MystiqueArielle13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That sucks but I understand completely. If I didn't try to hide unflavored protein powder (Genepro, little scope is 30 g protein) then I wouldn't reach even my meager amount. I'm instructed for 60-70g a day. And not getting the protein stunts weightloss but when i try to drink something with protwin my throat gets tight and i get nausea and acid reflux. It's been rough and hoping to all hell i get bettter by 7 weeks. It is keeping me from working or leaving the house. Just sucks -
Hey doll. So I peeped jello and soup broth last night. It's important to get it done so you can grab and go and not starve. I also prepped G2 with Genepro protein from gNC

Protein Shake problem
gwbicster replied to Jerseygirl21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure if you are aware of the controversy regarding Genepro, just FYI. I am a user and am happy with it, BUT... It is physically impossible for 30 grams of anything in a tablespoon. The real figure is 15 grams. However, Genepro claims a propriatary formula which allows for better absorption of the protein which is equivalent to 30 grams of the competitor's formula. Many people think this is poppycock. I have read the documentation and tend to believe it is at least in part possible. However, they are being sued for false advertising. Just a FYI. Buyer beware. -
Protein Shake problem
SunsUp replied to Jerseygirl21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't handle the thick shakes with a sinus issue as i started twk weeks liquid. Bought GenePro at GNC. 30 grams a tablespoon. No taste. No grit. No clumps. Looks murky when mixed but it works and is easy on the stomach. Maybe it'll help you too. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Have u tried genepro protein mix? I can't do protein drink either and genepro is flavorless and doesn't change the consistency of the drink. I mix mine in my coffee every morning.. it will take some time to figure out what u can eat and not eat.. I couldn't drink water up until like a week ago.. I live off of chicken salad, tuna, fish and shrimp lol

Jesus, the "discussion" about Genepro just won't go away. Sherrie in particular appears to love bringing this topic up for discussion. Here is a recent thread of hers about it: If you were do do a search of this forum for Genepro, you would find 1,583 results.(Genpro returns 112). There is nothing new that can be said of this. In the company's own words: They are saying their 10g of special protein is equivalent to 30g whey. Genepro is not backed by science but marketing.

Choosing a Protein
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to faithmel's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I just typed down below that the BARIATRICPAL STORE sells GENEPRO!! If it was so bad do you think they would sell it to their customers. There has been many discussions on this. But...I have used it and I love it. I think you should first ask the people that run this program and ask them all about it. Sometimes people get carried away because they believe they are right so investagate please!! -
Choosing a Protein
Navigating the Wilderness replied to faithmel's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am getting to the point where I truly believe if you asked 100 different surgeons, you would have 100 different answers to this question. Well, maybe more depending on whom you asked in the office! So, to answer your question, I would always say the safest route is to follow what the Surgeon recommended. I know this is kind of a cop out, but if you want to be in compliance, then I seriously would consider using what they tell you to use. I was directed to use only Unjury, or Isopure. I used both, they were fine, my guess is any other legit protein maker would have been fine as well. Legit being defined as one that has at least 20g of protein per serving, and is not filled with sugar. Also excluding Genepro here, I hate to even list that product in a post, but just in case someone tells you to use it. Search the forum if you want to know why. As for the vitamins, this is even more important than the protein when it comes to following your surgeon's guidelines. Obviously you will need higher doses of vitamins than non-bariatric users to make up for what you are missing. If you want to use a different brand than what your doctor recommends, just do a nutritional label check and make sure they have the same amounts of vitamins. Of course, not all vitamins are created equal either, even if they say they have the same Daily Value percentage. So, once again, especially in the beginning, stick to what the surgeon recommended. Congrats on your first steps in this journey. I wish you many successes in the future!! -
Coffee after gastric sleeve
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to shericrazylady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am a coffee fiend!! I have always drank coffee since I was a young kid. I never gave up my coffee. Right after I was released from the hospital and I had to stay in a Motel until my 1 week check up I didn't want anything to do with coffee at all. I did get over that pretty quickly. I was never told to nor drink it. In fact at most of my follow ups I had a big cup og joe with me!! I know put GENEPRO in my Espresso everyday. It is a win win for me because I would drink the coffee anyway. -

Vitamin and Protein Brands ???
Jdserra replied to A.Better.Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use GenePro in my coffee every morning. No taste to it. Dissolves completely. 30g of protein in one small scoop but I've been told it's actually half of that. I'm ok with that! 15g first thing in the morning is great! Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app -
Knox Gelatine - I add a packet of plain to every cup of broth, 8 more protein and no taste. Try consume, it's a clarified, high protein broth. Some ladies in the support group I found said they use Genepro. They add it to everything they drink, dissolves in hot or cold. Also, add 2 pits of Knox to the jello - gives extra protein and tones down the sweet. And like everyone else says, hang in there! Day 5 I hit my breaking point. Today I'm 9 days out and in a much better head space!
