  1. I've never heard that about Iron supplements. I take one daily per my surgeon's directions. There have been some very interesting threads and comments here lately about D3, too. (Relating to weight loss.)

  3. I agree the sleeve is AWESOME!!!! I had surgery July 15 and have lost 30 lbs. I am very careful to comply with the high protien diet and get full on 1/2 cup or less cup of food. Congrats and enjoy your soon to be successful weight loss! __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com

I think I over did it this weekend

I over did it as well. I wish I could say that I over did it with work, but I over did it with junk food. Cookies to be exact. I just decided to take a break from it all and ate an entire bag of cookies. they were mint choc. like the girl scout cookies. I decided to eat the whole bag in one day rather than drag it out. They are gone now and it's back to the ol routine. I gained 2 lbs which I didn't think was that much for an entire bag of cookies. I think it's because I have been really sick. I can't exercise because I feel like cr@p and all I have been doing is laying around . I go to the dr. tomorrow. I am really sick of being sick.

BANDLANDIA APPLAUDS LAP-BAND REIMBURSEMENT APPROVAL BY BLUE CROSS / BLUE SHIELD Cynthia Jones, founder of Dallas-based Bandlandia, Inc. (www.Bandlandia.com) said today, “We are extremely pleased that Blue Cross / Blue Shield has approved Lap Band surgery for its patients. The lap band procedure is the least invasive and safest of all weight loss surgery options and we have been working towards this day for quite a long time. The Lap Band will save many lives among the Blue Cross / Blue Shield patients.” Cynthia Jones, among the first U.S patients to have the lap band procedure, founded Bandlandia to offer after care options for those who have had the surgery. Blue Cross / Blue Shield has approved the lap band procedure for the more than 6.8 million patients in Texas, Illinois and New Mexico. Blue Cross / Blue Shield will now provide medical coverage and reimbursements for implantation of the Lap Band System for the treatment of morbid obesity. Inamed’s Lap Band System provides a life=saving option for the morbidly obese that is safer, less invasive and as effective in weight loss resolution or improvement of obesity-related health conditions as gastric bypass surgery.
  6. I just had my psych evaluation a few weeks ago. It was two seperate days & very easy. First day was just talking to the doctor about my weight loss past. I came very prepared & had all records written down & copied for her. She really appreciated this. The second day was a test that took about 3 1/2 hours answering t or f questions. Its to test if you have any serious psych problems or behavioral problems that may make you unsuitable for a surgery like this one. It was very easy & all you do is answer honestly. PAY ATTENTION to all the questions. they are very repetitve( some very silly) & this is done to make sure you are reading every question & not just filling in t or f for all of them. That is what mine was like I do ot know if they're all the same. I have Blue Cross network & this was standard for them. I was told I passed the very next day. Good luck to you- you'll do just fine.

    OK! What do you think?

Take your messurements ... guarentee your scale isnt telling the truth like the poster above said - you are experiencing a stall. Your body is in starvation mode and holding onto everything its got. This can often lead to a gain. You'll start losing again soon.
  8. 3 weeks to lose 4 pounds ? You can easily lose this and much more. Did they give you a diet to follow ? If not, then as folks have suggested above there are ways to drop off weight really fast. The pre-op diet many of us followed dropped off a pound per day. It works due to calorie deficit and ketosis. You've got plenty of time to lose the weight. You can do this with great success.

Where did my fill saline go????

Something similar happened to me recently. I have lost 112 lbs. still need to lose 75. I went for a fill last Wed. I had some restriction before the fill but weight loss had slowed and I was getting hungry between meals. So I went for the fill. After the fill I had no restriction. Going back this Wed. to find out what's going on. It scares me. I have no idea why this happened.
  10. I was banded Jan 19, 2011... a couple of times my band was too tight so had to have a half cc taken out...I just had a fill a week ago and it isn't going too well, I keep regurgitating and some times after I fall to sleep I wake up choking and it's hard to breath, but I get through it, then I'm fine, but I lose sleep over it. I haven't lost that much in a year which bothers me but Dr. Valentine' assistant Annie said it's better to lose slow...all toll I have lost 44 pounds, but I don't feel any changes in my clothes either...is this normal...how long did it take any of you to lose a considerable amount of weight and how did you do your first year out?
  11. I've been looking through the forum and have not found the answer to my question. HAs anyone expierenced losing too much weight from the VSG? I'm weighing between the band and the sleeve. With the band I feel I will have control over my weight loss, But with the VSG I'm scared I might not, even though it's probaly the best option for me. :confused1:

    Too skinny anyone?

I also had this same concern. Having done plenty of research, speaking with my surgeon, and reading on these boards, I became comfortable that it wouldn't be an issue. I have a fair way to go to goal yet, only sleeved 12 days ago, but I was aneorexic as a teenager and initially my family were terrified I am going to go too far again. Knowing that this was a HEALTHY option for me and not just a super quick method of weight loss was just as important as anything else. Some people do go below their target, but I am sure that given time to adjust the amount which is eaten and the type of calories consumed, this can be rectified. I have already warned my family that I may go a little underweight until I get used to how much I should be eating to maintain my goal. A little bit of trial and error. I would also try to sway you away from the band, having read plenty of complications and seeing how many revisions there are here. I just don't believe it is a good option for anyone. Best of luck with whatever you decide. xx

  14. I recently decided to get weight loss surgery and was looking for recommendations of surgeons in the NYC area. Thanks!
  15. I had my band placed in April 2008. I lost a little over 60 pounds in the first six months. I had to have port revision because my port had flipped after surgery, but once corrected I had no other issues the first year. The honeymoon phase was wonderful! In the next two years, I ended up with acid reflux and esophagus issues, port complications, weight regain (and then some). I moved and had to find a new "band doctor", which by the way isn't an easy task. We were only able to do one fill due to my port being so deep and found out later stitched to my rib under my left breast (long story). I had RNY revision in August of this year. I'm down 49 pounds since surgery. I did my research and knew there would be higher risks with a revision surgery. RNY (like the band), isn't a cure to weight loss. It too is a tool. The first 18 months you are almost guaranteed to lose weight, due to re-routing and malabsorption. After that time hopefull we have learned to eat right and have a new lifestyle. It is usually after that time period if we go back to our old habits, we will probably regain the weight. It has its pros and cons...but for me it has been worth it. I'm not in pain anymore, I don't nor can I "eat around it", I don't get the elepant on my chest feeling like I did with the band with almost every meal...it doesn't allow you to cheat! Vitamins and supplements are a must the rest of your life. I was on my way to an early grave - even with the band. I regained all weight I'd lost with the band, plus twenty pounds - on top of that my esophagus had all but stopped working. Reflux was horrible (with reflux I should never have been banded - big no no). I was literally in the worse shape of my life three months ago. I can say since then I've had some tough moments. I mean, the surgery was a b***h to recover from...not a picnic - was tough but worth it :-) Do your research, go in with your eyes wide open and adopt a glass is half empty regarding research...I think you should always prepare for the worse and hope for the best!
  16. I was banded in 2003 in TJ. At my highest weight of 310 (I am 5'7"). The band worked great for me - I lost a total of 170 lbs and went from a size 32 to a 6. I got some plastics done (TT, BA, Lipo and face lift) Really loved my new body and most importantly I was no longer obsessed with food. I ran a marathon, started swimming and walking. This continued for 6 years! Then I lost my saiety - and was able to eat more and more. I tried to stay with the program but it wasn't working. Went back to TJ and OCC says - stretched pouch. Took out all my fill (gained 10 lbs) got a bit of fill back - nothing. We did this 3 times - resulting in a total of 30 lbs...plus a few more I managed to pack on...I started beating myself up - why couldn't I do this..I had been so successful. My clothes didn't fit..my tummy tuck hurt...Holy Heck fire...Back I went to OCC and we talked about revisions - Plication seems to be my best bet - lower BMI - didn't want to cut anything out..So I start the second leg of this journey on July 1st- hopefully I will lose the 38 lbs to get back to my lowest weight and use this new tool to help guide me back to where I want to be..

    Wanting to get pregnant

My surgeon said I could start trying as soon as I was healed from surgery if I wanted to. LOL But she said that if I wanted to lose some weight beforehand, that a one year goal was a good one to shoot for. Best of luck to you, and congratulations on your spectacular weightloss!!!

    PCP vs Dietician

Hey Everyone! My insurance doesn’t cover dietitians so I’ve opt to use my PCP to complete my 6 months of medically supervised weight-loss. However, the hospital that I am having surgery at doesn’t seem to have logs or forms for my PCP to complete for the 6 months. How did you guys that used your PCP, go about having things documented? Did you fax over all your appointments?
  20. Hi I see that no one answered your post, so I will give you my experience. I originally had a lap-band in 2005. I did not need to do the supervised diet thing, just write a history of my issues with weight loss and re-gain. (I think my insurance was either aetna or united health care) I am now getting the band removed. My current insurnace provider, anthem blue cross blue shield, just says that I need to show "medical Necessity". Nothing said about a supervised diet. Hope you are getting the answers you need, Lisa
  21. I will be 24 weeks this friday and I've gone from 283 to 268 since I've been pregnant. I got all of my fluid taken out at 16 weeks because of being too tight and also was having trouble with my gallbladder (which I had to have out at 18 weeks). Needless to say I've had a hard first pregnancy. My question is, is there anyone else that really hasn't gained any weight yet and are close to their third trimester? If you are in the same situation then are you worried? I haven't got in trouble with the doctor because they say ill gain it in my third and I hope they are right.
  22. Today is my three month post sleeve day, and I have lost a total of 61.4lbs!!!!!! This is wild- I'm SO close to my high school weight again. No more blood pressure or cholesterol meds, I have more energy than I've had in years, I crave healthy foods and eat well... this is the reason I had the surgery. I needed that push to get me going. It's been the best tool I've ever had to become healthy. I am just legitimately so happy to finally feel like a human again... after I'm finished with my breakfast, I'm going out on my new bike for a victory lap lol
  23. Melissa, I can't say that I am in the same situation, but I can see your frustration. It is a hard thing for someone without a weight issue to wrap their minds around it. I have surgery Monday and it wasn't till yesterday that my hubby asked why I think I need this. HELLO??? Couldn't this conversation have happened earlier? I h=know it is hard but give your sig other time. Ask him if he has questions. Be honest with your answers. I found that just throwing out comments to probe for questions worked. He finally has an understanding now as to why I need this. And, lets not forget about the eventual outcome. You will be thinner, happier, more energetic, basically you will be a little different. I have a friend that has been married almost 20+ years and she hd bypass done. Well, she was about 5'1 and close to 300lbs. She now is like 150 lbs. She has fire, spunk, energy, and she smiles all the time. She said her hubby had a very hard time dealing with the "new" wife. They almost had to re-introduce themselves to each other. I know you want him to be there for you, but be sure you are there for him. You hopefully have a strong partnership and support will be needed for both of you. Good luck with everything. I hope I didn't scare you, I just wanted to shed light on other things to think about. Take care! - Ann
  24. I've been looking into weight loss surgery for a few years unfortunately my in network surgeons you have to be 18. No I don't want any negative comments about adolescents getting WLS. I'm currently almost 18 and my surgeon has agreed to start the process even though my surgery will not be until after I am 18. I'm going out of state for college and I would of loved to have become healthy before school started but now I am looking around December for my surgery date. I guess any tips, any encouraging words, and even better I just wanna hear everyone's stories! Anyone else braving the holiday season with a new surgery?
