Whats The Best Cream Soup With Most Nutrients
lsereno replied to 1Bumblebee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I liked Anderson Split Pea. It has 9 grams of Protein per cup. I could eat about 1/2 cup max early on. Can you have greek yogurt? I like Fage 0 Plain with some Splenda. Lynda -

Today was better...sort of. Had my am shake blended with 1/2 banana. Lunch shake plain blended with Ice. Drank couple glasses of water and an ice tea. Then lean cuisine at dinner. Was still hungry so ate a cup of steamed broccoli. Then a couple bites of plain yogurt. I'm still hungry, but heading to bed. It's hard to go from 2000-3500 calories a day to 900.... -

P.S. I'm supposed to have 3 protein shakes a day and added fruit isn't on the list, but I opted to try 2 shakes instead of 3 and add the fruit. (And cottage cheese) Tommorow I'll try to do 3 protein drinks and see how I do. I also bought some plain Greek yogurt to fill in for and shakes I skip. -
Here I am on day 6! So far, I have lost about 9lbs, that is not unusual for me. I retain water so that is what most of it is. BUT!! I will take it! Today has not been too bad. We did some running around and right now I am taking a break from my Saturday chores. I had a pretty big bfast. Eggs and a sausage. I just had some grapes, yogurt and chicken for lunch. Gotta go! I am going to surf the web for a minute and then start cleaning again.

Its my husbands first day home and 3rd day post op he is very happy to be home, but I have noticed its a little harder to keep him drinking fluids at home. I have enlisted the help of our kids, every time they walk by dad they ask him if he has drank something. It seems to be helping we went for a slow walk around our neighborhood park and he did great, the more he walks the easier it is to pass his gas, which means less belly pain. He is having sugar free jello 2oz every 15 min and will have some pain yogurt later today. He is trying to sleep but in a house with 3 kids, its a little hard. Hopefully this means he will sleep through the night. good luck to all the post ops and the future ops, your future is in your hands

You can drink milk blended with a raw egg. This is called an egg flip I believe. If raw eggs freak you out, buy pasteurized eggs or try egg powder. With a little sweetener and nutmeg, it's pretty tasty and not eggy. A cup of milk has 8 gr of Protein, the egg 6. Theoretically you could just drink A LOT of milk or eat lots of yogurt. The carb count is a little high but that may or may not be a problem for you. I'm not a medical professional but I think the protein is more important than worrying about saturated fat at this point. We have to eat protein to keep our bodies from using our own muscles (including our heart) for energy. Our bodies can use fats for fuel but we also need some essential amino acids and if we aren't getting those from food, we'll lose more lean muscle mass. Saturated fat may not be good for us in the long term, but I trust you won'rt be eating the protein bars forever. They could be a temporary thing that you use until you can get your protein in from food. I am about 6 weeks out and there is no way I could eat enough protein to get at least 50 grams a day. I drink 2 Protein shakes a day.

The one I had didn't have that many grams of sugar. Only had 9 I think, I looked at their regular yogurt and the sugar was really high, but the drinks aren't.

You definately need to plan ahead but it is doable. I personally use premier Protein ready made shakes. They have 30 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar and are 160 calories. They will fit nicely into a lunch box and are a great source of protein when you are starting out. For me, I lived on Greek yogurt, 1% cottage cheese and Protein Shakes for nearly the first 4 weeks. I still eat those items daily for Breakfast and lunch. They are great protein and fill you up. I also added fresh fruit to this line up at 4 weeks. Strawberries and watermelon, apples....you name it. Also I leveraged Protein Bars, 1 oz portions of cheeses and 1 oz. portions of nuts.

I know during my full liquid phase 32 oz were to come from stuff like water, shakes, Propel, broth, Gatorade Zero, etc. and the other 32 oz from stuff like blended bean soups, cream soups, milk, yogurt, sugar free pudding, etc. Do you have any paperwork/a binder with that info for reference that the doc or dietician gave you?

Translation help - french speakers
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bigmamaAfrica's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am not really a French speaker but I studied French in high school and college and am a bit of a Francophile, especially when it comes to movies. I did a quick Google search and found a couple of things that MAY help. Look for the brand Jockey cottage cheese in the yogurt section of a supermarket. Also, "le cottage" may be on a label (http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2011/12/le-cottage-cheese/). I also seem to recall from something I read years ago that there is a completely different name for what we call cottage cheese and that it is more rustic/country in France. I will see if I can find out more. -
I was the same way. A friend of mine who is nurse helped me but my issue was the sweetness, she added some FF greek yogurt, unflavored, the protein shake a a little coconut milk. It made a huge difference in my being able to tolerate the shakes without getting nauseous.

I asked my doc specifically and from day one he said non-fat milk was fine. I was SO glad because that's the base of my Protein shakes and I was worried I would have to do without those. They are my main salvation!!! I'm doing better as well. The Fourth was indeed hard with all the lovely smells coming from the neighbors yards. I went to a baseball game and EVERYTHING smelled good but when I actually looked at the food, it was like "bleah...no way". So that's good. My friend INSISTED we needed to get ice cream after the game and I didn't want to. I ended up buying a non-fat yogurt and not even eating it. It's still in my freezer. THAT IS A HUGE CHANGE FOR ME!!! I'm usually a little b*tch for ice cream!! Also doing better. Back at work after a week and two days off. It feels SO weird to be back at work! Oh well, gotta do it if I'm going to pay off this surgery. Don't want them to come reposses my band!! The bloat is gone, I lost 13 lbs REALLY fast and then my body seems to have put on the brakes, which is okay. Thirteen pounds in one week is pretty hard on a body. Still have a bad burning next to my port and it hurts if I sit for too long (was in a bit of agony at the baseball game.....also when something good would happen and I'd yell real loud...OUCH). Overall doing good. Having ZERO trouble getting liquids down, even thick liquids. I can see how I'm going to need a fill sooner rather than later!!

For breakfast I have a fruited Greek yogurt with the following add ins: 1/2 scoop whey Isolate Protein powder (this makes it thicker and adds about 12 g of protein), unflavored Fiber powder, Splendra to taste; a couple broken up walnuts (I roast a pan full which brings out the flavor), about 1/2 cup high protein Kashi Go Lean. Even before restriction this would keep me full for about 4 hours. FYI for cherry, raspberry yogurt I use chocolate Protein Powder.

Protein shakes can be made ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator. I also bought my yogurt. It doesn't take much to get filled up. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

What did you buy for liquid n soft food ?
notmyname replied to avm1014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Liquid: Premier protein, unjury powders, syntrax nectar powders (I like variety - and syntrax has some that are more fruity than chocolate, like lemonade and fuzzy navel - they have a trial pack you can buy). Milk (fairlife - more protein), greek yogurt (oikos triple 0 - would think out with milk. Note that some people aren't allowed yogurt on liquid phase) Pureed foods: I made a bunch of this stuff before and froze it: tomato soup, black beans (I just cooked, added some broth, and pureed), pureed sweet potatoes, pureed spinach. cottage cheese, yogurt, hummus, eggs (note, some folks dont do well with eggs at this stage), stuff to make eggface's ricotta bake (google it - ricotta, parm, mozzarella, pasta sauce, egg. I liked to add in some pureed spinach for flavor) Soft foods: tilapia, egg salad, zucchini, green beans, tuna (I tried tuna and it did not work for me, but it does for some. Good luck! -

Why didn't anyone tell me it was going to be this hard?
#sdontdefineme# replied to uscbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 month post-op today. The first week was hard especially the first 4/5 days. It DOES get better. I have no regrets. I feel good, I am working out now and trying to get my energy level up since I gave up caffeine pre-op. I was discharged on full liquids +yogurt but the protein shakes and yogurt were too thick so I had to seriously water them down. Hang in there. -
Go back to liquids for a day or two. Avoid yogurt for awhile, you may have become allergic to milk products.(lactose). For the pain all I can suggest is to keep walking and to sip warm broth, tea even just warm water, hopefully they will soothe your pouch. Best wishes

At 3 months out I can eat a 4oz yogurt with no pain or problems but a 1.5 to 2oz meat of any kind is all I can eat. Is anyone else able to eat a larger portion of something soft than with siemobe solid?

Does anyone eat fruit in this forum???
Jachut replied to soocalchic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, I guess it depends on your perspective and idea of food priorities when banded. If you're always trying to eat Protein and fill up on that, then you'd find it quite difficult to consume much fruit. Its very filling and I find it quite hard to eat, its one food that causes me quite a deal of discomfort, although I can get it down. Sometimes I have a glass of juice. But whole fruit is better. I personally try to get at least one piece of fruit in per day - usually I'll slice up a banana to have on Cereal for Breakfast or I'll have a fruit smoothie, or I find I can get it down with yogurt too. I focus more heavily on vegies as I find it much easier to eat a wider variety and greater quantity - and I figure fruit and vegetables as one food group, so I dont worry if I havent had "fruit" as long as a large portion of my daily intake is fresh produce. But I dont focus on protein or do protein first so its a lot easier. I dont tend to eat fruit as a snack. I dont find a piece of fruit that appetising and never have. I like the look of a healthy, full fruit bowl on my kitchen bench and I'm very prone to buying fruit and not eating it, its something about the texture/crispness/coldness that I dont enjoy and never have. -
What kind of soups are you guys eating ??
TiffanyP replied to formerfatchick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Split Pea is a Fav - but not for most people. Progresso Tomato Basil is very good. Old fashioned Campbell's Tomato is a standard. Gazpacho - I make a very chunky version, but blended it for a better tasting and thicker V-8 type deal. Cold Cucumber - Yummy. Made the old Cabbage soup - blended - looks gross but tastes good. Lentil is very good. Sweet potato - It was good - the whole 3 spoonfuls i got before it was consumed by others. Butternut Squash w a swirl of greek yogurt. I am going to make taco soup - blended - can't imagine that it is going to look pretty, but flavor wise I think it will rock. Italian tortellini - it is basically an Italian Minestrone with tortellini in it, that should be good too. I love to cook, and I have been cooking since day 3 and the only thing I have made for the family that I have even wanted to have is a slice of cucumber and onion that I pickled in vinegar/sugar. I am handling all the food prep and eating with other much better than I had expected to. Good Luck! -

Thank you so much!!!! It has been an interesting road finding foods that work and don't work and then having to go back to stage 1 a few times because even yogurt would get stuck!!!! But honestly after YEARS of battling with my weight the band is the best thing that has ever happened to me(besides my husband)!!!!
