Great suggestions from others... if those don't work for you, then maybe try intermittent fasting.. Only eat during an 8 hour window. That seems to work for people. I am on a 10 day stall & I am so close to my goal. It is so frustrating. I ramped up my exercise routine yesterday... and I am hoping that will work. If not, I am going to do intermittent fasting. Good luck!
  2. It's a new week! How are you doing and what are you thankful for/glad about this week? I'm thankful I had the chance to sleep in yesterday due to the Labor Day holiday, even if my body woke me up earlier than I'd have liked. I'm thankful that my taste buds have changed in ways to help me avoid some foods, as my boyfriend made some chicken nuggets last night and I took a small bite of one just to indulge and ended up spitting it out because it just didn't taste good. I'm glad that gochujang exists as it has amped up my pureed chicken salad in a very delicious way and gives me just a little spice.' I'm glad that I've reached my first weight loss goal and am not working on the next one. At my current trend, I should hit it in 10-12 weeks, though I'm not going to get upset if it take a little longer. I'm glad that I am taking a short 3-4 day vacation next month to one of my favorite places now that the summer crowds will be clearing out. I'm a little scared since I will have less control over my food and there will be some dining out, but I'm using the next month to prep and find options that will work best for me.

    Pouch reset and fiber

I am starting my pouch reset today and am 10 years past surgery. I am wondering if anyone did a fiber supplement during their reset? I usually take Metamucil for my IBS. Also any other tips for a pouch reset would be great. I didn’t even know this was a thing until recently.

    Any one take Gabapentin?

I am 10 years out from surgery. I take 1200 mg of gabapentin at night and 300 in the morning. I do not get nauseous from it. But everyone is different.

    My VSG pouch too big?

How did this turn out for you? I started mush foods today. I measured out 4 oz of mushy food on my food scale and expected to save half for tomorrow. I felt ZERO restriction while eating. I probably ate around 2.5-3 oz. I have waited 3 mins between bites and even took breaks to wait to get full. It never happened. I got so concerned that I stopped eating and left the rest of the bowl alone. I also can drink a great deal. This is the opposite of what I’ve read happening so I’m wondering if I should call my doctor. I’m also a slow loser (having lost only 10 lbs since surgery), so I’m paranoid.
  7. Yeah, this forum is really helpful for preparing. I do not like surprises, so I wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting into -- the good, the bad, and the ugly -- before I committed to surgery. I also watched a ton of YouTube videos and found those helpful as well. Some of the ones I watched are Kimberly H, Minnie Me in TN, My Level 10 Life, Clusie L, Timetodeflate, and Foodie Turned Sleevie. There are many more (which you'll see on your recommended videos once you start watching WLS channels), but a lot of people just have a couple of videos about WLS. Like so many things in life, WLS is a tradeoff. You have to make big sacrifices, but there can be big rewards. It was important to me to understand going into it what I would be sacrificing and what benefits I would get. It was daunting to think of what I would have to give up for WLS, but when I looked at what I hoped to get out it -- to get my health back, get my mobility back, and so many other things that I have missed out on in my life because of my weight -- it was a lot easier to accept those sacrifices.
  8. Thanks, but this actually started after I was doing only shakes & water. I'm in the "soft" food phase now (sleeved 8/19), but can hardly eat anything. I constantly feel like I'm force-feeding myself after eating a 10 course Thanksgiving dinner and can barely move. I literally can't get down more than about 20oz-30oz of water and less than 10oz of my protein drink per day. I could go days without eating as it just makes me super uncomfortable. It's not a gas thing (just fine in that department! LOL!), so I'm not sure GasX would help, but I guess it couldn't hurt to try.
  9. Hello, Can anyone help on the process of Virginia Premier /Kaiser Medicaid? Some back story: I was furloughed in March and lost health insurance in June. I was a Kaiser member in 2018 before my employer changed health care option and I stopped my Gastric Sleeve process in 2019. Now after Covid I am on medicaid and saw that Norther Virginia offers Kaiser to medicaid patients. Has any gone through this process with medicaid? Can I just pick up where I left off with Kaiser?

    EGD experiences

I DID IT!! 😁😁😁 The hardest part was the clear liquid diet the day before. I was very ready to have it done the next morning to say the least! My husband kept me company in the pre op room and kept me laughing. I did tear up a little about 10 min before we went back, but the entire team was amazing and reassuring from the nurse to the anesthesiologist, to the nurse anesthetist, and of course my surgeon who did the procedure. The best part was the big surprise with weight loss and it wasn't just from the clear liquid diet the day before lol! My weigh in at my consult at the end of July was 325 and on Friday I was 316! After they turned me on my side and put the bite block in, they gave me something that relaxed me and then gave me the anesthesia. I was keeping my eyes open so they wouldn't start til I was out. The room got really wavy and all of a sudden I was waking up in the recovery room! It was absolutely amazing. Trying to get my bra back on was the hardest part lol. I started eating jello, then rice pudding, then a PB&J, and by dinner I had chicken breast and veggies with no problems. I had a sore throat but it was very mild. Everyone told me it was super easy and they were 100% correct. 2 more appts left until we schedule the surgery!!!

    Truck Driver needs research help

You can’t (legally) bring back any controlled substances. I wasn’t checked the two times I went (once for me and once for my wife). One time we were driven across by an employee of the surgeons office, the other time I opted to just drive across my self. We had some tramadol both times coming back but they never searched. They can search and they can confiscate it and they can fine you, or any combination of those depending on the CBP Agent. Going into Mexico was easy, they only did a COVID temperature check on us one time, didn’t ask for passports or where we were going etc. Coming back in US customs just asked what city we visited, how long we were there and one asked why (“stomach surgery”) and we were on our way with no further questions, no search etc. I was advised to NOT say we had medicine if asked, that would make a search more likely. I was also advised that a fine (if levied) would be the same whether I declared it or not. I’m not a lawyer, I’m not versed in CBP policy, official or unofficial, that’s just what the guy who transports medical tourists across the border every day for a living told us, I’m sure he’s seen every scenario. I’m similar to you in that I like to know every detail so my own research into crossing with medicine for the most part confirmed what our driver told us. In most cases it seems like CBP is pretty reasonable if it’s a small amount clearly for personal use (you’ll have wounds to show) and while some did have small amounts confiscated anyway, the fines I read about were for people bringing back 100s of pills, not 10 or 30. BUT AGIAN, it’s always possible you get someone having a bad day or who won’t be understanding...
  12. I had VSG on 8/19. Everything had been going well until I started my latest "phase" of food intake. As of Thursday, I'm in the "soft" phase and can eat ground/shredded meat and other things. Friday night, I had about 2 tablespoons - if that - of very moist shredded chicken and about 1 tablespoon of refried beans - I felt comfortably full. Since I had leftovers, I had about the same amount for lunch yesterday (in addition to a few teaspoons of cottage cheese for dinner, a protein shake, and lots of water throughout the day). When I weighed myself Wednesday (as required prior to my first post-op dr. visit that afternoon) I was 211. Last night, I literally felt heavier, so I weighed myself this morning - I'm at 213.5. My food & water intake have been below what they should be as I seem to get a stomachache every time I eat/drink (the doctor is aware) so I don't get it. Any idea why this is happening? I'm going to the bathroom (ie, not constipated) and eating/drinking less than I should be. To be clear, I am NOT weighing myself daily, however this 2.5# gain in 3 days is disheartening. 😞

    Back and Forth, Very Nervous

Thank you! I updated my username. The people in my family are not in the medical field but I am also getting mixed advice from health professionals that I trust. I am no longer worried about gaining weight and I feel comfortable maintaining right now, with a BMI of around 37 (which is still too high). I think I can lose weight very slowly and with a lot of effort but I think to be able to do it in a stable way it will take me years. Also, I don't know if I would gain much back. I don't think I would ever get heavier than this point but I don't know if I can eat as little and exercise as much as it would take to maintain a BMI of 25 or below. I think if I didn't do the surgery, 1 year from now, I would probably be about the same, maybe 0-10 lbs lighter. I just feel like I'm wasting my 20s obese and want to move on and enjoy my life ASAP. Thank you both for the support.
  14. I used shakes on and off for years and I’m petite build 5’1” and I have a hard time loosing on them. I loose the first 10 easily but after that it’s a real struggle. I lost maybe 6 pounds on my 2 week liquid diet. I had bypass on 7/16 and I’m down 22lbs! 42 with my presurgery loss.
  15. After 1 failed surgery and 1 cancelled surgery, I believe that the 3rd attempt is going to happen. I am excitedly nervous after the first attempted surgery my blood pressure dropped to 40/20 and my O2 went into the 60's after the anesthesia was given to me and they had to stop the surgery. That was exactly one year ago on 9/5/2019. Then I was scheduled again 3/26/2020 but we all know what happened in March (Covid), when our lives were all halted, so no surgery then. Over the last year, I have been diagnosed with a rare form of asthma and the treatment for that has been successful, my blood tests and pressures are all very stable, and I feel that my body and mind are finally ready for this to happen. I am scheduled to have my RnY on 9/16. After all this time (I have been waiting for this for 3 years) I can't believe it is actually going to happen. If you think that going on the pre-op diet once is bad, try 3 times....LOL BTW-does anyone ever cheat on the pre-op diet??? This diet sure reinforces my decision to have the surgery, so I can have a smaller stomach and less hunger to help me stay in control of my food. It is so hard to control my food, on this pre-op diet, for just two weeks. I am a Christian and have always felt that God was leading me to do this. I know that Dr Hunter is Very good and has brought me this far. He would not be doing this if he wasn't sure of the procedure. I have to be in the operating room for 6-8 hours because he has to take down my Nissin surgery before he can do my RNY. I know that God will be with the team and watching over me......
  16. I am 10 days out. It was too painful to drink water day 2 and 3. I drank vitamin water. I had some in the house and it just was less painful. Now I drink water with no problems. Just much smaller sips than I’m use to.
  17. Tell them you doing Noom. Everyone is looking for a diet that is easy and fast. Only my husband knows I had WLS . I did have my hernia repaired so that is what I told everyone my surgery was for. I don’t want WLS to define me. I hope I can handle the questions when they come. I’m only 10 days out but I returned to work on day 6.

    Anyone for August 2020

Hey Everyone, I am 10 days out. I had a wonderful experience in the hospital. I slept most of the first day. It was hard not being able to have anything to drink, but rinsing my mouth did help. I only used my pain meds at night. I slept in the recliner which helped a great deal. I returned to work on day 6 and just completed a full week of work. I have lost 13 pounds. This has been a wonderful experience. Barely any hunger, some discomfort, but much less than I expected. Congrats to all of my fellow August 20 sleevers. Sleeved August 25th
  19. Yesterday I had my first post-op dr. visit (surgery was 8/19). When asked what protein shake I was drinking, I told the PA "Premier Protein". She nearly had a heart attack. While she was never rude or nasty, she was very firm and clear that I should NEVER drink that "junk" and I should ONLY be drinking Unjury Unflavored powder - which she made me order during our visit! I thought this was so odd. I went thru the bariatric program at another hospital before changing at the last minute, and PP shakes were not only acceptable with that program, they were encouraged, so I bought two cases of it at Costco pre-surgery. I didn't want to waste it, so that's why I'm trying to use it up. Any idea why this program is being so incredibly strict about only being able to drink a certain protein? I realize programs vary, but this seems unreasonable.

    Before and After Pics

Had my surgery, vbg revision to rny gastric bypass on 3/10/20.
  21. Definitely IV fluids & swelling. I gained 10 lbs when I weighed myself after I got out of the hospital. Took a few days before it came off. Don't worry - it'll disappear before you know it.

    Post op liquid diet

I think it's pretty normal not to be able to meet your goal for fluids the first few days. They pumped you full of IV fluids in the hospital, so you started out well-hydrated, and you should be able to increase your fluid intake gradually. How much did you drink in total yesterday? Are you sipping throughout the day? It's basically a full-time job for the first few days. Measure out one ounce at a time and try to drink that in about 10 minutes.
  23. I got pregnant from a failed IUD 6 months after I was sleeved. Just delivered and only gained 10 pounds during pregnancy. Breastfeeding and trying to find the right nutrition plan to lose weight, but get enough nutrition/calories to support breastfeeding.
  24. So I got an ESG 8/19. My weight 30 minutes before the procedure was 315. Today, I clocked in at 289. For the first time in my life, I think I'm concerned with my weight LOSS haha. Is it supposed to be this rapid? I'm currently on stage like 2b (full liquid with some puree if I can handle it). I'm a little concerned I'm not eating enough during the day which is why I'm losing so fast but I don't want to push eating on the chance I either pop a suture or throw up - which I really hate. Any suggestions?
