I think we all struggle... we all want instant results .. we are eating less..so why doesn't it fall off!! I myself have set myself up to fail I look at other peoples tickers and get depressed and get on myself!! What I and so many others have to realize is our bodies are diffrent and we will loose in diffrent stages. My biggest thing that I have to overcome is my sweet treat after I eat. Having trouble getting rid of this craving so instead I've decide that if I have this craving then to have soemthing but make it 1 of somethign not a row of Cookies or nice big slic of cake. So snack packs have been a help and I try to hit the gym everyday and do cardio and weights. I have set one goal outside of weight and it's to try to be on the treadmill 3 days a week till I burn 400 Calories. I'm only half way there and boy does it kick my A$$!!. I think if we set small goals we have many achievments versus one large goal and never achieve it. Good luck everyone we can do this:thumbup: -
My surgery is scheduled for December 4th
SuzyQutie posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This has been a long process for me as it has been for everyone else. It's a journey when I started I really thought it would take forever before I even heard the word surgery scheduled. I started out at my heaviest weight being 256 I'm now down to 237. I'm anxious about how I will handle the pre-op diet of liquid for 2 weeks. Can anyone give me advice, recipes are great too? Sent from my XT1650 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hi all! I live in SC too! I am going to the Weight Management Center through Palmetto Health Baptist. I also considered Lexington, but went with Baptist for a number of different reasons, but nothing to do with the center or surgeons specifically. Just personal preference. Hope everyone is doing well on their journeys! Good luck to all of you and keep us posted on your progress!

And how about the first time you could cross your legs comfortably? I wear scrubs for work and buy them at a clothing outlet nearby. I used to take size 2X, but as I lost weight I had to buy some new, first in large, and next (I thought) in medium. I usually pick out tops and pants and try them on at home. Well, the tops were okay, but the scrub pants still looked baggy. I couldn't possibly be a small! I packed up the pants and went back to the store. This time I picked out one pair of small and tried them on before exchanging all the mediums. Well, people, the small fit! Gosh, darn I haven't been a small since I think age 12 maybe, if ever! What a rush! -
Welcome Claire! I completely understand wanting to just survive the recovery phase. Especially those first couple of weeks! I too could give a wink about weight or meds immediately post-op, I just wanted to concentrate on getting some kind of nutrition in my body so I didn't feel so weak. I'm sorry that you're suffering from a cold. I can only imagine how much more frustrating and taxing it is on your recovery process. However, like all things in life, the cold will pass, your recovery will come and you will be well on your way to success. This site is a great place to come and ask questions, read others experiences and just have conversations in general about the sleeve. I hope your recovery is quick and that quickly and positively adjust to this new life style. Good luck to you!

Just Starting The Lap Band Journey
Makinchanges4me replied to Makinchanges4me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just ordered the book by Alex Brecher. Yesterday I picked up a book called "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies". And am currently reading a book on Lap Band surgery from True Results. Does True Results just do the Lap Band? Has anyone had weight loss surgery thru True Results? What was your experience? Guess I'm a little concerned as I understand that you lose 40-50% of extra weight w/surgery. I'm 4'11" and weigh 170-172 lbs. I need to weigh around 100 to 105 lbs. So if I am only able to lose 35 to maybe 40 lbs in 12-24 months, I'm still very over weight. And I'm wondering about the expense and effects of surgery on body for just 35 lbs. I'm probably being concerned about nothing. Any weight loss is healthy for me. Any advice appreciated? Thanks! -
I am new to this board. I am thinking about getting lap band done. I have a consultation on Thursday 7/3. I am just meeting the 100 lb requirement and have no other "health related" issues, other than the normal back aches and depression from being over weight. I am hoping they will approve me. The lady on the phone told me not to diet this weekend...haha! Oh and my name is Reeny!!

That stuff is so addictive! my hubby is soooooo addicted to mountain dew, but not the diet either. He drinks a 24 pack of them in 3 days, not exagerating either. No one has ever seen him anywhere without one in his hand, or pocket. He just happens to be one of those lucky people that has a high metabolism and doesnt gain a pound from anything. seriously, he is 6'2" and weighs 179 pounds. it is sooooo not fair. I keep telling him one day his age is going to change his luck and then he is going to be huge! good for you kicking that nasty habit, i swear if my hubby could have an iv hooked up to it he would. his blood has to be yellow green by now...hehe

I set my own goal weight...my starting weight on surgery day was 218 lbs and a 41 BMI. I'm vertically challenged at only 5'1", so I'm short. My original goal weight was 110 lbs and a 20 BMI, but since I was losing so slowly, I readjusted my expectations at 3 months out. My revised goal weight was 130 pounds, which placed me at a BMI of 24.7 (upper limit of normal). I reached 130 pounds at 14 months out and decided to keep going. I entered maintenance at 118 pounds and a BMI of 22. Not only do I like how I look and feel at this weight, but it's been easy to maintain. The moral of the story: you'll need to devote additional effort if you want to get to 135 pounds, but it is possible in spite of what your surgeon says. Good luck to you.

Just Starting The Lap Band Journey
gowalking replied to Makinchanges4me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you been to a seminar? You should go to one just to have the chance to hear the answers to your questions. If you don't go to a seminar, ask your surgeon to explain the process to you. I can tell you a few things. Firstly, the doctors all seem to have their own pre-op requirements so only your doctor can tell you whether you will be on a diet, and for what length of time. Surgery hurts. Some people have more pain and discomfort and some have alot less. Again...it's very individualized. Make sure the doctor tells you what to expect so you don't get scared by anything. The biggest issue with post-op is the gas they fill you up with. Some people have alot of discomfort till that gas dissipates. The only thing you can feel is your port. It feels like something hard just under your skin. Be aware that as you lose weight, it becomes more pronounced. You can't feel the band that's around your stomach. I can't tell you anything about fills as I haven't had any. Again....research, research, research. That's the key. The more knowledge you have, the more empowered you are. Good luck and keep us posted. -
I had my pre op class today. It was so informative. I was told about 2 or 3 weeks ago to lose some weight before now because I was up 6 lbs. I lost 4. I was really excited. But it was short lived when the doctor told me my liver was still big, and I needed to go on a straight liquid diet till surgery on the 16th. I kind of have a guilty conscience, because I did eat cheese and he knew it by the way my liver felt (how weird).
-
I am not having a revision, but I am having the gastric bypass because I have a fatty liver and this should resolve it. The weight I have lost preop has brought my enzyme numbers to almost within the normal range.

Hi Kammy: I too was banded in October, 08 and things had been going well until about 4 weeks ago and all of a sudden it's like boom the weight stopped coming off. I went to the doctor's Friday and the NP spent some time talking about how much I wasn't eating enough Protein and really needed to focus on that. I go next week for another fill, this time by "feel" rather than by what the x=ray would show. I really hopes this will be better as I'm able to eat alot of food no matter how much I try portion control, etc. Keep up the great work. In reading through many threads, it appears that the band works differently for each person. I personally liked the weight loss vs. maintaining.! Have a good weekend.

Hey Mindy! I'm in Texas too, Fort Worth. I started out at around 250 as well. I've lost 21 pounds so far. I'm due to have my 2nd fill next Wednesday, thank goodness. I don't have much restriction at all right now. I gained two pounds this past week, but it was because I ate bad over the holiday weekend. I'm back on track and hope to drop that two pounds again. I know what I need to do, I just don't always do it. I would love to have a buddy that understands what I'm going through and can offer some advice and support. You have done so great! Wow! 100 pounds off in a year. Congrats! It must feel so great. I can't wait to get my first 50 off. It will make me feel so much better and I haven't been under 200 in years! Keep up the good work. I hope to hear from you soon! BTW - My name is Brook

Hello all! I am having issues with my band and need your help. I have a 4 cc band and only had a 1cc fill. At night after falling a sleep I started to cough and vomit in my sleep. I even stop breathing altogether. (very scary) This was happening every night no matter how early or late I would eat my last meal, and even when I tried doing a liquid diet. I didn't feel like I had any restriction when eating at all. I went in for an unfill, and am doing much better now, but I am not at or anywhere near goal. Also, I don't want to gain back the 70 pounds that I have lost. Has this happened to anyone else, or does anyone know why this might have happened?? I have an apt for Thursday to get scoped, but I am so worried that I may never be able to get another fill and gain my weight back...

Hi there. I was banded on Monday (5/17). Everything went really well. My doctor did a single incision in my belly button and used Durabond instead of stitches or staples. I am still pretty sore, but I haven't needed to take any pain medicines with it. I can't say that I have gas pains, but I do notice that when I take a walk, the burps start coming up. I am so afraid that I am going to throw up every time this happens. I also can hear my insides churning like crazy! I know I must be retaining a lot of fluids from my IVs and gas as the scale showed that I gained 7 lbs since Monday morning. I hope that when the gas ends and I rid myself of the Fluid I will go back to my surgery morning weight, if not lower. I don't think it is hunger pangs as much as my system trying to kick-start itself. Has anyone else had this? My biggest challenge right now is that I am terrified to eat or drink anything. I have been sipping on decaffeinated iced-tea today. I had two bites of broth and a SF popsicle. I am scared to eat anything else at this point. I don't want to throw up and cause issues with the band slipping. I don't have restriction, but I know my stomach is still swollen from surgery. I am so overwhelmed in how to eat from this point out. Any advice/suggestions/words of wisdom from those of you who have had great success?

Your Weight Matters (YWM2014) Conference in September - Are you going?
Ava324 posted a topic in The Lounge
I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this topic... Anyone going to the conference in Orlando? http://www.ywmconvention.com/ We had a member of OAC give a presentation at my support group last night, and I'm totally enthused about this and would love to go. Has anyone been before? -
Has anyone else felt stressed from inforation overload prior to the surgery. I read the forums every day and print a lot of theinformation and recipe idea and eating hints but my folder is becoming unmanageable and I will never remember all this information. I am still trying to find out the BEST andmost delicious way to get my Protein in liquid form during those times when i just don't feel like eating. I am from the old Weight Watcher school and still do often mae a shake from skim milk and some frozen peaches or strawberries but NO protein. I feel like my head is going to explode. carol:eek:

It is always best to lose as much as you can. It makes your recovery much easier on you. Also, makes the surgery so much smoother for the surgeon. It shrinks your liver making it easier for the surgeon to work around. Any weight you can lose will only benefit you!! I lost almost 60lbs before my surgery and mine was successful and I have had no complications or troubles. I was able to go back to work in only 7 days and I feel great! My dr. said that he wished all of his paitents would follow his advice as I did! I also don't have very far to get to goal!! DOUBLE BONUS!! Do what you can to get some weight off before surgery. It will make your life easier afterwards Best of luck to you! Kelly

I'm having my surgery Friday too! I'm also pear shaped.. I was wondering the same thing A friend of mine that was banded had lost weight on top then she started losing on the bottom.. But everyone's bodies are different

You have made me feel so much better. Thank you so much. I am getting anxious/nervous, not really sure what word best describes how I feel. Mainly I am excited about the fact that I am actually going to lose weight. I'm not one who has ever really lost weight. I gained and have pretty much stayed where I am now. I go up and down 10 lbs and that is really about it. The fact that I am actually going to be able to lose the weight once and for all is almost overwhelming. Good luck to you and I can't wait until we see how we are all doing in the next few weeks.

Seriously....

I know that I didn't put the weight on over night...I guess I just thought that I would see more progress at this point. -
Only one month from a year never thought I could lose as much weight as have in this amount of time was the best decision I ever made. This has been a hard year as far as personal life. The only thing that had been good is the weight loss. My sw. 451 cw 246 goal was 250 now I'm just going to loss as I don't look sick. I get to go back to Tijuana mx with a friend next month on my one year mark and I know dr ponce de Leon will so a great job for him.

I guess there are other ways to measure weight lose besides the scale, it's fun to notice our knew bodies. I realized my neck looks like it grew 3 inches.

Does anyone know what taking BCP's does to weight loss? I started taking a continual double dose of my BCP'S so that I'm not constantly having my TOM, and have only lost two lbs in the three weeks since then. My weight loss stopped the day that I started the double dose. Coincidence?? It is totally possible that the stall is just a long third week stall, but I'm about six weeks past surgery and have basically been in a stall for three. And I'm eating my Protein, getting my Water, getting exercise, and having about 600-700 calories daily. Ideas anyone?
