  1. I’d question the fitbit too. You’d have to run for around four hours to burn 3000 calories & lift weights for about 8 hours. https://www.stylecraze.com/articles/how-to-burn-3000-calories-a-day/ Remember, exercise contributes to only about 10% of any weight you want to lose. Many benefits to exercising of course but don’t make it your focus for weight loss. I didn’t ‘exercise’ & I lost all my weight & more but that was because my body’s new set point was a weight lower than my goal. But I am an outlier & beat the average stats of losing about 65% of the weight you are to lose with a sleeve. I agree with @learn2cook’s suggestion to speak with your dietician & your surgeon may help too. All the best.

I am proud of you hanging in there. It will be 19 days since surgery. Had a couple of rough days. Learning the difference between physical and mental hunger. Got to find different things to do. Not focusing on 2hat to eat next. Stay strong.

I had my surgery 10/20 I’m still in the hospital because I wasn’t able to progress to stage two. I have been having trouble keeping fluids down. Things have improved these past few hours though so I’m hoping to get back home tomorrow.

    When did you stop losing

I had a sleeve 23 months ago and I honestly I think I have only just stopped losing now. It was half a pound a month or less for about the last 4-6 months, but still a downwards trajectory. Just really really slow! Totally believe that my body has found its new 'set weight'. In the last 10 months I've lost 10lbs. That was faster earlier in the year and then really slowed down, obviously. In the 13 months before that I lost 130lbs. 💪 Best of luck to you OP - you still have loads of time to hit your goal weight!

    Pain a week after surgery

I am 10 weeks out from surgery and felt a lot of pain for those first 4 weeks. Could not bend over to tie my shoes, felt like something was pulling in one area on my left side, dull aches everywhere in my abdomen. A giant, flat ice pack was my friend... the kind that you would find in a physical therapist's office. I have a couple on had for an unrelated knee issue. Here is where I got mine: https://www.optp.com/Chattanooga-ColPac Looks like there are some on Amazon, too. I was fortunate to be able to lay around for those first couple of weeks at least. Truly hope you feel better soon!
  6. Check your blood sugar when this happens. This sounds like what happens to me and it is reactive hypoglycemia and happens if I eat too many fast digesting carbs. My glucose will go into the 50’s and I need to eat 5- 10g or so fast acting carbs to raise it back again. (But not too many or it will keep swinging) This is something I have developed since having sleeve surgery over 10 years ago and the only way to control it is with diet and not eating high sugary volume of stuff.

    When did you stop losing

my weight stabilized just a little after one year post post mark, but this was due to a months-long effort to stop weight loss by slowly increasing calories. reached goal at 7 months post (consuming sub-800 cals a day). upped calories after that lost another 10+lbs until around 14 months post when i stabilized (around 2000 cals a day) BUT this is NOT to say i stopped losing and/or gaining forever. i am 5 yrs post now and i have recently lost about 10 lbs in the last few months. it really just depends on one's metabolism and food consumption...the trick is to figure out what your sweet spot is (given your current activity level)

    When did you stop losing

I stopped at 10 months, when I reached my goal weight, but things really slowed down those last couple of months... 1 or 2 pounds a month. I see that your goal weight requires you to lose another 40 lbs. I don't want to be discouraging, but that's going to be hard given the front loaded trajectory of weight loss surgery. Keep going, but there is a limit. It will be increasingly hard to maintain 800-1000 calories... and no matter how low you keep your calories, the body eventually stops cooperating. Congratulations on all of your hard work and tremendous success!

Whole carbs or net carbs? How to break a stall?

This whole time I have been counting net carbs. And it has worked so far, but I have just been trying to figure out how to start my weight loss back up. My nutritionist finally emailed me like 10 minutes ago. She says that I should count whole carbs because counting net carbs may slow weight loss. So, I will try it her way and see what happens. I just also worry about getting enough fiber. I have to take Benefiber as is. I just feel like now I will be really more limited in what I can eat and it makes me sad. Lol.
  10. HELP!! I’m 2 yrs post op lost 130 lbs I eat pretty healthy trying to eat low carbs , low sugar . Recently I can eat anything but especially carbs , and not even 10 min after I have something on my stomach I absolutely go into these “episodes” I call them . Where I start sweating like I’m exercising, profusely dripping wet , rapid heartbeat, , and it last from 30 min to an hour and afterwards I literally feel like I’ve been through a battle . What the heck is happening?

    One year post op

Congratulations! It's an amazing feat to lose over 150 pounds. That's pretty much a whole person! 😀 I've only lost a little over 51 pounds in 14 months after surgery, but I'm still super happy to finally be under BMI 30 and also to be under 90 kilos (198 pounds) for the first time in more than 10 years. After years of yo yo dieting, and all kinds of supplements, diets and exercise plans, this was the only thing that worked. Even though BMI is not an exact science, it still feels so great to be simply "overweight" and no longer obese. I hope everyone here will experience that and more!
  12. I would definitely say for the first few weeks don’t be discouraged! When I got home from the hospital I was 10 lbs heavier and it took some time to get that off and actually start losing. Also for myself I thought I could still eat at the speed I used to which was a big mistake that I’m still working on even now! I need to chew throughly or my stomach will definitely hurt. I’ve gotten better though because my first few months I would either throw things up or get the foamies. Lastly I can still tolerate things like sugar in small amounts but you’ll quickly learn that it really just depends on what it is. I’ve eaten a donut with no problem but then a few weeks ago I had a small bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and was in the bathroom 3 times in an hour. I do mostly sugar free things but occasionally I’ll have something with regular sugar so it’s good that I know what I can and can’t tolerate.

  14. Hello, I just joined bariatricpal as of about 10 minutes ago. For the past year i have been trying to complete my packet from my doctor in order to get my surgery date scheduled. it has been one issue after another, referrel issues, getting the doctor's office to get me the information in need, having to make appointments 6 months away, etc. I'm curious to see if anyone has had mini gastric bypass and if so, where did you go and how has it been? Thank you!

    October 2023 surgery buddies

Hi Liz! I had a sleeve on 10/9/23. I have had two challenges with swallowing: (1) my soft palate (back of the roof of my mouth) was destroyed by the intubation and it really hurt to swallow! It has just started improving today; (2) I sometimes forget and take a BIG swallow instead of a sip and my body immediately reminds me that was too much! I'll get like 5-10 seconds of what feels kind of like mild heartburn until the liquid works it way through. It's not too painful, but it's definitely uncomfortable. Otherwise, the liquid diet is pretty miserable. But it's only for 3 weeks. I figure I can do anything for 3 weeks, considering the benefit on the other end!
  16. im 5 years post. at this point i eat what i feel for, when i feel for it. i don't avoid anything except large amounts of sugar in one sitting (or on an empty stomach cuz im a dumper) everything else is fair game. yes i eat chips and chocolate and hot dogs (with buns!) and all sorts of deep fried stuff and drink alcohol along with my salads and roasted veggies and sashimi and grilled chicken breasts. normally (not right now cuz im super sick), i eat about 1800-ish cals a day without gaining or losing any unintended weight, and can consume roughly 1 cup-ish of food "material" in volume in one sitting. more if its salad, less if its dense meat or fluffy bread. give me a couple hours and i can down another cup of food. so long as my cals stay around 1800 a day, it doesn't matter whats its made up of...at least from a weight gain/loss perspective. from a health-wise perspective, well that is likely another story...cuz im sure 1800 cals of chicken breast is better for my body than 1800 cals of buttered popcorn. so far so good as my last labs (this time last year) were a-ok. we'll see what this years labs say when i get them done at end of month. i realize i haven't really answered either of ur questions. for the latter, i can't really comment, but for the former, below is a screenshot of what i ate when i was 8 months post op (trusty ol MFP!) note i had already reached goal and was in the process of upping my calories to settle into maintenance at this time. it took me another 2-3 months and another 10+ lbs lost before i figured out what my maintenance calories were. (sorry this was so long!)

    Good protein powder clear

I buy Hydrolyzed whey protein isolate at Bulksupplements.com because: 1. Made from high-quality whey protein, its hydrolyzed to make it easier for your body to absorb. Plus, it's packed with branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) to help promote muscle growth and recovery. Plus, this particular protein powder is also a rich source of leucine. 2. It has no flavor, I've mixed it with eggs, yogurt, shakes, chilli and protein balls, but I've even tried it plain just to see if it had flavor - none! 3. Bulk supplements also third party laboratory tests all products for purity, effectiveness and clean products. 4. 26 grams protein at 110 calories with a great amino acid profile! 5. Use their app and get 10% off too! 6. You can order different quantities depending on your needs. They offer subscribe and save which helps! Hope this helps.

    Weight gain s/p bypass

I imagine price might have something to do with the reason your doctor is starting with this one. I've never taken it, but I looked up the price and it's very affordable, like under $10 at some pharmacies. If this works for you, affording it long term will be a breeze. The newer GLP-1 drugs might sound so much better in terms of effectiveness, but at over $1k a month, I'd be praying for something else to work!

    New to the group!

I had a band. Wish I never had. They are only temporary, have to be replaced in 10 years. Mine caused permanent stomach and liver damage. Ended up having to revise to RNY. Good luck.

    sleeve reset was successful

So good to hear! I’m 10 years out (sleeve) and have regained back 40 of the 80 lbs I initially lost. I never could lose any more than the initial 80 lbs. I never met goal and remember how upset I was over that. Oh how I wish I was still there now! I’m happy to hear your reset worked for you. I need to make a real commitment and go back to the basics. I’ve been ‘grazing’ for too long!
  22. Hello Everyone, Im having surgery on 10/18/23 and I am excited about it but I wonder if my A1c will push back my surgery. Do anyone have any knowledge of this?

  24. Hi All! My name is Jill and I had my VSG on Oct. 2, 2023. My surgeon was Dr. Bilof at Garden State Bariatrics in Millburn, NJ. The doctor and office staff are wonderful. I felt taken care of every step of the way since my initial consult in April, 2023. I am back to work and doing very well. My main issue was my emetophobia (fear f being sick). I have not felt nauseous or gotten sick. I took anti-emetics a few times when my stomach felt sensitive. I also did not have much pain. I took Percocet for a few nights to ensure a good night's rest. Otherwise, Tylenol worked fine. I had a headache for a few days, but I am also prone to them. I also had about two days where I was not well mentally as I already suffer from anxiety and depression; this after-effect is something that is not talked about enough, in my opinion. Know that "this too shall pass" and you will be A-OK soon enough. I started at 215 lbs. and was down to 199 lbs. by Oct. 10 (8 days out). Like I said, I am doing well and nothing has been too hard for me to get used to. I would recommend following your diet instructions, take time to eat and drink, and trust your body. I had felt like the post-op journey was so hard and my life will never be the same. On the contrary, I already feel like a healthier and better version of me! Good luck to everyone! 💖
