    Suddenly Single

Hey guys....Thought I would just update this post a bit. I have been outta the house now for ummm almost four months~ I haven't gainned a pound through this whole ordeal, which is a mirical. I didn't loose, BUT I DIDNT GAIN and thats what I am focused on. Now that I have my head out of the clouds a little bit...I am trying very hard to refocus on why I got this surgery, where I had hoped to be in a year, and what my next step is. The winter sucks. I dont come to life until Spring. Me and the ground hogs. ehehehehe. I got that last fill and it took me a while but I think I am regrouped now. I have been exercising every day and I have been real careful what I eat. I just can't give up the coffee...no way Jose' My scale shows a little loss...but I wont get back on it till I goto my doctors on the 31st I have set a personal goal for myself...Gonna be one of them NSV's....I am going for my motorcycle permit and license. There is a course here that you can take for riding saftey and they help you get your license if you pass their course. I am really looking forward to it~ I am aiming to have this done by July of this year~ Then next year I will work on the motorcycle...unless I come across a cheap starter bike~ mauahahah My son is actually setteling in finally. He knows this is home now. Thank god it was real ruff there for a while. He is sleeping good now. He doesn't cry when we park the car to come here.....He knows...which is a load off my mind. He is going to be okay. We have a custody trial coming up if we can't get anything done thru mediation....thats at the end of this month. I am sure things will be okay, so Im not sweating it too much. I am going to see KORN at the end of this month~~~ I CAN'T WAIT. I bought a corsette top to wear and I am going totally goth! I can't wait and I will post pictures! (If I take pictures that can be posted muahahah) Okay guys....I will talk to you all soon Good night
  3. Great NSV. I am very happy for you. We really are investing in the quality of the rest of our lives! You are inspiring!
  4. I just got engaged this weekend, one day before my birthday!!! However, my size 7 ring doesn't fit. We're looking into sizing options, but this is one of those things I NEVER imagined going through. I think for now, I'll just use a ring guard until I'm at goal, then we'll resize it permanently. Though I haven't lost a pound this week, this has been one of the best non-scale victories I've had. Best to all on this journey!! Lauren

    3 weeks in!

I know what you mean. I gained 3 lbs last week, but then I read the article posted in this thread about stalls and it all made sense. I did check my measurements and I have lost 18.5 inches so far. NSV. My husband tells me to stay off the scale, but it is so hard.

First NSV in a LONG TIME!

Congrats! Sometimes NSVs just come like a bolt out of the blue, while other tmes they sort of sneak up on you.

First NSV in a LONG TIME!

Those NSV's are the best. It seems it takes soooo long to actually look better but the way you feel and those little signs that its working mean everything.
  8. It'll be a great NSV for you when you get to the 6/8's again! Here's to never having to "rebuy" anything again (unless of course, we WANT to). When I find something I like that fits, I have tendency to go back and get mutliple colors -- I may need to work on that!! Good luck on Wednesday.
  9. Healthy_life2

Ok I'm wearing a size 12 this morning!

    @@iamblessed1225 Fantastic! Celebrate your NSV!

    The night before.....

Just wondering why you were placed in the ICU? Was there a complication? We agreed with the surgical team in advance that due to potential sleep apnea I should have close observations. Added benefits of monitoring has contributed to me coming home after just 20hrs!! So far I have had no issue and been able to keep down milkshake, water, beef Soup. I'm bracing myself for a couple of days of pain as the operation takes its toll. It's done now the only way is down ( in clothes size) feeling really positive about the future. Building my NSV list. Xx

    My American Idol experience!

Wow! This is crazy! I am in SLC with my granddaughter. The auditions are Tuesday but we had to be here two days early for registration so we flew in Saturday. We got in line at 5 am Sunday morning at the Energy Solutions Arena. There were about 2,000 in front of us. (Many who slept in their cars.) Thousands more lined up behind us. This is the line to get a wristband which gets you in for the first audition. The doors were going to open at 8:30 am so that was a long time to stand in line. At least it was dark part of the time so we were only in the sun a couple of hours. After an hour of standing, this wild herd of iPod wearing hopefuls all eventually plopped down on the hard cement to wait for their chance at stardom. (There were few of us who were over the age of 28 and not too many bigger than a size 6.) No way I was going to be able to stand there for 2 1/2 more hours so I made the decision to claim my space on the cement and worry about how to get up later. We were not really in a line, but in a mob. I was somewhere in the middle of the swarm. As the time went on, the little space I claimed seemed to get smaller. Maybe I took up more than my fair share? Everyone kept getting closer and closer as if that was going to get them nearer to the front. You can only imagine what happened when the sun came up and the camera wagon rolled by! It was a stampede to get into camera view! I just sat in a fetal position and protected my head. Made it through that near death experience and finally the doors opened. I could see movement way up yonder as the crowd stood up. We were a human wave! Had to get up and fast! OK everyone, make way! Here I come! To my surprise, I was able to stand up all by myself! I couldn't believe it! And I didn't wobble or bounce off everyone like a giant pinball. My NSV! Well, she got her wristband! (One dream come true. Second one pending.) Tuesday she auditions. We have to be there by 5 am but the seats are assigned this time so I just have to dodge the camera stampedes and one more obstacle: We are in row 28 so I have to be able to climb up with this wild crazy mob! I have a feeling they won't be moving slow! Wish me luck! And oh yes, wish my granddaughter luck too. Her name is Kaleigh.

    challenge for myself

Vines, I think you have some great ideas! I do not count calories and I snack..it has worked well for me. I do know however I keep in therange of 1200-1800 a day just by what I eat on a normal day, today though I went WAY over the 1800 mark and dont feel 1 bit guilty I had a plateua from April to October where I saw NO movement on the scale , I have lost 8 lbs in October..dont get discouraged, keep reading you awesome NSV list. You got lots to be proud of and greatful for so far!

    Crying on the bathroom floor

This is frustrating and I'm so sorry. Many of us have been there. For a while, consider focusing not on weight but on NSVs, which are Non-Scale Victories. Maybe certain clothing fits you better, maybe you can walk further than you used to, maybe you're making better decisions about what to eat. It gets better. Promise.

    Crying on the bathroom floor

This seems to be touchy subject but I understand the frustration. I'm there. As in..."the stall" and it frustrates me. Logically I know the facts but some days I'm ok and other days I'm like, "c.mon..lWTF?!" I see others with same or later surgery date losing A lot more and I question everything I'm doing. But...I put on jeans Saturday that used to be hard to pull up. They had give in the waist. I spent the entire weekend sightseeing for a little mini vacation and I walked more that I could have a month ago. I feel better. I do. The scale haunts (taunts) because of the past struggles but I'm staying the course. Like the other poster said...NSV (non scale victories... a term I hadn't hear before) but true. They ARE there. The scale will catch up later. But it's a mental game. I get it. If I cam do nothing else...just know I understand. Love to all! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    ...just got real!

So glad to hear that you are doing well, I'm sure the numbers on the scale will be kind but if not look at all of your current NSV's ???????????? I actually weigh myself everyday and use this app to keep the progress. I'm glad that your hernia isn't bothering you this week but so jealous- my hernia repair is awful, I feel like I have acid in my esophagus and I'm having some discomfort but it comes with the territory so I will be patient Yayyy for being able to get away when your hubby chases you- you two sound sooo cute

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Morning everyone! Yeah, Shiny is back! Yesterday my band was VERY finicky...I didn't get 'food' into me until the late afternoon, and that was my morning smoothie! However, by 7 or so in the evening, I was ravenous - and had 1/2 turkey breast filet with an onion sauce, and some cherries and a handful of granola. Then just before bed, I had a few tbsps of peanut butter. I know, not a great choice, but I really wanted to get my protein in. Today, so far, so good. YEAH on the NSV! It's wonderful you met up with Jaime and St. Louis...I'd love to meet all of you someday, but I don't see it happening in the short term. Maybe someday. LilMiss - I am so sorry for what you are struggling with! Yes, go for an unfill - and get yourself back to a place where you can have a healthy relationship with food. Where you can eat solids, have more than 1 tbsp and enjoy! You are correct - how you are eating now is NOT healthy - physically or psychologically. Get an unfill. EXACTLY!!! Yes indeed! I get frustrated/concerned when I read the newbie posts about getting a fill on a schedule rather than based on a NEED...not a desire to lose X pounds quickly. Where are the VVs today?

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

I'm here! I'm doing really well. I'm enjoying this fall weather and keeping crazy busy. I made a really awesome cake this week. I'll attach a picture of it. Ckktwallace, the situation you are in would really scare me. Do you have a specific plan for your eating and fitness in order to help you make good choices? Won't that be amazing when you are able to keep at your goal weight by your efforts? You can do it! Tap, Awesome NSV with the size 8 pants! Woo hoo! STLGal, that would drive me crazy to have my port at my beltline. Maybe you can just wear high-waisted pants? Anyway, I can imagine you just being grateful for your band at all at this point. Since starting the Body for Life stuff at the beginning of September I'm down 7-9 pounds. That is the most weight I have lost in a very long time. I need to be more careful on the eating part of the program. I wast stricter at first which is when most of that weight came off. Hope you have a great weekend.

    VSG cured my cervical dysplasia!

OK gotta' chime in here. I'm a Woman's Health NP and spent most of my career caring for women, doing cervical cancer screening and prevention. Not bragging, just letting you all know I have the creds to address this. You are absolutely correct in saying your year of healthy eating has "cured" your dysplasia. Well, not exactly, but what has happened is your body is now able to devote some energy to fighting the virus that caused your dysplsia - the HPV virus. Chances are we've all had at least 1 of the more than 100 strains of HPV out there. Some of us got lucky and got one of the less aggressive ones. Some got one of the more virulent strains that cause high grade dysplasia and cervical cancer. Like all viruses, we need our immune system to be healthy in order to fight off the negative effects of a virus. (Ever get a simple cold but because of stress, it knocked you on your ass?) Stress comes in many different forms, and being obese is a HUGE stressor on which your body has to expend a lot of its resources fighting. Congrats to you for taking this step towards good health. A pretty major NSV, wouldn't you say? By the way, if you have kids, get them vaccinated against HPV. Girls AND boys ( it takes two to tango!)
  19. Ok, so it probably didn't. But I've had abnormal PAPs for the last 7 years. I get checked twice/year and it ranges from From atypical to high grade. I've had 4 LEEPS, 5 biopsies and a conization. I can't believe I even have a cervix left after all the bits and pieces that have been removed. Two years ago I finally said fuckit....unless it comes back high grade again or precancerous, I'm not having anymore procedures...obviously the aren't working. Well I just got my most resent PAP result and it was normal! My OB/Gyn emailed me herself she was so excited. I'm chalking it up to outstanding nutrition over the last 10 months since surgery. Very nice NSV!

No Not The Shoes, Not Yet...

Ohhhh! I can't wait for that to happen to me!!!! I wear a size 11W and I want to buy CUTE shoes again Can't find anything in a size 11W except boring, orthopedic-looking shoes! And if they do carry a cute shoe in size 11W it's always out-of-stock! Congrats on your NSV, even if it is aggravating for you

    I look like a slob!

I was wearing a pair of hand-me-down jeans, yesterday. they were very loose, and I was tired of pulling them up. We were at Sears, Christmas shopping. I said how about if I pick up a pair of jeans? he said, "You know, I was happy to have to buy you new clothes, but you are getting clothes crazy, now" What a great thing to do, because I am now wearing size 8 Lee jeans! I am down from 22w since Oct.30,2009. I am now. officially smaller than when I had my son 36 years ago.Congratulations to us all, with our NSV!!!

    May Bandsters~December Chat!

I hope you all had a Wonderful Christmas! I'm with you Drews.. back to work today and not happy about it! Wow everyone, we are doing sooo great!!! Good luck Drews on the testing, what an exciting process! Myra - congrats on the teeth! Duckie- sounds like you've raised a caring, generous young man, congrats! Oh, and congrats on the plasma too! Ous- You rock! Keep up the awesome work! Well..... I weighed 229 on Christmas Eve which puts me just below my Christmas goal of 230!! ANNND I now weigh less than both of my older brothers! I haven't weighed less than them since birth, literally!! I am so excited!!! Also, a couple of NSVs.. my brother bought me a coat for Christmas in a Extra Large, and it fit!!! I can zip it and everything!! Also, I did a little shopping for myself a couple of days before Christmas and I bought one of those cute little wrap style dresses in a size 16 ( in the Missy's Department)!!! I haven't worn a 16 since probably Junior high school! I haven't ventured outside the Plus Size or Womans World Department my entire adult life! It is a stretchy material, and I will need to lose about 20 lbs more to be comfortable with the way it looks, but I love it! It is brown with red and white stripes. I almost cried in the dressing room when I was able to wear it. Life is good! I love my band! I can't believe all the compliments that I received from family and freinds over the Christmas holiday! I'm even more inspired to reach my goal now!! So what is our next weight Challenge? I'm thinking about setting a goal for Valentines Day (a single girl like me's most despised "holiday"). That's it -15 lbs by Valentines day! That will put me around 215. Anyone else interested in a Valentines Day Challenge? Again, I hope everyone's Christmas was merry and please have a safe and Fun New Years eve!

    May Bandsters~December Chat!

Oh Drewslou you look fabulous!!! Congrats on the half way!!! I have yet to get my friend to my house to help me get my photos posted. We both work retail and we never seem to have the same time off right now. But hopefully soon I will get them out there for everyone to see. I had another NSV last night. Our town has an old carousel located at a park that is decorated with lights and animated characters for a few weeks before Christmas. We went to the park last night after caroling about town and I rode a HORSE on the carousel!!! I have gone on the ride and stood or sat on a bench but never on a horse! What fun! I seem to be stuck for about 2 weeks. I really need to lose 4 lbs to get to my next goal. With any luck, maybe it will happen this next week.

Glad to hear your trip went well Missy! Huge NSV for me to report - I am officially overweight. My BMI changed and I am no longer considered obese. Wahoo!

    Feeling down

For 4-6 weeks following my surgery nothing tasted 'right'. Almost everything tasted blah or bad. This actually was a GOOD thing. I was worried that I'd want to eat the old foods from pre op but I found the thought of them nauseating. I really had no appetite at all but gradually the bad taste went away, though I continued to be disinterested in food. I'm 14 months post-op now and food still doesn't have the same power over me that it used to. I eat for fuel, and just enough. I don't eat for pleasure and I don't overeat. Sometimes I forget to eat - that still surprises me! You sound like you're on track. Hang in there! Things will gradually improve as you recover and heal. Take this time to learn all you can about your new life with WLS - find recipes, read of others experiences (but always take your own team's advice first - they know you), and stay away from your scale. Soon you'll be celebrating your own successes and NSV's (non scale victories). :-)
