Had my sleeve surgery yesterday!!! (10/10/18)
oct102018 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey guys! I'm new to this app and wanted to go head and do my first post. I had the sleeve surgery done yesterday (Wednesday around noon) I'm a 29 year old female (I'll be 30 in December 😳) my starting weight was 254.8 and After my 3 day clear liquid diet I was 246.8 the morning of surgery. I'm still in the hospital and hoping to be discharged tomorrow (Friday) Waking up in the recovery room I'll be honest was hell. pretty sure I wasn't on pain meds but if I was they deff wasn't working. Got moved to my room and was just in horrible horrible pain for a good hour straight. I had shortness of breathe and found myself taking deep gasps of air. I finally got to take 2 small pain pills (taking 5 mins apart) and was okay after and was in and out of sleep. I made sure to get the meds every 3 hours. As for nausea, I only felt it for a min before I took my first dose of medicine and I think it was just from all the pain I was in. I stayed in the bed all day prob until 8 or 10 pm until I had to use the restroom. Getting out of the bed was a little rough but just going slow is the key. Today is going better, I have walked a few times and been up more to use the bathroom and best of all I was finally able to get a shower!! Lol. I been burping and just focusing on getting my sips in. It's still a little hard to get up from out of the bed but I'm just telling myself each day that passes I'll feel a little better. Now that I shared my story I'm thinking about making a IG strictly for my sleeve progress. Only a handful of people know about my surgery so it will be a private page. I haven't made the page yet but if you have one too and wanna leave your usernames I'll add everyone soon 😁 -
Just got my surgery date! Please share any words of wisdom you can about surgery day and your recovery. My surgery is on a Monday. Expected hospital stay is 1 night. Any advice on how many days I will need round the clock care? And for those who have done the Robar diet ahead of surgery please share your fav foods and the worse one. TIA!

Hi All, So I am 10 months PO and I have a small bump/ball like item in my abdomen, maybe a little up and to the side of the large incision area. I had a CT scan a couple of weeks ago and everything showed up fine. Has anyone else had this? I asked to be put back on Protonix, as I think this started happening a little after the 3 months I was on it right after surgery... and my doctor just put me on Hyoscyamine to see if that would help as well. I dont have pain... it's just a annoyance as if I am leaning to the right side too long it's like HELLO! I'M HERE!... and then I readjust and it goes away. Thank you!

Any Eviva LSG Patients? I'm scheduled for 10/22
Kathy10/22 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum, but hope to connect with others to get support, information, etc. I'm scheduled for my surgery 10/22 with Dr. Peter Billing at Eviva in WA State. I'm excited but a bit nervous, since this will be such a life changing thing. Any words of wisdom for me from those who've gone through it? Thanks! -
Anyone else going on the bench this day? If so when are you starting liquids and going to soft foods? I would like to find someone with a similar date- to help hold me accountable, as well as for moral support. I am going to most likely head into surgery alone as my family lives out of town- and so I am a bit nervous about it. However I know it will be a great thing.

It’s really going to happen! VSG in 19 days!
BelleOfBatonRouge posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got off the phone with my surgical coordinator. It’s really going to happen. I have me pre-op meeting with the nutritionist on Monday, pre-op tests and meeting with my doctor Tuesday, and the 2 week liquid diet starts next Wednesday. I feel like I just won the lottery. I have so many questions running through my head. I am not worried about the actual surgery, but I know the 2 week liquid diet is going to suck. But I am so ready. -

I feel worse than I did right after surgery. Horrible pain in the core of my abdomen and such nauseaCat scan, bloodwork came back fine but no one gave me an explanation as to why I feel so miserable! any experiences like this? 😢😢 -

Started Pre-Op Diet Yesterday. Surgery is 10/8
Twism44 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello all. Yesterday I started my pre-op diet. Surgery is set for 10/8. I guess this thing is really happening. I'm a little nervous about some things like the anesthesia, post-op diet, stuck food/dumping, loose skin, etc. I find that this forum helps but it also can be a little scary. Until finding my way to this site, I was unaware of the chances of post-op depression from missing food. That does not sound like fun. Regardless, I'm here and going through with it. My main reason is quality of life as I age. I'm 48 and know if I don't lose weight I'll be facing some major health issues as I get older. Thanks for letting me vent. I have faith that it will turn it fine but won't be easy. -

Why bariatric surgery wait times have nearly doubled in 10 years...
Born in Missouri posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So why do patients face longer wait times to receive bariatric surgery compared with surgeries to treat other life-threatening conditions such as cancer and heart disease? . One big reason: Many insurance companies (including Medicaid) require those seeking bariatric surgery to lose weight before their surgery, even though there's no data or evidence to prove preoperative weight loss affects long-term success. Patients with complex medical histories enrolled in Medicaid experienced the longest delays. Nonwhite patients also waited longer... Smokers and patients with high cholesterol or psychological disorders also had longer wait times for bariatric surgery. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/07/180730090141.htm How long did it take before you had your surgery? How long did you wait calculated from your first visit to your date of surgery? What requirements or obstacles did your insurance carrier impose? Supervised weight loss attempts? Were you told that you had to lose weight during those attempts… and that any weight gain would impede your path to surgery? Did you have to meet with a psychologist, nutritionist, and attend required bariatric surgery classes before your surgery was submitted to your insurance for surgery approval? For those who were self-pay… did you circumvent your insurance carrier because of the obstacles/delays imposed by your carrier, because your BMI or other insurance mandated requirements did not make you “eligible” or because you had no bariatric benefits? -

Help please! Trying to figure out fitness/calorie/macro plan to lose the last 10 lbs!
ebroms17 posted a topic in Fitness & Exercise
So...I currently weigh 138 at 5'1". I have no idea what my accurate BF% is because I've lost 130 lbs this year thanks to a modified duodenal switch surgery (aka Loops DS/SIPS) that also helped address my PCOS symptoms. Oddly enough, I'm a size 2/4 at this height and weight. I have a lot of loose skin, some of which I'm getting addressed at the end of September with a tummy tuck and brachioplasty, so I'm hoping to lose some more inches that way and get a more realistic understanding of my weight and measurements (although I'll still have loose skin left on my thighs and butt and boobs, but my stomach and arms are definitely the biggest problems.) My cals are a bit weird because the amount I can eat (and the amount recommended for someone who's had my surgery due to malabsorption/less room in the stomach for food) makes my average calories around 1000-1400/day depending on whether it's a workout or rest day (this is cutting.) But I need to figure out how to calcualte my TDEE with adjustments for my limitations due to the surgery as well as macros. Does anyone know how to appropriately do this after WLS? I do SoulCycle 3-4x a week and do toning (eg: barre) or weight training 2-3x a week and have been doing this for about a month. I haven't lost a single pound but have lost 1/2 an inch on my waist and an inch each on my thighs, hips, and calves. Measurements: Waist: 27.5" Hips: 36" Bust: 32" Thighs: 20.5"- 1 reply

So hard to believe it was 10 weeks ago today, we just got back from a 7 day cruise where I took baby bites of pretty much anything I wanted but I didn't overstep anything because I definitely didn't want to spend my vacation sick. I'm so happy to say I lost 4 lb on our seven day cruise which puts me at a total of 69 pounds lost in 10 weeks. I am so excited about the weight loss my surgeon seems definitely very pleased and knock on wood I haven't had any sickness I did have about a 20 to 30-minute bout with the foamies. Which was not very pleasant whatsoever and I researched it to kind of see what could have caused it. So I hope everybody is doing well good luck with everybody that's on either side of the bench and just keep up the great work. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello. Just joined this group today. I had my bypass on 8/1 and am feeling a different kind of pain today. It is a tightness and pain around the main incision (not the incision itself), but only when I move or bend. If I am sitting still, I feel fine. Is this normal? Thanks for any insight.

day 10 and if I don't have an espresso soon, there will be hell to pay.
nevertoolate posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi! Love you crazy kids. Anyhow. How serious is the no caffeine thing? Is one espresso really going to kill me? Had my surgery 10 days ago and I can tolerate literally hundreds of ounces of water per day. I'd be happy to drink extra water to make up for any dehydration as a result of my caffeine intake. But seriously. I need some zing to do my job. Thoughts? Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Pain under left rib cage 10 days post op
Leanbean posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had vsg surgery about a week and a half ago. (7/24) Everything going great until I woke up with sharp pain under my left rib cage yesterday morning. Hurt to take a deep breath, cough, sneeze, laugh, etc. Sometimes would radiate to my shoulder/collar bone. Pain continues today. I’ve had similar pain like this intermittently since surgery. Originally it was gas but 10-11 days out? I don’t think so.... Saw my surgeon yesterday and he felt it was muscular/nerve pain. Advised warm soaks. I don’t have fever/chills, SOB, increased heart rate, etc. Although so scared that I have a leak!! Has anyone else gone through this? I’m debating whether I should take myself to ER and get scanned for piece of mind........Help!
