    Meeting with Surgeon

@@retrieverguy - I asked what concerned me - lack of energy (how long) and hair loss (again how long). He answered both and has been right. The energy picked up when I could eat a little better and I cut my BP meds in half. I am now down to a quarter of a pill. Hair loss is a common post surgery issue...sucks, especially for a woman :/ The surgery was scheduled at my last pre-surgery meeting (guess that's why they call it that). I was pretty set on the idea of being first one on for surgery. I didn't want to wait in pre-op. I have only had surgery once before (index finger, last summer) and I was scared then and especially have WLS. I could've had my surgery within 8 days of that appointment because I had already started my pre-surgery diet pretty much and they were happy that I had lost weight already.

    From the album: A progression!

Maybe two years ago. Pretty heavy but not quite hitting three hundred mark. This is about my max of what I felt was acceptable for myself. I've always been the big girl and it wasn't a big deal to me at the time... with recent 25 pound weight loss this is semi-accurate of how I'm looking as of 8/14/12
  3. Try this: keep a food diary for a week and write down every morsel that passes your lips in a day. You might be surprised that you are eating more (or less) calories than you think. Either way it will slow your weight loss. Also make sure you are drinking enough water and getting plenty of exercise. And yes the band will limit your intake but you still have to make the right choices. Good luck!

    Possible Leak

I'm not real sure if I have a leak or not. I can't keep a fill. I'm loosing saline but doc can't find a leak with x-ray. He says my band looks fine. I'm obviously not keeping my fill for a reason. I'm self pay and worried about the costs. I have gained 30 pounds over the past 6 months. I'm thinking about just replacing my port. Does anyone know the cost for port replacement in Texas? Thanks for the help.
  6. Hello Sleeve Friends, Exactly 2 weeks post op I will be driving 10 hours to get together with close family and friends for my mother's memorial service. I'm wondering what I should anticipate in terms of pain/discomfort? Will I still have a bloated belly 2 weeks out? Will I have any noticable weight loss by then? What was your experience 2 weeks out?

    Very slow, very steady

Good for you. 4 pounds a month is great, and it fits into the 1-2 pounds a week "guideline" that some docs go by. It's really easy to compare ourselves to others on the board, but we really shouldn't do that. Even if you and I started at the exact same height, weight, BMI, surgeon and sam amount of cc's in the same band, we'd probably lose completely differently because our bodies just work differently. When I get discouraged looking at others stats, I just remind myself that I've lost more weight than I would ever have lost without the band and have kept it off. Good luck!

pregnant at 44 after sleeve surgery

Wow. Congrats. I struggled with fertility issues for years. I was sleeved 6/15 (lost almost 100 pounds and gained back around 15) and was shocked a couple of weeks ago to find out that I was pregnant - currently 11wks4days. I'm 42 and this is my first child. I'm convinced the sleeve caused my weight loss and that helped tremendously. My hubby and I had given up on having kids. So, congratulations again!!!

    Weight Stalls

Hello! I am currently a college student and I had surgery on March 14,2017. I have lost 25 lbs since my surgery. My body has went in complete shock. Two or three weeks after my surgery I had a period.... because of my birth control, I haven't had a period for amount SIX YEARS. During that week my weight was all over the place. Now that I am about one month and a week out, I feel like my weight lost is not where it should be. I have been working out almost every day since I had surgery but the weight is not falling off like everyone else. I don't know what is going on. Can someone help me!!!

    Doc Consult

See I'm a grazer with healthy foods. I get chips and dip like once every 6 months. I never eat fast food I don't eat fried food. I graze on cherry tomatoes, carrots, celery, fruit, pickles, 100 calorie cookies. I only eat fat free or super low fat ice cream but rarely. I loveeee to cook and bake but dont really eat what I bake. But still I can't lose weight.

    No weight loss

I was wondering if you lost weight during that 6 months if the insurance would approve you. Seems like they might think if you can do it during that 6 mos, why would you need the surgery.

    thyroid and wls?

I have hypothyroidism and despite lots of thyroid meds, I've had a really hard time losing weight for years. Surgery was 3/25, and 25 lb loss so far (includes pre-op loss of 10 lbs). Several nurses have told me that I will lose slower than people with normal thyroids, even if my thyroid levels read normal from medication. While this makes no sense to me (my TSH numbers are well below the normal range, which you would see in hyperthyroidsm...shouldn't weight just melt off??), it seems to be true because I feel like I'm still scratching and clawing for every pound. This is more and faster progress than I've had before, though, and I'm hopeful I'll be able to get to a normal weight one of these days. My endocrinologist said he would readjust meds as needed, but I hope we don't have that conversation for a long time. In my mind, any reduction of thyroid medication would just mean even slower weight loss. As far as the surgery, I was able to resume the thyroid medication within a day. Besides slower weight loss (for me, may not be everyone), I don't think there has been any difference in the process. I already had my thyroid issue diagnosed and treated before surgery, though...not sure if it would make a difference pre-op if they were just now addressing it.
  13. Hi. Just a quick intro. I'm 33 and weigh 250. I'm 5'6". I'm desperate to lose weight. I'm a mother of 4 and my mother in law lives with us. It's been a struggle to lose weight this time around. I'm so busy I can't find time to shower most days, not to mention excercise. Also with 6 other people in the house it's not feasible to make my meals separate from everyone else's. It just doesn't work. I feel so bad about myself. Nothing fits me in my closet. I have zero energy. I can't breathe. My back and feet hurt all the time. I'm just now considering (what I call) drastic measures. I'm really not sure where to start after checking with my insurance company. I never wanted to have to do this. I feel like I'm giving up in a way or that I'm just being lazy even thinking of going this route. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  14. My surgery originally scheduled for Sept. 10th has been delayed by the ladies in the doctor's office because of my food journal. Got the call first thing this morning telling me that they didn't think I was ready for the commitment that lapband surgery takes. I am a self-pay patient. I've met with the kind folks at the drs office for a total of 45 mins. tops during my 3 visits there. Yes, I did the info-seminar and was handed mounds of stuff to read that just sat in my cute little bag they gave me. My identical twin (who lives with me) went through the exact same surgery last year. I have her as my support. I know what it takes, I know what I need to do and am willing to do it. The one thing to my detriment was I gained 2 lbs (had my last supper so to speak before my 2 week liquid diet). I also was a little too honest on my food diary. One the one hand it's my fault and I am 100% committed to this (always was really-just now I'm really ticked off and want to prove them wrong). On the other hand, I feel let down by the team because I don't feel I had enough counseling and meetings with the nutritionist (never even met her - yet she's the one who called me today). Well - I had my pity party - it's ok...I will still have the surgery in September. I'm just a little hurt and feel a little run over but I will tell them exactly how I feel about this whole situation...AFTER surgery :)3

    Youngie

If I had one regret it would be that I did not get this done sooner. I'm 47 and have been over weight since I was 25, I went through a major depression. All I can tell you is that I had all kinds of second thoughts and fears before having the surgery. I was scared it would not work for me or I would fail at it. But I was so ready I had to go through with it. I was banded the 28th of May and have lost 17 pounds since and I can say I'm glad I got it done. Even if something happens and it does not work I at least tried. But I do believe you need to want it like Carolina girl would say. It's all in the "want power". Good luck ~~~Stephanie

    A Great Little Snack Food

When I was following Atkins 2 years ago (yes lost weight but gained it back, sigh) anyway, for a snack I would microwave turkey pepperoni until it got crispy, talk about fast and it was yummy. Lower in fat and calories compaired to regular pepperoni.

    Good or bad

Getting the proper amount of Protein may be your problem - protein is one of the most essential items in losing weight and not developing muscle wasting or protein deficiencies. But the amount of weight will vary from person to person and the percentage of weight loss is a better indicator of how you are progressing. Hang in ther you are doing great. Just really work on getting that protein intake to at least 60-80 grams a day.

  19. I am starting to freak a bit. Surgery scheduled for the 28th and I am wondering if I should have done RNY. I am afraid I won't lose enough or I will gain it back...I have always eaten sweets and RNY might deter that...any words of wisdom?

    It's a Shame

Oh Melissa, I know exactly how you feel, but I decided to put one on anyway. Everyone on here is here for the same reason. I'm terriably self-conscious of my weight and that's why I'm here...to change that. Don't be ashamed, be proud that you've made a decision to change your life.

    Stretch marks

Does anyone else suffer from extreme stretch marks I have them everywhere my back sides arms above my breast and of course my stomach. I've lost so much weight but I fear wearing anything that will show them. My arms have finally gotten smaller where i can wear sleeveless shirts and I oh so love them. I love them as shirts, dresses they look so much more appealing. But i also hate the fact that those darn stretchmarks are so visible. Does anyone else have the same problem or am I alone? And being an African American they are much more visible then ever..
  22. Hey. How has it been going for you? How much have you lost? I've currently stopped loosing the weight and it's getting harder.
  23. I had surgery 9/19. Close to six weeks post op..lost 39 lbs incl pre op diet. I worry about meeting someone in the future and having loose skin and being embarrassed to become intimate. I don't know how I will look when the weight really starts to drop but I am a bit worried about that.

    Sleever in the News

I was happy to see some positive representation! And the comments were nice, a rarity on any weight-related article online.
  25. I have been in contact with a gentleman that works with Drs. in TJ and will be setting things up as soon as the freight slows down. That may be awhile, but yeah I didn't gain all this weight over night and planning is the key here. We (my husband and I) we considering going to Monterrey, but the logistics weren't right for us. Has anyone else been to Drs. in TJ? I hope I don't have to quit smoking. I know it irritates the stomach, but what else can a person do driving down the road and you've run out of music to listen to. Will cross that bridge if/when need be. Take care and be safe.
