    lapband torture !

Hi Queeny, Don't feel like your alone. My story is alot like yours. Still struggling not able to eat and the weight stays on. When i can eat it's always the wrong types of foods like ice cream, nachos, hard tacos, chips. Veggies and chicken make me throw up. also had it put in 07. My tube holds only 5cc i can't even get 2 cc in it. I have restriction without having a fill. My doc says i'm just not doing what i'm suppose to but after two years now i,m tired. The first year i did. Now i eat what gives me energy. I went in last week and they did an egd and my band was completely closed. it was completely flattened out. like if you put two fingers together. I don't know how this could have happened they opened it up. but i can tell it's closing again can't even drink protein shakes or drinkable yogarts without taking 30 min to finish. They tell me i might have to have it replaced. But I think the band is a good thing is has helped alot of people . I just believe out of all the bands out there some of them were faulty and we got stuck with those. Hope things get better for you. Hang in there.
  2. Hi Im new here , I had my band since 11/07 . It has been nothing but a nightmare. to begin, Ive lost no weight.... I have a size 10 band, have had fills up to 5cc's which makes it almost closed tight. I vomit all the time, food gets stuck , I had the Dr remove all of the Fluid after the holidays, so with no fluid, I still have restriction. I can eat 1/2 of a weight watcher diiner approx 220 calories, and need to vomit it up shortly after. I now have lost alot of my hair, I have severe joint pain from malnutrition, I have anxiety attacks which I never had before. During PMS week I go back on a mostly Protein shake diet because everything gets stuck . My Dr has done several swallow tests, its always fine, and he has no idea why its just not working,in the begining I was eating barely nothing from all the vominting still no loss.... this week Im seeking a consult from a different Dr , my gut says its either slipped or something, I have never cried so much in my life as since Ive had this band. I've done everything that I was suppose to, recently I;ve attended Medi Weightloss clinics for injections to help replace all the Vitamins. looking back on pictures from a year ago, I looked healthier, full hair, great color, now I have thinning hair, bags under my eyes, and look awful. Im happy so many have been successful, I know I gave it my best but hopefully will get it removed sooner than later Anyone else with words of wisdom would be wonderful

Yes I am consulting with another bariactric surgeon my PCP sent me to, Im seeing him tis week, and I pray he agree to remove it, and I can begin to heal, I have nothing against the band, quite a few friends have had it, and lost weight, had no problems, but a few have, and I was not the lucky one!

    Low cal lunch Ideas

Today marks my 3rd week out. I am a teacher so I have the summer off, and still getting use to eating. I am thinking about the year ahead and wanting some quick, low cal. ideas for lunch. Any suggestions! Are lean cuisine, weight watcher, and healthy choice meals are okay? or is that to much?
  5. 113lbs. Per the average weight loss with the band you are doing just fine. Keep pushing along and you're sure to see more success. Is your knee that injured that walking is off limits? If not, walk! Not all exercise has to be strenuous. Good luck and you're doing great!
  6. Hello Everyone, I am scheduled for the lap band surgery this Monday, and up until this point I was not nervous. This morning I had to checkin with admitting and have all my pre-op tests. Now I am really starting to question my decision and getting scared about the pain, and wondering if I can stick to the new way of eating and all of that. Did anyone feel this way right before your procedure? I am sure it is just pre-surgery jitters, but all I could think about is "am I going to fail?" and then I would think to myself "if I do succeed, will losing this weight make me lose my identity? I know that sounds dumb, but hell, I have been more fat in my life then thin. Love some thoughts from anyone out there......Connie
  7. I stumbled on this support section on the forum last night and feel it was for a reason... I need some help . I am feeling like presently I am not only using food but alcohol as well to numb me and stuff everything down. I have had some complications and have been basically unrestricted and going crazy eating since May... I gained like 35 back now.... I also have been drinking as well all along and even when I was close to goal for the past four years... I am at a point emotionally where I realize I need professional help for my head and that I really need to sort out the baggage. It can't be pushed down anymore if I am using food and alcohol as my only source of comfort. Even when it was only a three ounce piece of salmon and pureed vegtables it was my source of focus and soothing always with an "expensive" glass of wine or more...Going "out" to a nice place was a n entire experience for me to make myself feel better... Is this so wrrong? I guess when you can'e control your eating and drinking it is... I am considering a 12 step...I have been to AA before a few years back but of course decided that I really did not have a problem ... I also had trouble finding a group I felt comfortable with. The person I asked to be my sponsor flaked out and I was scared off. I have been to Food Addicts for awhile. I have never tried OA . I just need some advice and connection with someone on here. I am banded ,,,soon to be re-banded and not your average case. I am feeling awful right now.
  8. I had my lap band surgery November 1, 2010 and things went great for a while. I bounced back from surgery quickly and had very few issues adjusting to banded life. From November until the following March/April, I dropped about 65 pounds...then I hit a wall. It was like a light switched and I stopped losing weight. To date, I have never had any issues throwing up. If something does get very uncomfortable, I can drink a little Water and it goes right through. There were two surgeons in the office I went to, but the one who performed my surgery moved to another state to start a new practice. Unfortunately, the other surgeon doesn't like the band because he's a big advocate for bypass. Since I felt like I could eat anything, I went to him to see about getting a fill. They use fluoroscopy to actually see how restricted you are and he wouldn't go any tighter because it "looked" tight enough. Of course what it looks like doesn't make any difference in what it actually does to help restrict food intake? After a year of getting nowhere and gaining back a little weight, I drove to another city to get filled in another office. They have added Fluid twice, but I can still easily eat what I want with a little drink if the bite is too big. If I take smaller bites, I probably wouldn't need the drink at all. I'm very frustrated because I'm two and a half years out and I'm almost back to my starting weight. I feel like I had no issues when I started because everything worked and I was moving in the right direction. Now, it's like I can't stop since I know how to cheat the system and it's so easy. I've considered going back and converting the surgery to the bypass or sleeve, but what's to say I won't end up in the same place again? I don't feel like I got very much support from my surgical center to begin with and I'm sort of flying solo on this. How do you get past the mental struggle of knowing how easy it is to cheat and making the right choices? Is it even possible to start over again?

My insurance has an exclusion for ALL weight loss surgery regardless of health. Its definitely a factor when making the decision. So I had to pay out of pocket! Would do it again in a heartbeat!
  10. Hi Aimee Welcome...what a fantastic job you have done so far withyour weight loss. I know what you mean about the bandsters group , I feel the same way about most of those Yahoo groups, this is why I have chosen to stay right herewith all of these loving caring supportive people. You will be happy you did too:)
  11. Llamalover17 Hi hon, I'm 3 years out from my RNY. I have been successful in losing 132#'s in 6 months. I did have a 8# gain. So I now weigh 125#'s and have maintained my loss for 2 and 1/2 years. You are not a failure and you can do this!! A 90# loss is nothing to sneeze at. That is 30#'s a month. That is more than I even lost in a month. I lost 20#'s a month. Keep your eyes on the prize. Keep trying that is all any of us can do!! Give up the carbs or at least keep them at a minimum. My Team told me from the beginning that in time there are no forbidden foods!! We just have to do them in MODERATION. Now that doesn't mean you can eat junk all of the time. Our bodies work best with getting lots of Protein in and you can eat veggies to fill up. The ideal program would be to not do carbs until you reach your goal. It won't be long until you are there. If you don't have time to go to the gym for your exercise try to walk. It is a great exercise and it is free and gives you the chance to clear your mind also. I try to keep my hands busy with going on Facebook, support groups on here I color I read In write in a journal. Another thing maybe you can talk to someone about everything going on. This is a BIG ADJUSTMENT our body is kind of in shock. Please feel free to chat with me at any time. You can get ahold of me at scharbroughsherrie@gmail.com. Like I said I'm not sure if I can be much help but I am a great listener and I have gone thru WLS and kind of been there done that!!

    Depressed

27lbs is great, considering 6 weeks out of the 8 you were in healing mode and not alot of people lose during those 6 weeks. You weren't eating enough for your metabolism, so that pretty much shut down. I was told first 6 weeks don't expect weight loss. I think 27lbs is good. I also think that you should have had at least 1 fill.......bring it up with your dr.

    Bad Back Pain

Gman: I had the exact same problem! It was horrible! The only thing that worked for me is when they removed some fill. I had no problem with food going down either. I was very worried about gaining weight so I put it off for to long. If I would have known what I know now I would have done it sooner. I had some removed, then 6 weeks later they put back in exactly what they took out, and I never had the problem again. Doctor has no clue to this day why, but it worked. Good Luck!

Total Cost Of Surgery So Far

I have BCBS and for mine, its running $35000-50000 I believe. I'm in NC. I got some other non weight related surgery in March so my deductible and Max out if pocket were covered already! I owe $291 for the hospital copay! If those weren't met it would be close to $5000 out of pocket.
  15. Hi. I have been researching the Lap Band for almost two years, I feel very confident that I know pretty much everything I can expect with it. I just feel so lost. I am so worried that people will think I am a failure and am disgusting or something for doing this. I feel afraid to not depend on food anymore. Giving up the way I eat and the things I eat, which I know is why I am over weight. But, thinking about it all is really scary. I just wonder if I will be the same person, will I be obsessed with food, calories.. will people love me more if I am thin? I dont know I just am so unsure. The biggest reason I want to have it done is so I can tell my children some day that I made the choice to be healthy and live a long life to be with them. I feel like my parents didn't choose to be healthy for me and they are slowly killing themselves with obesity. I dont want my children to think that about me. Sorry to go on and on.. I just am not sure where I should go from here. I really want the band some days and then others it feels so frightening to give up everything I know and change myself. Has anyone gone through this? I need help. I know its what I want/need but it is so scary.
  16. I am a Band to Bypass revision. My Surgeon advised against Band to Sleeve due to the increased potential for staple line issues due to the scaring caused by the band. There were others surgeons in her office that would do it, but she won't do them. I trusted her inputs and went with the bypass. And yes, logically you will lose weight at a slower pace, simply because you are already used to the restriction. Now, that's not to say it's not going to be amazing or "slow" by any means. But you have the potential to not lose as quickly. Going from no restriction and no malabsorption to both is clearly going to be more of an impact than going from some restriction and just adding malabsorption. But, either way, it's still worth it. My band was not causing issues, but it took them WAY longer to get it out than it should have because it was totally encapsulated in scar tissue. Now, revision to sleeve, you are not going to get any of the malabsorption, just a different type of restriction. From what I read when I was researching Band to Sleeve, it can be rather slow. Whatever you chose, Good Luck!
  17. I know we're all different and our weight loss is the same way. Im just looking for some basic weight loss stats. My surgery was on April 4, 2011 and I weighed in at 278. As of today I'm at 201. Seems slow(?) of course I've chested on Halloween and thanksgiving. Can't seem to stay under 1000 caleries. I'm eating 1200-1400. I know that's too many. But I'm still hungry at 1000 and it always hits me at the end of the day. I hate going to bed hungry. Any suggestions ?

    this thing

I was banded in October, and post op weight loss has been verrry slow... and 100% MY FAULT, not my bands. I did the exact opposite of what I was supposed i.e. ate plenty of ice cream amongst other things. I was very frustrated with myself, but came to realize that I love having my band. Absolutely love it. It motivated me to get back on track quicker, and drag my ass to the gym. I like having it there as a (sometimes annoying) reminder that I chose this to help me. So now I am doing everything right, and have been for a few weeks and haven't lost any weight, but that's ok, I will. How can I not? I'll just keep at it, and I know it will come off. This is just for people so fed up with their band they regret, hopefully a little inspiration to keep going, because I know I will.

    this thing

I think we all struggle... we all want instant results .. we are eating less..so why doesn't it fall off!! I myself have set myself up to fail I look at other peoples tickers and get depressed and get on myself!! What I and so many others have to realize is our bodies are diffrent and we will loose in diffrent stages. My biggest thing that I have to overcome is my sweet treat after I eat. Having trouble getting rid of this craving so instead I've decide that if I have this craving then to have soemthing but make it 1 of somethign not a row of Cookies or nice big slic of cake. So snack packs have been a help and I try to hit the gym everyday and do cardio and weights. I have set one goal outside of weight and it's to try to be on the treadmill 3 days a week till I burn 400 Calories. I'm only half way there and boy does it kick my A$$!!. I think if we set small goals we have many achievments versus one large goal and never achieve it. Good luck everyone we can do this:thumbup:
  21. This has been a long process for me as it has been for everyone else. It's a journey when I started I really thought it would take forever before I even heard the word surgery scheduled. I started out at my heaviest weight being 256 I'm now down to 237. I'm anxious about how I will handle the pre-op diet of liquid for 2 weeks. Can anyone give me advice, recipes are great too? Sent from my XT1650 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Hi SC newbie

Hi all! I live in SC too! I am going to the Weight Management Center through Palmetto Health Baptist. I also considered Lexington, but went with Baptist for a number of different reasons, but nothing to do with the center or surgeons specifically. Just personal preference. Hope everyone is doing well on their journeys! Good luck to all of you and keep us posted on your progress!
  23. And how about the first time you could cross your legs comfortably? I wear scrubs for work and buy them at a clothing outlet nearby. I used to take size 2X, but as I lost weight I had to buy some new, first in large, and next (I thought) in medium. I usually pick out tops and pants and try them on at home. Well, the tops were okay, but the scrub pants still looked baggy. I couldn't possibly be a small! I packed up the pants and went back to the store. This time I picked out one pair of small and tried them on before exchanging all the mediums. Well, people, the small fit! Gosh, darn I haven't been a small since I think age 12 maybe, if ever! What a rush!

    Hello

Welcome Claire! I completely understand wanting to just survive the recovery phase. Especially those first couple of weeks! I too could give a wink about weight or meds immediately post-op, I just wanted to concentrate on getting some kind of nutrition in my body so I didn't feel so weak. I'm sorry that you're suffering from a cold. I can only imagine how much more frustrating and taxing it is on your recovery process. However, like all things in life, the cold will pass, your recovery will come and you will be well on your way to success. This site is a great place to come and ask questions, read others experiences and just have conversations in general about the sleeve. I hope your recovery is quick and that quickly and positively adjust to this new life style. Good luck to you!

Just Starting The Lap Band Journey

Just ordered the book by Alex Brecher. Yesterday I picked up a book called "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies". And am currently reading a book on Lap Band surgery from True Results. Does True Results just do the Lap Band? Has anyone had weight loss surgery thru True Results? What was your experience? Guess I'm a little concerned as I understand that you lose 40-50% of extra weight w/surgery. I'm 4'11" and weigh 170-172 lbs. I need to weigh around 100 to 105 lbs. So if I am only able to lose 35 to maybe 40 lbs in 12-24 months, I'm still very over weight. And I'm wondering about the expense and effects of surgery on body for just 35 lbs. I'm probably being concerned about nothing. Any weight loss is healthy for me. Any advice appreciated? Thanks!
