Old-Timers (3+ Years Banded) Recommitting To The Bandster Lifestyle
goddesscordelia replied to lellow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded 1/08. I lost ~125, then lost full, gained a bunch back, had revision surgery 10/09. I got back to a total loss of 110 then got preggers. Had an unfilled and gained most all back. My baby is 13 mos and I finally got a fill again this week. So now I'm down about 60 from original and 100 to get to goal. Exercise....just keeping the faith...that's me -
Any Washington State Sleevers?
CowgirlJane replied to eyoung's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am in the Seattle area. I was a band to sleeve revision and a big fan of PSSC - Drs Landerholm and Billing changed my life! -
I was ready to make a deposit with Dr Aceves also and I think it is prudent to wait until Dec to get a feel for the lay of the land but I am anxious to move forward for a couple of reasons. 1. I want to to do this in the summer , 2 I am having a revision and will be having my band removed. Meanwhile I am gaining weight and I will need to buy new clothes soon. I would love to hear from anyone who has had the sleeve by Dr aceves' replacement. Lylabelle that sounds like an awesome weight loss. Just enjoy it. To Sphiderphish where is your doc?

Band removal - United Healthcare
brittu replied to blondie1007's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just used UHC as an example of bariatric revision policies for my appeal. Here's what they say: Surgical revision or a second bariatric surgery is proven for inadequate weight loss if the original criteria for bariatric surgery (BMI, co-morbidities and patient selection criteria) continue to be met. Surgical revision of bariatric surgery is proven for complications of the original surgery, such as stricture, obstruction, pouch dilatation, erosion, or band slippage when the complication causes abdominal pain, inability to eat or drink or causes vomiting of prescribed meals. You can see it all on their web site at: https://www.unitedhealthcareonline.com/ccmcontent/ProviderII/UHC/en-US/Assets/ProviderStaticFiles/ProviderStaticFilesPdf/Tools%20and%20Resources/Policies%20and%20Protocols/Medical%20Policies/Medical%20Policies/Bariatric_Surgery.pdf -
Almost Died Fm Vsg Surgery.

I agree that 350 dollars is A LOT of money for your medical records! Unless you had 50 years worth the medical records copied out, it shouldn't have been more than at least 30 dollars (given that you had x-rays etc. included in the records, if not then it shouldn't have been more than about 5 dollars!) I'm not calling you a liar either. If they charged you 350 dollars you were MAJORLY ripped off! Medical Records Copying Charges Louisiana Louisiana Revised Statutes 40:1299.96 For records, a reasonable charge not to exceed: $1.00 per page for first 25 pages $0.50 per page for pages 26-500 $0.25 per page thereafter Plus handling charge of $25.00 Plus actual postage For x-rays, microfilm, electronic, and imaging media: Reasonable reproduction costs Plus handling charge of $20.00 for hospitals, $10.00 for other health care providers -

Newbie - How do I choose?
KateP replied to Shakti's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Please bear in mind that I am a very happy and very successful bandit now 9 years post-op. I do not regret my band, would do it all over again and if I ever have to have it removed, I would hope to have a replacement. When I was banded in 2006, it was a miracle surgery. And for some people, who accept that they will still have to work hard, it is just that. It was and still is for me. But over the years it has become clear that serious complications necessitating further surgery are much more common than originally thought, some of these are avoidable by careful eating and by not keeping the band tight; unfortunately others are beyond our control. We used to be warned about band slips, leaks and about ( very rare) erosion into the stomach tissue but it turns out that a build up of scar tissue round the band (causing it to tighten) is quite common. It can be very difficult to get the right level of restriction and some people are tempted to keep it tight enough to physically limit food, in fact it was once thought this was how it should be. But this causes food to back up into the oesophagus and that risks problems such as oesophageal dysmotility which may be irreversible. It can also damage the vagus nerve. Quite a number of doctors have stopped implanting bands as they found the removal rate was unacceptably high and it was too easy not to lose enough weight. Revision from band to sleeve is not uncommon! We still need lots of will power. The band makes it easier by dimming hunger, but it does nothing for head hunger and, contrary to popular opinion, it does not and should not physically stop us eating. If it does it is too tight! Having said all that, I love my band, I know many successful long term bandits in real life. My own experience has been good and so has that of almost all those I actually know and have met. But don't rule out bypass. For many people the element of malabsorption is a key factor. -
October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves
bindi replied to SkinnyMinnie2Be's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
so I went into the hospital yesterday morning for my revision.. band to sleeve. I was so excited so when I woke up from anesthesia the surgeon told me he could not do the sleeve because my stomach was so damaged from the band. so I have been banned rebuild and he says we could try in 6 months and possibly be healed he said there was no way he was going to touch my stomach with staples. I would have leaked for sure. I'm home and disappointed but I'm glad that he took the band out of me. -
Official August thread! Where are you guys?
tls1210 replied to Faithoftheheart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am scheduled for Monday, August 24. I am on day 2 of a five day clear liquid diet. I'm not so much hungry, but I am kind of weak. I have been making and drinking homemade broths. I see a lot of you have protein included in your diet - my Dr. said nothing about protein only clear liquids and I have been wondering about not getting enough protein. I am very nervous and excited (at the same time) about the surgery. My Mother had a revision from the Sleeve to Rny n April and had several complications - she is still not feeling up to par. So, all those complications are in the back of my head and making me anxious. Btw, I am in Pittsburgh. -
October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves
ashleytn replied to SkinnyMinnie2Be's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey everybody! I'm scheduled for a revision on October 3 with Dr. Chris Sanborn. I initially lost 75 pounds with the band, and started having problems and gained it all back plus some. I'm in my pre-op diet now, and yes I'm starving. lol I think it's interesting that every doctor is different with what they require on their pre-op diets. I'm very excited for my revision that I can hardly contain myself. lol -
With the sleeve you can eat whatever you want after the post op diet. I do have trouble telling when I am full. I have to stop eating by looking at the portion and knowing how much I can eat. If I eat until I am full at the table, I am too full and uncomfortable 15 min. later. There are a lot of us who are band to sleeve revisions and we are all thrilled to be rid of the band. As far as I know, there are only a couple of people who have trouble eating early in the day. I have been able to eat and drink right away from day 2 of surgery. I had to force myself to slow down when I was in the hospital, because I was supposed to only drink 2 oz every 15 min. I could have easily drank whatever they put in front of me. Feel free to ask anything. We are all glad to help. I revised to the sleeve after I gained 15 lbs back from having my band unfilled. I was a self pay though.

My revision is scheduled for june 28th. The removal and sleeve are being done at the same time. When is your surgery scheduled?
-
You are not alone! Im a revision too and am so tired of people asking me how much I have lost. (not that much) I dont count anyhow..and im not perfect..but yes I can relate to the slow loss:) I still have 45 pounds to loose =/

VSG revision to Gastric Bypass
LaurenB8604 replied to staceymaelofton's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hey all! I will be revised from my sleeve to gastric bypass on July 20th due to a pretty large hiatal hernia as well as gerd.. I have lost about 70 pounds and I am over a year out from the first surgery. I have heard the weight loss is slower the second time around and I am just curious on what the weight loss has been for others in a revision. Would love any feedback on weight loss! -
When he told me the band was a much better option, I was like WTF!!!!! I'm like he wouldn't dare say that to the score of people that have HAD to have revision. He's a great surgeon, don't get me wrong. Top notch hospital and all that. But I refuse to do the band. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

I am having a little issue with my port site, of course, I am a nurse and have been uh, treating myself, ahem. :lovechoc: Anyway last week the scab was catching on my clothes, so I revised it, trimmed it back some ect. Then I got a tiny amount of pus, no big, maybe didn't dry well from the shower, right? Dried it moved on... Last night scab catching again, sigh, I was revising it again and it came up, 1 cm open area at the end of my insicion, scant amount of pus, cleaned with saline, dabbed dry and secured with a butterfly. My follow up is on the 16th. Anyone else had a problem with the larger incisions healing? The three smallest are good.

I never had the band but wanted to say welcome!! There are several people here who revised. I bet you will hear from them soon!
-
I did lose most of my weight with the band, but starting putting it back on when I needed a revision. I probably put 20 back on which I lost on the post op sleeve diet, plus 15 more.

VSG revision to Gastric Bypass
SleeveandRNYchica replied to staceymaelofton's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am in the same process. My sleeve dilated during pregnancy (I was not overheating) it was a difficult pregnancy. The weight I gained I have not lost and my gerd is horrible. So I went in for a the upper gi and barium swallow a few weeks ago and he determined that I have severe gerd and a dialated sleeve, which he says he has seen in several post pregnancy sleeves. I am scheduled for an endoscopy the end of May. In the meantime, they are contacting my insurance regarding revision. I have BCBS Federal, I am not sure if I will have to go through all the requirements again. So just waiting. Good luck to u. -

Time for a Revision??
reverie replied to TxChelsey's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I do wish you the best of luck in whatever route you take, but in the end, the weight-loss starts with you. RNY, DS, the sleeve, Lapband; no matter what WLS method you choose, you have to be willing to make the lifestyle change, and it seems that you aren't ready or just don't want to. WLS to me is just a tool. Yes those who get RNY/DS lose quickly, but in the end it comes down to you to make the healthy choices, both food and exercise wise. Maybe the band isn't for you, but with your mindset and eating habits, another WLS may not get you to where you want to be either. None of them are a perfect answer; they're all tools to use to help you during the lifestyle change. While the malabsorption may help you more than the band could, still eating improperly will cause you to gain the weight back. I'd consider therapy or just talking to someone about your eating habits. You can't eat unhealthy and expect to lose weight just because you revise to DS or RNY. It's not that easy. -
Me too. Banded 2005. Removed 2011. Sched for VSG 6/27. Hope all of us revisions do great this time around!

I have had no support. Got banded Jan of 22. Since then I have only met with my dietitian once and that was upon request. I’m so confused as to what to eat. I just had revision surgery last week. I had a port leak. And now I’m trying to figure out what I’m supposed to be doing. That’s why I just got this app. Any advice?
