  1. I had surgery July 2018 and was 390 at my heaviest. The day of surgery I was 368 and today I am 257. I have lost 133 pounds! Weight loss is definitely harder at 9 months out. I am trying to go to the gym three times a week, but I can’t always make it due to my work commute and kid obligations. My goal is to make it to 230 by my one year anniversary this summer, but I am almost doubting myself. I lost weight quickly during the honeymoon period so at five months I had already lost well over 100 pounds, but sticking to a plan and hoping for a positive outcome. The best part is dropping six pant sizes. I use to be a 26/28 and now size 16 in regular woman section. The biggest NSV has been able to fit and ride in a roller coaster after almost 18 years of riding one for the last time. I rode 4 roller coasters with my boys a few weeks ago at an amusement park. Looking forward to traveling in an airplane next week without having to use a seatbelt extender. Congrats to all on your success!
  2. Hey! I'm almost a year out and I've lost about 110 pounds! Some of the biggest things I can tell you are the following: 1. As someone mentioned above, try not to compare yourself to others. Your body is different than everyone else's (height, weight, metabolism, etc) so focus on yourself! One of the best tools I got was a smart scale (I believe I got mine from Amazon for like 35 bucks?). It connects to an app on my iPhone and tracks weight trends, body fat, muscle mass, etc... I know that a lot of these body composition measurements are not super accurate, but having a general idea of the trend is reassuring. I would also recommend doing body measurements (I do mine every 3 months). Whenever I feel like I'm really stalling, I look back at my app and look at the little graph from the last 11 months and think "Wow, ok I did that." and it makes things a little bit easier. 2. Don't buy a ton of clothes right away... you're going to lose a lot of weight and your body is going to change. Look at thrift and resale stores for a few items every now and then to get a few things but if there's anything you really want (for me, it was a pair of really nice jeans) wait until you're almost to your goal or you hit a huge milestone and treat yourself! 3. Keep a list of personal NSV (non-scale victories)... I do this on the notes app on my phone. Whenever I am feeling down about myself or having a stall in my weight loss! In my opinion, the NSV's are more important than the numbers on the scale because I made this change for a better quality of life, not to see a certain number on the scale. Some of my favorite NSV on my journey thus far was buying size 2 jeans, having to get a new drivers license because people didn't believe it was me, and my personal favorite, being able to cross my legs while sitting. Wishing you the best journey!
  3. NSV this morning! I decided to try on a pair of size 16 jeans (from a plus size clothing store, so we all know they're probably closer to a size 18) and THEY FIT WITH ROOM TO SPARE! I haven't fit into these jeans comfortably for about 5 years. Woohoo! I have a serious love-hate relationship with this pre-op diet.

I remember when I thought sz 12 was BIG!!!

Woohoo! great NSV. Congrats and rock that pair of jeans.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

No, not an NSV, because I don't think there's one of us who wants it! More like a lost-weight penalty!

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

This carrying stuff is a new one for me and this thread is hilarious. While I have been lifted a few times😜 I do not remember my husband ever carrying me anywhere except over the threshold of our new house purchased a month after our wedding. I feel left out....are y'all counting this as a NSV??

    Non Scale Victories

2 NSV's at my checkup today: 1) my body fat percentage is 31% which puts me in the "acceptable"/"average" range for women. yay! 2) i have a thigh gap (of sorts)! had to take off my clothes and stand with my feet 6-8" apart, and lo and behold light could be seen shining between my legs (ok, that sounded weird).

NSVs are amazing - my surgery was 5/31/18, I reached my surgeons goal on Sunday. Down 95lbs and ready to maintain. I bought all new pants In January and they are all too big now. I am now a size 8! Never in my life have I been an 8! I was an 18-20 when I had the surgery. I can feel actual bones under my skin - that’s new. my goal was to be the weight I was when I was married 15 years ago. I am 25lbs past that. I have never felt this good. The best decision I have ever made for myself

    Non Scale Victories

This is a very non-specific NSV - but I feel FANTASTIC! All of a sudden, 13 months out, I feel absolutely amazing. I don't want to scare any newbies, I had issues that you are very unlikely to experience. But, I have felt so-so or downright crappy for so long that I had accepted that as my new normal. But now, I have to set the record straight. Yippee! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
  10. NSV to me. I'm back at my ticker weight. 137.2lbs. (thank you poopie and porcelain god) but even more importantly!!! Yesterday was senior day at Goodwill (30% off) and I spent $27.00 and bought my summer shorts wardrobe. And a darling Jones of NY black skirt (short). I think I got like 6 pairs of shorts and a skirt for that. Score! They were all size 8 and size Mediums except for one size 10 and none of them were stretchy fabrics! Wooohoooo. Gosh I (sparkleheart) my tool and my WOL!!! Thanks for inspiring me to continue my IF and my LCHF (low carb healthy fat) diet. (Oh you know I will ho it up with piccys as I get them washed and ironed!) haha!

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

My April 2nd offering is a combine of # 1 and 10. For #1,i have a NSV, well there is a little scale in there also. I dropped a size in less than a month, Now a 20'22( 2 X )from my faithful old 26W, I'm a little perturbed I had bought a pair of pull- up denim pants, and now the pull-up is fall- down .Only wore them once, been hanging in closet, and now, short of suspenders, I can't wear them! And #10 I am proud of my 30 pound weight loss in just one, month. I have felt very hateful toward my body, I had tried. all those diets, and it constantlyfought and failed me. Thank you body for helping me now to,lose, it's got to be 50% or more working with surgery, but I think you do ❤me after all And I'm going to stop putting you down, you're a good body after all. Might rub you with some sweet smelling lotion, make you feel all soft and smooth. Lets be best friends from now on!

A belated Thank You Ed, yeah I hope I do make it there, only 27 more years, after all. Woke up,with my upper arm paining. I hope my,ortho can get it fixed up by removing my hardware that's been there for 9 years since I broke it at work, and Workmans Comp wheels grind very slow, especially when it,is against an self- insured ex- employer. They can be in No Hurry to settle. Suspect, they may have been saying, novena for my early, demise, but fooled them- I kept on living! But this arm is impinging on my Life quality, had to pop a Norco so I could sleep at 3 AM. Got myself a special heating pad from Sunbeam with Velcro straps, I does help a lot, takes the pain down to a dull roar but you aren't allowed to sleep with one on! And chrissymcm08, I take 60 mg of Dexilent each AM before good. Omeprazole WAS NOT GASTROPROTECTIVE for me, ulcerated under therapy, from my gastroenterologist in late 2017, when they put me on it again post- surgery I developed 2 in my brand- New pouch, and a string of them down my jejunem(second section,of small intestine) and that war is finally being solved when they permitted me to revert,to Dexilent in November. I am the exception to their rule, and I doubt,i ever will be able,to stop this PPI. My firm feelings since I went into this with a history of gastritis and Hector, my then sleeping small Gastric Ulcer, I should have been on Carafate also from the very beginning, never was started until 6 weeks in and we are STILL playing catch-up. That may be why they say Doctors practice, there is always a patient who teaches them One Size does not fit all. Goody my Norco has kicked in, the arm pain is letting up some, do not abuse them, this is still from my Going-home prescription last September. And besides if I were to depend on them like I had to post my last knee replacement in February 2017, I would have gone into ostipation, that's constipation to the INTH degree! Had to call out major laxatives to get relief from THAT! Feared, at the time, a stick of dynamite was next----- KABOOM KABOOM!💩 But you live-- you learn---and you learn to play the cards you're given in the Game of Life. And I still call my surgery Day the 5th greatest blessing after marriage💍 and the birth of my 3 babies👶. It has been a Life with a lot if Joys, I do have my NSVs, different than some but then we each have an individualized road to ✌ Victory. And yeah with a RnY I was and am GERD -free, And all the rest, it's bottom- line Good after All.😝

I haven't lost much yet - and was feeling a little discouraged, truth be told. But I had a couple of NSVs today that cheered me up. First, I am very short (5ft) and have a top loading washing machine. I would have trouble reaching down to the bottom to empty it, and it would hurt my upper belly where the metal would be digging into me trying to reach down. Well today, I was not only able to reach the bottom, but could do it without impaling myself on the lip of the tub. And I went to get my hair trimmed - first time since surgery. One of the places where I have noticeably lost weight is my face - I had no neck, just a massive wobbly double chin that looked like a goiter. Now it's disappearing. Before when I got my hair cut, I would be too embarrassed to look in the mirror - hating my fat, round face. Today I watched in the mirror and actually smiled at myself and didn't feel self-conscious or embarrassed.

    New here 😁

Hi and welcome aboard 👋🏻. Take your measurements. Often when the scales not moving you will see you’re losing inches . That’s not going to give you immediate relief since you’ll obviously have to wait til the next measurement drop but everything we can do to assure ourselves that it’s working. And congratulation on already being down 22 lbs!! That’s awesome!!! Start looking for other NSV’s (non scale victories). Your necklines are hanging lower, the seatbelt in the car isn’t feeling so tight or hitting you in a different place, you can bend down easier , you can walk longer or with less pain. No matter how small start recognizing them for what they are, HUGE progress to a healthier you! Good luck on your journey 👍🏻

    New here 😁

Welcome to Bariatric Pal. Many people encounter stalls along the way. Someone on this site coined a phase to describe this condition. It was "Embrace the Stall". So if you are not losing the weight at the moment then focus on other wins. Such as a drop in clothing size or throwing a medical condition such as diabetes into remission. Sometimes these are referred to as NSV which means non-scale victories. They can be simple things like fitting into an airline seat without using a seat belt extender.

That is such an amazing NSV!! Glad to see you are doing well!
  20. it’s true! many of us bounce back from surgery, had no complications, lose weight and keep it off. It seems that new people are not getting a balance look at weight loss surgery. I would love to hear all the positive stories. People with no complications. Many people gravitate to the negative experiences. It will fuel your surgery anxiety. Non Scale Victories

I’ve always seen those girls who can sit cross legged (Indian style I guess) in their office chairs and I was always too big for that. This week I can officially sit like that in my chair like that and not be uncomfortable. A weird NSV but it makes me happy 😃

    NSV's Spring 2019 Edition

Exercise NSV today! I walked 5k on the treadmill in 1 hour 7 minutes. I’ve never walked more than 40 minutes on the treadmill so this was a big accomplishment for me. I I entered a 5k that’s in a couple weeks so it’s very motivating. 😊

    March Bypass Buddies

Yesterday marked two weeks since surgery and I’ve been feeling good. Saw my surgeon and all is healing well. I went back to work on Wednesday and am just a little tired. I’m in the purée stage and have been handling that well, but get full so fast I’m not getting all my protein in but am hitting my water goals. I’m still really sensitive to smells and struggle with my vitamins (they stink!) haha so I’m trying out the patches. my first NSV happened the other day - I was able to fit into a pair of jeans that would go past my hips the day before surgery 😊 hope everyone one is well and sending those who have upcoming surgery well wishes!
