  1. Hello, I am on the same path as you. I have my 1st nutrition consult next week and psych eval at the end of month. Today I felt overwhelmed with all these appointment and making sure it 's not conflicting with my work schedule. There is so much to get done.

  2. You had your pre-op appt today, I believe? Now you just get through the weekend and your big day is Monday! Yay! Enjoy Saturday and Sunday, come Monday...you begin the new YOU! I'll think good thoughts for you on Monday...use your pain meds and take it easy next week! Good luck! Tommye

  3. It is 12:55 am Thursday night (Friday Morning) and I just got home from my son's surgury. What a long day. He was scheduled for 1:30 and didn't get into the operating room until 4:45. Got in a room at 8:00... I cried because I felt like a bad mom since he looked like he was in so much pain. They got him up to walk at 11:00 he did pretty good, lots of pain. Left him asleep in his chair!

My husband and I are Thursday next week. I was very excited but it sure looks painful after seeing my son. It will all be worth it in the long run.

So tell me how you are doing. Tell me how everything went from surgury up to now. How much pain? What are you eating? I feel like I really don't know what to eat after surgury even after going to the classes. Is it harder then you thought or pretty much what you expected... Sorry for so many questions, I am just going crazy with worry!

Keep me posted on your progress

  4. I am down a total of 25 lbs from my pre-op until my 1 week post op check up... then in the last week I have gained 1 lbs back since adding soft foods which didn't impress me. My daughter is having a tough time not being able to be picked up and carried around all the time... but everyone is VERY excited for me. I am sorry to hear you have been in so much pain. I am glad to hear though that you are feeling better. When and where do you get your first fill? I am excited to hear your new job is going GREAT! It's great that you don't have to tell anyone about your surgery yet they can watch the weight fall off of you! :) How exciting!! I am glad all is well and look forward to seeing some of your progress pics and success along our journey! :) Have a wonderful and stress free week!!!

  5. WOW! Just saw your pictures. I can't believe how good you look and 25 lbs that's amazing! Things are progressing with me. I have an appointment tomorrow with a bunch of people (not sure exactly who) and then I hope next week with the nutritionist. I'll let you know how that appointment goes tomorrow. I just can't get over your results amazing! I'm so happy for you.

  6. Im doing good, Im in plataue hell lol Im walking around 4-6 miles a day.... glad to hear you are doing good, good luck on the 3 day, sounds like fun !

  7. Hey there...I have been doing wonderfully. I have been really keeping busy...doing a couple of road trips and just enjoying myself. I'm still having to get fluid drained from my back following the PS but it will eventually stop and I'll be all good. I can't wait to get the green light to start exercising again. I'm going to register for the 3-day walk again this year. I had so much fun last year walking those 60 miles I wanna do it again. How are you doing?

  8. Sorry to hear about your week. And about the mushies, thats got to be kind of nice to be able to eat something other than liquids right? I can't believe its been 3 weeks already for you. I heard back from my surgeon and have my psych evaluation, nutrition class, and appt. with the surgeon all scheduled this week. After all that is done they'll submit the request to insurance. It should happen sometime around June 12th or so. I'm crossing my fingers! I'm glad I couldg get all those appts scheduled so quickly though, I was anticipating having to wait a month or so!

  9. hey

how are you doing, fine i hope i havent had my second fill yet still losing about a pound a week. down 46 pnds feeling great, will go for fill on 6/8 new pictures are great keep up the good work

  10. Hi Laura!

How are you doing? I know it's been a busy time for you. I hope that are doing well. I am doing pretty good. I had my 2nd fill on 5/11/09, .5cc fill (total of 3.5 cc). The first week I felt improved restriction, but now it feels the same as the first fill. I have noticed that I can eat slightly more food that when I first got the fill. I have been yo-yoing with the weight loss as well. 2 lbs. up, then 2 lbs. down, etc. It's frustrating. I am scheduled for a 3rd fill on 6/22/09, but I am thinking of going back sooner. I hope this is all normal and trying to keep my head up and keep on going! I am loving that I am dropping sizes and feeling better everyday! Have to count your blessings where you can!

    Write me when you can!

    Shelley : )~

  11. Yes, we'll definitely keep in touch. I had been at the same weight for about a month and had missed a fill appointment. But when I went in last week & got my fill, things really started moving in the right direction. Going back this Wednesday to weigh in . . . pray for me!!! It's a great feeling, though. Like you said, despite the slow process, I'm really grateful to be losing real weight. And fitting into smalleeeeeeeeeeeer clothes, Sister!!! Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Hey Lindsay!!, 3 weeks. 2 weeks Pre op 1 week post op, but I'm still on liquid/mush diet right now. I move to mush/soft on thursday. I'm starving all the time, don't let it fool you. protein shakes really help and spacing out the meal is most important. Key is to keep hydrated, half the hunger will dissapear, and tell yourself that it's all a trick. And try to stick to specific times when you have your meal and make a "snack" time to have your protein shakes... That seems to work for me. only I'm off the protein now But still drink the Odwalla Vanilla Al'mondo ones for breakfast.

  13. HI BGL Mom, I'm in the dallas area and I'm at the end of my wait. I got an approval letter in the mail on Saturday and will be on the phone on Monday morning to see when I can get scheduled. I have BCBS, federal and did the 6 month diet/nutrition visits, pysch eval and had to submit a detailed medical history. My last appt was 4/8 and I started hounding the office middle of last week. So, it was pretty routine and I am planning on a May Banding. I'm using the Baylor system and should have my procedure at Baylor Grapevine. Dr. Matin will be my surgeon. Let me know how it goes for you. K

  14. 55 lbs lost but I have skipped out on my workouts the last two weeks. I am 5 lbs behind my goal weight, but that's my fault. I better pick up the workouts again!

  15. My next dr appt is may 6 next week, I was banded on 3/20/09 and saw my dr just to remove my white strips and checked my band and it was good. I hope I didn't gain any weight since I was able to eat solids. I guess it will be my first fill, I hope I've lost some weight since I being going to the gym and trying to be more active.

  16. I met with her on March27th for the first time. Once you have your surgery scheduled you will meet with her two weeks before to get the liquid diet and sign consents. You'll also meet the nutritionist to go over pre and post operative diet. I was really lucky to get everything done quickly and had a super easy time with my insurance. The whole process from seminar to surgery date will only be 5 weeks. How did your meeting go with Dr. Silva? I'm using Dr. Ahmed, he is a really nice doctor and came highly recommended. I start my liquid diet tomorrow...SO NOT LOOKING forward to it. I'll keep you posted on how NASTY it is....lol

  17. I'm just starting to get the 'hungries', and less post-op restriction 1 week out. Have to stay on clear liquids/skim milk only for another 2 weeks...I'll be eating my kids by then, so I'll be joining you in "bandster hell" soon. That's great you've got a first fill coming up soon (I've got 5 more weeks). Here's hoping it gives you some restriction, but don't get discouraged if it takes a couple of fills...we'll get there!! -BG

  18. Hi, Gretchen. Just read one of your messages to Shelley about your 2nd fill and filling restriction with the other little stuff going on too. Did you have any restriction after your 1st fill? I didn't think I had, but the past couple of weeks (since my first fill) I have had problem with food getting stuck and throwing up. I know I need to eat slower and take my time, but is that what restriction is supposed to feel like? Just wondering...let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Laura

  19. I'm home!! I just love that BYOB (bedding) hospital. No clot, heart is fine, they think rib(s) are displaced from the surgery and it will just take a few weeks to heal. Who needs to take a deep breath anyway LOL? Glad to be out of there. Thanks for the note! Any word on a date yet? I've been thinking about you daily...-BG

  20. thank you. i get banded on may 15th.. only 2 and a half more weeks! YAY!

  21. Well during my 2 week preop diet I lost 19 lbs. Then the week after surgery I lost 11 more. I had surgery on Feb 5th. I have actually gained back a couple of lbs becuase I am still not filled to the correct amount. I had a fill on March 16th at 4cc's but I was up all night getting sick so I went back on March 17th and got 2 ccs out. Then on April 14th I got another fill of 1 cc so I am at 3 now and I still don't have very much restriction. I just called today to reschedule my next fill to May 12th. That is the soonest they can get me in because I have to see Deperi or Webb because neither Welchel or Hagen could find my port. I really like Webb anyway because when he gives a fill I don't even feel the needle! I don't know how he does it! By the way I was very skeptical about going to Memorial for the surgery but I was very impressed with the whole thing :) I hope that helps :)

    Julie

  22. Congratulations on recently being banded. I was banded on April 8th. One week before you. How are you doing?

  23. WOW! I could tell you have lost weight in that picture. You have really achieved a lot..it looks like you are close to the half way point on your ticker! Congrats...of course I envy you, I get banded next week! Cali

  24. Hey Doodlebug,

I am so glad you are doing OK and are now back to work. I am sorry getting back in the groove of work was tough on you. I have an office job as Nurse Manager so it was not bad for me other than being backed-up for 2 1/2 weeks. It took me a full week to get caught up. I am fine now. I go tomorrow for my first fill and full set of labs, then off to work to host a Corporate meeting for 12 at my clinic. It will be another busy day. I like it busy, I never have time to even think about food.

Yes, I do know where Gila Bend is and I live in out in the desert like that too. I live way east of Phoenix near the mountains.

It was super hearing that you are doing so well. Keep in touch and I will look forward to hearing from you on the weekends. I know its tough for me to get on line during the week too, with work.

Take care and will chat soon, Lighterload

  25. Congrats to your wife and I assume that you r waiting for her to recover before yours? What a good husband! Who are yur surgeons? Fort Worth Lap Band-Dr. Adam Smith for me!
