    Fitness/exercise Planning

Wow it sounds like some of us want to do "K's". I was thinking once my doctor tells me I can exercise I'll be slowly startting to train for an 10 or 15K myself I was thinking training was like a year so I would do one for my 40th next Feb. But if I could do a small one like a 5k this summer I'd be so sprung!!! (ok I'm showing my age) I go to the doctor tomorrow so we will see
  4. That's how I would read it. Personally I would have 8 oz at say 8:00 am and another 8 oz at 10:00 am so that you can spread out your eating.
  5. I went in for my second post operation visit with my gastric surgeon and have no complications. I have kept a record that started 3 weeks before surgery, so for a total of 10 weeks I have lost 64 pounds.I started at 397 and have a goal weight of 200. I go in for an adjustment on July 18 th, my surgeon does his adjustments in the hospital and only in the office if a emergency. He says this is much more precise and my dietitian agrees totally. I have yet to try a lot of different foods, pasta rice, vegetables, fruits, so I'm looking forward to that. I was so happy with my weigh in because I didn't step foot on a scale since before the operation. I figured if I do as I'm told and stick to the amounts I'm supposed to eat I will lose. Also, since I have such an enormous amount to lose, at this point weighing all the time would be like an emotional roller coaster. Why put myself through that? I was so happy I cried in front of my surgeon, the relief of finally feeling like there is HOPE is so wonderful, I hope everyone can get that too! 133 pounds to go!
  6. Past pych and all other test..just waiting on insurance..so excited...
  7. I had sleeve surgery in Tijuana with Dr. Frayre from Ponce Bariatrics on December 5th. Like anyone, I was nervous about going over the border for this and my family was pretty freaked out about that, although they supported me in making this decision. I had the single port surgery through my belly button ($6,000), and for an additional $700, they took out my gal bladder as well through the same hole. My starting weight was 210 lbs, 34 BMI, and 5'6" tall. I had a friend who had gone through Dr. Ponce and had a great experience, so that is why I chose them. Dr. Frayre is another surgeon who works with Dr. Ponce and I was told that they always do surgeries together, even though I can't verify that, as I never saw or met Dr. Ponce. I won't lie, the first couple of days were rough, and it was my first major surgery, so I have nothing to compare to, but I do believe I received excellent care. I am a total sissy when it comes to pain and I really think I have a lower than normal tolerance for it. I was in a sort of tiny hospital called "INT clinic"...only about 12 or 14 rooms total and I had a room to myself with bathroom and walk in shower. The nurses were great and so responsive, even though they spoke little to no English. My single port incision is about an inch long, and located not so much IN my belly button, but at the top of it which was different from what I thought. I have a very deep and narrow belly button, and they have to get all their instruments through that hole, so maybe that is why. I also had a very small drain incision. From my experience, I wouldn't say my recovery was faster with this surgery, but if you want less scars, this may be what you want to choose. You could save $1,000 and just go with the regular surgery and have 4 or 5 tiny incisions. But I am healing well after 10 days and no issues. I do believe Dr. Frayre and Dr. Ponce are accomplished surgeons. I was told Dr. Frayre had the sleeve surgery himself. This is long, but I hope this info is helpful. Feedback on the Top 10 lists

I'm enjoying having the Top 5 back. It makes me feel less like I've ODed on crystal meth than the Top 10.
  9. I appreicate the hard work of the mods, etc. to keep the board up and running. This is an incredibly useful and supportive place. I also know change is essential to survival. However, in my opinion, the new Top10 lists present too much information on the homepage. It's too overwhelming a visual to take in and be useful at first glance. I liked having the top 5 recent posts and the newest joiners. But to see the top 10 posters and the top 10 thread starters is too much information. People come here to read the threads. With the stats at the top, it makes it appear that this place is stats driven instead of information driven. It also stretches my screen. As these pieces of information are interesting, perhaps you can move them to the bottom of the screen with the list of people currently online. That way if people want to see them, they can scroll to the bottom to view them. Or maybe you can have that info customizable by user? Or in an expandable view so each person can click the subject to view the related statistics. I know that no one asked lil ole Nathalie her opinion, but I thought I'd share it anyhow. :uwelcome: I design marketing materials, and part of my job is to make webpages, brochures and marketing collateral pleasing to the eye. I couldn't help but provide a bit of feedback on the recent changes to the site. Take it, of course, for what it is: one person's opinion. Nathalie
  10. I'm 4 days post op and I'm having problems getting in a lot of fluids. I'm thirsty and want to guzzle down my crystal light but I know I can't and I've been trying to take small sips every 10 minutes, this has become a chore and makes me feel bloated....especially the protein shakes! How much fluid can you handle at once? What should I do? Thanks everyone!

    Vacation After DS?

I don't want to sound discouraging and everyone is different. I had my surgery 06/10/2014 and there was no way I could have gone on vacation three weeks out. I went back to work this week and I'm exhausted. I had stretching and pulling pain on my left side around two incisions until last week.

My story, 1 week pre op

Hi! My name is Felicia. I am 45, going to be 46 on May 2nd. I have 2 beautiful daughters, ages 23 & 29 and 2 grandsons, ages 2 & 5. I am married to a wonderful husband and we will be renewing our vows on our 10 year wedding anniversary June 25th of this year! I live with multiple chronic illnesses and multiple sclerosis. I've survived cancer twice! I'm very blessed to be alive. My family consists of mostly obese people and a lot of the health conditions that go along with obesity. I am determined to NOT be obese. I lost my mother (12/19/2012) at age 69 to colon cancer, diabetes, heart disease and a bunch of other health conditions that were related to obesity. I see what my children are going through missing there grandmother. She was my best friend and I was her sole caregiver 24/7 for the last 4 years of her life. I do not want to do that to my children or grandchildren. I am determined to lose weight the right way, get healthy, stay healthy and BE HERE for my family. The loss of my mother is hard on all of us and may have been preventable if she had not smoked, stopped smoking and taken better care of herself. Although, I suffer every day with pain, fatigue and multiple symptoms from my illnesses and disease...I am detemined to live! I've had 38 surgeries, 50 epidurals for lower lumbar back pain, 3 spinal surgeries, H1Ni, viral menengitis, a terrible car accident that left me with a brain injury, migraines, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, etc. I could go on. My heaviest weight has been 255lbs at 5'7. I started my weight loss journey at 232. I've tried all of the diets and fads....they didn't work for me. It's hard for me to get regular exercise in due to my health conditions BUT...I can walk, thank God! So, I walk. I do what I can when I can, which makes it hard to get and keep the weeight off. I started my weight loss journey in February of this year at 232lbs and am currently at 216lbs. My VSG surgery is on May 4th, 2 days after my birthday (my gift to myself) and I need to be at 212lbs by then. I've been on a full liquid diet for a week...and the weight JUST ISN'T COMING OFF!!!! Any suggestions? I am drinking 3-5 prepared protein shakes daily, along with all of my vitamins and minerals suggested by my doctor and 64-90 oz. of water daily. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Purée Pain

I started purees today. Couldn't eat but a few bits of ground/pureed chicken (10 grams protein per 2oz), egg & broccoli this morning. I even divided the 2oz to .05oz. For lunch I decided to open one of my many infusion tuna (2.8oz -22 grams protein) containers that I primarily got for my lunch at work starting next week. Put a little greek yogurt in it - tuna already seasoned with lemon/thyme. As I was making it I was feeling (I'm not even hungry) but I put a little tuna & a little ground chicken measure from breakfast in a plate. My nutritionist wants me to try to eat 2oz meals for breakfast, lunch & dinner. I have tons left! I will try to eat a little every 2 hours - 30 minutes after liquids. My before/after plate & left overs to try to comsume by end of day. One protein shake or fairlife milk will get me to 60 grams of protein for the day. P.S.: It was very flavorful & smooth ; )

    Trying Not To be Frustrated

Hi All! I had my sleeve done on August 19th where I weighed 247 lbs. Today Sept 10th I weigh 237 lbs. I am totally ill with this number. I dropped those first 10 lbs the first week and now in my 4th week the scale won't move. I'm counting proteins and getting in at least 48 to 60 oz of water a day, plus working out 5 days a week. I am at a loss. All I can do is keep doing what I'm doing cause it's not like I can get upset and over eat since I can barely get down the little I eat now. Did anyone else have this issue? Sorry for this boo-hoo Blog. I just know next time will be better...

  24. I know we all hear about how important it is to drink Water and I probably hear it more than most, as I get it drilled into me every morning at our Safety Meetings on the mine site. They are constantly telling us about hydration/dehydration and have a very high focus on it, because of the heat out on the mine. I thought I'd heard everything there was to hear about how good water was for you, but today they gave us some new information and a lot of it really made an impact and is particularly relevant to weight loss, so I thought I would share it with you all. I've underlined the really interesting bits. WATER How 8 glasses a day keeps fat away Water is the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. It is important to drink 8-10 glasses (approximately 2 litres) a day. You should also increase the amount if you exercise briskly or if the weather is hot and dry. It should preferably be cold because it absorbs into the system quicker than warm water. If you're not getting enough water, your body fluids will be thrown off balance and you may experience Fluid retention, unexplained weight gain and loss of thirst. Ultimately, when your body gets the water it needs to function at its best, its fluids are perfectly balanced. Water supresses the appetite and helps the body metabolise fat The kidneys need enough water to function properly. When they aren't receiving enough, some of their workload is dumped onto the liver. The liver's main function is to metabolise stored fat into energy for your body to use. Therefore, when the liver has to do some of the kidney's work, it will not function fully. This results in the metabolism of less fat, therefore more fat remains stored in the body and weight loss stops. Drinking enough water is good for fluid retention When your body is not getting enough water, it begins to hold on to every drop possible to survive. When this happens, water starts to store itself outside cells and this can lead to swollen feet, legs and hands. To prevent this from happening, you must drink plenty of water! By doing this, you will be releasing the stored water from cells. An overweight person needs more water than a thin person Larger people have large metabolic loads and since water is essential for fat metabolism, it is clear that an overweight person would need a large amount. Water helps maintain proper muscle tone Water helps to maintain proper muscle tone by giving them the ability to contract. It also helps to prevent sagging skin that results from weight loss. Water re-hydrates the skin and leaves it clear, healthy and supple. Water helps to flush out waste When losing weight, the body has a lot of waste or metabolised fat to get rid of and water aids in that process. Water relieves constipation When your body isn't getting enough water, it takes what it needs from other sources and the colon is a primary source. This results in constipation, however, by drinking enough water, normal bowel function will return. Things to remember Your body will not function properly without enough water and can't metabolised stored fat efficiently Retained water shows up as excess weight To get rid of excess waste you must drink more water Drinking water is essential to weight loss I know we all read and hear about how water helps in weight loss but often we don't really know why. I am the sort of person that needs to really understand a process before I can fully take it on board and this information helped me a lot. I hope it helps you too! DRINK UP!!!

    Today is a great day!

It can't be anything other than God's Grace that would have allowed me to feel so great considersing the fact that 1 week ago today, I was feeling miserable, almost depressed. Then I was 3 days postop and mourning food. Today, I am 10 days postop and feeling pretty darn good. I got a good haircut, went walking for 30 minutes at 2.6 mph at the Y and went to see a movie with my kids called Enchanted. It was about Happily Ever After and believe me it was perfect timing. Now, while at the movies I ate 12 Tortillia Chips with cheese. I chewed very slow but I ate it. I'm proud because I didn't have to eat the whole thing, I left half and my mind stopped me not my body. I'm 5% worried about eating it because I'm only suppossed to be on mushy. But I did chew real slow. Who knows? God Bless Me.
