Today is the day. I'm excited to lose the weight and actually be able to keep it off. I'm also a little nervous and I'm starving since I haven't had anything but liquid for three days. Wish me luck and look for my "story." I'll tell all once I feel like sitting down and writing it all out.

just keep in mind that surgery is your last chance. No one goes into this without trying pretty everything else first. Don't blow your big chance - this is the best opportunity you'll ever have to lose weight. Now - forgive yourself and move on.

This is my first post here so I'm a total newbie! I wondered if anyone with Aetna can tell me their experience with getting Aetna to approve their surgery with just a 40 BMI, no co-morbidities, & not having a history of a persistent severe obesity? I currently have a BMI of 38 and haven't been to a consultation yet. I spoke with the nurse at the office I'm wanting surgery & she hinted that it might be worth it for me to gain 15lbs so that Aetna will cover the surgery & I don't have to self pay. I wouldn't have a medical history of being at a 40 BMI at all. Most of my history would have me at 35-38. Do you think that would work & be worth gaining the weight? Does the insurance just go through if you are at the 40 mark? I couldn't get many answers from Aetna when I called other than to reference their policy #0157 bulletin. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey Caramel, don't get too used to this rapid weight loss. You are probably losing a lot of water right now.

I could tell a little in my clothes and my face after 15 lb, but I knew it would take 30 lbs for anyone to notice. So, now it's been 31 lbs, and I've had 2 people ask if I've lost weight, but family who knew of the wls tell me they can see it in my face. I've also had a couple of people ask me if my hair is different. I want to yell, "No, I've lost 31 lbs", LOL.

band almost at capacity but I'm not
MacMadame replied to taffiegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1) 45 lb. in 3.5 months is actually a good weight loss especially with a band. 2) Esophageal stacking is bad news and can lead to bad health problems. Personally, if I had it, I would be asking about a revision to another WLS, not going to see a shrink. (Though maybe your surgeon wants you to go for other reasons?) 3) Mini-bypass is WORSE NEWS. The surgery is dangerous and people gain their weight back. The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons does not include mini-bypass in their list of viable procedures and reputable docs don't do this procedure. But there are other WLS types you can revise to such as the regular bypass, the sleeve and the duodenal switch. Since you have done so well with the band, I would consider a restriction-only surgery like the sleeve over something with malabsorption like bypass or the switch. But those others are viable options too. Here's a chart that explains the differences: Weight-Loss Surgeries Compared -
It went great, seriously did not feel ANYTHING!! I have a 10cc band and they usually put in 2cc right after surgery, the PA put in another 2 this morning but when I drank some water it was not going down that well so she took 0.5cc back out. I lost weight for about 2 weeks after my surgery but since then have lost and gained back the same 2 pounds so I am looking forward to having a little more restriction again. The PA said to be on liquids for the next 24 hours then advance as tolerated, I'm definitely going to have to be extra cautious now with taking small bites and chew, chew, chew!!!!

Dr.'s Scale? Bring It On! An Actual Scale Victory...
twoboysandagirl replied to Dooter's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I know what you mean...It is so nice to have Drs listen to you and look at you and not just walk in the door and tell you to loose weight! -
I was banded April 12, 2010. Just went in yesterday for my 3rd fill. Have a total of 6.8cc in a 10 cc band. I've lost 52 pounds post op....62 total. I follow the rules and guidelines given to me by my doctor like the bible. I have not put bread back into my diet, I do my Wii Fit every night for at least an hour, and I'm noticing fantastic results. The decision to have this surgery was life or death for me. I was a diabetic on insulin and pills, getting ready to be put on high blood pressure meds. I'm only 41. I was taking more meds than my parents who are in their late 60's and early 70's. Not the life for me. When you have this procedure, it's time to be serious. Do everything you are told to. Follow the guidelines and the weight WILL come off. I promise you that. I could never lose weight, but I came to the realization that I had to get my MIND right as well. We need food to live...but we don't need to LIVE for food.

Lap Band Slow loser thinking of gastric bypass
Tracyd replied to Tracyd's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums

Lap Band Slow loser thinking of gastric bypass
NewSho replied to Tracyd's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Gosh, your post touched me. Tracy, I dealt with all of it. I was where you were. BIG TIME. The story is too long to recount but trust me, I have been there. I was "The Worlds Most Remedial Bandster" - I mean really. I knew folks who had the RnY Bypass around the same time, and of course, they seem to lose so quickly. Then I actually had people around me (5 were my CLOSE friends) who gave me so much flack. They meant well but they were like "Errrr.... it's not working, is it?" And those were the nice comments. My body wasn't doing all that it should have do with the band, and no matter what I did I couldn't lose my flabby lower abdomen area. I was so desolate - I also thought of the RnY Bypass. Luckily, I stuck with the band and I'm glad I did. It all worked out and three+ years later I can say I had the last laugh. I got to goal (slowly but in time, I started losing & losing) and a bit past it. I found out I didn't have a flabby lower abdomen - it was fibroids. My Plastic Surgeon found them. Oy vey! That meant a fibroid removal surgery that was the equivalent of a C-section. OUCH Recovery was so slow & long but I now have a smoother mid-section. Of those 5 toughest critics, 4 (yes, 4 of them) are now LapBanded too. I lost as much as some friends who had RnY. It took me longer, but the slower weight loss helped now look (to strangers) as if I've never been heavy. As they say, living well is the best revenge. (There are pics on the Before and After thread that document my progress.) Don't give up yet. You've got a great tool, don't beat yourself up. It can happen. -
Friend says she has 11 cc's in a 15 cc band...
Nean4488 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different. I know someone with 3.6 cc with a 10cc band and needs to go get an unfill because she barely can keep water down and on the other hand I have 8cc in my 10cc and I can still eat normally, i just eat less and stay full longer then before I had the band. You dont lose fluid but as you lose weight you will most likely need to get a small fill to get you back to where you were. -

An NSV at almost 15 months out? Wow... this is the life right here!
LilMissDiva Irene posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It's been a long time since I've posted anything here. I just had to share this with you all... I went to Target today to buy a new pair of workout pants. I left the store with a size EXTRA SMALL. I wore a freakin Size 28 W pants when I first started my weight loss journey. Just so you know... it IS POSSIBLE!!! Keep your eyes on the prize, because even at 15 Months out I'm still making the magic happen. Much Love, Xoxo -

Thanks so much everyone! :-) I just wanted to show that THERE IS NO EXPIRATION DATE for the sleeve. As long you WORK IT, it will work for you. I always see that question on how long do we all have to lose the weight after surgery. Well, we have as long as forever. KEEP WORKING IT Y'ALL!!! XOXO -
Hi-- I'm going to a family wedding over Memorial Day weekend. Of course, there will be a rehearsal dinner and my partner is in the wedding so I have to dress nicely because I will probably be in the couple's pictures. I was really in a quandry about where to shop. I haven't had a big fancy affair to go to in a long time. I still have a little anxiety about size. Also, like a lot of WLS patients, I am losing all my weight above the belt. I am down to a 12/14 on top (except for my boobs) and I am still an 18 on the bottom. Not a great combo for a dress, right? So I go to Nordstroms (I figured I would spend some $$ if I could find something that looks good). I found 2 dresses!!!!!! I have to have them both tailored becaue they are too big on the top, but they are both so pretty. Best part? They are both size 14 :-) Just 2 months ago pre-op I would have bought a size 18 dress and cried behind closed doors because I wuold have thought I looked so bloated and bad. My lap-band never treated me this well So, to top it off I also bought 2 new pairs of shoes. My bank account may be crying, but I am smiling. Lara

RESULTS FROM UPPING CALORIES
SmokyMtnGal2011 replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No magical potions, this is trial and error. If you are not losing weight then you are consuming too many calories and/or not excersicing enough to burn calories - it is that simple and yet that hard. It is not easy to find the happy place on the calorie intake and output for a body. I too am hypothyroidic and have a very low metabolism, so i have to eat much less than most people and exercise more (which i hate). We are all different and you have to find what works for you and that takes time, planning and lots of trials. WLS is a tool not the complete answer, you still have choices and free will to do or not to do what your body needs. Best wishes in your quest. -

maintaining weight loss after lap band is removed
Sallianne posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Does anyone know of a support group for those who have had to have their band removed due to erosion or slippage, etc., and had no other type of replacement. I am scheduled to have my band removed and need support and encouragement to not gain my weight back. If anyone knows of success stories, please HELP! -
I am sooooo excited!!! 50 pounds ago I could not find a comfortable bra. I had basically given up and only wore one when I absolutely had to because they were so miserable. I squeeeeezed into a 44DD because it was so hard to find a 46DD. Well about 5-6 weeks ago I was able to buy 40DD and they were SOOOOO comfortable. I had to wear them on the loosest notch but they felt great! ALL DAY EVEN!! Over the last couple weeks I had to switch to the tightest notch and now that I have lost even more weight I can no longer wear these 40DDs that I just bought!! I am super comfy in a 38DD!!! I AM ELATED!!! Hooray for happy, comfy boobs!!!

I found an awesome lingerie shop in Kansas City that sells unusual bra sizes. They cost a small fortune, but it's worth it! About 1 year into my weight loss journey, I went for a real, honest-to-God, bra-fitting! What an eye-opener! About a year after finding this wonderful store, I moved to Colorado and haven't found another specialty store like it - even in Denver. (You don't want to know what comes up when you Google search for "specialty lingerie"). So now, every time we go home to visit family on vacation, I go in and buy a few new bras. I'm sitting here typing this wearing a 34G!!! I don't think I've been in a 34 since I was in junior high - and that was a loooonnnggg time ago! If any of you ever have the chance to have a real bra fitting by a professional, I highly recommend it! It's amazing what a difference it makes! Someday, when I finally reach goal and stay there for at least 6 months, I hope to get a lift (and maybe reduction) at the same time I lose some of the extra skin. But until then - the girls will be comfy in their 34G!

Newbie here. Having Sleeve Surgery this week
NewKat replied to janetrupp's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Janet! I am extra glad to see you on here since we have so much in common! I am 56 and had my surgery 8/31/11. First couple of days were rough, but they kept pain and nausea under excellent control. I was shocked at how well I could walk the hall by that night. My weight was 245 on the day I started my week of liquids and my last weigh in was 218, so I am really glad of that. I have not lost any in several days, but I have no problem with that. I have read enough on here to know this is normal and this too will pass. I had a couple of set backs the last few days and have gone back for fluids twice, so they are going to show up on the scales for a day or so. I wish for you a smooth, safe surgery. Get home soon and don't think anyone is not telling the the truth when they say to sip, sip, sip! Take your meds and walk! Kathy -
Newbie here. Having Sleeve Surgery this week
janetrupp posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi all !! I am so glad I stumbled onto this website. Since I decided to have the surgery, I have been "google'ing" everything I can. I found this website and joined today. What a wonderful idea to have all the support a person needs at this time. I am 58 yrs old and will be having the vertical sleeve surgery on Friday Sept 16th. Needless to say I have mixed emotions. First being so excited that my 5'0" body will soon get rid of most of this weight. I am now 240lbs now....ugh I know...But also a little scared since it is all new to me. Reading alot of your stories sure helped ease my mind. Any help you can send my way to make the experience easier I would appreciate. Not to mention your prayers for Friday will be appreciated also. Feeling Down :(
PandorasBox92264 replied to pattyrg15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all is it that time of the month or coming in close? How often are you weighing yourself, if it is daily you will see a fluctuation. I have gotten into the trap of weighing daily and it will make you obsess, so if so then stop it! I gained right before my last appt I gained 3 lbs, which kinda irritated me! I come back and then it started to even out some and dropping back off. I had been in a situation where I got dehydrated and was sweating and I just seemed to poof up. The following week I made sure to drink lots of Water. Make sure you are eating enough calories too, if you go too low your body might hold onto everything. After the above situation I also bumped up the calories for a day and it seemed to help. So don't give up since you will have fluctuations. Good luck
