Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Teachlady replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good morning all you lovely Violets.. It's another beautiful day in the neighborhood.. I'm setting out clothes for a garage sale and boy does it feel good to price those puppies and say... I'm never going to wear them again!! They are all good quality clothes.. some never even worn so I hope I get some good prices on them cause I need the money for clothes shopping. It's a vicious circle, isn't it!!! For those considering liposuction.. as Terry says.. be VERY careful. There is a new procedure out now that is an injection rather than a suction. It dissolves the fat cells. My daughter was telling me about it. Her DH is a Physician's assistant and one of the people he graduated with does the procedure. I might even consider it when I get to goal. But at my age, who the heck cares if I have an apron as long as I can fit into regular sized clothes! Not like I'm going to be wearing a bikini ever in my life. At least not out in public. Might be nice for the backyard pool.. Yes, I watched Big Medicine last night. The lady sure didn't get a lot of support from her bf, did she?? But glad they showed the surgery.... DH kept saying.. that was us.. that was us!! Lunasa.. glad the meds are kickingin for you. It will take at least 6 weeks before the full effect is felt. But sounds like they are making a difference already. TracyK.. I take a water pill once a week. It really makes a difference for me. Plus I take a laxative every 3 or 4 days. The fiber sure works to keep things soft, but I guess I need that extra "push". I know, I know TMI!!! Back to sorting and pricing those big clothes. Everyone have a great day and remember to follow those bandster rules. Though I don't know why coffee is banned for some!! DH has had it since day one after his surgery with no problems. -
I'm back, guys! I was out of town since yesterday afternoon, without internet access. First, the good news: I've lost another 2 pounds, which I am SO excited about. Second, the not-so-good news (also TMI, so don't read if you're sensitive): I haven't had a bowel movement since the day before surgery. I'm trying not to get worried, since I think it is just because I haven't taken in much solid food so far. Third, the so-so news: I'm trying to wean myself of the painkillers that I was prescribed. I try to take as few as I can, so that means I'm in a little pain. It usually isn't bad unless I'm leaning for something or trying to bend down, so that's a relief. I've been fairly good about staying on my diet, although I had a roll when I went out with my parents to a steakhouse tonight (but I made sure that they were chewed to a pulp before I swallowed). I usually have one protein drink a day, at least one yogurt, cream of wheat or oatmeal, soft vegetables, and sometimes a soft omelet or scrambled eggs (which my nutritionist does consider to be "pureed texture," thankfully). Chickb13, dmtjet, forgve70x7, suzielondon, I added your updates to the spreadsheet. I'm currently having computer issues, but I'll try to get the updated spreadsheet posted tomorrow.

If you'll read some of my older posts, I was posting about a 2 1/2 inch abcess on my vulva (TMI, I know) that I had to have lanced. So far, my surgery pain has been less than the pain of having that abcess lanced. Don't get me wrong, I still hurt, but it isn't the type of piercing, unrelenting pain that the abcess was.

OMG, thanks for this thread! "Going down there" is one of my fav. things to do with my boyfriend and I always "finish the job" so to speak. He agrees that he's very spoiled...anyway... Here's my question, one of my fav. positions is missionary only with my legs up around his neck. I'm getting banded in Aug, I know there's recovery so I'll need to be careful but has anyone done this particular position? Did it affect your port? Thanks everyone and sorry if it was TMI. -
I love these questions. They really get my brain working into overdrive. Does my weight embarrass me? Yes. I'm embarrassed when I can't fit into a booth at the restaurant comfortably. I'm embarrassed when my son's peers (they're certainly not friends) taunt him because his mother is fat. But embarrassment isn't the only emotion I suffer from either. I didn't choose my user name for nothing. My weight and my lack of control over it frustrates me. I can't do activities as freely as I'd like. I can't play rough and tumble with my son without fear of crushing him with my weight. I'm angry with it. It's caused me so many health problems. Problems I wouldn't have if I could get it under control! I enjoy exercise and being active, my ever-increasing weight is inhibiting my ability to do so many things I enjoy because I either can't haul my weight around to do them, or I run out of energy just as things are getting good. Oh and please don't get me started on the effect it has on my sex life..... My husband loves me unconditionally. And he's never, EVER made me feel like the extra pounds makes me less attractive. (WARNING: possibly TMI follows) But there is a limit to the positions I can enjoy, to how much I can bend my knees, how long I can keep them in the air, how much energy it takes to last longer than 15 minutes, how awful I feel with this huge tyre constantly around my stomach, how I don't even know any more what it looks like down there ... Doh! I got started, didn't I? Positive things about my weight? I'm not anorexic? __________________

Glad to hear everyone is doing great! I can't believe some of you all have been banded for a month now. WOW! The other day they had a marathon of Big Medicine on TV. I watched them all again. Love that show and always learn something during that hour. That other show about Brookhaven Obesity Clinic is just too sad. Plus I don't understand it: the staff knows these people are calling out for food, so put a stop to it already! I have a ways to go for my first fill but I'm reading what you all are going through with some trepidation. I think I'm going to be scared to finally start eating and chewing again. TMI alert - Right now I think I'm having a hard time telling the difference between hunger and gas pains. Last night was really rough and I ended up doing that slime thing. (First time and hoping my last.) I'm not sure what happened either. The only thing I can think of is my chewable calcium pill. That sucker is huge. Without thinking I popped the whole thing in my mouth and chewed and swallowed. I don't think I chewed it enough and took too big a swallow. My sides hurt and my breast bone hurt. It wasn't good. Then I was up almost all night with diarrhea. On the protein drinks - I found High Protein Boost is really good at 8oz for 15 gm of protein. I got some powder protein from The Vitamin Shoppe. I use 1/2 scoop of the banana flavor in my cream of wheat with LF vanilla flavor organic milk. Oh so good and high in protein. I did order some samples from Bariatriceating.com. I want to have a good selection so I won't get too bored with the same flavors. Missy, WTG getting into twoerville. That is awesome. :clap2: Angel, you were banded 2 days after me and the bloat and gas pains got me within the same time frame. Have on hand plenty of Gas-x, either the strips or the chewables. Drink slowly and try to belch often. Another thing is to recognize when you are full. (I'm still learning this.) Oh and not to sound like your Mother, but sit up straight while you eat and even afterwards! I'm a big sloucher but found that sitting up straight helps with the digestion. Boy I wish I could address everyone but my old brain goes on overload after reading. :faint: Take care everyone, and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Hi everyone, I have a question. I've been banded since May 10th and this is the first time this has happened to me. Tonight at dinner I am assuming I ate to much and now the food feels stuck. I feel like I could throw up but I can't (not the food anyway) I keep spitting up my saliva. This has been about 1 1/2 hours now. Is there anything I can do to help this and help the pain go away? I tried to drink something about 30 minutes ago and all I did was spit that up as well. Thanks for any responses!

Welcome Stepht7s, dmtjet, tinkerbell77, ribearty, and every other new Lucky 7. Insubordination, thanks for dropping in and wishing us well. Next year we'll be in your shoes, YEAH. forgve70x7, thanks for the prayes. I'm the next bander:46 hours and counting down. Dini, you already have a fill??? I won't get a fill for 4 weeks after surgery. Can you get anything down. I figured with the swelling and all they wouldn't fill anyone for a while. That's amazing. BTW, I'm off for the next 4 weeks, so I'll be on the computer earlier each day, so we can chat it up girlfriend. Nelli, "fall off the roof" I have never heard of that. So I finally broke out the Magic Bullet this morning, the blender. It is awesome.:clap2: I blended 4 ozs of slimfast optima with a scoop of vanilla powder and froze them. I made up 8 of them. Very quick, easy, and great clean up. In all they had 26 grams of protein, 170 calories, and under 2 grams of sugar. I love to eat slimfast frozen.:hungry: For one, it tastes great on a hot day, and when it's frozen it takes longer to eat, and you actually feel like your eating something instead of drinking something. Seems more satisfying. So thumbs up for the magic bullet. Cant wait to do something else with it, like soups, and smoothies. I've been cleaning the house all morning so when I get home from the hospital it will be all done, and I can just lay back and not worry about anything. My DH is doing all the laundry for me and cleaning out my car, and hopefully going to give it an oil change. I'm making 1 more trip to the store later just to get some things so I won't have to go for a while. Going to start packing for the hospital later on, and I'm going out for my last dinner tonight with DH and friends. I'm always so organized but I feel like I'm missing something on my list of things to do before going. Oh yes, one last fat intimate encounter with my DH.:embarassed: It will never be the same, WHOOHOOO!!! Sorry, that may have been TMI, but I'm sure everyone will have their own last fat encounter too. :scared:more days and I'll be in Bandland with Dini and Breadlady.

You do feel like that? It's been a week and two days...and I just have like a lingering heavy feeling in my belly....went to the regular dr yesterday, not my band dr, he said it must be my band, cuz everything else seems fine? Who knows, but it hurts, so called where I got my band, and will probably end up going there this evening. Thanks for sharing, I'm ok w/ TMI, because it helps to know someone has the same thing as me!
-
I can relate, fills really muck me up for a few days. I get bad gas, really sharp pain in the very low belly, ones that can double me over, I always go three or four days without doing number 2's and get a bit constipated and my stomach rumbles and carries on making weird noises for a few days too. Once it even set off a severe bout of irritable bowel, it was horrendous. Then it seems to all even out and I'm right as rain. I had a fill on Monday and thankfully just had a most satisfying session in the bathroom, lol, (sorry, TMI) and feel normal today, not bloated and gassy.

Hi all- I am 10 days post op and have a few ?'s..................sorry if TMI, but my pee color has turned a real darker yellow almost orange...........I feel like I drink a ton of water/crystal light (much more than before surgery when I drank a bunch of soda)............shouldn't the pee be clearer? And my bandages are finally off and so are steri=strips. I am left with the "stickiness" gooey stuff on my skin-scrubbing it does not get it off for me? What did you guys use? I feel so dirty!

Good evening, ya'll! Breadlady, we are sooo glad that you're home and doing well! That's right, keep it moving. That's what they say works well and that's what I plan to do when it's my turn. Get some good rest and take care of yourself. Hope to talk to ya tomorrow. Nelli, we're gonna be banded on the same day! Woohoo! I was feeling kinda lonely at the end of the month. Lynette, I wish you the best during this weekend. It's awesome what you're doing for the ACS. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and my sister is a colon cancer survivor. Eventually, I would love to run in one of the breast cancer marathons! Dini, loved your pics, especially the babies. They are so cute. I loooovvve babies. Don't have any of my own, yet, though. Don't have a husband, yet, so when that happens, then the kids will come, too. (The lack of a significant other is a whole other thread!) All, I had an appt today w/my primary doc. It went well. My surgeon just wanted me to get medical clearance from him, so this appt was painless. B/W now and the 25th, I believe I have 6 more appts, including my nutrition classes. I'm sure this will help the time fly by fast. Also, this may be TMI, but I'm gonna share it anyhow. LOL. Well, I have manipulated my cycle so that I will not be on it during my surgery. I wear the patch (Ortho-Evra) and if I continued to follow my current schedule, Aunt Flo would've showed up around surgery time. :angry No way. So...I did what I had to do and I will be Aunt Flo-free come the week of surgery. YAY!

Another board I frequent has a forum called Sex Before and After Weight Loss Surgery. There are people there who have had lapband, GB etc and all of ladies there say they haven't had any ill effects from swallowing. A couple women however confessed that the taste puts them off now. It isn't going to hurt you, it is basically protien and sugar. From a guys perspective - I applaud all you wonderful ladies that venture down there!!!!!! I can't remember the last time i had a ...... (TMI). Anyway keep up the good work and make sure your loved one spends equal time going down on you!!!! Hope that wasn't to forward for this board -
Hi Diggity! Welcome to Lap-Band World. This website is great. You can learn so much from the folks here (sometimes TMI, too...lol). I attend Dr. Spivak's support group every Tuesday night at 7 pm in his office. Pre-Banders are welcome. Hope to see you next week.

Good night everyone. I was back to 225 today, I broke down and drank the cleansing tea last night. I was so full it was starting to make me sick... I know TMI but i had to tell someone...LOL I just got home from bartending school. I still don't have a job, still waiting to hear from the sports grill. I am in panic mode so I'm looking for a fun job then will get back to focus on real job. I need to have a job commitment this week. I got totally fried in the sun today. I fell asleep in the pool for an hour then got out and did yard work for another hour. well we will see what tomorrow brings. I have a feeling it is going to be a long night with dbf. he is working tonight and we had a slight disagreement yesterday and I have not talked to him all day. That is if he is even talking to me Did you all see Bruce Almighty????? The last 30 minutes where Jennifer A. is praying for him to find himself then praying to be strong enough to let go... well that is my every day for years, and now to the point of praying to have strength for me. My heart breaks for him every day of my life - but he does some of his problems to himself, but a lot are out of his control, and as he does not mean it he is pushing me to closing all the doors and with my new mental state... not 100% yet but therapy is doing lots of good, I just say what is on my mind... the difference is that I am not yelling and not crying when i talk to him. But I am closing him out and pushing him away, and except for my handful of true friends, I am pushing everyone else away too. These changes in me are good, but on the other hand, it is sad to find out who your real friends are and who are just people who come and go. I had a very emotional, trying day (week) can you tell HUGS.... hope everyone is having a good night -

Ok ladies. .... So ... I just spent the am in the bathroom. I have not had fibersure in 3 days, it was not working, but.... here is a question... does anyone know if crystal light has sugar alcohol? The only thing I have done different 2 times, the 1st being when i started fibersure, and the 2nd being yesterday afternoon because I ust got more was drinking tons of crystal light rasp green tea to go packs. And when I say tons, I am talking about 80oz a day. I couldn't even eat more than a few bites of my eggs this am because i felt like i was going to die, and had a green tea on my way out this am. I know... TMI.... but I don't understand why i'm not working right! off to lie in the sun, mower is dead as a doornail! -

My dietitian said that those giant noisy tummy rumbles are mostly from the "sip, sip, sip" drinking we do after surgery...every little sip takes in air which gets itself down into your "big tummy" and because there's no food there the air just rumbles around. I had it too and quite a few times my husband was in the kitchen and I was in the lounge and he heard it from where he was! Dry DeGas for the gas. I too had the most horrific gas pains imaginable, but DeGas is amazing, I took two little magic minty tablets (they're tiny don't worry about swallowing them) every few hours and oh! the relief! Try them, they won't hurt you and they might just work... I swear it took about a week for all the gas to disappear from my abdomen. And it's got to come out somewhere, but husband was calling me "tuba butt" (sorry for TMI)...which made me laught...and clutch my stomach even more... I'm 3 weeks post op today, and it does get better!

Hang tight Anne! I had my first fill yesterday and ate very little last night. This a.m., I was famished when I awoke. I had some coffee (I know, I'm not supposed to, but I don't have it everyday, so I was bad!) and about a half hour later, an oatmeal b'fast cookie. That held me over until lunch time around 12:30. I was very hungry by then. I had a large cobb salad from Publix and split it before I started eating (didn't want the leftovers to get soggy). Well...I couldn't eat even the half. I'd say I ate maybe a quarter of it. I had some fruit and some sushi to nibble on as well (communal table at work), but never got to it. I just couldn't eat any more! Now this I like!! For those that were asking, I feel a little tight (I can still feel something that doesn't quite feel stuck, but almost. It's not terribly uncomfortable though.), but I'm not on liquids. Jsrico, try Activia. There's even a lowfat one. My hubbling swears by it! I tried it and it tastes pretty good, but lordy it gave me gas!!! (Sorry, I know, TMI.) And since my surgery (yes, still!!!) I've had plenty of that all on my own!! If this is what the band feels like when it's working properly, I have to say it's great!
-
Well the programs I need to use to finish my work before I am off are not working, so I guess I will post here while I wait. Maybe I will take my laptop with me and work after surgery - NOT! Clear liquids today - yuck - Surgery tomorrow WOOHOO! I am ready to go and looking forward to mushies! My 14 year old has asked if he can spend the night with me in the hospital, so we are going to ask when I get to my room. He said he wants to eat hospital food - LOL! The 4 year old keeps asking why I need to go to the hospital and have the doctor cut on me. It is tough to explain that I need this to be healthy. My husband is doing better - he was struck by gas and constipation. He was able to relieve the constipation and pass the gas (TMI :faint:), so he is feeling much better. I am worried that he isn't eating enough, but he seems to be functioning okay. I think he is waiting for me to be able to eat again. I hope everyone having surgery today does well! GOOD LUCK

Well I am this groups Band Granny....!!!! But here are my stats---- Banded 04/24/06 1.75 cc's in a 10cm band designed to hold up to 4cc.'s (I think is how they told me!!!) I have had 2 fills, have not been adjusted since last July, and still have restriction! I have lost 91.5 pounds. Would do this again in a heartbeat!!! This may fall along the lines of Judy's hooha issue and be TMI----but along with "seeing" it again, other things change as well---and improve A LOT!!!!! Seems as though if you can see it, it works better---imagine that!!! Tomorrow we are having an early dinner with my DIL's grandparents who we have never met, then we will be leaving for Albuquerque to have Ricks heart fixed. Getting nervous. My Mom and Dad are going to come down to be with me. Which is good/bad!!! I am very glad they are going to be there, but them opting to come, puts it to where our kids are not going to be able to. Son is busy with his new inlaws, and was really struggling with his wife, over it, she was livid that he was going to leave, so we convinced him to stay. My SIL to be is in Houston for 2 weeks with work, so my DD is home alone with both kids...so with her daughter she could call on her ex, and let her stay with Daddy, but not the stepdaughter....and if my Mom isn't home, she has noone to leave them with. The other person she has watch them is her sister on her Dads side, and she just got married yesterday and is off honeymooning....so no kids will be there. DH is fine with that, I am too for the most part, I realize it can't be helped. I will be glad to have my parents. I am surprised, but none of DH's family is going---I think it is because they are pissed off at me, but too bad! We will be fine. I would not admit it to him, but I am afraid to go alone. The last ordeal with him, when he had the GI bleed, and the Dr. told me he would likely expire (oh how I hate that word now!!!) in the next 10 minutes----I have no idea what I would have done if I were alone....I am scared to face this alone now. I don't tell him that tho. Anyway---please remember him in your prayers girls---. Well, I am off to take a walk, while it has cooled down. Will check in with you guys later!!! Kat -

Alrighty then. DH gained a pound this week so there must be something in the water. HOWEVER I did have a couple of NSVs today. Last year at Gospel Sunday I was wearing a man's size XXL denim choir shirt. Today I'm wearing a man's L and I'm just shy of being able to button it around my belly. Next year my goal is to be in a woman's Medium! Yesterday I bought new underwear. I asked my DH if he knew what an optimist was. I said.. "it's somebody who buys one package of size 8 and one package of size 7 underwear". This morning I thought I'd just try the size 7 on and IT FIT!! Now the last NSV has a parental warning attached to it. When I stood in front of the full length mirror this morning before stepping into the shower, I saw something I have not seen in years and years. I looked down and saw my hoo haaa!! It's been covered up by a big apron of fat for a long time and today it was just peeking out! Ok, I know that's TMI, but it WAS a NSV for sure!! -
Hey, I thought I was really in pain. The suture spots were a little sore but I really thought I was in pain....it was gas. Somehow I figured out how to relieve some of that pressure (I know, tmi) and now I don't even feel like I had surgery at all, I feel 100%. Once I get this tether ball off that the doctor attached, which by the way was the most annoying part of it all, I'll be great. I had to advise some new freshmen today so it was kind of hard but that was apparently due to the gas. I should be able to work a full day on Monday judging by the way I feel right now. I haven't even been hungry yet and have to remind myself to drink something, so we'll see how this goes. Congrats to the latest bandsters, let us know how you're doing.
