Had gastric bypass 11/11/13 went home and something wasn't right, went through hell and back to finally be admitted to the hospital were I went into a coma for 4 days, had 2 blood transfusions and had to stay in the hospital until I learned how to walk talk and semi eat.... Although through all that time all I ate was ice chips... I was released home a day before thanksgiving.... Thanksgiving passed and I had a slice of apple & sucked on an orange (but didn't eat it) I guess I experienced dumping & dehydration that night because I was super cold, dizzy, couldn't walk, nausea, (threw up a little blood) and diarrhea (so I thought) while in bed I couldn't get up so I super soiled myself with what I thought was poop (sorry TMI) but it was more blood than poop... husband called doctor & confirmed it was dumping (although the blood wasn't explained) .... Days have passed and I've been too scared to eat I've been drinking Water only... My body started experiencing body aches... And it's been harder to move... That's my story so far... I'm writing because I just feel like my body wanted to give up... I'm scared of well dying... Nobody understands me because they don't feel the feeling I have inside... I keep having dreams of it happening... I'm scared and have no one to talk to its weird how I'm feeling I hope I'm super wrong and this fear of eating goes away... I just needed to vent and share my story ..

The first time it happened I was sure I had ruptured something. Haha. Also about 2-3 days before each one I got sooo angry over nothing. Seems to have calmed down at this point Still a lot more blood than before though... tmi.. Surgery date: 10 october 2017 SW: 327 CW: 265 GW: 175 -

I have some FAMILY members who are jealous as heck. I have taken off 30 pounds in 9 weeks and some people look at me like I am sick! I've got tons of support from my DH and DS, they are proud of me! My husband wants to go to the mall and buy me some more clothes, the first 20 pounds I took off he bought me a new outfit, he was soooo proud. Plus I am shopping in my own closet now, love it! My Pastor and his wife are so proud of me too! He was afraid for me at first, but I think that was from lack of knowledge, he is okay with it now, thinks it's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Liquid Phase, pre and post op
Starr2015 replied to egarza930's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I like Ensure Max Protein for my full liquids. I am July 26th for the SADI (from my 2018 sleeve) so I go on the 2 week July 12th. My prior sleeve post op was rough because I am sensitive to gas. I was campbell tomato soup, chicken broth from Swanson, and gatorade. I did try crystal light- every flavor and I was dehydrated through the first month. I just could not get protein and liquids into my sleeve. For my SADI... I hope I can drink after. I have multiple flavors of protein shakes ready and beef/chicken broths ready to go. I think because I experienced a major stomach surgery before, I kind of know what to expect. And I expect gas, pain, and poop (TMI? sorry!). You have to get in liquids. If you do stock up prior, get a variety of flavors and brands. Buy the store brand and find coupons. If you have food stamps, a lot of this is covered. Go for liquids that have protein like broths but also basic soups. If you have a favorite flavor right now, get it. If it is something you know you will drink, it is better to have on hand. I knew I would drink gatorade and not surprised I balked at the crystal light. Hope this helped some? -
Wow how time flys. I can't beleive it is time for my first fill. The Lap- Band has been great so far. Way less pain than I thought. The Lap-Band is helping me to change my relationship with food. I was loosing weight. That only stopped b/c of my Breast lift/reduction. I had that surgery 5/27.I woke up 10 pounds hevier. People here have told me that is normal and usally goes awat after about 2 wks. I have los 6 pounds. This surgery has been sooo painful. I did not research this one as much as the Band, and there is not as much support as with the band. I am a mess phisycal and Emotional! The pain has left me wonderring if it was really worth it, and I am so lonley. My friends have not called and my family has not been there for me as they were in the past.I did not tell anyone what kind of sugery I was having. I really did not want everybody looking at my boobies the first time they saw me. You know this would happen. I told everyone about the Band. Not sure that was a good idea b/c they now watch evrything I eat and some make comments not realizing they are not helpful. I cry alot. I can't help but wonder why I did this to myself!(breast reduction not the Band) I was suppose to have surgery in Jan. But I was having other issues. Finally found out I needed my gallblater removed. Had that sugery 2/22 then I got approved for Lap Band way sooner than I expected so I canceled the B/R again. Had the Lap Band 4/29. Then fanally had the B/R-B/L on 5/27. It was way to soon to have another surgery but my authorization was about to expire, so I went for it. Today I am 12 days post op I am starting to feel myself again. I had a good wkend. I finaly got out of the house and saw some friends. We had a gret visit without talking about me and my surgeries. That was nice. I also started walking 30 mins. Boy does that help. Also this morning I started. Dah, I was PSMing last wk. No wonder I was having a pitty party. I was not paying attention to the date, otherwize I would have known I was being emotional b/c I PMS really bad the wk. before. Sorry, TMI I know but it explains alot. My poor Husband. I won't even go into what I put him through. Anyways I am still in pain and need meds however I have gone from 2 percocets(sp?)and a anti-anxiety med to just 2 vicodin every 6 hours. I am looking on the bright side. My cramps are keeping my mind of my sore breast lol BTW my fill is in 2 days. I have read so many horror stories that I am scarred. Od cource I have read a ton of storie that everything went well, but those are not the ones that stick in my mind!!

Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?
Band07 replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I will be four months out on the 23rd. I had a rough start not because of the surgery itself but because I got pneumonia and became serverly dehydrated was basically miserable the first month. That being said, I've lost 30 lbs (which puts me 10lbs from my goal) It's slow but that's expected. I can eat anything/everything and my portion size is really much larger than it should be for someone who has had 3 surgeries! But it's the mgb that keeps me losing. Nothing and I mean NOTHING I eat stays with me too long. I'm in the bathroom A LOT! sometimes as many as 8-10x a day. It's worse when I make bad food choices but really with a 9' bypass even good foods pass through pretty quickly. I've asked others and not everyone expereinces this and it's not really dumping (though I have had that too) because I don't get sick with it or sweat or stomach cramps at least not often. Hope this isn't TMI but it's worth knowing I think because I wasn't prepared for it to be like this! I will try to answer any specific questions you have... Who is doing you surgery? My same surgeon is doing my surgery in Belgium, paid by myself like yourself, Been doing a lot of research on it and I think it's the way forward for me I'm scheduled for October 12/15, I can't give up now I've been through too much, sleeve didn't work for me band did but way too much trouble even thou I loved it,so I take it you are happy you went ahead and got bypass Wow, your story really does sound like mine! Yes, I'm happy, no regrets so far. Haven't had my labs done though but I am taking my Vitamins. The weirdest thing for me is that even though most days I literally have no restriction and can eat average portions, sometimes i get stuck and it feels exactly like it did with the band! Small bites and chew chew chew has always been a struggle for me -
Anyone had issues after surgery with really hard poop? To the point it hurts to poop, like pooping razor blades and then my bottom bleeds afterwards. Bottom only bleeds after a painful bowl movement. 3 weeks post op. Any advice?
-
Nope. I can't burp. I didn't burp for over 3 years . For some bandsters, burping is something we just can't do. One of the reasons I suspected I was leaking in fact was because I not only lost restriction but suddenly could burp again. I have not burped since being rebanded 2 months ago. Honestly, your body adapts and initially it all comes out the other end (sorry TMI) but that settles eventually too. My boyfriend thought I was the most delicate of princesses because I didn't ever burp when we started dating, now he knows I just couldn't!! I really don't miss it.

You Know You're A Sleever When...

...You take one bite of something you've been craving and then stop instead of inhaling the rest ...You look for ways to put protein into everything you eat (Molten lava cake with chocolate protein powder =p) ...You want to try on all your clothes every week to see if they suddenly fit ...You feel like you've made the ultimate concoction when you mix two protein filled items into something you can actually get down (A smoothie with yogurt AND protein powder?!) ...You almost pass by the posts labelled TMI and realize you should probably look at it because you're most likely having the same issue ...You can't sleep on your side because it feels like your stomach is hanging and anyone you tell that to looks at you like you just spoke nonsense ...Your stomach is more talkative than you are ...You have suddenly decided you need to name your stomach, despite having it for your whole life =) -
I Have a cholonoscopy today :/
Rainbow_Warrior replied to dreamingsmall's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Colonoscopies are a breeze. There's no problem whatsoever with the operation itself. My first colonoscopy in 2009 was a real learning experience. Having to take the Picoprep with warm water the afternoon before was a new experience. About two hours later, the bowel explosion occurs and the toilet bowl is a mess of runny brown as you literally fart all sorts of gas and liquid from your digestive system. Then, 30 to 45 minutes later, you're back in the toilet doing a lower volume version of what you did before. Sorry to those readers who regard this as "TMI" ... too much information ... but it's what happens. I had a second colonoscopy in 2011 then another in 2013 then another this year, 2017. In Australia, colonoscopies are a quick earner for surgeons who keep checking on you because you're in the at risk age-groups: 55-65 for men and 50-62 for women. To save all these exploratory, relatively expensive procedures which find very little, our national government started a MAIL-OUT program of bowel cancer test-kits about three years ago. One now rubs one's stool with a giant Q-tip then puts it in the sterile container and mails it back. The government test lab then advises you if the sample shows you at risk and gets a colonoscopy process organised. The mail-out program stops over 90% of the wasteful, expensive drains on people's health insurance and the national health budget. -

OK all..can I please ask if loose watery stools post sleeve is normal? They tested my stool for C-Diff and it was negative. I'm on full liquid diet. Everything I put into me comes right out. Sorry for the tmi. But wonder if anyone has had this too? How long will it last? Thanks -
Day 2 so much pain
SwanGal replied to realtruelady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for posting this!! I was banded yesterday 12/9 and am in horrible pain. I think it's gas. It hurts really bad, like BADDDD. I can't get away from the pain. Sometimes if I lean to the right a bit I get relief. I am scared to let gas out when I feel it coming because of the lovely loose stools (TMI I KNOW) because of all the liquids only so I get up and go to the bathroom and by then the urge to release gas is gone. It's making me crazyyy! -
Pre-Op until 2month Post-Op Update
ChangingMeForMe posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
In January of 2014 I made the decision to get healthy and knowing I could not do it on my own, so I attended a seminar and had my first appointment with Dr. Joyner of Americus Georgia to learn more about my bariatric surgery options. Once I heard him speak and giving the benefits I was all for it I knew I wanted to have the Gastric Sleeve, I just needed to know where to go next. I met with a nutritionist for3x during January, February, March, I also seen the psych Doctor twice once for the written assessment next to go over the assessment and talk about what got me to where I am and how I feel the surgery would help me., I had my EGD done which showed I had H-PYLORI so I had to take and antibiotic for 2weeks prior to my surgery, but there was no hernia so that was a good thing. They put me on a 2week pre-op diet of 2shakes per day and 4oz lean meat, and 1cup of non-starchy vegetables. On March 19th I had the Gastric Sleeve preformed at around 8am; the procedure was scheduled to take 2 hrs., but only took an hour the doctor said I done and amazing job with my pre op diet so I was a text book case and there was no complications. I got to the bariatric ICU around 2pm and was still asleep, I work up around 5pm and was ready to get out of the bed, so I walked several laps around the ICU, the nurses were shocked I was ready to get up, but I knew from a previous C-SECTION that I did not want to lay in that bed and get stiff. The next morning they took me down for a Barium Swallow, I am not going to lie no matter how thirsty you are this is the worst tasting substance you can have to drink, the results come back great, the doctor said I had a very tight sleeve which is what I wanted. So throughout the day I sipped on a medication cup every 15 minutes, I ended up getting really nauseated and throwing up through the night (TMI I know) and at that point I was like what have I done, but the next day I was back to my ordinary self-walking and feeling better. I was in the hospital for 2 nights and got to go home on a Friday and went back to work the next Thursday after my 1 week post op. Since being out of the hospital I have not had any nausea or sickness, I have had lots of energy and no hair loss or anything like that. I have gone from a size 24-26 to a 20-22 and have lost a total of 48lbs. I have exercised including, walking, riding bikes, strength training and Wii Zumba 2. This has been an amazing tool and I look forward to the future successes. I can currently only get about 1/2c of food down at a time. I try to get down 2oz lean meat 1tbs non starchy vegetable and 1tbs of carbs (like rice). I eat Breakfast, Snack, lunch, Snack, and dinner and take all my Vitamins and required by my doctor. New Image 1 and 2, the picture on the left is from the pre op phase, and the one on the right is about a week ago -
I agree about the TMI. I don't want to know about your health issues in your profile. Keep it positive and highlight the things you like to do. Funnily enough I did meet another sleeve patient online. He was complaining about being cold on a 70 degree day too! But we just didn't "click". No big. Lotsa fish in the sea!

I don't know how I'm screwing this up, but I feel like I am.
kyron posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Greetings, First time post, occasional lurker I had surgery 3/5, and I feel like I'm so far off base in terms of my choices, and/or behavior, and/or expectations that I could really use some information, affirmations, or consolations. So quick rundown: After I followed the post-op diet for nine days exactly as given. For me that was low/no fat Greek yogurt, tomato soup made with milk, protein shakes, and water. After losing my IV weight I continued on for the next week and a half to lose a little more than 10 pounds. After that I've flatlined, and it's going on three weeks. I'm starting to panic. To be fair I currently have a really stuffy headcold and I finished my period (sorry, if that's TMI) about 10 days ago. I know that I fluctuate weight-wise when both of these things happen, but even between the cold and my lady-times I've been relatively stable; but taken together with the amount of time that's passed and that my water weight is usually only +/- 5 pounds, I feel like I really am at a standstill. My current diet is something like this: Weekdays - protein shake for breakfast, either a yogurt or some low-fat cottage cheese as a snack (90-130 cal) - if I'm especially hungry I'll sometimes have a "little plate" usually a prepackaged cheese/nut/meat tray (~160-220 cal), variable lunch (sometimes egg beaters with fat free feta, sometimes creamy soup, sometimes leftover dinner, (today's a leftover dinner day - salad with goat cheese, apples, and crispy onions with fat free dressing). I usually have another snack, same as the morning snack after that and dinner is usually some animal protein, though last night I had the previously mentioned salad and some lamb. Weekends are more variable, but I try to stick to similar meals. I'm usually getting my 60 oz of water, but lately with my sore throat, I've been falling short. I'm hitting my goal of 60g of protein almost every day. I haven't had any rice or bread, but I did have noodles in soup once, and in a frozen dinner (leftover from my pre-surgery diet). I'm incorporating raw vegetables now, so far without any problems. I don't eat candy, anything caffeinated, or carbonated, and haven't for two months. I've tried reaching out to my nutritionist and she keeps telling me that the important thing is that I hit my protein and water goals. She also told me that avocado might be a bad choice for my diet, so I haven't had those for a couple of weeks. Still I feel like I'm somehow failing this stage, and I could really use some input. The only hopeful thing on my horizon is that I'm cleared to do more physical activity this week, so I plan to join the gym here at work. I'm on a big campus, so it isn't going to be convenient, but I'm going to try to get there twice a week to start. So, forum collective, any thoughts? I'll appreciate anything that you can suggest. Thanks. -
I'm almost 6 weeks out and I have been soooo constipated that I couldn't stand it. I had cramping and the dry heaves so bad. I took ex-lax yesterday and finally can say "I'm gonna live" Anybody else have this problem? I used to take magneasium before surgery when I needed "help" Last night I had the chills so bad and cramping..I know TMI but I can't be alone in this. Now I'm afraid to eat or get in the situation again.

Thanks. This is going to be a serious learning curve. I totally get the slow progression to solid food now. Probably TMI, but right after I posted, I had diarrhea. That's not dumping is it? I didn't have nausea. -
I find that certain...positions...are not as comfortable because of my port placement. Not pain per se, just uncomfortable. But only when I'm bent in half or scrunched up. Okay, yeah, TMI...

Week 1 Post-op Advice & Experiences

Definitely not tmi, we all need to hear the good and the bad lol. Thanks! -
Has anyone just randomly became lactose intolerant after surgery? I only drink fairlife milk because of the extra protein not because it doesn't have lactose. The other day I was out so I made my shake with regular milk and I used a little extra because i was going to be out for awhile. Long story short, I was sick that day, I drove past the last place I could use a bathroom (I live in a rural area) my stomach rumbled, I was maybe 8 miles from home, (warning TMI-) it happened, I wish I was wearing depends! I was in my husband's car too! What a mess! Wth? Milk never bothered me before, but according to the surgeon this is common (just not pooping your pants in your husband's car lol!) Yogurt and cheddar cheese are fine, (believe me, I can see Cabot cheese plant from my house) but ugh, seriously? Anyone else have a problem with milk randomly now?

It's definitely not TMI. If I don't go for a week or more (this is one of my biggest problems), I will weigh 1-2lbs less after I finally go. It's crazy!
