    May 2023 surgeries

Yes! It's pretty normal I think. When I came home 3 days ago I was 149kgs, marginally higher than my final hospital weigh in. This morning I'm 147kg, which equates to 4.4 pounds. Our body is in recovery mode. I was pumped with IV fluids too!
  2. They brought manufacturing in-house and it’s been taking them longer to get things going. All flavors will be available within the next few weeks.
  3. Does anyone know when Syntrax Nectar Protein Powder will be available, specifically the roadside lemonade flavor. It has been out for several weeks, maybe a month or more? I noticed that other flavors are out, too. I am wondering if the company is having supply issues, or if it’s being discontinued.

    Ever changing bra size

I mostly use sports bras since I work from home. The old ones were too tight, 40H so they were good for 3 months, I then found a pair I was going to give away but forgot size 40DDD wireless and wore those for a couple of months, then had a 38DDD lying around for 1 month. I finally gave in and bought a few at One Hanes Place online, 5 bras for $89, got a 36DDD even though it said I should be wearing 38E and put an extender so I can get a few months out of it. Sent from my SM-S916U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. I went to buy new shirts for work last week because the ones I bought two months ago became baggy and loose. I started with size "M" first which was still big and finally got size "S" slim fit shirts which fit me like a glove haha. I've never thought that this would be possible 🤣. Here is me in my new size "s" shirt and 31" pants. I need to lose some more weight from my thighs.
  6. How long should I expect my abdominal area to be swollen? I also find that it swells throughout the day. For example, I put on my jeans in the morning, and they fit great. By the afternoon, they are tight. Same with the band on my bra. My RNY was May 1st, so almost 2 weeks.

I definitely gained weight. When I left the hospital, I was still 5 pounds more than before surgery. With all the liquid.s they pumped into me, and being bloated like crazy, it was pretty obvious. But a week and a half later, I have lost almost 20 pounds from that point, and dropping fast.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

I had my sleeve done on March 22. Also had a 3cm hiatal hernia repair at the same time. About 7-8 weeks out. Food tastes different sometimes and the vitamins make my stomach ache.
  10. Congrats! I’ve only lost 24 lbs at 6 weeks!! Why!?
  11. I'm 6 weeks out and have asked my doctor the very same thing!!! He said it was a major surgery and it can take "awhile." I'm a little disappointed in that answer because I feel like a bump on a log. Doing simple things is draining and I feel so foggy all of the time. I'm supposed to study for boards but I feel like I can barely think straight! I'm sorry you're experiencing this but I'm glad you mentioned it because I thought I was going crazy!
  12. It sounds to me like you are severely dehydrated. Did they give you fluids in the hospital? About two weeks after my surgery, I developed metabolic ketoacidosis, high heart rate and was admitted. They gave me what they called a banana bag of fluids and nutrients. Severe dehydration can cause your high heart rate, vomiting, and diarrhea. Your high heart rate can also be atrial flutter brought on by dehydration. I had that, and the heart rate that is approximately double normal is a key symptom. As Jeanniebug points out, you should also be checked for blood clots and a CT scan for leakage. I was checked for both while admitted. They thought they saw a small clot, and I was placed on blood thinners as a precaution. Please get with your team ASAP and get this checked. Your team should have someone on call from their answering service. Mine did, and I was admitted on a Saturday. Be persistent. Consider the ER if required. Lastly, don’t worry about stool color as you go through a rainbow until your system settles and you get into a normal routine.

    Manage Sleep Apnea

My snoring changed 5 days after surgery I barely snored. From snoring over 60% of the night I now snore 10 minutes max a night and I’m only 2.5 weeks post op. It’s some kind of miracle I’ve only lost 19lb so far! You won’t need it in the future it will only improve!

  15. Very common. Your digestive system is pretty sensitive & will be for a while while you are healing. (Just like a cut is sore & tender for a while healing but this is on a much bigger scale.) You will be swollen internally too. Expect some quirky & unexpected random reactions to eating & drinking for a few weeks. Try warm drinks as cool/cold drinks can make your tender tummy cramp/spasm. Warm drinks are often more soothing.

    Ever changing bra size

I went through four size changes. The first time I bought 2 or 3 new ones. Got fitted properly because I’d experience back pain if the bras I was wearing were too big. I thought I was safe when I got to my goal weight & bought a few very nice ones. Bad move as I kept losing. All up I went from an 18E to a 10E when my weight stabilised & been the 10E for a couple of years now. Have empty upper boobies but the bottom is still full. The only bras that fit me properly are an expensive French brand (others are too narrow in the cup) - sigh! I’ve spent hours being fitted in other (cheaper) brands & styles but nope that wire would dig in the side. The only breast change I’ve had since then was when my HRT wasn’t working (absorption issue) & one breast got a little larger. Still the same cup size but not as many gathers in the upper part of that cup. Fixed the HRT issue but still have one breast a little fuller. I tend to wear crop top bralettes around the house even now. I started to buy & wear them them as by the end of the day I’d get pain from the underwire pressing on my bony ribs (much better now). I buy Bonds (Haynes) which I can pick up at the supermarket here in Australia. Not hugely supportive but comfortable & stretchy. I donated all my bras as they got too big.
  17. I’m 10 weeks post op have lost 45lbs. I started surgery at 200lbs and am currently 155lbs. I’m 5 feet tall.
  18. My B12 always runs high (1000+), but it's usually met by a shrug at the bariatric clinic. It wasn't until it once went up over 2000 that they suggested I cut back a bit on my supplement. So a high B12 after surgery isn't necessarily unusual, but 3000 is pretty high. Yea - maybe check with your regular doctor just in case. It can sometimes be caused by some serious condition, but they could also find nothing and just have you cut back on your supplementation. But it's probably good to get anything serious ruled out (and it could be that they could tell by your other lab values that there wasn't anything odd going on - but then, I don't know that. I'd just check with your PCP if you're concerned) High AST and ALT aren't uncommon after surgery, but they usually normalize around the second year. But like the person above said, sometimes it takes a little longer. I can't remember when mine went down (actually I just checked - at 2 years 3 months out, mine was still high. It did eventually drop down to normal, though) P.S. I just looked through my MyChart and noticed that when I had AST/ATL checked at 2 years 7 months out (as part of a metabolic panel) they were normal. So it was during my third year that they normalized (although I lost weight until month 20 since I started out at over 300 lbs)
  19. Sorry for signing up and then immediately posting something TMI. I've been lurking for a while but signed up to ask/vent about this issue, since my bariatrics office is closed on weekends and I can't talk to my surgeon until Monday. So I had my sleeve done on the 2nd of this month. All went swimmingly. This past Monday I had my one week post-op and again, everything went swimmingly -- except for my pulse. My pulse measured 143 and I was admitted to the ER and eventually placed inpatient as it was determined I'd developed acute metabolic acidosis. Okay, that's my bad, thought I'd been consuming enough water but I guess not. Once my bicarbonate levels were normal again I was discharged, on Thursday. My issue started after that. Since coming home, I've been struck with severe nausea and stomach cramps, and since last night have been vomiting and having diarrhea frequently. I can't drink anything, and I've been trying desperately to keep hydrated through this. Any time I drink, within five minutes it's leaving my body again. And, to be extra TMI, the diarrhea is... yellow. As if there's excess fat in the stool. Which there shouldn't be, since all I consume is water and... well, protein water. I tried OTC medicine like Kaopectate, but it didn't help at all. I was wondering if I'd picked something up while in the hospital, but if it was bacterial, Kaopectate should've helped right? All the way leading up to surgery I was told over and over about preventing constipation, so this is kinda the last thing I expected lol. Has anyone else dealt with this after having a sleeve? Did you find any way to alleviate it? I'll be talking to my doctor on Monday (and crossing my fingers I won't have to go back in the hospital for a third time this month...) but man I'm really not looking forward to another day of going back and forth between the toilet and the bed.

  21. Five-week follow-up for gastric bypass and now on lifetime food plan. No restrictions.  In all that time I was fortunate to get sick only one time, week 1, on Easter. Chicken broth...go figure.

  23. so first the picture... i dont like showing my face online... so sorry. But yea starting weight 317lb and size 57 pants and 4XL shirt Now 186lb size 34 pants and size large shirt which is a little big So before surgery i did not date for a very long time. I was really big and really never found anyone interested in me. Now almost 1 year and 1 month after surgery i get hit on a ton... and for me being a guy that is awesome. Literally had 2 girls at work fighting over me which was insane. Had to put a stop to it because it was getting bad lol. But wow. i swear if i was taller than 5'4 i would probably get hit on more haha. But its nice. My best friend said to buy a wedding band and wear it to stop them from hitting on me lol. But its nice noticing girls looking and not looking at me like ewwww he is huge.

    May 2023 surgeries

Hey y'all! I had my VSG on May 4th, along with a hiatal and abdominal hernia repairs. Everything went well except the JP drain they put caused me to have intense sharp pain in my left shoulder, most often when I bent to sit; the pain would then last for a good 20-30 minutes. I spent 6 nights sleeping on the recliner because of the pain. Thankfully, the drain was finally removed yesterday and I got the first good night's sleep in my bed in over a week! I didn't have too much pain after surgery (other than the shoulder pain) except for on the incision sites. I walked every couple of hours, many times in a hunched position because of the shoulder pain, so that wasn't fun. I haven't had any issues with getting in my fluids and protein though it took 2 days before I could reach the minimum required. Healing has gone great and I graduated to the pureed stage yesterday but I couldn't do more than one pureed meal. I'm still having a lot of gas in my stomach and have to take gas pills to help alleviate it a little. Dr says that should get better as I progress into the pureed & soft stages. I'm sorry for those of you who have had or are having a tough time after surgery. I'm keeping you in my prayers for a quick recovery!
  25. It all kicks off for me early next week when I start the pre-op diet in preparation for my bypass on 1st; I just cant wit now! We have choice of two pre-op diets and I have chosen the liquid diet. This weekend, I'm trying out protein rich recipe's that are easily pureed for after the surgery. Here we Goooooooooo!
