That is a great NSV Dee! You are doing a great job and I hope I can be as successful as you one day. This is also a great example of one bad day doesn't have to mean failure... every day is a new day to start anew.

Just have to put down in print a NSV I had today Yesterday I got myself down because my day started just like every other day for lunch I wanted soup and decided to have a bowl of onion soup...then another... and in each bowl I put oyster crackers in them...My down fall is pretzles and saltie crackers are trigger foods for me... so from there on it was a eatting frenzi for me...Thank goodness I dont have any junk food in the house...so I over did with good things... I woke up this morning with a fear OMYGOODNESS please let me get ahold of this eatting and not have a day like yesterday...( I swear I even dreamed of food) So breakfast I had my usual yogurt...ok....lunch time I had a bowl of salad with a C of cottage cheese garnished with some slivered almonds....4 bites in and I was wow...Im full !!! But I was scared not to get my protein in so it took me a hr to get it all down.... Then I started watching TV as I folded laundry....The Cake Boss....and they were baking with Choc...and OREOs....and OO WOW I wanted choc !!! SO I got myself a small SF jello cup....took 2 bites and really enjoyed and thought about the taste...I satified my craving and folded the foil lid back over the cup put it back in the fridge and I was happy... This may all sound like such a small thing to some of you...but for me its a HUGE NSV.... A year ago I would of had one cup cuz I wanted one....the second cup to taste it...and a third cup cuz I didnt even taste the first 2......Food controled my every min of my days...to be in control of food is the best......
  5. I went to the store this weekend to buy all my 'outside' aisle things (that's my new goal - to only shop on the outside isles, dairy/eggs, veggies and meat). The cute little devils outside were selling my FAVORITE girl scout cookies. I didn't think it was fair for my husband who has NO struggles with weight to have to pay the price for my dieting ways (he's helping out so much already) so I bought him some Thin Mints and Tagalongs (both which I could do without). It took me a good 10 seconds to win the internal battle to NOT buy some Samoas (mind: "I can eat a couple and the kids can have the rest") but I DIDN'T buy them. I knew going in this would be one of my major pitfalls - I had already allowed myself to splurge on these but when the time came...I resisted! I'm so proud of myself. Next test...MiniEggs!
  6. My workout shoes are too wide now! I just got these and they will come tomorrow. Can't wait! I got them in "Dark Shadow."
  7. just a quick update from me... I am now back to 164, what I am calling my all time lowest (I did see 163 once, so I am not counting that!). HUbby has now lost 17lbs and is really looking good...he is getting his waist line back! He is also reporting a feeling of well being that he hasn't had for a long time! To hear him say that is amazing cos over the last three years, he has had a really tough ride of things. This way of eating is really benefiting me and I am starting to feel a little more confident. This is going to sound really strange, but I am 'feeling' smaller. I went out Friday night with the peeps from work and my hubby said that I looked 'tiny'! In all our married life, he has never used that adjective on me.... chuffed! After 5 weeks of following the primal style eating I am starting to look at sugary foods in a different light... they don't interest me anymore! Here is an example: me and hubby went to the cinema last night... normally we would consider this a 'treat' and associated with that would be lots of chocolate, cola and popcorn. He would have a large bag of M&Ms and I would have a small (which isn't that small actually...lol) bag of popcorn - we would share the drink. Anyway, last night we shared some dark choc - 4 squares each. I took some macadamia nuts and dry cranberries and he had some dried apricots! Talk about an NSV!! Didn't look for anything else... wasn't interested in the sweets or popcorn shop...Oh and we shared a bottle of water!!! Chuffed or what! This, after 2 1/2 years out is definitely a sign that progress never stops. I am looking forward to seeing my PS now, to see what he says about the TT ... I really think that this will mark the end of my journey, and regardless of what the scales says, I will be where I want to be. I'll keep you all posted! Hope you are all doing well... Oh, and thank you swizzy for pointing me in the direction of Mark's daily apple...

This is why I come on here and read posts. You all are so inspiring!! I don't feel so alone on this roller coaster ride. I don't think I have ever been so emotionally and physically up and down in my entire life! Thank you so much for "being there"...even though I don't post that much...I read...and it HELPS!!!! some of my NSV's...being able to take off my old jeans without unbuttoning them, positive comments from friends and family, being able to put socks on without almost having a coronary, but most of all...my back not hurting as much! woohoooooo!

    All this talk of....

Cleaning our closets out finally got to me, so I went in to do mine, and it is only about a quarter full now. Got a nice NSV in the process as well. 2005 I hit the lowest weight of my adult life when I went from 324 to 249.8, I stayed there for a couple of weeks and then started gaining again. During the that time I bought a couple of nice sports shirts that I really loved, but haven't been able to wear since, and I ran across them while I was cleaning. On a lark I tried them on and they fit. Now looking forward to the sale at Kohl's in a couple of days with a 20% off coupon in my hot little hand.

    January 2013 Bandsters!

Hi Steelerfan. I'm in a similar situation. Lost 23 lbs from pre-op diet to eating mushies...which was 10 days after surgery. Since starting all foods...about 10 days ago, a loss of only 1 lb. I've been following a food plan...around 1,000 calories a day so I know it's not because I'm eating too much, or the wrong foods. I've seen other posts where folks say they have stopped losing, or have even gained. I wouldn't worry about it if you are following a sensible diet. Look for those NSVs instead..are your clothes looser? Can you move easier? I had a great NSV at work last week. Before the holidays, I got a lamp for the desk in my office. I couldn't get under the desk to plug it in...till last week when I could finally bend enough to reach the power strip. Those are the kind of little or big things you look at when the scale isn't moving.

    1st NSV

Congrats! NSV are always better I think than what you see on the scale. It shows you are in charge of ur band and changing ur life. Congrats once again.

That's terrific. Great eating out experience. Keep up the good work. NSVs Rock!

    1st NSV

I went out to dinner with my husband for the first time since being banded 3 weeks ago. I ordered salmon and mashed potatoes and left with over 2/3 of it in a box, I didn't even touch the other side dish! And I was full! In the past a meal out meant appetizers, a few drinks, salad, and dinner. And of course I would eat every bite, then maybe even desert. Following the band rules it took the same amount of time to eat the smaller portions as it took my husband to eat his whole meal. Being able to eat a reasonable portion and feeling satisfied is a NSV for me. I honestly don't remember the last time I experienced that before the band.

I didn't count either of my hospital stays. It is very disheartening to lose weight, go in for surgery and gain a lot of weight. I didn't count the water weight gain from IVs either time into my lose. The day of surgery I weighed 237. That was Dec 15. Now I'm at 201. I've been a slow loser too, I believe. I'm 8 weeks out from RNY w a total of 36lb lose. I went in for second surgery @ 204, gained 14 lbs. so back up to 218. I was so discourage but what could I do but wait for the water weight to come back off and it has. The numbers on the scale are discouraging. You have to look passed those #s and look at what Smile was talking about and the positive NSV statements. We have to remain positive cuz all negativity ever did for us was help us put on the weight. We all are going to reach stalls but we need to restructure on minds on how to deal w those stalls. Gen :-) 12/15/12

    skirt silly

Lol I can also relate, I remember I used to put skirts up against me and they would be ankle length only to get home, put them on and they'd be much shorter. All my skirts ate now the right length and a few I had to get rid off they were far too long and if course way too big. An awesome NSV!!!! Gj cg!!!

  17. What an awesome NSV! Keep it up!
  18. I broke 300!! I just weighed myself and 298 it is! I am happy dancing, next goal 250. Although i feel like i look like the Grinch, all gut and little butt because the girls have shrunk more than the belly. I know we loose from the head down basically. My very first NSVs!

Congratulations! I love reading about NSV. I am only 8 days post op but pulled a pair of shorts out to walk around the block and they were so big I had to roll them up at the waist! Awesome feeling and I know there is so much more to come! Can't wait!

    My very first NSVs!

I've been super frustrated with the scale for the past 3 weeks because that number hasn't been moving. But I just looked in the mirror and realized for the first time in my life that I have a real, honest-to-god neck!! I HAVE A NECK! It's not just extra chins anymore I feel like a freaking swan...it's silly, but I am off the wall thrilled. Also, you can see that I have a collar bone! I've also gone down 3 pant sizes since December, and consequently can now fit into my University's circa 1900's theatre seats!! I can now support my department without bruising my butt! Bonus. Getting sleeved was the best decision I have ever made.

My NSV is that I'm smaller than my husband. Lol. My favorite jeans are huge on me especially in my thighs and legs. I walk without getting winded. I've had a had time with my emotions and I just had to take a step back and look at the positives and not want I perceive to be negative. I've lost 32 lbs. Yay me. I'm one month post op today. I do need to quit feeling sorry for myself and just take it one day at a time. This app and all of you has been just an amazing support family for me and I've incredible thankful for all of you. God Bless

Great idea regarding the NSVs! (what does it stand for?) nice saying versus? lol! Went back to work this week and I keep hearing how great I look, well rested and like I'm glowing. Everyone keeps saying how clear and nice my skin looks. I think some of my dark spots and malasma has cleared up. YEAH!!! Also, dropping a pant size is a major bonus! Yeah for RNY!!! Good luck with the CT scan!

Welcome back! So sorry to hear that you were sick and possibly have a hernia. I will keep you in my prayers and hope all goes well tomorrow night. I LOVE the idea of NSV's and really need to throw the scale away myself. I too let the scale dictate my mood for the day and that is just crazy, there is just no point to it. My first NSV would be getting a winter coat on last night that I couldn't wear on Christmas Eve AND it was over a sweater! I was really happy and made me realize that it did not matter what the scale said. I will post more NSV's as they happen. I think I am on the brink of switching to a smaller pair of jeans (yay me!).

been a minute since i've posted-i've been sick (i blame my 16yo for the cold, can't blame her for the confusing pain on my lower right side-might be a hernia from surgery, but we'll find that out during a CT scan tomorrow night). quite honestly, i've been super exhausted just about every day for the last week and i'm tired of it, i want my energy back. i've seriously missed catching up with all of you although i do read through a lot of posts through the e-mail feed on my phone. it looks like a lot of us are being plagued by the same things, slow weight loss being the front runner. i decided i'm losing the scale, until i feel like it will have moved significantly...maybe. because i'm sick of letting it dictate my mood for the day. i won't participate in any more weigh ins, i know i've lost weight, inches, i can fit into 5 pairs of jeans i was way too chubby for before surgery, i can wear some XL tops, my hubbys hoodies (that i live in) dwarf me now, and yesterday when i got my monthly massage my massage therapist who didn't know i'd had surgery noticed i'd lost weight-THAT'S good enough for me for right now. i want to feel good about me, and i want that to translate to all of you. i want to be proud of you and your accomplishments too. please feel free to be excited and announce every victory you notice. let's start posting our NSV's, i think it will be helpful to us. for those of you who don't know; an NSV is something positive that's not related to the scale moving. it can be someone giving you a compliment on how you look, noticing your own cheek bones, getting on a bicycle for the 1st time in years, walking a mile, getting your wedding ring back on, passing up a bad food without batting an eye, not having to take an obesity related medication you used to have to take, your hubby fitting his arms all the way around you, etc. the list is endless! i posted some of mine above-my favorite was my compliment from victoria and the fact that i can wear (and zip!) so many pairs of the jeans i used to flow out of! how about you??
