Stalls happen, just stick with it and the scale will start moving again. Take measurements too, because sometimes when the scale stops the inches are still dropping.

I am almost 74. I had a lapband done in 2009 and did well, but had complications and they took all the saline out in 2012, and finally had the band taken out and getting ready to have the sleeve done sometimes in the last week in March.I remember everything about things to do to prepare and have most of everything ready for the 2 weeks liquid diet before surgery as well for the first 2 weeks post surgery.How soon will I be able to take regular medications post surgery? Has anyone tried baby food during the purée stage?

That requirement started in 2007. I know because I did a two-month stint at the National Passport Center in New Hampshire to help them cope with the huge demand. It is currently taking six to nine weeks to get a new passport. Simply that I grew a gall stone. Just one. It may have been from the sudden weight loss. Could have been because I was/am menopausal, or have high bilirubin levels (have Gilbert’s). All of which can cause gall stones. The only thing I know is mine wasn’t caused by high cholesterol - my cholesterol was always ok. We discovered it about 8 months after surgery during a liver function scan. First & only symptom was horrendous pain some 16 months later. Had the gall removed about two weeks later. My surgeon said: if you’ve grown one stone, you’ll likely grow more so better it goes. It’s not an uncommon surgery during or after weight loss surgery. Some are discovered during the pre surgery testing and the gall is removed in the same surgery. These are often the high cholesterol caused stones. Others have their stones discovered & their gall removed some time after surgery. These are often caused by the dramatic weight loss. There are always exceptions to this of course.

This is just a stall! Calories in & calories out is THE universal rule & you will continue to lose weight after this little hump. I've had multiple stalls & Im still losing. just stick to your plan & you will see your desired results -
I think much like @ms.sss about snacking: it’s regular & planned. Portions & nutrition are considered. To me grazing is random eating of whatever you want, often emotionally/head hunger driven. Portion size or nutrition is if minimal or no concern. I think small meals are planned too & are more rounded like the part serve of a full meal. You might prepare three meals a day but only eat part of one meal at a sitting finishing it a little later on. Like have a first breakfast & then later have a second breakfast to finish the meal. When I was trying to stabilise my weight loss I was snacking about 5 times a day as I my meals were still smaller - couldn’tt eat more.. Once my meals became a little larger & equal to or closer to the recommended portion sizes, I didn’t need to snack as much for my needed calories & protein so I dropped 1or 2 of them a day. Oh & I eat more across a day & more regularly than I did before surgery too. (Was a meal skipper before.) But I eat better - healthier, more nutritionally dense foods - now & my body burns those calories more efficiently than before (thank you surgery).

As for vitamins, we are told to take a multivitamin daily for life, Vit B12, calcium and Bit D. I was giving myself B12 injections, prefer that because you only do it once a month and done. But getting the RX had been difficult. So I’m wearing B12 pads, take chewy Vit D and multivitamin. Calcium chews also. My Vit D was low for awhile so I really keep up on that. I have days where I skip the vits, for the most part take them about 5 days a week. my Vit E was low on the last panel I had done.even though I have E tabs I take two a day for fatty liver ( which is no longer!) so I’m surprised it was low.

This week we have a lot of visitors from the head office (I work in a remote site) and I've not seen some of them for quite sometime. Some even before Covid hit. I was the star of this week with everyone talking about my weight loss and all kinds of praise and encouragement. Almost everyone asked me how did I lose the weight including the big bosses from the client and the contractors. I've only told my direct boss and the company managing director about my surgery. I took time-off to do it and told everyone else that I was going on vacation. It helped that we were still working from home while I was recovering so nobody noticed any change during that period. I chose not to tell my coworkers because I didn't want the unsolicited advice and opinions some might have about the WLS and also the follow-up questions. I learned that from when I was on KETO and made the mistake of telling a few coworkers about it. Suddenly I would have people come over to talk to me about it or advising against it etc. It was too much. One guy in particular would come in a for a weekly update on how much weight did I lose etc. Outside work, only my wife, my direct family and two of my closest friends know about my WLS. They have been very supportive and helped me throughout. I've been telling people that I was on KETO, then started a low-carb diet and exercising. I even have a photo of me on my maintain bike to prove it 😂. I would love to hear how did you respond to such questions / remarks? -
it's the infamous three-week stall. It happens to almost all of us (it's not ALWAYS the third week, but that's the most common time. It can happen any time during the first month to six weeks after surgery) I just did a search of this site on it for you - here you go - 17,500 posts! https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall p.s. it typically lasts 1-3 weeks, so you're likely very near the end of it. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days. As long as you stick to your program, it WILL break, and you'll be on your way again.

the pain shouldn't last much longer. I didn't have any, but I think for those who do, it lasts a few days. I'm a side sleeper. It's been a few years, but I think it took about two weeks before I could sleep on my side again. -
I had surgery Monday (2/13) and was doing well and got discharged on Tuesday. The pain had been tolerable, so they only prescribed me some light pain relievers. I'm just curious how long the pain/soreness lasts? I can handle it but it definitely puts a damper on things. I'm home from work for the week, and I can take another week off if needed. My biggest thing, as silly as it is, is that I'm a side and stomach sleeper and I can't do that right now lol How long did the soreness last everyone else?

I'm so sorry! It must have been so disappointing to get that news. There are so many reasons that this might have happened, but that's not really important. Something someone told me a long time ago is that life is 20% what happens to you, and 80% how you react and respond to it. Try to put a spin on this, that you'll get your getting a bonus birthday! You can call it your "belly birthday"! Hopefully by your special day you'll be on your way through recovery without much pain. My doctor told me that a lot of people are up and about and doing just fine within a week. I hope that's true for you! Based on your previous post I would definitely take this time to talk to the nutritionist and settle on a solid plan for your liver shrinking/pre-surgical diet. Anticipating an all-liquid diet is probably giving you a bit of anxiety. I can assure you, it's not as bad as it sounds, and maybe you and your team can come up with an alternative plan. Good Luck!

There are three wealthy towns nearby that have a Savers, Salvation Army, and Goodwill plus a well off consignment store. Everything in our house gets thrifted except intimate items. I found tops the easiest to find. Pants need to be a name brand that I know fits me or my son well. When I lived in the Rockies, I would wait for a Denver or Phoenix trip to thrift in the cities. -
I have a question. I had my surgery Dec 28. I had lost 60 pounds before talking to surgeon but I had hit such a plateau or I was only losing about a pound a week that I decided to try the surgery . The first three weeks I lost 28 pounds and doctor was thrilled. But since then I seem to be stuck again losing a pound or nothing each week. Ive been so concerned about the number of calories Im eating, but I realized I'm not getting even closee to the 120g of protein they wanted me to. I'm getting about half of that or maybe a little bit more, like 70-75g. My question is...could it be I'm not eating enough? Do I add protein to hit 120 and not be concerned with calories? Basically Im a bit frustrated because I'm back where i was before surgery only losing a pound a week. Looking for some insight.

I'm on the liver shrinking diet and my sleeve is on 2/21. From what I understand there are several variations of these pre-surgical diets. In my case I am allowed to have 'free' foods like plain cucumbers, celery, and sugar free jell-o. I am also supposed to have three protein shakes per day, and one meal consisting of 4oz of a lean protein, and 1 cup of cooked veggies. I'm almost supposed to have 64oz of water as well to keep me hydrated. (It's been really hard to do the water thing on TOP of the shakes). Not going to lie - this has not been easy, but I keep thinking about all of the time I've spent with doctors over the past 6 months getting ready for this surgery, and all of the weight I've already lost and it keeps me going. It helps me to weigh myself every other day - seeing a few pounds come off every few days is an added bonus. In 8 days I have dropped 14 pounds. If you don't have as much weight to lose, you may see smaller numbers, but if you follow the diet they gave you, I promise you'll see results in the short term - and your surgery will be here before you know it! Don't worry - you got this!! -

Hmmm thats a bit different- feeling full

So, I am 5 weeks out of bypass revision. I feel great (a little stall, but I hear thats normal and I am not worried). I am happy. Just an observation, I dont get that full feeling as fast as I did like the original, the delayed fullness is weird. Me and the Dr. have talked about it and I understand why. I have had one hick up with overeating and that sh*t was painful for a good 45 mins. How are you managing this change if you are experiencing it at all? -
I had my husband take photos of me (all four sides - front, back, and each side) every month on my surgery date. I didn't wear the same clothes, though (although when I was close to goal, I did put on my "fat" clothes and had him take photos - at that point, I could put both legs in one of the legs of my "fat" jeans). I would recommend doing that (monthly photos). For one thing, once your weight loss slows down after the first couple of months, it's sometimes hard to tell from month to month that you've lost, but if you compare photos from one month to those from three or four months before, yep - big difference! Also, it's great to have photographic "evidence" of your journey! I'm really glad I did this.

Hi, my date is March 6th! I am cutting out carbs, sugar and caffeine this week. Starting liquid diet next week. Which surgery are you having? I am going with the bypass.

And that is the truth! If you don't prepare yourself in your mind it will never,ever work... you already have to know you can't have 3rds at every meal and that there are more than 3 a day for some. Or that you may not have that issue but that you are going to have to start some walking. May be something else... but mind comes first. The rest for me has been easy! I admit I'm very early on in this. 2 weeks out but pre-op and so far a snap. Lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks. My date is March 1, and I dont have to start liquid diet until afterwards. Just low carb/no sugar one week out, although I’ve already started as a way to get my head in the game and stay invested. Good luck to all!

Yes it does get better. At the moment you’re healing from pretty major surgery & everything is swollen, tender & sensitive. Diarrhoea, nausea, low energy, light headedness, difficulty swallowing are all pretty common post surgical experiences. You’ll find in a month or so it has passed. I had a terribly embarrassing diarrhoea experience on day 3. Got up to pee, took a couple of steps & oh gracious no. Gush. No warning at all. It was dark from surgical bleeding & had a foul odour. I had just the one attack but a friend had it persist for about a week. Beware ‘wet farts’. Her surgeon had recommended disposal knickers - she said it was best advice. I also had a lot of swelling in my throat making swallowing everything for water to meds a struggle for a few days. It was pretty much fine by day 4. It’s important to at least be close to your fluid goals. Dehydration is a real issue for us after surgery. Try warming your water, shakes & other fluids. Warm drinks tend to be more soothing & easier to swallow. I was allowed green or herbal teas - they were fabulous. Don’t worry if you sip on your shakes & soups for ages as long as you’re getting them in. I also used to dilute them to make them thinner & easier to tolerate (esp the shakes which were disgusting after surgery). Bonus was I was consuming more fluid. All the best.
