    November Surgery Buddies!!!

My surgery is on Monday, February 20. I don’t have to start my liquid diet until February 19 at 2 PM. I had a different surgeon at first and he said I would have to do two weeks of a liquid diet before the surgery but the new surgeon is only making me have a liquid diet for less than a day before the surgery. I am very happy about that. Does anybody else have that less than 24 hours of a liquid diet?
  2. That is the infamous 3-weeks stall which is common. It happened to almost all of us over here. Don't worry and just carry on.

Recovery TImes / Back to work

I have a very physical job working in a remote underground mine, took 8 weeks for me to return to work and still feel really bagged out by the end of a 12hr shift.

Recovery TImes / Back to work

I had a different surgery - mini gastric bypass in Egypt. I stayed in the hospital for two days and rested in my hotel for a week. After 1 week the doctor said it was OK for me to fly back to Kuala Lumpur (long trip with 1 stop). Flight was fine and I have requested assistance with my luggage which was provided by the airlines. I had to quarantine for a week at home before going back to work. So in total it took me about three weeks or so. By then, I was eating semi-solid food and wasn't feeling very restricted by the surgery. I continued to wear the compression abdominal compression garment that I was given in the hospital for three months and there were no major issues. I also have a desk job and walking around the office helped me a lot. Good luck

    Any 50yo or older?

Hi mammawdd, I am 64, ok 65 in a couple of days! I had the sleeve done a year ago. On Feb 23rd. Stayed in the hospital 2 days, had b/p problems. My neck, which has arthritis and bone spurs was the most painful part of the surgery. from the intubation I had a severe headache for days after. After I got home my dog was dropped off from his boarder, his legs went bad and was in severe pain a few days after I got home. My poor German Sheppard couldn't walk with his back legs. I was recovering from surgery, drinking my protein drinks, running back and forth to the doggie neurologist. We ended up euthanizing him 3 weeks later, his pain was intractable. What a whirl wind! I'm only now, one year later reliving all that I went thru after recovery. It kept my mind off of not eating. So, One year later, I'm down 59 pounds, labs are normal, fatty liver is gone! I'm trying to lose 11 more pounds, It would put me withing normal weiht for my height, although it would be at the top end. At 65 I'm, happy to be where I am. Good luck with your journey. We didn't do the puree stage. My surgeon went from liquid to soft food, Easy stuff like soup, cottage cheese, yogurt.
  6. I've been watching a Dr. on you tube who explains it perfectly....his name is John Pilcher. He has a few videos, you should watch the one where he talks about the 3 week stall. As long as you're following your program you're fine:)
  7. I am March 20th - and super tempted to eat all those things I won’t be able to each after my two week fast begins
  8. My surgery was four years ago, and at this point I don't really remember. (Those first few weeks are a blur.). I want to say about a week, give or take a couple of days.

    So depressed about my hair

When did everyone's hair loss begin after surgery? I am almost 2 weeks post op and haven't seen any loss yet but I am sure it will probably come.

Weight loss stall 3 weeks out

here are the 17,501 previous posts on the 'three week stall" (and no, I am NOT kidding). Happens to almost all of us. I wish bariatric clinics would tell their patients about this, because we get at least one post every day from someone worrying because they're only a couple of weeks out, and their weight loss has stalled. It is normal and it happens to the vast majority of us. https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall

It all depends on you. I took two days off. I was fine. I also know people I work with who took weeks off. Sent from my T601DL using BariatricPal mobile app

    Food Boredom

I feel like that now, I have stress from all parts of life and when I have to think of food nothing interests me, plus I'm cooking for 3 diff dietary needs right now. I have been surviving on baby bel cheese, avocado and tilapia this week, hopefully things will get better after next week so I can dedicate the time to meal planning.
  13. I will suggest staying away from the scale, just do once a week, and if you see no changes, do every 2 weeks. It is common for people to have stalls and fluctuation in the weight due to water retention etc. I would weight myself more often in the beginning but realized the pressure I was putting myself on so moved to twice a week or once a week and I have not seen any stalls and I concentrate on the whole picture not just on one week, otherwise I tend to have obsessive behavior with my intake.

Recovery TImes / Back to work

I work from home, had surgery 11/22/2022 on Tuesday and was working on Monday 11/28/2022. My worst day were Friday and Saturday prior to starting to work, by Monday I wasn't taking any pain killers, and was doing decently with my liquids which I prioritize the first week and then moved to prioritizing protein. I personally didn't feel tired but was ready to take breaks if needed and to do 6hrs instead of the usual 8-10. I lined up the medicine cups to have 1oz of water every 15 minutes and got up every hour to walk to the bathroom even if I didn't need to go just to get moving.
  15. Kind of freaking out a bit, I'm 3 weeks post sleeve and my weight loss has stalled for the past 4 days. I'm scared I am doing something wrong and not even realizing it. Has this happened to anyone else?

Recovery TImes / Back to work

I had surgery at the end of November and I took two weeks off and I definitely needed the two weeks, although I don’t have the option to work from home. My first week back to work I was exhausted by the time I got home but I still felt ready to be back at work.
  17. the infamous three-week stall (doesn't always happen the third week, but sometime during the first month, almost all of us experience our first major stall). Here are past posts on it that I just did a search for: https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall 17,501 posts!

Recovery TImes / Back to work

I took three weeks off but could have gone back in two. Other than being tired, I was fine. I have known people who have gone back after a week - although two seems pretty standard. P.S. my surgery was awhile ago - and it was bypass, not sleeve - but I don't know that that makes much difference as far as recovery goes.

Any Feb surgery peeps out there?

Was sleeved on 2/14. Everything is good other than right sided pain. :( I know it’s only been less than a week but ouch! Pain alleviates when I stand or sit slightly reclined.
  20. I am scheduled for a gastric sleeve in 3 days. I have the luxury of working from home, but was planning to take a week off after my procedure, and work from home for a week before attempting to go back into the office. I have a sedentary job, but a really nice walking path available to me at the office (along with my walking pals who I can meet up with on my breaks and lunch). I have heard a myriad of responses to this among my friends who have had this procedure, but was hoping that medicine has evolved since then, and I'm curious. For anyone who has had their surgery in the last two years - How long after surgery were you able to return to work?

Any Feb surgery peeps out there?

I had the same problem the first week home. This second week has been much easier. Hang in there!
  22. So I haven’t been able to lose any weight since the 2nd week mark of my weight loss journey. I’m 4 weeks out today & ive only lost 6.7kg (1.1 ish stone) I’m feeling so disheartened and don’t know what to do or what I could try. My diet plan from the company I had my surgery with, was awful! I’m not even sure what foods I should and shouldn’t be on. I don’t know how many calories I’m aiming for or capping at…. What exercises are allowed other than walking. I’m just really struggling at this point and I’m not getting decent results, especially compared to those surrounding me! Like seriously it’s turnt my life upside down (which I could live with if the results were decent) and the results aren’t changing. One whole week. My weight loss stood at exactly 6.7kg loss (the exact same to last week.) Any help? Or anyone going through the same!!?

    Passport

My surgery is planned at Endobariactrics, in Piedras Negras, Mexico which is just across the border from Eagle Pass, TX. Until a couple of weeks ago, a passport had not been required but according to agents at travel.state.gov; standard pre-pandemic border crossing policies have been reinstated. Maybe the San Diego/Tijuana border is handled differently.

    Passport

During the pandemic, a large number of government employees (including passport officials) were working from home and as a result border crossing requirements between US/Mexico and US/Canada were eased to only requiring a birth certificate and a current government issued ID. About a month ago, the normal border crossing policies were reinstated and now require a passport again. As a result, there has been a deluge of passport applications. Due to the volume of applications, on 2/6/23, the normal 3 to 5 week processing time for the upcharged "Expediated Service" was increased to its current is 5 to 7 week turn-around. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to set up an appointment at an official passport office for immediate issuance if travel is planned within 14 days.
