    more random thoughts...

I posted this earlier today on another thread and it kindof fits here: "Last week I went to Boise to see my Grandkids. Great time and great kids but I ate like I just got off Survivor Island. Over 2 1/2 days I ate: 2 bags of chips and dip Appetizer and a plate of Pad Thai at Thai restaurant 3-4 country donuts see video! Ham sandwich and more chips 2 bowls of Cereal large bowl of frozen yogurt(various flavors) 3 pancakes smothered in syrup, two eggs, pile of hashbrowns and 4 sausages Red Robin fish and chips, 4 deep fried onion rings and a large pumpkin pie milkshake 2 helpings of lasagna 12 small snicker(Halloween size) bites I had gained 9 lbs by time I got home Monday. Every day since, I've lost weight(not fat) and I"m back down that 9 lbs. It was all Water retention. Processed foods will do it every time. Great video but not for the faint of heart: 2012-09-30 09.15.32.mov

January Exercise - HAPPY NEW YEAR! :)

BG- Yes, veggie kabobs are awesome! You start spinning classes next week, too??? So do I!!! I can't wait!!! I'm taking two classes, though...because each are only one day a week and I think that is just not enough for me! ZZ - Yeah, I have to make the chicken just so I can torch it like HoosierPoms! LOL I have never seen whole chickens MORE on fire than in that picture!!! Hilarious! And I gotta get that book! JM - Fresh fruit is the only way to go, believe me. Canned anything is pretty much crap-o-la. Fresh, fresh, fresh...YUMMY, too! Beware the cheese in mass quantities, though! It will plug you up, girl! LOL But I just saw a cheese advertised yesterday that is supposed to aid with digestion...what an oxymoron! I can't recall the name, but it reminded me of the yogurt Activia? Dunno. I'll pay more attention next time it's on. DiBaby - Get well, girl! We miss ya! Angel - We miss you, too! Glad to see you poking your head in from time to time! How you feeling? JM and BG - Honey is yummy! There is always Stevia, too! And it's completely natural!

    Introduction :)

First off congratulations on your future banding. I was banded August 27th and am still on the liquids...here are my thoughts. Being on the liquids can be hard because I swear if I have anything that tastes like vanilla, strawberry or tomato, I am gonna hurl! I had to get creative so I could tolerate the thought of one more Protein shake. UGH! So my friends and I went to the store and got some of the following: cream of anything Soup that I could put in the blender and make more liquid, Jello, maple yogurt (by brown cow), chocolate Protein powder (to add with Peanut Butter and milk), propel, diet snapple, pudding, lentil soup (put in the blender), the usual vanilla yougurt, popsicles, crystal light, tomato soup (I cannot stand it anymore...), squash soup, lentil curry soup...I so can't wait til the puree stage next week so I can add some meat and variety to my diet. I have mixed chocolate protein powder in a light mocha frappacino and I have also used vanilla protein powder in a fruit smoothie. I honestly don't know if you are supposed to do that, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Good luck, Chris:cool2:

    Help! Calories and carbs!

Post-op, you won't be able to eat fruits for some time. Or whole grains. Your carbs will be easier to control. The colored, green, red, yellow veggies are what you should introduce first. Some dairy products, even skim milk and yogurt, will be the greatest early source of your carbs. FYI, I wasn't big on the low-low-low carbs approach. Never was my thing ever. Also FYI (you should do your own thing, but you might like to know what others have done), my calories / Protein grams looked like this: Month 1 - 500 cals, 60 grams protein Months 2 - 4 - 800 cals, 80 grams protein Months 5-6 - 1,000 cals, 90 grams protein Months 7-8 - 1,200 cals, 100 grams protein Early maintenance - 1,500 cals, 100 grams protein Maintenance today - 1,700 - 1,800 cals, 80-90 grams protein My surgical physician's assistant (who stays up on the latest, greatest WLS research) encouraged me strongly to raise my 5-6 month cals to 1,000 and my 7-8 month cals to 1,200. She said if I continued to eat only 800 cals, it would stunt my future maintenance metabolic rate. I gotta say I am so happy I can eat 1,700 - 1,800 cals and maintain (now at 135 pounds). And I'm not a gym rat or a runner either. I do walk and move a lot more, do yoga, etc.

    No pleasure at eating anymore

I don't see why you can't eat a pizza burger minus the bun. I had my surgery the same day as you and am on soft foods and have had a cheeseburger the other day with sliced tomatoes on top. It was a small burger but it was good and satisfying. I think you'd feel better if you start eating some different types of food you do take pleasure in. Why can't you have salmon, or some other soft fish? Refried beans with some sour cream, taco sauce, cheddar cheese and guacamole in it? Chili? Deli meat? Greek Yogurt? Tuna? Eggs? Applesauce? Butternut squash? Green beans? Steamed carrots? Soups? Mashed potatoes? Oatmeal? Anyway, just named some of the things I'm allowed on my plan on the soft food stage. Do any of those things appeal to you?
  7. Probably the only reason I don't have that issue is because I have EOS (it's an autoimmune disorder that causes narrowing in the throat and can cause choking) and because of that for the past few years I've eaten really, really, really slowly because choking freaks me out and after wayyyy too many ER visits with food stuck in my throat I finally got a clue. 😓 My advice, take smaller bites and chew your food to MUSH before swallowing. If you are eating foods that you don't need to chew (yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.) then just take a small bite and then set the food aside for 30 seconds to a minute before taking another bite. Still keep with the small bites.

Stage 2B is what my NUT is calling it. Basically I can have ricotta/string cheese (skim), yogurts, broths, and chicken breast (moist). Not on to purée yet but I find it weird that I can have chicken Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein

Have you tried protein yogurt theres some that have 20grams of protein in them thats how i survived after my surgery. I couldnt drink protein drinks i wanted to puke with the site of them. For my smoothie recommendations check out pinterest theres tons of healthy smoothie protein shakes u can make, coffee, fruit u name it. Good luck
  10. I had my surgery 11/25/09 I have had 2 fills and now have 4.5cc's in my 10cc band. I eat very small amounts of good healthy food, I have never thrown up. I have gotten food "stuck" from eating too big of a bite or too fast, but the food does stay down. Sounds like shes got too much in her band AND/OR she is not chewing tiny bites like she should. Cherry Cheesecake as her daily food intake is a disaster....she should eat 3 meals a day. Here is my typical day for an example for you.... Breakfast: A cup of fat free yogurt Snack: A high protein drink Lunch: A piece of protein like grilled salmon, steak or turkey. Snack:Cheese& cracker Dinner: Another peice of protein (about 4oz) fish, chicke, pork, etc. A green veggie like spinnnich or broccoli & maybe a few bites of potato or pasta. Desert: no fat jello pudding or a fat free fudge bar. All good healthy foods. She needs to eat and take a daily vitamin so she does not become mal nurished...best of luck, you came to a great place for help.
  11. I feel lucky with my pre-op diet after reading through this. I get to have an egg and/or yogurt or toast or Protein shake or bar, followed by a Protein Shake, then 4 to 6 oz of meat and a vegetable and then a protein shake for dinner. Had a few tough moments but this seemed to be more of a "practice" time for after than anything else. Although I am 12 days in (with a day "off" for Thanksgiving and a couple of slip ups) and down 6.4 lbs so it must be working. I am with Dr. Marsden in Argyle, TX - he is one of the top docs which is why I picked him. He is pretty laid back and his staff is terrific. I am really hungry today, but I now know I need to keep my complaining to a minimum Hang in there!!! Sending positive thoughts!!
  12. Try the clear drinks instead. Isopure make premixed ones, Syntrax nectar can be made with Water. I used ProSource NoCarb the first 2 weeks post op. It was great thinned with water or added to herbal teas. Also look for protein rich beverages. Kefir ( a yogurt drink), cream of chicken, beef, etc... thinned with broth, etc... Milk of choice: cow, hemp, almond have the most protein.

I think it's ok to have fruits and veggies in moderation. I just prefer having more proteins but for fruits I add half a banana in my shake and I have been having blueberries and cherries cause they are in season. Sweet tooth comes and goes but usually the protein shake takes care of that need. Last night I bought this quinoa blueberry pudding with coconut milk and I have tried their banana one with chia seeds and coconut milk pudding and it's delicious and low in sugar and high in protein. The brand is called comfy house foods. Oh I also have skinny cow or weight watchers ice cream time to time. I have it as a treat 2-3 times a week. But all in moderation. Also I don't dump. I did early on but not anymore but then again I don't eat much sweets to begin with. But def eat eggs and meatloaf. I also add benefiber to my shakes or yogurt to get fiber cause I am not having much of fruits and veggies
  15. Lisa, I know that I have had great weight loss the amazing thing is that I have been stalled for over a week now. As far as my diet goes ever since I was told I could advance to the mushie diet I have kinded cheated and not chopped or blended any of my food. I have had absolutely no complications with my new tummy. I see people posting that they barely get down 1 egg and I have been putting down 2 or more if I eat them alone. My typical daily diet is 2 scrambled eggs with a piece of toast for Breakfast, a greek yogurt for a snack, tuna or chicken salad for luch sometimes with whole wheat crackers, then a cheese stick or half cup of cottage cheese for another snack. All of that takes place at my work between 8 - 4 I usually have around 200 calories left for dinner where I try to have chicken, a vegetable and a potatoe. As for my hunger being an acid problem, I don't think that is the problem. I have been using liquid zantac sine the day I was able to return home after surgery. I have also tried using tums with no change. Hope this answers some of your questions and I will be looking forward to your feedback.

Short weekend, busy weekend, but finally able to post to my blog. Went to see Kenny Chesney, ate at Toby Keith's restraunt (I Love this Bar & Grill). I got the ribs & chicken, ate the ribs and 1 bite of chicken - full. I did have a drink, strawberry margrita - liquid calories, I know, but hey, I was having a good time :rolleyes2: Bought another drink at the concert - $12.00 for basically sugar. Won't ever do that again! My daughter had a great time, it was her first concert. The Friday night festivals threw me off the weekend, Didn't exercise at all all weekend! Sunday night my son was playing in a concert for family & friends, we had a cookout, I ate pretty healthy, made me chicken, but did have a little macaroni salad - yum. Yesterday, my band was WIDE OPEN, I could eat anything and everything and basically did. Very hungry yesterday, not sure what the heck was going on. This morning, back to restriction again. So glad of that :blushing: I am going to be so dead in a few hours, first of all, didn't get to bed until around 12:30 last night, got out of bed at 4:00 am this morning. My son had to be at the airport by 5:30 this morning. He is flying to Reno with his school. He won first place in the State competition on his Business Essay, now he is competing in the Nationals. He'll be gone for 6 whole days! I'm so proud of my boy! He's such a good kid, an all american boy. If I can just keep those darned girls away from him. lol. Anyhow, didn't get much sleep, so I'm sure it will catch up with me soon! Menu today Bfast blueberry yogurt/granola Lunch salad Dinner roasted chicken wt 180.7 - YUCK - TOM IS DUE exercise -

    Foooooood

I was on soft foods after a week, I initially did okay with it but in retrospect I wish I waited another week. One thing I did that really helped me a lot was to take away the "protein pressure" I am about 11 weeks out and I very often will still have 2 protein shakes a day which equals 60grams of protein and snack on yogurt, nuts, peanut butter, eggs or deli meat in between. This way I know I am getting the protein I need but I am not force feeding myself food. My understanding is that technically I should be getting my protein from food rather then supplements however my doctor is okay with it because I am doing so well and I am taking food. Just a thought for when you do start eating foods

    Protein goals

At the point where I am (soft foods) my program has a suggested 4-6oz per meal portion size but I'm trying hard to undereat my sleeve (especially since I've yet to feel the big restriction so many people mention feeling) so I shoot for 3-4oz of food at each meal. Keep in mind, I keep it BORING because variety is going to set me off track at this point. Meal 1: 2oz of center cut pork chop 12g protein 1/3 of a banana for the carbs Meal 2: 2oz of chicken breast 13g protein 1/3 of a banana for the carbs Meal 3: 2oz of chicken breast 13g protein last 1/3 of the banana for the carbs Meal 4: 2oz of chicken breast 13g protein (told you I was boring) 1oz of beechnut honeycrisp apples baby food (it's good!) Meal 5: 2oz of tilapia 11g protein 2 tablespoons of greek yogurt 3g protein Soon I will eat: Meal 6: 1 stick of Frigo string cheese 7g protein A lot of people would be bored out of their mind eating the same stuff all day I like do, but I know myself and need to keep it simple at this point. I used to just eat 3oz of meat each meal but backed down to 2oz most meals so I would have room for carbs. I took the PROTEIN ALWAYS thing too far at first.

    Protein goals

I used string cheese, and Greek yogurt for Snacks. I used to eat chobani fruit flavors but so much sugar so instead I mix fruit with Fage plain yogurt (about 22g per 8 ounces!) or I mix a Dannon lite and fit Greek fruit flavored with a plain Fage and get about 30g Protein and 180 calories. Yum! I will eat 2-3 Quest bars a week and also 1-2 GNC ready to drink shakes. That it 20-25g protein in one of to either of those!

    Can I eat/drink?

I was sleeved on the 21st started full liquids on day three. Protein shakes, SF Jello, SF pudding, Soup broth and light yogurt... Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App
  21. I was allowed to eat anything before surgery up to midnight before..no pre-op diet but also not last binging rights either. However, post op, your stomach needs to heal and a minimum of 2 weeks with liquids is needed. So at hospital it was water and at home was ensure and water...3rd week I went to food, but mushy, like cottage cheese or yogurt, then each week after that I was able to try something else, like week four was fish, 5 chicken and now 6 is beef. Don't push the sleeve...stick with liquids as long as you can because if you eat too soon, sleeve will definitely let you know if it likes it or NOT! Good luck! Now it is just the old rule of burn more calories with exercise than you are taking in and you will lose. More exercise=more/faster weight loss but Take it at your own pace! 2lbs a week is good and steady pace!

    What do you eat?

How long have you been banded? 3 weeks! yay What do you eat each day? Breakfast: half of a Hood carb countdown lowfat yogurt smoothie Lunch: 1/2 of a can of chicken noodle Soup. Dinner: 1/2 a can of refried Beans, with a sprinkle of cheese, a dash of fat free sour cream, and some salsa. How much do you eat? WAY less than preband, but Im not filled yet..so I can eat quite a bit when I want to. Do you eat sweets? I loathe sugar..so no. How much have you lost? 21 pounds so far, though I keep bouncing up and down 2 pounds on the weekends (when I mess up) Do you feel its worth it? Ohh yeah.
  23. "I didn't grow up eating broccoli, cauliflower, Greek yogurt, oatmeal, etc...so why would I start eating that stuff now? It's bad enough that I can't stomach plain chicken, but if I tried to force down some broccoli....oh Lord!" Since you asked for advice, here's a thought: If you only plan to try eating what you grew up eating you might be in for a little disappointment. If you're like me, childhood foods are some of the foods that made me fat after decades of eating them. I know you're having issues eating some foods now. But going forward, consider trying some new recipes for veggies and other foods that you didn't grow up eating. For example, lots of veggies can be made quite delicious with a little creativity. Tonight, for instance, I made "fried" green Beans in a wok using just a little olive oil, garlic salt, dried onion powder, salt and pepper. They were delicious with the skinless chicken breast I served with a little basil pesto. Ummm mmm! I also had a few bites of baked sweet potato, which was something I grew up eating -- but as a kid I ate it slathered in butter, marshmallows, and canned, sugared pineapple. Eaten just by itself, sweet potato is delicious. BTW, I didn't grow up eating any kind of basil, pesto or fried green beans. And a wok was not a word I'd ever heard as a kid. It's time to try some new things.

    Post op diet.

The biggies for me immediately post op were all natural juice (mixed 50/50 with water, I was required to drink 32 ounces a day for several weeks, if I didn't, my energy was GONE) and broth (I prefer homemade so had it made in the freezer for post-op) along with yogurt (Greek), creamed soups, retried beans (thinned to a liquid with broth), and sugar free jello and pudding. That would have been the majority of my first week post-op, but every plan is different . Congratulations on being so close!!!!
