    Hitting 100S

I think he migh meant not so much the passing into Onderland as much as he means that you are getting very near your goal weight usually once you are lower than 200 - and that means that yes, lots of people slow down. This is not as much of a roll the dice type of thing as it seems. Even in a stall you create the outcome. Your body still builds, maintains or loses muscle and definition and you feel and act in direct relation to how you are dealing with your emotions and such. This is a very good time to look at your habits. If they have not really, truly changed drastically, they need to do so at this time. FYI - I say this in the middle of a MAJOR stall :/

How soon can I hold my son?

Thank you for letting me know your experience. I am going to try to plan it out and see what is best. May be, I'll keep my first 2 and let my husband take a few days off and let my mom watch my little one for me. Knowing her, she is probably going to takecare all of them. mzmouse - my doctor did not even mentioned about the weight limit. thanks for letting me know. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again
  4. Thank you so much for all of the information! Congratulations on reaching your year+ mark. Don't worry, I won't go to Mexico...again. About ten years ago I went through a serious bout of depression and was only about twenty pounds over weight but went to Mexico and had the band put in. Even the doctor told me it wouldn't work but he did it anyway because I was paying. Now I actually really need it. Let me ask you this and I'm also going to post it to everyone, too but have you had other bariatric surgery before? Is there a difference in pain or recovery time? I'm hearing how much pain some of these folks are in and I had absolutely no trouble with the band EXCEPT for such bad gas pains for a few days that I thought I was having a heart attack but as soon as those subsided I was hungry and able to eat anything. I just had the band removed about 18 months ago because quite literally my pouch had grown to almost the size of the other half. Just asking because I'm trying to gauge my recovery time for work. You also said you had no appetite during the holidays last year, because you didn't feel hungry? How about cravings? I'm pretty sure that's why I eat all the time. Did you feel nauseous, sick, achy, not hungry, out what? It took you a few months to be able to eat regular foods? I don't eat too many sweets or very often but I love meat and fruit. If I could actually afford to only eat fruit I'd be thinner and healthier but who can afford to only eat fruit? Lol. You lost 140 pounds in about 7 months, holy crap! I thought you should only lose about 10lbs per month? I'm at 275 now and would love to see 140/150 but I'd be happy just getting down to 200 again. Sorry if some of the words are wrong. I'm in my phone and auto correct is stupid sometimes. Lol Thanks again! I'm excited, I start my classes on the 7th for six weeks and then they are looking about the beginning of March for surgery. I can't wait. Talk soon! Tara
  5. Hey ppl!! I just wanted to share my before and during pics with all of you... I hadn't seen my old pics in a while and wow did I look bad back then... So started this whole process at 233 pounds (my highest ever) and was around 215 by my surgery date... I've been loosing slowly since the second week and the scale hasn't moved a lot in a few weeks which is somewhat discouraging but seeing this I get that I'm still loosing inches even though the scale shows almost no weight loss for a month now... I weigh around 189 and I'm 2 months out... I admit I haven't really dieted lately cause of the holidays but I have been more conscious about what I eat and of course my portions are very small... I struggle with getting all my Protein in and also with learning when to stop eating so almost every meal I get this full, really uncomfortable feeling but well I'm still learning... But oh well... Here are my pics (or at least I hope they got attached) ... The first 3 are from a few months ago when I was at my heaviest (holy horrible pics) then there's one with my friends around a week before surgery and the last are all from last week at home and from my trip to disneyworld last week...

    Getting ready

You can get the cool weight rulers or weight loss ticker at tickerfactory .com just follow the directions. Paste it in your Lapband talk signature area on your profile. As for protein - My dr. want you to have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and as simple dinner with meat (chicken, beef or fish) which is where you get your protein and 2 vegs. Just make sure you do all your homework before going to Mexico. Call local Dr.'s about aftercare and I would already have one set up before I have my surgery. That way you can follow what that Dr. expects from you and to know how much protein intake they want you to have and answer your question. I made copies of alot of post op menus for lapband from just going to different lapband sights. Every Dr. is alittle different. The more research you do the better prepared you are. Good luck with your journey!

    when to stop? my answer

It's funny cause I'm losing VERY slowly now. Almost 9 months out and down 110lbs. Still have 13 lbs to reach the top of my normal weight range but at this point I'm losing maybe a couple lbs a month and people are still telling me to slow down or that I lost enough. I feel like I'm barely changing but they seem to think I drop a pant size over the weekend. (I wish lol) I figure I will keep losing as long as I can and just hope to eventually get down to mid normal range. Only then would I think about actively avoiding losing more.
  8. I had a revelation last night. I am 9 days pre op and I had kept reading prior to my surgery that the band is a tool. It's not a magic cure all. Now I understand what that means. I've lost 26 lbs since I started the pre surgery liquid diet. And for a few days after the surgery I was doing great. Now the swelling has gone down and I can eat pretty well. The scale hasn't budged in two days. What does it mean? It means nothing in the big picture, I shouldn't be weighing daily anyway, but it reminded me of something. After alot of reading here I think I had started falling into the lap band trap. "Boy, it will be great when I get a couple of fills and the band starts doing it's thing and I start loosing weight." Hold on, I don't have to wait around for fills for this thing to start working. I can go dust off the elliptical machine today and do a light work out and start working the tool. The tool is me. The aid is the band. Ah yes, I knew I wasn't going to be able to hide from this thing called weight loss. We still have our parts play. We still have to buck up and face this monster. :angry :angry :angry BRING IT ON!:angry :angry :angry
  9. Many people who have battled weight for a long time don't recognize themselves in the mirror after they've lost a significant amount of weight. Others of us are the opposite: For those who haven't battled weight for a long time, when we gain a lot of weight, we don't recognize ourselves anymore. That's one motivator for pursuing surgery! Then, when we do lose a lot of weight, we start recognizing ourselves in the mirror again. No matter which group you fall into, you are not alone. Good luck.
  10. I had surgery February 18,2011. I am 30yrs. I have lost 38lbs. so far. I had my 2nd adjustment today. I am still very nervous about this new journey. I can't believe I have actually lost weight. Today I weigh 333 lbs. I feel very doubtful about my wight loss but at the same time very, very hopeful.
  11. I remember the day like it was yesterday, you will do great. Follow the liquid meal plan as suggested, the weight will come off quicker than you can imagine. When it starts to go you will have the strength to work to the next stage, thoughts and prayers with you.

    Weight Loss Goals?

I hope to lose 10 lbs a month after that first month. I am about 8 weeks out and my losing pattern is changing from that "I'm losing a pound a day" that happens the first month after surgery - to drop 2 and then hang out at that weight for 4-5 days, drop again etc. Stair steps. I would be happy with 8-12 lbs - actually I am happy with losing anything haha!
  13. I put on 12 pounds from the morning of surgery to the next morning! Like the others said, I got rid of it quickly and started dropping "real" weight shortly thereafter.
  14. YEP i gained weight also. Its the Iv fluid. And any fluids you drank is being retained, because your body is in shock.

    Hallelujah!!!!!!

8/13/08 This is my first post on this website. I am excited to start my journey with weight loss and into a new world! My life will never ever be about BEING FAT AGAIN!!!! I received the best news that I was approved by BCBS-NJ yesterday. I couldn't have been more excited. I should have my surgery within the next 4-5 weeks. I am waiting for the day now. I can't believe this is finally a reality for me!! So here is my story...in 2002 tipping the scales at 308 I vowed never to get any bigger. I went to Great America and was embarrassed when I couldnt' fit on the one ride I wanted to ride. The raging bull. So I began an exercise program on my own and I worked out 6 times a week, 2 times a day 45 mins to an hour each time. I lost 50 lbs from 3/1-6/1/02 as the time went on I continued to lose and eventually got down to 243 from 308. I maintained for about a year trying to reach my goal of 170-175 but it never became a reality. So as the time went on my weight started to rise . And nothing worked any longer. So here I am today 8/13/08, 330 pounds  and I will NEVER EVER see that number again:rolleyes2:. I should have my surgery by mid September. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

    Hallelujah!!!!!!

No I didn't give up on my program. I have been up and down for years. And researched and thought about this surgery back in 2003 and finally tired of going back and forth up and down. Also because I have gained weight I can't exercise like I used too. 2 times a day 6 x's a week.

    Questions for the Dr....

Hi. Congratulations on your accomplishments! What you would like improved is largely a matter of personal choice. What bothers you most ? If there are several areas, you may consider combined procedures. I have found that liposuction rarely benefits weight loss patients as they have lots of skin and very little fat. Look over my website photos at patients who may look like you, and you can get an idea of what is possible. John LoMonaco M.D., P.A.
  19. Monday morning, bright and early I got my VSG surgery. Everything went awesome according to the doctors. I recover well from surgery so I was up and about within hours of getting my surgery. Unfortunately the day I was supposed to leave I got a 102.4 fever. After a bunch of tests, they have no answers to why I have a fever. I'm currently schedule to stay until tomorrow morning, where they are going to do the last test, which is a ct scan. Then the doctor is going to reevaluate my situation. Has anyone had this happen to them post-surgery? I feel AMAZING, aside from my little battle wounds, you would have no idea that I had surgery. I don't feel like I've lost any weight, but mainly because I feel extremely swollen. All of these IV liquids and drinking 4 ounces every hour is driving me to feel like a puff ball.
  20. Hi everyone! Last post I made on this forum I was a bit confused and scared about my weight loss progress since I had lost my insurance in the middle of it all and was clueless as to how I was doing in terms of Vitamins and weight loss. Well, as I mentioned before I was able to get my insurance back and finally went in for a follow up appointment 6 months after surgery. As per my nutritionist, I am doing really well in terms of weight loss! As far as all my Vitamin levels go, I was low on Iron, (to be expected because I have a bleeding disorder) and on Calcium. Everything else was normal and right were it needed to be, especially the Protein levels! She recommended I change the calcium brand I was using because it may not work for me, and also suggested I stop my work outs for a bit until I am able to bring my iron levels back up. I usually feel really out of breath and dizzy after just a couple of minutes of working out, and it's not a Water intake issue since I always drink 62 oz. or more of water per day. Anyways, just wanted to update those who encouraged me and helped me get through those months of uncertainty and confusion and to thank all of you for being so supportive! You guys rock!! Here is another pic update!

    Please someone help me!

Do some research on hypothyroidism on the internet. You'll find that those of us whose thyroids don't work correctly are frequently overweight, depressed, and have fuzzy thinking. I started taking synthroid several years before being sleeved, and continue to take it now. I'm not a Dr. but I think it will make losing weight easier than without it. Synthroid definitely helps with your energy level, but it does take a long time of frequent blood testing to get the proper dosage dialed in so prepare.
  22. Hi everyone. I am so glad to have found this group. It appears to be a wonderful support and information system. I am a 34 year old, wife and mother to four boys (ages 4,5,9,10. The oldest two have autism). I have been over weight all my life, but my health has really went down hill since the birth of my last child. I have been interested in weight loss surgery for several years now, but because of a lack of insurance, it was not a possibility for me. In June of this year, my husband joined the Toyota production team here in Mississippi and we got insurance on day one. I began pursuing my options very soon thereafter. I have finished all of my pre-surgery testing: weight management visits, EGD, stress-test, colonoscopy, sleep study and psych eval. My appointment to see the surgeon again and to submit everything to the insurance company is this Monday, Oct. 24. It will take up to four weeks to get a surgery date after that. I will keep y'all posted. I have already met my max out of pocket for this year, so this should not cost me anything. Everyone wish me luck! :0)
  23. Hello! Weeks 3-6 I lost 3 lbs. per week. Weeks 7 and 8 , a total of 1.5. Is this a normal time for a stall? Anyone else experienced this? I have been working out and may have a nibble here and there, but not enought to account for 1.5 lbs lost compared to a normal of 6 in two week time frame. Help!
  24. My surgeon's office would give you a date after you had your last consult with him. Basically I think he wants to confirm you've lost the required weight and to feel your belly to see if he will have problems with the surgery. I got a call so I did not have to be physically in the office.

    When Will I Learn???

Ok, so I was banded on June 17. As soon as my swelling went down and I was feeling "normal" again, I started eating like my old self again. No small bites and racing through meals. Yes, there was some restriction and I could feel when I had enough, but it was usually after I had eaten more food than I probably needed. I had my first fill on August 30. I tried to eat like I had before and guess what? Sliming and nearly stuck on at least four occasions that I can remember. What is wrong with me? I know in my heart of hearts that I want to be successful and lose this weight, but my mind is not getting it! I am hoping that maybe one or two fills will be all I need to get to the sweet spot. I don't want to end up messing up my band, so I have promised myself to behave and chew carefully after very small bites. I guess it's true...it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks!
