What Are You Eating At 8 Weeks
Willow216 replied to marimar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 12 wks out and I can't eat the things I did before, I don't eat rice, potatoes, pasta it bothers my stomach and I have no taste for it. I eat maybe one slice of weight watchers whole wheat with an egg in the morning but that is as far as my carbs go, the rest of the day is my Isopure shake and Fish, Shrimp, Chicken Breast or turkey. Right now that is it. -
My body is super sensitive to fills as well. I only have about 4ccs in an 11cc band. My fills have to be relatively small or I . swell shut. I got a .75cc fill yesterday and spent most of the evening swollen shut. Today I am getting coffee to go down, so far, but know that I would be in a mess if I even attempted thin mashed potatoes for at least another 12 hours. I will be good in a day or so and will be able to eat regular food, just smaller portions, again. I do drop close to ten pounds each time I get a fill like this, though. I like this kind. Makes it go fast. I then stall for about three weeks but it gives my body time to adjust to the weight loss. It seems to work well for my body and my system. That first 24 hours is rough at times, especially if I swell completely shut. I have done the ER thing to get a bit out but we only take enough to be able to get some Water down and then we stop there because the swelling will go away.

Lose Weight before surgery
KristinaRN replied to apple4dteacher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by the insurance coordinator at my surgeons office, and by the insurance company, that your approval is based on your INITIAL weight and BMI. I clarified this with both of them because my starting BMI was only 40, so losing even a few pounds on the 6 month diet will make my BMI below the minimum. I am still nervous though! -
Lose Weight before surgery
Day Dreamer replied to apple4dteacher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suppose it is unique based on your insurance. My CoE said that I could not lose because I was already borderline BMI. They do have everyone do a 2 week, low carb, pre op diet. During the seminar a lady with UHC asked if she lost weight would she be denied and they told her that it was possible. At this point, I think the insurance companies are looking for any reason not to cover the surgery, so I am not going to give them one. Good Luck -
Looking for some insight from post-ops, as I'm still pre-op. How was your hypothyroidism managed post sleeve? Are you able to hold down meds? Did your dosing change as you lost weight? Has anyone's thyroid returned to normal range/function? Thanks so much!

:help: I have a question, I know someone that went to have the lap-band put back on and due to the past procedures she had to much damage, so it was not done, but instead she said they had shortened or rather cut some of her intestine ?line, to be able to make it shorter so she would go to the bathroom more and it would take less time for digestion and she would lose weight. I have heard of something like this on tv. But didnt know what it is called, and is it Dangerous? Do you have any clue what I am talking about? If so could you please tell me what this procedure is called, so I can check it out I was curious if this was crap or not? Thank you so much...:help:

Well I haven't really lost any weight in the past couple weeks. Still 27lbs down and stuck at 252lbs! :bored I had my first fill 2 weeks ago and I do feel some restriction, but I am still able to eat quite a bit. I started counting calories last week to try to get this scale to move. I've been staying under 1000cal/day so I'm hoping that helps. I haven't weighed myself since Tuesday, but I will when I go to the hospital tomorrow for my 2nd fill. I absolutely hate counting calories so I'm hoping with proper restriction I won't have to. We'll see if the second fill will get me there! I have less than 2 weeks left for Las Vegas and was hoping to lose 13lbs by then. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen so I'll take ANY loss at this point. On a positive note, I've been working out everyday and my body is definitely changing so I feel good about that!!!

@@Bandista thank you! It's so good to know I'm not the only anxious one. Picking the goal weight is mind boggling, I chose something in the middle of my "healthy" bmi but I feel like it is too light as well, I definitely will be paying attention to my clothing sizes instead.

thanx edie, how do u feel now youve reached your goal weight.

Keep reading as much as you can, you will get the hang of things, don't worry. Yes if you eat all of your Protein literally first, you will get fuller faster and will wind up eating less overall. Plus then you will be able to get your daily protein grams in more easily. The weight loss ticker (stick) must be set up by you. If you look at the top right part of your screen, under your screen name there will be an option called "my tickers". Select or click on that and it will walk you through the options.

Medi weight loss clinic diet!
ElfiePoo replied to esv2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it the same as "Medical Weight Loss"? I went on it a few years back. Seems to be controlled calorie (worked out to be between 1100-1200), low carb and low fat...but not "OMG I'm dying here" *low*. It was ok. . -
Hi All! My name is Melissa. I am in the very early stages of wls. I have my initial consultation appt. in two week. I will be having the surgery (hopefully) through Duke University Hospital. I have struggled with weight all of my life. I go from a size eight (160 lbs) to a size 18( 220 lbs) every 2 years or so. I am a fantastic dieter and exerciser! I am horrible at sticking with the plan. I recently compiled a timeline photo from the past 7 years which really helped me realize that wls is the right decision for me. (the bottom right was taken Christmas 2012) I have a bmi of 36 with several comorbitities. I want to share the photo for anyone who has been through a similar situation. I hope that everything pre-op does smoothly. I have found this site very helpful in my decision.

What Was Your Biggest Obstacle After Surgery To Overcome
Writergirl replied to jared's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Very good question. As Cheri said, this is exactly the reality I'm dealing with at about 3 months out. I was so sure prior to surgery that I was going to be absolutely miserable and deprived over the small portions, but that hasn't really bothered me. The going got tough when I stopped losing and had to really address my eating issues. Luckily, I've been tracking every morsel I eat in My Fitness Pal, so it was easy to see that snacking is a big problem for me. I've been a grazer for my entire eating life, and I've determined that this is the habit that has to go if I'm to succeed long term. In the past, I wanted to lose weight but I didn't want to change. Now, for the first time ever, I WANT to change. So I would have to say my biggest obstacle to overcome is me. It's a work in progress! -
I have been accepted into a surgery weight loss program. The process takes nine months before any lapband or gastric procedure is done. During this nine months I have to show commitment and lose some weight on my own. I am having difficulty doing that. I have like many have tried every program out there. I am wondering what others thought about Herbal Magic? I need help desperatley.

advice appreciated: surgery, exercise, and weight loss maintenance?
AZhiker replied to MaineDoc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do 6 months of visits with my PCP for insurance approval. At one point I said to her, "Maybe I should just try it again on my own." Her reply, "If you COULD have done it, you WOULD have by now." She was so right, and her words inspired me to continue with the WLS. Yo-yo with weight loss and regain is just deadly - you damage your metabolism more and more each time you do it. That's why most of the Biggest Losers gained it all back. How sad is that? WLS resets everything, cuts off the ghrelin hormone that tells you to eat and eat and eat, and amazingly, does NOT result in a lower metabolism. OK - promise to do two things: 1) Watch the "The Game Changers." It will truly inspire you in your athletic pursuits. Then watch "Forks over Knives." There is so much info out there on WFPB and I am in a wonderland of information and discovery now. I am convinced this is the healthiest way to eat, exercise, maintain weight, lower all the risk factors for cardio vascular disease, and live longer with quality of life to the end. 2) Please, please, please get a copy of "The Obesity Code" by Jason Fung. This will explain so much about what makes us fat. It will give you hope and a greater understanding. -
Have any of you gotten breast lifts after all this weight loss and was it covered by insurance?

Response to my last entry about no restriction
jordancassandra posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just saying thanks to the replies i got when i was stressed about my band, i wrote last month. I did go and see my surgeon, he had no explanation for my lack of restriction. So i got a fill. At the moment i have a 4ml band in place. And when i had my fill, he said once withdrawn and put back in that i had approx 3.4mls in band. i went back in a week as the restriction was the same even after .2mls had been put in, to make the 3.4. i had another fill and to his calculations i now have 3.8 mls in a 4 ml band. I was nervous to take a drink, as i new this was pretty full up. Water went down ok, i had half a cup of mince for tea, that went down ok, i was very careful though. i have lost a furthur 2 kilos in this last 2 weeks, but i train at the gym 5 times a week, i do work and have a family. The restriction is still there but i can eat a toasted sandwich if im careful, and last night i had half a chicken breast fillet and crab meat for dinner, took a while but got through most of it. Im still concerned, i have an appointment on the 19th of march with my surgeon, i will get him to check how much is in the band. Any comments are welcome. I was banned 14th Feb 05 (weight)116kg Today i weigh 88.6kg and have lost 89cm's in total all over. Im not sure how to put up photos on this thing otherwise i would. I live in Australia in the Hunter Valley. -
Not Be A Humbug But....
brenda62 replied to Jim1967's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had tastes of things because I would rather do that then overdue it later. I lost weight over thanksgiving and I had a little of everything. The lab band does not have to make your holidays different, you just have a little less -
Not sure why but I have read countless studies about alcoholism being a direct correlation of weight loss surgery patients.. I know of two people that have had surgeries (one had the sleeve and one had bypass) that are struggling with the use of alcohol and I fear that I could potentially be on the verge.. Has anyone else struggled with this? I also wonder why there is even a connection???
